Editorial Reviews With the release of As In A Mirror Rashid explores a new area of music for one who has composed and played jazz most of his life. For the past several years, Rashid has been accompanying the choir at the Catholic church his family attends. One Sunday, needing some music during a meditation, the choir director asked Rashid if he would play a piano piece. He decided to improvise a meditation, which the congregation enjoyed, and which led to the improvisations becoming a regular part of the services during which Rashid plays. With these meditations in mind, and armed with a selection of biblical passages, Rashid retreated to his recording studio to create As In A Mirror. The resulting piano improvisations were directly inspired from both Old and New Testament passages, and reveal jazz, gospel and contemporary classical influences. Rashid considers each selection an abstraction, or indirect reflection of the text, and hopes that the spiritual nature of the music will appeal to people of many faiths. He comments, "Although my personal beliefs are quite specific, they are also quite private. It is not my intent to tell people what to believe. I do know, however, that I feel most centered when I allow myself to go to that quiet place where my innermost beliefs are held. And when I go there, this music is the result. With it I am simply trying to provide a vehicle to help other people visit that same meditative or prayerful place within themselves." None of this, however, is to deny Rashid's own background, and for people who may be interested, the scriptural passages from which the pieces were inspired are included in the liner notes.

Album Description
The liner notes alone are worth the price of admission. It's clear that Jamie Klimek and his Mirrors are as gleefully damaged or as bubbly brutal as anything that came out of 70's CLE - if all bands were like this, the world would be much better off. Klimek sounds like the backwash from a McDonald's Milkshake - unhealthy & sweet (that's a compliment). We're as excited as pie here. Finally, this record is getting a proper release and hopefully it won't put us out of business; the last label to put this out back in 1989 went under within a week of the release date, having shipped a precious few copies of the albumjust another nail in the series of nails that have kept the Mirrors and their Cleveland brethren 6 feet under ground all these years. ROIR's "Remodeled Coffin" comes complete w/ 13 bonus tracks culled from the "Nail" sessions and from sessions for a never-released second LP.The lone review for Mirrors' Another Nail in the Coffin (Resonance, 1989): "Premier power poppers tumbling all bright and shiny out of the speakers, the Mirrors snap and shimmer through wrapped-up bundles of clever pop ditties, without holding back or playing suave and mature, ripping into hooks and harmonies as energetically as 19 year-olds and while occasionally dizzying and confusing, the Mirrors' pell-mell approach can also take one's breath away." - CMJ, Nov. `91

Electric Scotto.......2002-09-25
Ghiaurov is magnificent, as always and Kraus provides more elegant support than many of his later recordings.
If you want a verismo-like performance, get the recording with Freni (awesome......the largest voiced Margie on record). Domingo is dramatic, beautiful, if without a great high C. The final trio is SO dramatic. Hmmmm, what to buy?
Unique Kraus in exceptional Faust.......2000-06-22
