Damnation Game is damn good........2005-06-25
This is a damn fine album here. It is the bands first album with Russell Allen, their current singer. The album has cool guitar riffs and solos, nice basslines, good vocals, and of course nice melodies from the keys.
While this is far from my favorite by these guys, its still a damn good album.
I'm not going to go into attempts to sell potential new fans on Symphony X. Its your loss if you dont check them out.
The real birth of SX.......2005-02-18
Symphony X put themselves on the progressive scence with this album. This album introduces the new singer, Russel Allen.
The instrumentals on this album will blow your mind! (actually I can say that for any other SX albums after Damnation Game :D )
Though this album is not as great as "V" or "Divine Wings of "Tragedy", it is still a decent prog metal album.
Here are my ratings: (5/5 would be a perfect progressive metal song)
1)Damnation Game - 4/5
2)Dressed to Kill - 4/5
3)The Edge of Forever - 6/5, very beautiful song.
4)Savage Curtain - 3/5
5)Whispers - 4/5
6)The Haunting - 3/5
7)Secrets - 4/5
8)Winter's Dream (Part 1) - 5/5
9)A Winter's Dream(Part 2) - 3/5
If you are new to SX then I suggest getting this album first or Divine Wings of Tragedy. The Odyssey is quite different from thier previous albums.

Instead of further saddling parents with a sinking sense of ineptitude, yawn-queen Patti Teel takes over for herds of fed-up sleep whisperers from the get-go on her second CD, waving them off the way a Broadway starlet might shoo away her understudy. Nothing is taken for granted. Before we meet Nomi, the make-believe turtle that accompanies the kids through this soporific and semi-spiritual CD, we're instructed to turn off the recording and get our teeth brushed and our jammies on. Then and only then may we get down to the business of seducing the sandman, which turns out to be very serious business indeed. Why count fluffy sheep, for instance, when you could count your blessings, part of Teel's technique, instead?
Many but not all roads to slumber are solemn on The Inside-Out Sleep Game. "Blessing Game," the second of six tracks, teaches yoga-like relaxation exercises along the lines of wriggling your nose like a bunny and raising your eyebrows to the sky. The part about bending back each finger may give parents of hardcore kids pause, but otherwise this is progressive relaxation with the potential to be flawlessly executed. For some, it'll render tracks three through six unnecessary. For those less apt to sack out quickly and quietly, two gentle songs remain, plus a brief sensory exploration activity and a visualization game involving a romp through a wild paradise with Nomi. There's no guaranteeing that a nap or a good night's sleep will be netted by disc's end, but if relaxation or quiet time is what you're after--if what you need more than anything is for your child to chill out--you're in good hands. Those who'd prefer to have their hands held, i.e., parents who harbor hopes that somebody else will do the reminding about brushing before bed, can't go wrong, either. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
For parents concerned that their children be well rested.......2001-11-13
With The Inside-Out Sleep Game, songwriter/performer Patti Teel has created a unique and very highly recommended album of music and advice specific to the needs of children troubled and worried about the events of the day to the point that it impairs their ability to achieve a restful sleep at night. Listening to this remarkable CD will enable children to relax while focusing on their bodies and feelings as part of their bedtime routine through progressive relaxation, creative visualization, and a focus on slow relaxed breathing. The Inside-Out Sleep Game is strongly recommended for parents concerned that their children be well rested and learn to cope with the inevitable emotional and mental stresses of the world their children are now growing up in.

Customer Reviews:
Production is sub-par, but the songs are 20 stars!!!.......2003-11-05
Symphony X would not be where they are today without the addition of Russell Allen. Russell gives them their sound, and is far superior to original voaclist Rod Tyler. Listen to "Symphony X" then "Damnation Game" and you will see a huge difference. The only downside to this album is that the production sucks. Plain and simple; the songs are too quiet. If Damnation Game had the quality of Divine or V, it would be one of their best. With that aside, this album has awesome songs. Michael Romeo tears it up on the guitar. His solos are jaw-dropping! Russell Allen's vocals soar. The other musicians are equally proficient. Every song rules, but the best are "Damnation Game ( incredible guitar solo ), Looks that Kill, The Haunting, the Winter's Call 1 & 2. This album shows that from a production standpoint, Symphony X has come a long way, but from a song quality view, they never go wrong. Buy this after Divine, V, or Odyssey. You will love it!
awesome stuff!.......2003-10-20
this is the most underrated Symphony X album. Might be because of the, compared to the newer releases, weak sound. It still smokes though, it's actually my favorite Symphony X album.
A strong effort from Symphony X.......2003-01-25
"The Damnation Game" is certainly an improvement over Symphony X's self-titled debut album. The songwriting is more controlled, the production is better (though still leaves something to be desired), and most importantly, this album marks the arrival of vocalist Russell Allen. Allen is an emotive, versatile, downright amazing vocalist, one of metal's finest. I think the only other metal vocalist I enjoy as much is Roy Khan (Kamelot).
Though not as strong an album as later efforts, this is still an essential addition to the collection of any Symphony X fan, and will not disappoint. If you're new to the band, it's probably better to start with 1997's "Divine Wings of Tragedy," or 2000's "V: The New Mythology Suite," but if you enjoy those, pick this one up right away.

Album Description
"Theme Composed by Jerry Goldsmith" Jericho was a WWII adventure series following three Allied specialists on secret missions throughout Europe. The theme and second episode were scored by Jerry Goldsmith in his military-suspense mode, replacing a theme by Lalo Schifrin who had scored the pilot. Goldsmith's theme and complete episode score are included on this CD, as are Schifrin's unused theme and a suite from his pilot score, significantly foreshadowing his music to Mission: Impossible. The remainder of Jericho was scored by Morton Stevens, Gerald Fried and Richard Shores, and suites from all of their episodes are included. The music recalls the style of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. but perhaps more grim. "Music Composed and Conducted by Johnny Williams" The Ghostbreaker was a one-hour pilot starring Kerwin Mathews as a parapsychologist investigator; although foreshadowing such television series as Kolchak: The Night Staker and The X-Files, it did not proceed to a series. The theme and pilot score to The Ghostbreaker were by none other than John (then "Johnny") Williams, who wrote a dynamite theme that compares favorably to his TV work for Irwin Allen, and a creepy score including harpsichord and solo soprano. The totality of Williams's score is included here -- a forgotten jewel by one of the world's most famous composers.

This fun audio CD features restful music and enjoyable exercises to help children focus on blessings, appreciate their bodies, and look inward to find solutions to problems.

This recording is a combination of music, story telling, and fun exercises that nurture mind, body and spirit.
Customer Reviews:
very relaxing.......2004-04-25
This cd was excellent for my 6 year old, who had a very hard time getting to sleep. This cd focused her mind outside of her own worries while at the same time helping her to relax enough to go to sleep. She has yet to make it to the end of the cd awake! Patti Teel's voice is very soothing, and my daughter and I joke about the little turtle named Nomi, who is a little character in the scenarios set up by Teel. I highly recommend this cd for all children when they hit the age where they begin to worry before bed.
