Nick at Nite's Classic Cartoon Xmas / V (Blister)

Baby boomer nostalgia or a timeless trip into the season? That question practically becomes mute when one tunes in to these classic TV Christmas cartoons that magically maintain their shelf life. There's Burl Ives singing "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" and the title track to the songs from the animated Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer show, along with that lovable "We're a Couple of Misfits." And with a handful of songs from A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Muppet Family Christmas, this CD is sure to connect with adults who remember first seeing these holiday shows on TV, as well as their kids who are seeing them for the 60th time on video. That said, ya gotta love a record that has the original "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch," as well as Fred Astaire doing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," and Jimmy Durante showboating his way through "Frosty the Snowman." Big fun for old and young. --Martin Keller

Customer Reviews:
One Of The Best Christmas CD's I Have Ever Heard!.......2005-10-15
I love listening to Christmas music and I like that this Christmas CD put out by the folks at Nick at Nite has songs from the Christmas specials I watched when I was little. This CD has songs like Frosty The Snowman, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reinder, Holly Jolly Christmas, We Need A Little Christmas, You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch and many more and I highly recommend this CD! FYI: The Snow Miser and Heat Miser songs from The Year Without A Santa Claus are on the 2nd volume of the Nick at Nite Christmas CDs! It is called A Nick At Nite Christmas: Classic Cartoon Christmas Too. I know some people have complained about the song from The Muppet Family Christmas being included but I love that Christmas special and that song!
Christmas fun!.......2003-06-30
My whole family loves this CD. We had the cassette and played it to death, so I came back for the CD! Fun songs, fun memories, even if I could do without the Muppets tracks! Not in league with the old classics.
My all time favorite christmas CD.......2002-12-17
This is my favorite chistmas CD. My favorite part of the Christmas season (except for the presants) was the day after thanksgiving when my mom would get out the chrismas movies. I watched all of these films 100's of times (I was a little kid). Getting to hear the best songs from them takes me back to the best part of being a kid.
I for one Am Glad They included a Muppet Family Christmas!.......2002-01-02
I got this for Christmas and it is probably the best Christmas present that I got! Yes, these songs are also on other CD's but they don't have the classic Grinch song that was sung by Thurl Ravenscroft, a cute catchy song a lot of people mistakenly believe was song by Boris Karloff but he only did the narration and the voice of the Grinch, the song was really song by Thurl Ravenscroft who is famous for being the voice of Tony the Tiger and if you listen to the song it is unmistakably the same voice as for Frosted Flakes Tony the Tiger and it is sad that these days people don't give him the the credit that he deserves! I love every song on this CD but mainly the Grinch which I have only heard in the Christmas cartoon and I like WE Need A Little Christmas from a Muppet Family Christmas, some balk at that being included saying what does it have to do with cartoons but I think it was included as it is considered Puppet or should I say Muppet animation and that is why it is included and I'm glad it was because the first time I ever heard of this song was in A Muppet Family Christmas and I have been looking for a long tme for their version of the song which has become one of my favorite Christmas songs. I very highly recommend this wonderful CD!
For the kid in all of us.......2001-12-03
This is a great place to collect the original recordings of many of your favorite songs from the Classic Holiday specials.
The Whoville chant "Welcome Christmas" and the nastily clever "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" are the obvious highlights of The Grinch Stole Christmas and both are found here. Same with the Vince Guaraldi Trio's "Christmas Time Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer is represented by the Burl Ives theme and the delightful "We're A Couple Of Misfits," but left off are Ives' recording of "Silver & Gold" as well as the haunting "There's Always Tomorrow." You'll have to get A Classic Cartoon Christmas Too for that gem as well as "Heat Miser/Snow Miser" (from Year Without A Santa Claus).
A quibble: how does A Muppet Christmas classify as CARTOON Christmas?
