The Second Attempt At A Massive Series.......2003-03-19
Rhino graced the world with the massive 25 volume series "Have A Nice Day, The Greatest Hits Of The Seventies." It tried to anthologize the eighties as well, but that decade not only saw the demise of AM radio as a pop music forum, but also saw the division of styles of music, hence rock, pop, country, and all other stations pidgeon holed to program a specfic genre. Oh sure, there are artists still able to "cross over" to pop charts from other genres (Norah Jones), but those artists are now far and few between. The splintering of music led to the failure of this next series. There were only five produced, and all are out of print. Like radio, Rhino had to splinter to produce this series. The songs presented here and on the other four volumes cater to the "AC" crowd, other series produced with the eighties theme include "New Wave Dance Hits." Even with the severe seperation of music style and audience, Rhino produced a fine AC series, which of all eighties music, is the most overlooked. That said, take a look at the fine choice of song here.
"Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes is probably the most hated/loved song of the eighties, Rupert had two more, "Him" and "Answering Machine," "Him" is presented on a later edition of this series.
"This Night Won't Last Forever" is by Michael Johnson, also popular for "Bluer Than Blue." "This Night" has a lilting country feel, similar to the work by England Dan and John Ford Coley. "Do That To Me One More Time" is the standard recorded by The Captain and Tennille. The version here is the referred single, the album version is a touch longer, by fifteen seconds. "An American Dream" is by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the Nitty Gritty dropped from their name during their "pop" career, hence the group title, and their one pop hit. "Your Only Lonely" by JD Souther is a dreamy ballad with a tropical feel. "Romeo's Tune" isn't really known by it's title, you'll know the song when you here it. It's an "Oh, Yeah" moment. Bonnie Pointer left her famous sisters to record her one solo hit, I prefer the 12" mix opposed to the single version presented here. Her "Heaven Must Have Sent You" was recorded and released toward the end of the disco era. Lauren Wood sounds like the missing Doobie Brother with good reason, her minor hit "Please Don't Leave" was produced by hubby Michael McDonald. "Gee Wiz" was a blip on the radio, and should have stayed such. The apparantly ageless Bernadette Peters covering a song from the fifties isn't her style. Melissa Manchester was closing her career at Arista, "Pretty Girls" was a minor hit, a radio friendly upbeat ditty, similar to her late hits on that label. Overall, this collection best represents pure radio hits, it's an excellent collection of AC pop songs beautifully mastered by people who excel in handling vintage material.
A Good Sample of Early 80s AC Pop Hits.......1998-06-29
A few of the more obscure tracks don't stack up against the big hits, "Escape (Pina Colada Song" and "Do That to Me One More Time," but there are some nuggets worth hearing again, some of which can't be found easily on CD. All original versions.

More Filler than Hits.......1998-06-29
As with the first three volumes, too many unfamiliar songs clutter the collection, and too much AC without any variation into other early 80s genres is simply too much after the fourth CD. All original versions.

Lacks a lot of the filler that plagued the earlier volumes, and does include some actual hits ("Bette Davis Eyes," "Just the Two of Us," "Living Inside Myself," and "Sweetheart"), but more could have been done to tighten up this CD. All original versions.

Customer Reviews:
It would give me so much joy to play my favorite song........2007-04-25
This was the third and last album based on the cartoon characters Ren & Stimpy. The storyline is about Ren & Stimpy winning a contest to be DJs at a mobile radio station. The travel the country having misadventures. There are 12 songs based on whatever they happen to be doing, with dialogue in between the songs. The album is somewhat amusing, but not the funniest Ren & Stimpy product ever. It's really only for serious Ren & Stimpy fans.
The final nail in the coffin for Nickelodeon.......2005-06-03
This CD is just another example of the corporate whoring of a beloved series. Not everyone liked Ren and Stimpy because of its grotesque nature; however, it was exactly that nature that propelled it to its revered status as one of the greatest and most original cartoons of all time. Radio Daze is everything Ren and Stimpy is not: bland, unoriginal, monotonous and torpid. The lyrics have no entertainment value at all but do an excellent job of including every mundane meme of the series (powdered toast man, hog jowls, hairballs and muddy mudskipper) in the attempt to provide at least one enjoyable facet to their demographic audience. Memes do not give this album any extra credit.
This CD has been out almost a decade and is probably nonexistant on store shelves, but even if you're feeling nostalgic for the classic duo and are buying memorabilia, leave Radio Daze out of your collection. After kicking John Kricfalusi out, Nickelodeon drained all the originality from his creation and left an unoffensive, boring, parent-pleasing shell.
"The times, they are a changin'..."
makes me SICK!.......2005-03-14
this is probably one of the most pointless CD's i've ever seen. i LOVE Ren and Stimpy; it's one of my favorite shows, and definately the funniest. but this CD is not at all like Ren and Stimpy. where's the sidesplitting laughter that you find in the show? there is none! all i found in these songs was crap! there is nothing good to listen to on this CD!! the songs are boring, stupid, and they sound like someone found them in a dumpster. anyone who buys this CD who is not retarded will be extremely disappointed with this garbage!
For the child in you...........2003-11-05
When I was younger, I would race home after Sunday school and plop down on the couch and watch Ren and Stimpy. Now, everyone that I know hates Ren and Stimpy, but they were something that I grew up watching. I think my father bought my sister and I this tape and we listened to it and laughed at the songs. Anyone who listens to this and tries to get something serious out of it is just as stupid as the characters are peeing on an electric fence. Even though I am an adult, I still like to sing the stupid little ditties from this tape and from the shows to annoy my friends. Radio Daze is cheesy in every way, but I will always remember the words to all the songs, especially Powdered ToastMan...Call me stupid, but it is just something that will stick with me....
Interesting.......2000-11-19
This cd is very interesting. It has the type of sick, twisted humor that you would expect from the television characters: Ren and Stimpy. It's a cd to listen to when you are in an inmature mood because these songs are sang by imature characters to create a laugh.

Over the last decade The Mission UK has proven their magnificent entry to alternative music. In spite of the lack of comercialization , songs like severina, wasteland, deliverance and the best of them "Butterfly on the Wheel" are a proof that this english band is the best selection for alternative rock. As a fan of The Mission UK this is album is the best recopilation of them.
