Laurie Berkner's Victor Vito is a 22-song giggle-fest for the under-7 crowd. Witness "The Goldfish," one of 16 originals on the former educator's third album, in which a bunch of fishies find themselves lathering up in the shower and pedaling furiously on bicycles until it dawns on them that their species doesn't do that sort of thing. And there's the title tune, which finds Victor Vito and Freddie Vasco snacking on a burrito with Tabasco and then tipping the hot stuff on their rice and beans and rutabagas and collard greens before Victor dives into a plate of spaghetti with Freddie. Loopy takes on classics like "O Susannah" round out the acoustic-guitar-driven drollery, and after both "Shakin' Down the Sugar" and an ode to feeling crazy enough to jump in the soup, the last cut, "Goodnight," is a welcome wind down. Berkner blurs the way too distinct line between goofiness and hipness with major aplomb, and this album's simple production, combined with her playful singing voice, seals the deal. There are several really great songs on this album (Victor Vito, Froggy Went a Courtin, The Moon Song, I'm Not Perfect all come to mind) but several that my 2 yr old daughter just cannot get into. This is the only L Berkner album where this has happened. Lots of songs on this one, but we have to skip several. That being said, Laurie is a fantastic folk singer and overall we love her stuff.

Another one the daughter picked out, but this time we were ready to find this. My daughter saw Laurie on "Jacks Big Music Show" one afternoon, singing about a cow on her head. Yeah, the daughter went around sining this song and we were at first wondering about it, but found it. Unfortunately it is NOT on this CD, but the music that is is great. Just like Dan Zanes and Friends, the music is family friendly, and very catchy.

I highly recommend this album, and urge everyone to stay away from Barney-like music.

My 3.5 yr old son LOVES singing along to Laurie Berkner, and my husband and think it is very catchy without being annoying. I will catch myself listening to it when I turn on the car and the kids are NOT in the car!

A fabulous album for the little ones packed with fun tunes! Laurie Berkner does a terrific job for kids! Would buy these as great gifts!

This is a great CD for kids of all ages and it's enjoyable for adults too. I put this in the cd player and hit repeat and we listen to it two and three times through aithout getting the least bit bored. I just sent the cd to a friend for her 2 yr old daughter and she just loves it (and her mom agrees, the music is 'adult friendly').

The CD or DVD for this concert will show the fine art of recital and Larmore sure knows how to give a good one! She and Palloc build to a wonderful payoff and during the way we get to see what a versatile, talented, and smart performer Larmore is. She totally understands Weill and gives a heartbreaking rendition of "Je ne t'aime pas" - I get chills everytime I hear it. The same for Quilters "Love's Philosophy".

Fans of La Larmore will not be let down. Those not familiar with this great Mezzo will understand what all the fuss is about. Brava Jennifer! Keep the great music coming.

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Bel Canto Opera.......2005-06-22

Lucrezia Borgia was first produced in 1833, 18 months after Donizetti's comic masterpiece, L'elisir D'Amore. The music is quintessential bel canto, dominated by the title role, which needs a firebrand soprano to do it justice.
There are two studio recordings, this one made in 1965, and another one 12 years later with Joan Sutherland, Giacomo Aragall, Marilyn Horne, and Ingvar Wixell. While that is a stellar case, this recording is the benchmark.
Montserrat Caballe was 32 when she made this recording, shortly after she revived this opera in a concert production at Carnegie Hall, and was never in better voice. Shirley Verrett was one of the great mezzo-sopranos, and her performance in the trouser role of Orsini is just riveting. Enzo Flagello was a regular at the Met in the 1960s, and sings a robust and solid Alfonso.
But the revelation here is the soaring voice of the woefully under-recorded Spanish tenor Alfredo Kraus. He was a member of a rare and dying breed--a true "tenor di grazia", a high-flying lyric tenor able to spin a supple legato as well as hit the high Cs and Ds. With perfectly secure and seemingly effortless technique and wonderful phrasing, his duets with both Caballe and Verrett are simply magical. One realizes why many critics consider him one of the finest tenors of the 20th century. Listening to this opera will let you understand what bel canto truly means, and what all the excitement is about. If you enjoy bel canto opera, then this recording is a MUST HAVE.
