Cada Nino (Every Child)

Cada Nino/Every Child, a collection of songs for children, is more down-to-earth than Tish Hinojosa's other 1996 release, the overblown Dreaming from the Labyrinth/Sonar del Laberinto. Her lovely soprano delivers such simple, appealing songs as Carl Martin's "The Barnyard Dance" and her own "Simply for Love" in both Spanish and English, making this an invaluable aid in bilingual situations. Less successful is Hinojosa's decision to have children play shaky solos and sing cloying harmonies on several numbers. --Geoffrey Himes --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars Magical. Every parent should have this........2005-02-01

Tish Hinojosa's voice is incredibly rich, and soothing to the soul. The meaning in the lyrics of "Every Child" gives me chills every time I hear them. When I get short tempered with my kids I put this on and we dance to it in the living room, and it gets us all in good moods again. In case the lyrics aren't posted on the description page, here they are: "Every child believes in good tomorrow brings. Every child's our faith to hold. What we leave behind and want them to find, Is what we are today. Laughter voices tender choices, Their love gives to us. Sad the day we take away Their sweet liberty"

She also has a beautiful lullaby and a tribute to her abuelita (beloved grandmother) on the CD (song #3), a playful swing song about vegetables dancing in the barnyard, and a great song about the Mexican women soldiers. Well. All the songs are unparalleled. And it's a nice touch that she sings the lyrics in English and then in Spanish.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs even if you don't speak Spanish!.......2004-01-28

We don't know more than a handful of Spanish words in our household but this cd is one of our favorites. Each song is in Spanish and English and both parts are beautifully sung. Barnyard Dance is my 4-year old's favorite but I like Magnolia. Absolutely a great tool for those learning to speak Spanish, but also a great children's cd for anyone!

5 out of 5 stars A Spanish Teacher's Perspective.......2003-11-15

I teach high school Spanish and this CD was recommended to me by an online friend who is also a Spanish teacher. I used the song, "Hasta los muertos salen a bailar" to teach my students Day of the Dead (Día de los muertos) vocabulary. I thought that maybe they would hate it and think it was too childish for them, but the freshmen definitely got into it.

It's a great CD in general. Tish Hinojosa has a great, folksy voice and the songs are very singable. I enjoyed just listening to it at home by myself. I think it would be even more popular with Spanish teachers of elementary and middle school levels.

5 out of 5 stars My Favorite CD.......2003-05-21

I love Cada Nino - I am trying to learn Spanish and introduce it to my kids- I bought Muzzy - not a big crowd pleaser- I bought Musical Spanish- more for me than for them- and then I found Cada Nino - it is so pretty- the songs are great- I love that the words are included- I love Always Abuelita. What wonderful music- I actually feel like I know Tish and feel the love she has for her family and heritage.

5 out of 5 stars ...from a music teacher.......2002-12-21

Tish Hinojosa's Cada Nino/Every Child CD has been one of my favorites for a number of years. I am thrilled that she now has the accompanying songbook. The songs are published with melody and chords, so are easily accompanied with piano and/or guitar. Beautiful and fun music, outstanding illustrations, and the value of bilingual experiences...this book is a real winner for both English and Spanish speakers!
