Really Rosie

Carole King's 11 songs for the Really Rosie TV special (it originally aired in 1975) came from characters found in Maurice Sendak's books The Sign on Rosie's Door and Nutshell Library, but it can easily be argued that the characters never really lived until given voice by King. Ostensibly the story of Rosie--a little girl from Avenue P, who, dontcha know, is a star just waiting to be discovered--there are other delightful characters here, including Johnny ("who lived by himself and liked it like that!") and Pierre (who learns to care after being eaten by a lion). There are also a couple of straight-up educational songs: one an alphabet song (the wonderfully alliterative "Alligators All Around"), the other a calendar song ("Chicken Soup with Rice"). Great music that's delightful for children and parents alike, Really Rosie remains a family favorite for all the right reasons. --Randy Silver --This text refers to the Audio CD edition. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
From Parents' Choice®
What a joy! Carole King's 1975 pop album, based on Maurice Sendak's book, "Really Rosie Starring the Nutshell Kids," has returned, and it's available for the first time on CD. Newly mastered, this release (originally on Lou Adler's Ode Records label) is a series of memorably written and performed songs revolving around 10-year-old, "great big deal" Rosie. The leader supreme of her Brooklyn block, Rosie gives credit to "My Simple, Humble Neighborhood" for her greatness, harbors a fierce wish... read more --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

I don't know about this as an import item, but this cd is one of the all time greatest kids' albums. I grew up listening to it (and reading the books) and I can't wait to share it with my kids.

Memories..........2007-01-22
This is a must for Really Rosie and Carole King fans alike! I am stunned that the DVD is not out on the market! So many memories this music brings back. I hope to share the movie with my daughter as I have the music she's come to love.
Great rare find for Carole King fans.......2007-01-09
Not long after her overwhelming success with TAPESTRY C. King collaborated with Maurice Sendak for this 1975 television special. There are at least 5 wonderful songs on this album from the title song to "Chicken Soup With Rice" (classic King 70's sound-fun!) that will have you and your kids dancing in the living room.
No Trip Down Memory Lane....Just Good Music.......2006-08-28
My two toddlers love Scholastics "Where The Wild Things Are" DVD, which features some of the songs on this Carole King CD. It was the DVD that inspired me to purchase this CD, because the songs are infectious and well done. I'm not a fan of Carole King, and this is not a trip down memory lane for me, just some of the best music for kids that I have run across. If you are unfamiliar with these tunes, the original stage production, and/or the Maurice Sendak books from which the lyrics are lifted, don't let that keep you from purchasing some of the most creative and imaginative music available for kids. I am very glad I did. We crank it up in the car have a blast!
I love this CD..........2006-04-09
I have been looking for this CD for years. When I was little I said "I don't Care" all the time when I was asked a question. My parents played it for me. I own the CD and plan to play it for my daughter.
I wish they would release the cartoons on DVD.
Sooo good!.......2006-03-27
My 7 month old loves this cd as do I. It is fun playing it in the car singing along and remembering the first time I saw the Really Rosie special in second grade. There isn't a more enjoyable cd for the adults and kiddos alike. I highly recommend this cd!

the logic of this compilation eludes me.......2002-07-09
Carole King is great, no doubt - but what's the point of throwing 'Tapestry' and 'Greatest Hits' into one box????? As a result, five songs are featured twice on this set (And 'Smackwater' actually three times...good grief). For an intro to King, get the similarly priced 'A Natural Woman'.
Carole King Box set review.......2000-10-31
This box set is pretty good if you're a Carol King fan. This album does have some unspectacular songs on it, but it also has a good number of hits. I recommend this album to anyone who enjoys the music of Carole King and to anyone who wants to get to know her music better.
