Funny and charming.......2005-07-09
I bought this CD for my daughter and found the songs funny and charming in a sort of retro-hip way. It's very upbeat and a great alternative to those tired, annoying cds for kids.
The songs are more sophisticated than, for example, those offered by "the purple beast," but not so much so that kids wouldn't "get it." I can see not being in the mood for this all the time, but that's true for any CD, especially those for kids.
Another reviewer seems to have a lot of hostility about this CD for no reason I can see...it sounds like a personal problem. Seriously, dude, it's for kids....
A Bravo For Victoria!.......2004-06-11
I read the other reviewer who seems to want to embarrass a wonderfully gifted artist like miss Jackson by running their scathing review of her CD over and over and over again. To that reviewer I say....you can stop now.....we get the point. So now you get this point. What we have here is a kind, gentle, and loving spirit who sees so much darkness in the world and wants to spread some sunshine with her feel good approach to entertainment. This comes at a time when vulgarity and smut seems to be the only formula for success. I am a professional musician and entertainer and I've worked with the biggest names in showbiz....and yes many of them sang off key. (Sonny and Cher come to mind and we loved them)! You see a great entertainer is one who can take you to a place that allows you to forget your troubles and make you want to just keep smiling and grinning. Miss Jackson does that with style and grace. She is a first rate class act and I for one am proud of her. So there!
You'll smile all the way through........2004-02-29
The moment you hear her,
1. You will know she sings off key.
2. You will totally fall in love with her.
3. You will be taken in completely with her charm.
And I don't need to list this review 12 times just to slant the rating average.
In vaery bad taste..........2000-12-04
If you liked Mitch Miller's awful sing-a-long lp's in the 50's, you'll love this CD, where Victoria Jackson sings more often out of key, then in. Bad arangements and cheezy back up singers, amount to only so much muzak. This CD is insulting to me(not to mention very tacky sounding), because I am someone who thinks that the 20's style JAZZ Ukelele player/singer needs to be preserved(the music of Cliff Edwards, et. al.). One person who is doing it very well in the 20's tradition is Janet Klein & Her Parlor Boys, she can play the Uke(I don't mean Hawaiian style, I mean ragtime, and jazz) and she sings in the Annette Hanshaw, and Jane Green tradition. an upbeat and engaging collection of singalong songs.......1999-07-20
We love this tape! Makes you want to go out and buy a ukulele! The choice of songs are a breathe of fresh air from the standard kid's music fare. Ms. Jackson's tunes are guaranteed to put you in a good mood! Thanks Ukulele Lady.
