Very good show which I hadn't heard of..........2007-05-13

I was very into theatre in high school and college and thought I was up on most musicals, but had never heard of this show until recently. It's comprised of three short stories which were adapted into the musical format. The first two stories are tied together very well, although the last seems tacked on. But the songs are catchy and it's fairly easy to figure out what's happening simply by listening to the songs. There are two songs which are tied for my favoritism: "It's a Fish" from Adam and Eve and "You Are Not Real" from Passionella. Check it out.

THE APPLE TREE (1966 ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST).......2007-04-10

IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WENT TO THE REVIVAL OF THE APPLE TREE ON BROADWAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOVED THE SCORE BUT THERE WASN'T A SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE SO I PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL VERSION AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

I still remember these songs after 40 years.......2006-11-05

I saw this show on the stage when it first ran, and have never forgotten it. The key to a good Broadway show is this question: Are you humming the songs when you leave the theatre? In the case of The Apple Tree, the answer is a resounding "Yes." I have been waiting 40 years for this show to be revived, and I have tickets for the revival opening in December at the Roundabout. I hope not to be disappointed, for the trio of Barbara Harris, a very young Alan Alda, and the late Larry Blyden were terrific. The three-part concept can be jarring because just when you're getting into the story, it ends -- but just enjoy the kind of songs they just don't write anymore.

Really 2.5.......2006-07-25

SO this is another show thats actually three one acts. The first "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is the best by far. It has really cute songs and nice plot. Thats the only reason I rounded this up from 2.5 to 3 stars. The rest of the show is nothing great. "Lady and Tiger" is short and boring. And "Passionella" is exactly what it sounds like, a knock off of Cinderella. But hey, its a good show for collectors and "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is nice. Favorite Song: "Its A Fish"

Boring material that you forget very easily.......2006-06-29

According to some reviews, this musical was supposed to be very good and I bought it. Unfortunately, I was quite dissapointed. It's composed of three different tales, the first one referring to the Adam & Eve biblical story. The lyrics here are very silly and tedious. The second tale, "The Lady or the Tiger?" contains songs that are simply awful, probably the worst ever written for a Broadway show. The third story, "Passionella", contains music that does nothing to make things better. The album contains a good informative booklet in English, German, French & Italian (as Sony uses to do)which says that Time magazine defined this show as "three moldy figs". I entirely agree. I would recommend this musical to those suffering from insomnia: it will put them to sleep right away.

Following hot on the heels of their enormously successful collaboration for The Lion King, Elton John and Tim Rice have once again culled their talents to create another Disney contemporary musical, based this time on Verdi's opera Aida. The album, recorded by some of the biggest talents of pop, country, and R&B, features songs from the stage show, which recounts the well-known tale of a love triangle further complicated by slavery, royalty, and the armed forces. John duets to great effect with country crooner LeAnn Rimes, the enchanting Janet Jackson, and the lovely Lulu of To Sir with Love fame. Lush and lively, the soundtrack hits a hoot of a (decidedly not highbrow) high point with the infectious pop of the Spice Girls warbling the merits of undergarments on "My Strongest Suit" ("Always wear underwear/Anytime, anywhere"). Lenny Kravitz funks things up with "Like Father Like Son." Shania Twain's husky emoting makes a fine pop ballad of the brief "Amneris' Letter." "Not Me" chronicles the goodness of love as Boyz II Men coo dreamily, their harmonies nestling into John's sumptuous score. --Paige La Grone

I'm so impressed with this album for several different reasons.
3) It's Elton John
2) I loved all but two of the songs!
1) I usually hate the original broadway cast albums and movie soundtracks. They don't do the songs justice. They usually have chopped up versions of the songs and include unnecessary dialouge.

I'd love to see every musical (broadway or movie) done this way!
I appreciate the b'way versions, but I don't want to listen to them in my car...

This is a very good CD. "Written in the Stars" is an extremely emotional song, and it is my favorite on the album. I would like to see the show on Broadway, but I have to say I don't think it can be too much better than this CD

Sour Concepts.......2003-06-29

It takes so much to try to get a musical to make its way upon Broadway. Sometimes you really need to understand how to make it really happen within the passion of the storytelling music. In that case with Elton John, he nearly seemed to make it with Aida. While the music for Broadway always seems to have at least something completely mgaical and a dash of power in it. Sometimes, you really need to understand it, to make it happen, and others don't see it from the start. Although Elton John has had great music for years, at least once in a era, something goes a little flat.

The 1999 Aida, was not a studio album from Elton, but a preview from what was happen on Broadway. The various artists record contains so many different artists in the record including Tina Turner, Boyz II Men, Dru Hill, and the upcoming Heather Headley. Before Heather made it as a singer, she made it right here in Aida, on this record. The only decent song that was a hit was Written In The Stars, which Elton performed with Leann Rimes. The song was also the last song Elton cracked Billboard's Top 40. Still, there really wasn't a lot of enjoyment within most of the record, and it fell into a sleeper. Considering that Elton is already planning on making another smash musical on Broadway, hopefully he'll do better with the concept record.

When it does come to making it on Broadway, it isn't really anything exciting, unless it truly is a smash, and Aida is a smash on Broadway, just not the record. Still, if you're a die hard fan of Aida, buy this record. Otherwise, it could be a hitless miss.

Living Elaborate Lives..........2002-11-02

Aida was Elton John and Tim Rice's baby, providing a concept soundtrack album before even setting the stage on fire, the tracks are generally sweeping show ballads.
Elton teams up with several lovely and talented ladies, in LeAnn Rimes, Janet Jackson, and Lulu. "Written In The Stars" could be a vocal gladiator battle, the way LeAnn and Elton sing it. Janet and Lulu prove themselves as more mellow duet partners.
Kelly Price makes "The Gods Love Nubia" her own, the song is tied up in soul with her voice being smooth as silk. The far too short "Amneris' Letter" shows off Shania Twain's voice to perfection also. Pop culture phenomenon the Spice Girls turn "My Strongest Suit" into the most obvious pop stomper of this set. Another strong point is Heather Headley's solo "Elaborate Lives". A rich ballad, Headley recently embarked on an R&B singing career with the track "He Is". The legendary Tina Turner provides a fiery perfomance, her track being the powerful "Easy As Life" with Angelique Kidjo.
Duds are also present, Sting and Dru Hill's tracks are admitted stinkers. James Taylor, Boyz II Men, Sherie Scott, and Lenny Kravitz also deliver perfomances on the album. This album is well put together, with strong tunes and a short-list of superstars presenting them. A fun buy.

I purchased this CD as a Christmas gift for a friend who is a big Shirley Caesar fan. She is very pleased with the music. I bought one for me, as well. Haven't listened to my copy yet, but I liked the songs I heard when I previewed the CD prior to purchase.

God has been soooo good to me since I found my love in him and my Lord and savior Jesus Christ,I'm a member of this incredible woman's church for 3 yrs and you just don't know how much she and her husband Bishop Williams have tought me in their preachings,I haved learned to accept death when my family members leave me, and I know that we will be together agin,I lost my Best friend from the ages of 5 yrs old,I didnt find out she passed until 2 months later,then I lost an Aunt and at this time Paster had lost her sister,I felt her pain,saaaw her tears and still felt her passion and love for the Lord,I have been so busy with family and my husband I haven't been to church in about 3 weeks and I know Pastor is gonna tel me "Let her get a switch" this album had me crying while driving on the song "everyday is mothers day" I felt her pain through this incredible track,and I began to call on the Lord to help my mother touch,heal her heart and mind and body the Dr's can write you a presciption but JESUS can do the healing,I had the privealedge to witness Pastor and Tonex sing this title track on her Birthday"I hoped she liked the gift I got her" But above all this album is so amazing, I mean it has been anointed by God himself I know this is the truth because I could "FEEL" the healing of the Lord all through my body I HAD to pull over on side the road and let the spirit finsh what he started,This album is a spiritual healing album it touches EVERY pain and situation in ANYONE's life,If you have strayed from the LORD PLEASE IT'S NOT TO LATE CALL THE NAME OF JESUS RIGHT NOW.Halleuah Praise God, give him some PRAISE, He's worthy of an honorable praise.

Shirley i have to thank you for coming out with this album. My faith in the lord was just about gone, until i heard this amazing album. That one song I know the truth help restore my faith in the lord. This album is the soundtrack of my life. If u didnt come out with an album like this, i dont think i would be here typing now. Simply Amazing! Pastor Shirley Caesar does it again........2005-09-13

I was totally satisfied. I believe this is her best album. The song "I know the Truth" is excellent! "Touch, Heal and Deliver" is a good song, but I feel it has a little too much bass. I don't usually like songs about mothers - but I was surprised with my reaction with the song "Everyday is like Mother's day". I was really moved by that song! It's beautiful. "Miracles Still Happen" is awesome and very encouraging. Although tolerable, I really didn't love the song "Jailbird"...it's just not me. But "The debt I owe" was excellent in every way - music and Shirley's vocals. She sings the song as no one else could...and her timing in the song is fantastic! In my opinion, the two songs that best display her awesome vocals are "I've been Redeemed" (She sings it so lovely that I wish it wasn't a duet) and "Come To The Altar"...simply marvelous. All in all, my biggest complaint about the CD is that she sounds somewhat "far" in most of the songs. In other words, her voice is not always clear and it has NOTHING to do with her singing - it's all about the studio recording. Despite all of that - Shirley's new album blessed me so much. I absolutely LOVE it and I recommend it to everyone! Buy it as soon as you can!

Caesar Records Best Album of Career.......2005-09-08

Been a Shirley Caesar fan for almost 20 years, and it is clear that she has saved the best for last. No doubt that this record could easily be the greatest that she has ever done! High energy power packed Gospel sung as only Caesar can do! Buy it!
