So Natural

Editorial Reviews
Album Description
2003 was a busy year for Salvador, releasing two full albums and a live concert DVD. After taking home the Dove Award for 'Spanish Language Album of the Year' for Con Poder in 2004, the group put its usual relentless touring schedule on hold to create their next English language studio record. The result, So Natural, is clearly this Austin, Texas band's most compelling work to date--a perfect brdige between the Latin-rock sound for which Salvador has become known, and a more soulful modern-rock vibe that's a perfect fit for CHR radio.

So Natural, Music, Salvador, CCM, Christian, Latin CCM, Latin Gospel, Pop, Religious / Contemp. Christian

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST of Salvador.......2007-05-13

Salvador is a band that has this unique latin rock style, but sang in english. For me, this is their MASTERPIECE. Every single song has something good to give, from the very first beginning, till the last second of the last song, letters and music. I'm so glad I got this CD, I listened to it basically every day! I've read that many nonchristian people also like Salvador, so that means that this guys made an excellent job with this album without a doubt.

I highly recommend this album to anyone who thinks Salvador isn't that good. That just means that you've never heard their best stuff, which is in this cd.

EXCELLENT product.

5 out of 5 stars One of my Favorite Albums EVER!.......2007-03-15

This album is incredible, both music and lyrics. There is something for everyones mucical taste, from hard rock to soft ballad to traditional salsa, the band draws from various styles and yet does them in a way that appeals to anyone who loves music. And the lyrics......well, I haven't been so emotionally moved while listening to 'This is My Life' ever. I listen to alot of music, from Sting, Steely Dan, Green Day, Dave Mathews, Miles Davis...., and this is one of my favorite albums ever.

5 out of 5 stars So Good.......2006-11-03

My favorite CD and my favorite band, except for maybe Weird Al's new one.

5 out of 5 stars Love this music!.......2006-08-12

I heard Heaven on the radio and ran to my Christian music store to get it. Fortunately they didn't have this one. I bought the one they had (Into Motion) without hearing any songs and loved it. Finally found this one at the Unity Festival in Muskegon where Salvador played live tonight. I'm going to buy all their music and hope they come back to Unity again. (This was their second or third appearance.)

Even if you're not a Christian music fan I think you will like Salvador's So Natural if you like Santana or Gloria Estefan.

5 out of 5 stars Lovin it 'Heaven'.......2006-06-06

Great CD. I keep playing 'Heaven' over and over. I just discovered this song when I went to the WORD site recently. I took a chance on this CD because I liked 'Heaven'. To me it sounds a bit like Huey Lewis and the News. Great beat. Right now I'm listening to the rest of the album. I'm liking what I hear. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars So Natural So Good!.......2006-11-14

Record companies are strange at times, Lisa's third cd didn't get a US release because the label felt this wasn't commerical enough for the US market and asked Lisa to make some changes and she said NO! and so the cd wasn't released here! and what a shame because this a great cd! Lisa's voice is smooth on this project and the songs! The arrangements have a more mellow, jazzier grooves. Thanks to some smooth jazz radio stations 'Never Set Me Free' & 'So Natural' got some good airplay, every time these songs got played the dj would get phone calls as to where to get these songs and he had to say it's on an import cd, this proves that this cd would've done well here if the proper promotion was behind it! thanks to Tower records we were able to get this! 'Goodbye', 'Be Mine', 'Marvellous & Mine' are just some of the highlights on this cd! I highly recommend this cd!!

4 out of 5 stars Great album, superb voice.......2005-05-04

I once read a magazine article with Lisa Stansfield in which she "apologised" to her fans for this album, saying she got too self indulgent with the songs and "lost the plot"...all I can say is that if this shows Lisa at her most personal, then please, please, can we have more of the same?
This is the only album by Lisa Stansfield that I REALLY like, the others all struck me as rather safe and formulaic. But here, the songs are full of great melodies, instrumentation, soul, and of course, Lisa's wonderful voice. As soon as the lush title track is over, the 2nd song "Never Set Me Free" surprises you immediately with its languid tempo and 70's lounge influenced horn instrumentation. It's a seductive and sexy number that keeps you swaying along all the way through it. And it's not the only one. For a similar vein try "Sweet Memories": just as easy on the ear, and a bit more bittersweet lyrically. Even better is "She's Always There", a really poignant and touching ballad about a loyal but mistreated woman. Again, a great shuffling rhythm and as always, outstanding vocals from Lisa. For uptempo numbers, the album is well served by "Too Much Lovemaking" and "Marvellous and Mine", the latter being a personal favourite, with a really tight and funky beat to it. Actually, the production of all the songs is very economical all round, which sounds like a criticism, but I am being positive here, as I think it makes for a surpisingly effective minimalist and lean feel, with not an ounce of fat on any of the tracks. Cutting away unnecessary elaboration leaves the songs crisp and immediately catchy, and it's a trend I would love to see other artists try and emulate. My least favourite track on the album is one that seems a common favourite, going by other reviewers opinions of this album - I don't like the re-working of the John Barry song "In All The Right Places" (from Indecent Proposal), that appears on this CD, which does not hold a candle to the classier and slightly darker version that appears on the original soundtrack CD (also with Lisa as vocalist). Still, you could also buy that soundtrack, as it's a great album as well! But Lisa Stansfield fans - don't pass up this album. I've only mentioned a few tracks by name, but nearly every song is a winner. Lisa should let her intuition guide her more often, in my opinion, if this is the result.

5 out of 5 stars My second favorite Lisa CD.......2003-06-10

This CD is truly some kind of bliss. Lisa's velvety voice will wrap you all around and leave you... well, craving. It's that good. "In All The Right Places", "Too Much Love Makin'", "So Natural", "Wish It Could Always Be This Way" are all classics. The only other album by Lady Elegance that surpasses this one is her eponymous effort, "Lisa Stansfield". If you like Lisa, you can't miss out on this jewel!

5 out of 5 stars Wish It Could Always Be This Way!.......2003-01-05

WHY? This Cd Was Not Released In The USA Is Unbelieveable! Lisa Had Just Came Off Two GREAT Cds (AFFECTION & REAL LOVE) And Was In Her Glory! This Cd Is Filled With Great Songs..."Marvellous & Mine", "Little Bit Of Heaven", "In All The Right Places" & "Too Much Love Makin'" Are All Amazing & Classic Lisa! Buy It Now That You Can!

5 out of 5 stars This is a big loss for America.......2001-12-29

for some strange reason, Lisa Stansfield is not well known in the US. This British singer from Manchester is probably one of the best soul singers in the world. Her repertoire varies from soul to pop, capitalizing on her tremendous voice and great melodic tunes. I would recommend this album to anyone. I have never been a big soul fan but I fell completely for this one. This is a great album with great songs. Another one of her pearls that I enjoy very much is her self titled album. Buy both and you can also throw in Real Love if you liked the first two.
