Following the formula that has already yielded them 16 No. 1 songs in the contemporary Christian music market, Phillips, Craig & Dean are back with harmony-laden uptempo hits, poignant ballads, and soulful rave-ups. Keeping true to form, these three pastors strike gold immediately with the hard-charging and anthemic title track, perhaps one of their finer moments in the studio. Give producer Phil Naish credit here for not only adding a full-band feel with the pounding drums and chiming acoustic guitars, but also for stretching the boundaries of Dan Dean's pop-hit vocals. The same can be said for "One Single Light," another sure-fire top single. Randy Phillips's strong, reliable R&B influence can be felt on "Living for Heaven" and "New Millennium." And Shawn Craig balances the energy and slows it down in his superb ballad "A Place Called Grace." All in all, another winner for PC&D--and not bad work for these full-time pastors' second job. --Michael Lyttle

Take a look at the running times:

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes

What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.

Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.

This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.

This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.

This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!

I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

This album has such a sophisticated sound and it's very creative. I haven't heard a fusion of music like this before. Truly East meets West. I love all the tracks. If you have the chance, make sure you listen to the Reinterpretations album. They've re-recorded a bunch of tracks from the CD.

I heard a sample track of this CD from a friend of mines and love the blend of traditional music, jazz, hip hop and easy listening to this CD. I am glad to have gotten this CD and am waiting for another sequel.

Extending across the genres of jazz, pop, dance, and hip-hop, The Shanghai Restoration Project is a unique offering that blends Chinese traditional instruments with English vocals and Western styling. Bold artistic statements like this are a sign of the future, and really reflect Dave Liang's visionary style and Chinese American background. Avenue Joffre and the various incarnations of Miss Shanghai are my picks for the best "hits" out of the lot, but all of the tracks are particularly well done. A definite buy for anyone who enjoys innovative music!

Pianist-composer Bob James has been a mainstay on the contemporary jazz scene from the early '70s to today. His bell-like electric piano sound made him a radio favorite and a Grammy Award winner. This two-CD set contains James's greatest hits. Bob James will be reminded as one of the most remarkable innovators of the new sounds of jazz and ture herald of what we commonly denominate as smooth jazz. His sense of the musicality and extraordinary talent made of him a pathfinder. His musical colleagues such Earl Klugh or David Sanborn have been launched by this driving force, an anthological legend named Bob James.

This set is a fundamental compilation of his best works, with first - rate sound.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a Compilation for the Great Man! Great Sound!.......2005-12-03

I have to confess that I only really got this disc because I loved "Angela-The Theme From Taxi" and so I didn't really want to get everything the man has ever done and so I waited and searched high and low for a cd like this and my prayers were answered! Not only did I finally get the track but I was very impressed by the other tracks on the 2 discs. Great smooth jazz and although no mention of any remastering is made clearly on the disc, I have to say that the sound quality is amazing! I've heard many "remastered" discs that are blatant misrepresentations and only a very few that are clear improvements over the original but this disc sounds a lot better than even many of those! For the lover of smooth jazz and those who want to get a great truly representative best of compilation of the man but not get all the albums, this is the best version that's currently out there and I think the only one really. Highly recommended.

Bob James music has been a major soundtrack for my life since 1974 (and Earl Klugh 1977) replacing the Beatles(rock)of my adolescence as a major influence! The compilation as a whole is excellent but I was really disappointed by the edits of "Kari" and "Feel Like Making Love". Anyone not familiar with Bob James' music probably wouldn't notice a thing and still enjoy these tracks. The only thing I could relate this to in some manner, is like hearing the "Top 40" version of "Light my Fire" by the Door's or "Oye Como Va" by Santana versus the longer versions on the albums.
The edit of "Kari" trucates Earl Klugh's "gorgeous" acoustic guitar solo and the edit of "Feel like Making Love" chops Bob James electric piano solo that defines so much of the style of his later work!

I like all the songs, but some of my favorites are not on here. This guy has dozens and dozens of amazing songs, and they are really diverse, so it's hard to pick his greatest. If you are contemplating getting this because you like one of his songs or works, I'd just start buying his individual releases. Avoid the most recent (Dancing on the Water) until you've tried some of his other, better stuff. Try Sign of the Times, or Grand Piano Canyon. Listen, this guy has so much good stuff you wouldn't believe it. And the stuff that sounds lame at first grows on you. If you get this greatest hits and like it but then hesitate to get indivual releases, don't worry, some of his releases are so good that every song is good.

I was given this Cd and I have been hooked ever since.
When God Ran is simply beautiful, as is A Place Called Grace.
New Millenium is upbeat and stylish, yet gets the message across.
This started the love of PC & D for me and I'm now a dedicated fan of their's. They are wonderful.

I have actually never seen the movie "Restoration," but stumbled across the soundtrack some years ago. I have since given it as a gift to every classical music nut I know.

The soundtrack to "Restoration" is an uncannily seamless blend of orchestral and chamber music (mostly Henry Purcell) with the modern-day scoring of the peerless James Newton Howard. Purcell's "King Arthur" and "The Fairy Queen" are used here, and Howard melds his work with Purcell's so beautifully that I think somewhere in heaven, Purcell must be smiling down at Howard.

It's an astonishing soundtrack, filled with gorgeous music that suggests floral tapestries, lutists wandering through a grassy field, richly appointed thrones, crowned heads, corseted ladies and bewigged gentlemen, but most of all, an urgency implied by love and ardor. It's just magnificent. One of these days, I've got to see the movie!

With Snow falling on Cedars, he entranced me. With Dinosaur, he amazed me. But despite these precedents, in his score for Restoration, James Newton Howard managed to astonish me again. He has created some incredible Baroque-esqe music, sounding somewhat akin to Trevor Jones' score for Gulliver's Travels. The powerful recurring theme, best heard in 'The Fire', must be one of the best themes of film music, and, though it pops up often, never becomes repetitive. James Newton Howard's original music puts the likes of Purcell, which it is buried amongst, to shame. The best track must be 'The Cabinet Of Curiosities'. A splendid score.

I love this CD! The movie is great too. My favorite tracks are 27-"The Fire", 9-"The Wedding",and 2-"Main Titles". The whole score is great! I bought this without seeing the movie and the CD did well on its own. When I finally saw the movie a week later, the score was even better when it was in the film.

Well, I've found a yet another use for Latin. This music is without question Most Beautiful to Hear. I love the movie Restoration. It is so visually stunning I would watch it all the time if I could. The same came be said for the soundtrack. This is the first time I have ever been struck by the music while watching a movie. The music is full of emotion and spirit. If you've never heard it, I pity you, and if you don't like it, I'm concerned about you! Everyone get this CD,it is the best that will ever be (with the exception of The Four Seasons). Et quid agitis hodie?

The music of this film stayed with me long after the movie was over. It is one of the most moving soundtracks I have ever heard. You will not be disappointed.

    This is an inspirational CD, collecting some of Rev. Graham's sermons and heartwarming music from his many years of service to the Lord. Who can resist Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, The Lord's Prayer, Just As I Am, and others - they bring tears to the eyes and lump to the throat.

    4 out of 5 stars Rarities For The Mengelberg Collector.......2005-04-20

    Gratitude is due to Tahra for its excellent transfers of these previously un-issued "live" performances by the great Dutch conductor Willem Mengelberg. Anyone who relishes superb playing by a great ensemble will find these accounts infinitely fascinating. As interpretations, however, they will seem willful and, especially in the Brahms, downright perverse to those who prefer a more "straightforward" approach in music making.

    For me, the performance that makes this set a must-have is the glorious "Eroica." There seems to be some controversy as to the actual date of this performance - apparently it's either from 1942 (Tahra's guess) or from 1944 (which would make it one of Mengelberg's last recorded "live" concert readings). The Dutchman's studio effort from 1940, for sheer ensemble clarity, is one of the best-played accounts on disc: it's available in excellent transfers from Andante (see my review) and Pearl. But as this Tahra release amply demonstrates, Mengelberg was, like Furtwangler, even more free-wheeling in concert than he was in the studio. Everything is just a little more exaggerated here: the tympani are more prominent (and superbly played!), the rubato is more pronounced, and climaxes are even more exciting. The slow mvt. is intensely eloquent. Oddly, there is far less use of string portamento than previously. The horn playing is to die for in the Scherzo. This is surely an account worth having on the shelf, alongside other romantic excursion guides (e.g., Furtwangler, Abendroth, Knappertsbusch), as a sharp contrast to the excellent, but more "classically-restrained," readings by Weingartner (Opus Kura), Kleiber (Decca) and Schuricht (EMI).

    The Beethoven 2nd is very similar to the "live" 1940: both strike me as extremely well-played but just too heavy for this more Haydn-esque work. I prefer Mengelberg's studio 8th (Pearl CD) to this live one, which has a ludicrous ritard just before the 1st mvt. recapitulation, plus some spotty playing elsewhere.

    Mengelberg made great studio recordings of Brahms symphonies 2-4, but never got around to the 1st. I have long regarded his "live" 1940 performance of the latter (mine is on an old Japanese Philips LP) as an intriguing but singularly odd interpretation. This Tahra account from 1943 is even more "over the top." It features so many speed changes within each mvt. that the music becomes utterly sectionalized and episodic. For a "romantic" Brahms 1st, I think Furtwangler and Abendroth are far more persuasive.

    Recommended to already-converted Mengelberg admirers.

    Coming off the success of 'Speak to my Heart' is 'Thank you Jesus'. Fave tunes are the title cut, What a Love, How Long, and No Problem too Big. The audio quality is not the best, and the musicianship could have been much better. But I blame this primarily on the folks at Savoy records. They have a well-documented history of marketing low-budget, poorly recorded albums of their artists extending all the way back to those early James Cleveland records. But buy this for the outstanding singing of the choir, which was, in its day, very underrated. This was probably due to fact that it was overshadowed by the prodigious talents of their leader, Donnie McClurkin.

    I first heard this cassette tape(I was just fresh into listening to gospel music) and heard the song Thank you Jesus. Well I had to find the tape and when I did I played it over and over and over and over some more, because like I said I was new to the gospel music world. My tape poped and upset was I. Then Donnie McCluklin came into the gospel front and I told people I know that voice from some where I could not place it, but some where I heard of him. It is wonderful to listen to gospel singers and be able to heard the Word of God being preached and for new converts that is so important. I was blessed then and I know that once I buy and receive the cd that I will be blessed once again. It was wonderful to go into the musicmatch and find that I can now received a cd in amazon.com for such a reasonable price. Thanks

    I don't have this album, but I know most of the songs that are on this CD. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with this project at all. It's along the same lines as many Praise and Worship projects out today. It's a little old school church mixed in with praise and worship. Many of these songs are 10+ years old, but they haven't lost their flavor in the least bit. To top it off, this is where you can hear Donnie from back in the day. Let me tell you, nothing has changed in the least bit. His voice is still the same and it's only gotten better. Of course, "Speak To My Heart" is a song that will stand the test of time. Many churches still sing that song. "I See a World" is a great song as well. Donnie Mcclurkin singing "Joyful, Joyful"? Lauren Hill who? Remember her rendition on Sister Act 2? Well, add the anointing to that and you get a wonderful worship song. "The Church Medley" will have you dancing and praising God fo sho. Believe that. This album just brings back alot of memories. For those of you new to the gospel realm, this is where you can hear some of Donnie's earliest work. Enjoy

    I this is one of my favorite cds. I love Speak To My Heart. Donnie snaps on that song. Including Amazing Grace,I have never heard anyone sing that song like that. Lanb of God PartII is so anointed. You can feel the presence of the Lord in that song. I See A World is very, very good. I didn't know that Donnie actually made that song. The first time I heard it was by John P. Kee. The song is not suppose to have a lead, but Donnie made a lead. You can hear him in the background giving the choir the words. Church Medley he tears up. He takes you to church. My friend and I noticed that every time Donnie speaks in tongues before the song he's gonna tear it up. I don't know which is better the London cd or the collection. I love the cd and I love Donnie!
