We Want More!.......2007-06-09
I heard Seawind in college circa 1978 at our "Spring Thing" formal diner at Ports o Call San Pedro CA (near Long Beach Cal, in LA County). This band from HI combined a fusion/modern jazz sound with a little rock n roll. They could really jam. The horn section could literally blow the doors off your car! The horn section also appeared on several Bryan Duncan's Sweet Comfort Band lps. If you have not heard their lead singer,Pauline Wilson, you have been deprived of hearing one of the great, dynamic female vocalists.
At the Spring Thing, Seawind literally had us dancing in our seats. Generally speaking, I do not dance, but how could I not dance?
Back in the 70s and early 80s, Seawind toured with and was some jazz greats including Chuck Mangione. They had a couple of tunes that charted, but no real monster hits. Too bad they did not make a bigger splash and put out a ton of material.
My big rergret is that they only put out roughly 4.5 lps. This disc contains 5 tracs off their last, unreleased lp plus some off their earlier 70s lps. (before Seawind and Light the Light). So, if you buy Seawind, Light the Light, and this disc you will just about have everything. This is a great alternative considering how expensive those two early discs are. I have Light the Light on vinyl and I popped for the Japanese import cds (Light the Light and Seawind). The anaolog ported over to digital is very well done on these discs.
If you have heard the Seawind disc or Light the Light, you will not be disappointed in this disc, not at all! Often when bands break up, they throw together bits and pieces and try to get one more out on their good names, though the quality often disappoints. This disc, like Seawind and Light the Light, will rock your house. The production qualities, the playing, the lyrics, the vocals, etc. etc. are just wonderful.
From info at their website, they are supposedly putting together a reunion disc with new material and they had a reunion concert circa Dec 2005. I have checked back at Amazon every once in a while, all to my disappointment, looking for this disc.
All of their albums ARE available!.......2004-02-10
Just as an update on Seawind, all of their albums--except for "Remember"--are currently in print. Two are available on Amazon and the other two are available via the group's new web site: www.seawindjazz.com. I talked with their manager a few months ago and he said that the two albums on the web site were earlier available in Japan, but they were not legal albums. A fifth album--the classic (and one of my favorites) "Somebody Loves You," listed under Bob and Pauline Wilson but includes all of the Seawind backing them up, is also available on CD in Japan (it is on the Amazon Japan site, I think). Pauline's new albums are both on the U.S.A. Amazon. There is talk about a reunion in the near future and a possible new album (see the web site). I suspect sales of their web site albums may be an indicator of how much demand there is for their music and thus may influence the likelihood of a new album, but that is probably true of sales of albums listed on Amazon as well.
One last comment--the "Remember" album has several songs not available on their other albums.
Seawind's Legacy.......2002-07-31
I would love to see all of their records released on CD. I especially love the Light the Light album with "Free" and "Follow Your Road".
Pauline was not the only great musician to come from Seawind. The legendary Jerry Hey and his horn section has been heard on countless artists work for decades as well as Larry Williams who did many great recordings with GRP and Dave Grusin. And you can't forget the composer of their great music, Bob Wilson.
This music changed my musical life and influenced many others.

Lets Clearify Which Seawind Albums are Which.......2001-01-13
After reading the reviews in this sections, there seems to be an impression that the material on this Remembering album is later stuff. It is actually the FIRST two albums that had been originally released on CTI Records entitled Seawind and Window of a Child, PLUS some unreleased material that had been recorded for a THIRD album on A & M. Yes Follow Your Road was a minor hit for the group but it was actually on their THIRD release, the first on A & M Records. That is the one with the tropical cover with the white border. If you buy this album plus the two originally released on A & M you have it all.....with one exception. Back in the 70's Seawind, then known as OX released a single to use as a way of getting jobs when they were working in Honolulu. I wish I still had my copies. Those fans of Pauline Wilson can occasionally find her on albums by, Yutaka, George Benson and Island Style Band. She was also featured on the new Michael Paulo Christmas album that was released this year on Noteworthy.

Light the Light.......2005-06-04
For a couple decades now (and counting...) the wonderful music from this compilation surfaces up thru the clatter in my mind. Oh, how I've missed hearing it ! My album got scratched -- and worse, lost -- so I was *thrilled* to see it available on CD. It still has its luster, even with all the great bands and tunes that have hit the scene since its release. It's an inimitable sound that brings endless delight.
Truly a Classic.......2004-02-16
Seawind was a big hit when I was in early teens, my brothers and sisters (and everyone else) were listening to it all the time. Paulinw Wilson was very young as eveidenced by her singing style. Follow Your Road was a great cut and although Pauline did a re-make on her solo album, i still find the original much better. I know this is quite expensive for a CD with a few songs, but SeaWind was a great Band, Pauline was a great Singer. If you can for out for a few dollars, get this album along with the other SeaWind albums... especially if you are a Jazz Fusion Lover. I would say that SeaWind's era had the best Jazz Fusion musc... its Golden Age.
Its great Amazon sells CDs like those of SeaWind.
Another classic.......2004-02-10
This is a classic re-release of Seawind's work that was originally on the A&M label. They were once well known among jazz fans across the country, but the band broke up and fell into obscurity. Pauline has done a couple of solo albums in the last few years, Bob has done quite a bit of production work for Christian artists, and at least one of the other band members is in church ministry. There is a possibility of a reunion and new album (see my comments on the "Remember" album).
Just as a "side" note: This album and the other Japan import listed by Amazon have the name of the group misspelled on the spine, at least in the first printing. Hats off to Amazon for making this available on their U.S. site--I had to buy my copy on their Japan site!

I guess it pays off knowing one of the members of the Seawind horn section. These albums are re-released ("Seawind" (the 1st album) and "Window Of A Child"), and are being directly sold on Seawind's websight (seawindjazz.com). Both of the albums should be in any jazz, or contemporary christian music library.
The Second Classic Album of Seawind.......2001-01-13
This was the follow up to the first CTI release, Seawind with the original group. This material along with the first album and some unreleased material is available in the US on Remembering, which is a fantastic deal in comparison to these Japanese prices. Now we need somebody to release the third and forth albums that I have seen also as Japanese imports but were once available on A & M Records.
My Personal review on "Seawind".......2000-12-30
I owned 2 of Seawinds 8 tracks in the past, Window of a Child and I believe the other was just titled "Seawind". Great Jazz music and enjoyable vocals. I will be purchasing them in CD form once the holidays pass.

Customer Reviews:
An Interesting Seawind Album!..........2005-02-08
It was in 1978 or 1979 the first time that I heard this Seawind album in a jazz station, here down in Mexico city. They played the song "Everything needs love" (Fusion) and it was really exiting. I was impressed by the introduction, the changes, the lead guitar solo and everything in it; so I decided to buy the album, and for my surprise the tracks were a wonderfull, well instrumented, diverse kind of styles like Soul, Funky, Jazz cruzeiro (brazilian), Fusion and a sort of Disco music that mesmerized me 'cause the lovely female voice of... So I really recomend this recording. I don't have any other CD of Seawind but I really enjoy still the sound of it!...Good Luck!
SeaWind... Where Art Thou?.......2004-02-16
Seawind... hmmm, a great Jazz Band of the the Golden Era of Jazz Fusion.... Pauline Wilson was one of the best singers of her time. Cuts like The Two of Us and I Need Your Love are one of their bests songs ever (plus Follow Your Road from another album). I was very young when I was exposed to their music but I loved it then, I still love it now. Its great that people can still buy SeaWind albums through Amazon.
If you are looking for a great jazz album (with vocals)... get the albums of SeaWind.
A fine album.......2004-02-10
This is a re-release of a fine album by a group that was once fairly well known in jazz circles (ca 1980). While there is less spiritual content on this album than their others, it is well worth owning. A classic! See my update under the "Remember" album.

remains a classic best.......2005-03-28
Years have gone by since I've heard Seawind live, but the news of a possible new album and concerts in LA and Japan have left me excited. This particular collection remains some of the classic best Seawind, and put together in the days on vinyl when you really did appreciate the artistry of how tempo and themes were put together in an artistic order. I won't be flying to LA or Japan soon, but plan to add this CD to my collection, right here in the middle of the old USA. "Remember" is a great one but this has all the essential Seawind sounds in my opinion!

Seawind's first classic album.......2001-01-13
This is the first Seawind album that was released originally in the United States on CTI Records. You can also get the exact material on Remembering, which is a compilation of the entire first album, Window of a Child and some unreleased material that was to be the fifth album. The material is as good today as it was when it was released in the late 70's. Those who had the chance to enjoy Seawind live either originally in Honolulu or in Los Angeles at The Baked Potato will always have a copy of this nearby.
