Album Description

Liquid Mind IV: Unity, the fourth in Liquid Mind's elegant electronic series of slow relaxation music albums, takes the listener to a place of deep tranquility. This peaceful album is used by parents to help quiet hyperactive children, to assist themselves in going back to sleep in the middle of a difficult night, to relieve the stress of a busy day at a computer terminal, and for meditation. The absence of regular rhythm in the music allows a level of relaxation not achievable by more active music. Like the previous albums (Liquid Mind III: Balance, Slow World and Ambience Minimus), Liquid Mind IV: Unity is graceful, gentle, and healing. This music is designed to help you relax deeply, during meditation, rest, or in times of stress. Liquid Mind is the name used by Los Angeles composer Chuck Wild for his series of stress relief music albums.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great meditation music, interesting compositions.......2007-03-31

This is an excellent CD for meditation, massage therapy or relaxing. The tempo of the pieces are slow and all of them as a whole are gentle. At the same time, the music is not boring. The chord progressions are interesting and their are lots of unexpected chord substitutions. This creates a solid sense of forward movement, but without a rapid tempo. Often when other artists do this ultra slow music, the chord progressions don't create this same sense of movement and the harmonic changes are very predictable. This CD is heavy on the use of synthesizers, but it is all done tastefully. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars can't get enough.......2007-01-16

I can't get enough of Liquid Mind and each one is better than the last. It is the perfect music for study and for relaxation. Please keep them coming!

4 out of 5 stars Liquid Mind IV: Unity.......2006-08-20

I use this product for massage background music. All Liquid mind CD work well. After purchasing the entire series, I realized you really only need 1 or 2 of this style.

5 out of 5 stars Time for a Handless Massage.......2005-09-29

Just as the other Liguid Mind CD's, this sweeping movement of musical interplaying is designed for quiet, background sound use. The jacket correctly cautions that the music may be somewhat sedating, but after a day at work, what's wrong with that while relaxing at home? There is nothing to hum along with on this album, and, in fact, listeners may forget it's even playing, but sometimes one needs melody and harmony instead of the gooey or graphic lyrics in today's culture. This is more massage than message, and my body is grateful for all of these mind liquifiers.

5 out of 5 stars Don't operate heavy equipment while listening.......2002-05-22

The CD actually has a similar warning printed on the cover - and for good reason. I have found nothing better to help me to wind down from a stressful day and fall asleep. For the first 3 months, I never consciously heard more than about 10 minutes of the first track. I decided I would have start with alternate tracks if I was ever going to hear them.

3 out of 5 stars Cheryl Gunn - freshman effort.......2005-09-17

Fairly good album for fans of electronic New Age music. Style reminiscent of Vangelis, Yanni, Tomita, Christian Buehner, DaVol. Like all those artists, Gunn is stonger on electronic virtuosity than on composing talent; these songs would make great background themes for movies, video games, or TV shows, but their tendency to rely on one or two musical phrases to carry them through a four-or five-minute length tends to make them become soporific after a few choruses. It is a very rare talent that can pull off interesting listening using such limited musical vocabulary. (For an example of one that can, check out Eric Clapton/Michael Kamen's "Edge of Darkness" EP.) However, Cheryl Gunn is still young, and composing talent is something that usually grows over time. I expect interesting things from her in the future.

5 out of 5 stars Cheryl Gunn - Vanity of Venus.......2005-08-20

Outstanding. A brilliant song writer whose work and my appreciation came together at the same time. I do not think that anyone looking for New Age music will be disappointed.

Recorded in 1965, in the afterglow of avant-garde jazz's first significant wave, Unity proved what organist Larry Young's Blue Note debut, Into Somethin', foreshadowed. Young had been a straightforward protégé of Jimmy Smith prior to his Blue Note years, and he later went full-tilt into fusion, eventually joining Tony Williams's Lifetime for their rightly named debut, Emergency. But here Young dug into an exploratory groove that fed in part off the Hammond B-3 tradition and in part off the pulse-oriented rhythmic developments then occupying Cecil Taylor and others. That said, the tunes are all keeled on even tempos, with thoughtful, tight soloing from Joe Henderson and a young Woody Shaw. With drummer Elvin Jones powering the quartet, the music cruises along, but Young's free-flying organ is the most striking point, with its fall-apart deconstructions and its architecturally complex solos and melody statements. More than anything, this recording helped clarify how relevant the B-3 was for the new breed of jazzers. This Rudy Van Gelder remaster improves the sound, both brightening it and bolstering the low end. Also added are a couple of great photos and a new liner essay. --Andrew Bartlett

Album Description

The album that put Larry Young and Woody Shaw on the jazz map, this exciting and inventive session with Joe Henderson and Elvin Jones. Churning rhythms, challenging ground breaking compositions and brilliant solo work make this album a classic that exerted great, uncredited influence on the next generation of jazz artists. And one of the most requested Blue Note reissues!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Not Your Average Jazz Organ Quartet.......2007-01-04

Larry Young has been referred to as the "Coltrane of the B-3 organ". While I applaud those who appreciate his artistry, I believe that this description does not really do him justice. During the era that this recording was made, jazz organ on Blue Note was dominated by Jimmy Smith, whose success helped keep Blue Note afloat financially. Jimmy played in a blues and boppish style. Larry Young, on the other hand, had a totally different conception. This date from 1965, really showcased his advanced harmonic and melodic style. Additionally, the supporting cast was truly world class; Woody Shaw on trumpet (one of his first dates), Joe Henderson, and the legendary Elvin Jones. This was truly a date for the ages; it sounds just as fresh today as it did when released over 40 years ago! This recording should be in everyone's basic jazz library.

5 out of 5 stars Larry Young, Elvin Jones, Woody Shaw, and Joe Henderson........2005-05-20

"Unity" is an album that belongs in the post-Hardbop category. Larry Young was the first Organist to start to break away from the Jimmy Smith tradition. If you have experienced any of his first few sessions for the Prestige label, you will hear the undeniable Jimmy Smith influence in his playing. Jimmy Smith is the king of the Organ but Young took what Smith had done and refined it. He also added his own material to start a whole new way to look at an instrument that was handicapped by it's own size, but stood out with it's incredible sound. Joining the "Young" organ master is the masterful Elvin Jones with his complicated Rhythmic drumming, Elvin had just left the Coltrane group and, if you have heard any of his earlier sessions with the Coltrane group, you will start to hear his playing change in a way that he is more open to what the soloist is doing yet still keeping the beat and Enhancing the feeling. Larry played the Organ more like a piano so he constructs his solos on lines more than sticking to the more chordal improvisation that was so heavily used by Smith and others. Joe Henderson, a very talented Tenor Saxophonist is often considered to be incredibly original yet you will hear an almost direct relation between him and fellow sax men Junior Cook and Sonny Rollins. Hendersons solos are constructed of broken up phrases that are loud but meaningful statements. Woody Shaw is a very fine trumpeter who sounds like a combonation of Blue Mitchell and Freddie Hubbard. The players are in top form, the Compositions are played with intensity.

"Zoltan", the opening tune, was composed by Woody Shaw and the solo work done on this song alone is worth the price of the album. Young and Jones play a Duo on "Monks Dream" which is obviously by Thelonious Monk. "Moontrane", another Shaw original, was written for John Coltrane since he was one of Shaws, Youngs, and Hendersons biggest influences. The form is standard 32 bars but the harmonies and Chordal structure are much different than that of many standard jazz compositions. "If" is a Henderson tune resembling the blues but many of the chords are replaced with altered voicings that make it very unique sounding. The group plays a reworking of the standard "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise" and features excellent solos from all around. The closer, also by shaw, is a smoker and uses even more complex harmonies and chord patterns that "Moontrane" not to mention the odd number of 5o bars. If you want to hear extremely good jazz, this is one of the best examples.

5 out of 5 stars Unity: One of the Greatest Modern Jazz Albums.......2005-05-08

For fans of post-bop jazz, Larry Young's Unity is, quite simply, essential. Young has been called the Coltrane of the Hammond B-3 organ for his progressive, modal, accessible music. Like Miles' Kind of Blue, Coltrane's A Love Supreme and Horace Silver's Song For My Father, this album -- although unfairly unheralded -- is one of those magical musical occasions. Elvin Jones, Woody Shaw and Joe Henderson do some of their best work on this session. A classic.

5 out of 5 stars This is a must have!.......2004-11-23

Wow, what a great album. Who would have thought that Larry Young would provide one of the great jazz albums of the 60's. This album is the perfect blend of old and new. A lot of jazz purists scoffed at the organ as having a roller rinky, circus kind of sound, but this album proves how great the organ can be. Along with the outstanding playing of Woody Shaw on trumpet, Unity creates a unique vibe of its own. It's hard to deny the power of this album. Not overly uptempo or funky like some of the organ albums of the seventies and not entirely contained in the boundries of the traditional jazz of the fifties. This album is for any fan of jazz. You will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars A Perfect Album for so Many Reasons.......2004-06-25

This album is one of the most satisfying jazz albums I've ever bought. First off, it's a treat to hear the organ in such an up-front and wide-open setting; usually when we hear a B-3's sweet tones it is merely tapping out some cute seventh chords in the background of a blues jam. Larry Young is as unrestricted as any jazz musician can sound within the bounds of a chord progression here, playing lines as melodic and purposeful as Freddie Hubbard or as emotional and forceful as Joe Henderson, who also plays in top form on the date in question, within the same solo, all the while holding down a solid bass line with his left hand so masterfully that many have been led in ignorance to think there is a bass player on the recording (there isn't). Woody Shaw, often hailed as one of the most underrated soloists in post-bop, shows his true talent here as well, placing his unorthodox yet fluid phrases in all of the tunes from his own 60's avant-garde flavored "Moontrane" to the very standard standard, "Softly As in a Morning Sunrise," all with the same level of energy and sheer emotion that is par for the course on this fantastic album. So, the soloing is great. Really great.

Next order of business: Elvin Freaking Jones! Elvin passed away recently, and I'm sure many people are looking for his most characteristic and celebrated recordings to appreciate what a great talent he was and what an impact he had on jazz drumming and on jazz as a whole. Unity is as good a place to start as any. Though he was obviously most famous for his work in thepurpose-driven John Coltrane Quartet, he displayed hisunique polyrhythmically swinging style on a number of records as a sideman including this one and other perennials such as Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil and Sonny Rollins' Live at the Village Vanguard. It is a joy to hear him communicating with less familiar musicians with the same empathy as he did in the Coltrane quartet. His solos are fantastic as well, with his free, over-the-barline style which often displayed itself in open-ended solos turning up here inside the boundaries of extended form ("Monk's Dream") and in four bar phrases ("Zoltan"). Even within the restriction of specific solo lengths, Elvin plays with the same freedom and motive-oriented melodicism as always.

And last but not least: song selection. No Larry Young originals here, but three by Shaw and one by Henderson which are wonderful new (at the time) compositions that have become those type of "standards" that get played from time to time but aren't in the Real Book and don't exactly get called at wedding gigs. The very Monk-ish "Monk's Dream" is a Larry and Elvin duet here, a very good choice and a nice variation for the album's general flow. As said earlier, the standard "Softly..." is treated with the same improvisational attitude as the more modern tunes. Great selections.

Okay, if my bombastic ramblings communicate nothing else to you, please hear this last line: buy this album!

5 out of 5 stars A correction to even further validate this recording.......2007-01-30

The reviewer "El Lagarto" may want to note that the release date of John Coltrane's "Ascension," his first proper free jazz album and first major foray into the avant-garde, is June 28, 1965. "Spiritual Unity" precedes that album by approximately a year, and if I am not mistaken, Coltrane cited Ayler as an influence which helped vault him into his late period recordings.

This recording is a masterpiece and must have been a revelation at the time to all with open ears. For an even more complete and brilliant document of Ayler's influential sound and immense presence, check out the Complete Greenwich Village recordings on Impulse! That is all for now.

5 out of 5 stars Even an Olympic swimmer might not like the Ocean.......2006-07-29

This album skipped a few (hundred?) decades and took jazz straight to its logical conclusion. Fast forward several million years, far past our own epoch in this particular cosmic cycle, and you will hear this album playing as the universe dissipates back into its perfectly entropic state.

Don't get me wrong, this is not an album I listen to often. You wouldn't really play it in the car or at a party (unless it's a REALLY good party). This one takes some acclimation...like astronaut camp.

Yeah it's noisy and chaotic, but make no mistake: there is DEFINITELY music here. It's amazing that you can even hear it, let alone that someone actually wrote it, but it's here. Use with caution. This album will liberate your mind and incite a riot in your head, if you let it.

5 out of 5 stars As The Spirit Moves.......2006-07-22

Certain albums seemed destined to capture the public's imagination and win widespread, unequivocal acceptance almost instantaneously. One thinks, for example, of Tapestry by Carole King, Rumors from Fleetwood Mac, and the Johnny Cash landmark effort, At Folsom Prison.

Others, like Brilliant Corners (Thelonious Monk) and Sail Away (Randy Newman) required time, tireless advocacy on the part of convinced music critics, and risk-taking listeners before assuming the iconic status they enjoy today.

Spiritual Unity, which may be Albert Ayler's Guernica, falls into neither category. It was born in obscurity where it has lived ever since, like a prisoner whose slim hopes are sustained only by infrequent visits from family members.

Jazz listeners are a small subset of all music listeners, but jazz itself is a big tent covering various splinter groups. There are those who believe that the sun set on real jazz when Sidney Bechet died. The majority of jazz lovers consider the WWII big band years of Basie and Ellington to be the halcyon era. Hipsters and flipsters latched onto Bop, but many, including Cab Calloway, rejected Bird and Diz. Cab Calloway called Bop "Chinese music."

The herd of jazz enthusiasts was culled even further by the arrival of John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman and others who expressed a wanton disregard for melodic traditions. For many, Coltrane's squawks, squeals, and rapid fire scales were indistinguishable from underwater parachuting - an idea whose time hasn't come. However, Coltrane's disciples followed him and followed the horn players he influenced, like Roland Kirk. By now the herd, though fiercely loyal, was tiny. Then came Ayler.

Ayler blew with maniacal intensity, passion, delirious joy, and complete disrespect for the past. He played as though he'd never heard anyone else play, as if he'd discovered a horn in the desert and was single-handedly inventing music. Ayler did not play from his head or even his heart but directly from his soul. In jazz clubs around Manhattan cries of, "Check please," and, "I think I hear my mommy calling me," and, "Oops, this is my stop," rang out like chimes, followed soon thereafter by hasty retreats.

In a sense, Ayler took abstract jazz to its absolute breaking point; it really can't get much further out than this without sounding like jets warming up on a runway. His music defies evaluation, it even defies judgment. Almost everyone hates it and would pay to not have to hear it. Those who love it, as I do, respond to a spiritual awakening and freedom transcending the bars and dots on sheet music, pointing straight to the next world. For me, this is astonishing, glorious music, but then, I'm in a small herd.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2006-05-13

This album changed the way I hear music. Absolutely amazing. Every time I listen I hear something new.

5 out of 5 stars Ignore the one star review by Blaster Death.......2005-12-19

Blaster Death should stick to reviewing Kenny G albums if he can't hear music on this recording. Not only should Spiritual Unity be placed in the top 100 jazz albums of all time I would go as far as to place it in the top 10. Then again, if real art scares you perhaps you should stick with Kenny G.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Totally infectious.......2003-01-07

Shostakovich is mostly known for his serious works, his symphonies and string quartets, however he wrote a large number of film, incidental, and ballet music. This CD compiles many of his waltzes and some other pieces from these. While this is mainly what could be considered "light" music, many of the pieces have wonderful melodies and coloful orchestrations.

Some of my favorite waltzes include the one from Return of Maxim, the one from Golden Hills, and the one from The First Echelon (aka Waltz #2 from the 2nd Jazz Suite). Beyond the waltzes there are some other pieces, including the famous Polka from The Age of Gold and Folk Festival (Spanish Dance) from The Gadfly.

The only caveat is that some of the pieces don't reference their original source (rather they are listed as being from various ballet suites, when they in fact come from The Limpid Stream and other sources), but this is a very minor complaint. The performance and sound is wonderful, and unless you are one who can't stand this sort of compilation, it gets my highest recommendation.

5 out of 5 stars Surprisingingly enjoyable stuff.......1999-10-04

After years of my hearing and not thinking very much of Shastakovich's symphonies, this Delos delight came as a total surprise. Containing just under an hour of mostly waltzes mixed with some polkas, a galop, and even setting of "Tahiti Trot" (inspired by "Tea for Two" of all things), this concert gives us a rare chance to hear a good deal of music this composer wrote for films seldom if ever seen outside of Russia as well as some more familiar stuff from his ballets. Not one really great piece, nor not really boring one. Just a boxful of what Thomas Beecham used to call "Bonbons" from a very unexpected source. Lots of fun from Delos.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best Sounds Of Blackness to date.......2005-11-18

Unity is by far the best album the Sounds of Blackness has ever put out. Every track is inspirational. The title track is uplifting and it's message resonating.

3 out of 5 stars Not what I expected after waiting so long!.......2005-09-28

I don't actually own this album but after viewing the track listing, I noticed that several tracks are songs that appear on past Sounds of Blackness albums. For example, 'Try' is a song that was the first single from their 'Reconciliation album that was released in 2000. 'Children of God' and 'Brighter Day' are both from 2002's 'Soul Symphony' album (which, in my opinion, is their most personal and inspiring album). Although they've reunited with Ann Nesby on the first two tracks, which are new songs, it's not enough to make me buy the album. Considering that their last album with all new material was released three years ago, I would expect more than a partially new album from Sounds...hopefully this latest release is something to keep their fans happy while they finish a brand new album. Peace and God Bless.

3 out of 5 stars Disappointing latest release from a FIVE-STAR group.......2005-09-25

As one that has purchased every album by the 40-member ensemble (and rated each with no less than four stars), I am disappointed with the new album, for it features only seven original tracks ("Unity," "Heaven," "Put the Finger on Me," "They That Wait," "Over My Head," "I'm Movin'," and "Life").

The other five tracks were featured on the two of the group's earlier efforts. While artists occasionally "recycle" one or two cuts, Sounds of Blackness sets a precedent with having so many on an album that doesn't tout itself as a "greatest hits" package.

This marketing strategy may work for those unfamiliar with Sounds of Blackness's body of work but it's rather disheartening, and insulting, to those of us that have followed, and praised, the group since its emergence in 1991 with the debut album "The Evolution of Gospel".

Even former lead singer Ann Nesby's appearance on the first two cuts is no cause for celebration for this mediocre offering.

'Love the cover, though!

4 out of 5 stars Instant Classic........2004-02-05

Dietrick Haddon is one of the greatest Gospel songwriters of all-time and the "Chain Breaker" proves that communication with a powerful musical delivery is the best way to bring souls to Christ and your ministry. His style has a neo-soul, R&B, Hip-Hop and jazz flavor that is contagious and the message is truly anointing. Every song from "Totally Sold Out," "One Nation," the funky, Michael Jackson-esque "The Walking Dead," and to his duet with John P. Kee on "Double Team," you can tell he's targeting young people as well as paying homage to the old school with the old-fashioned praise & worship and inspirational techniques. On the live portion of the album, he brings back some of his previous songs like "Live The Life," "Fire," and "Don't Let Me Fall," mixed with some unreleased material in "Anybody Here." The only setback is the sound of the acoustics of the live portion. Still, this album is sincere and totally radical making it an instant classic for any believer to praise, worship and allow some chains to fall down in order to move into the next level in God.

5 out of 5 stars ANNOINTED!!.......2003-07-21

I have this CD and Lost and Found and I must say it's hard to say which one is my favorite. I love Chainbreaker!! Every song on this album is worth listening to. Each song has a message especially Live the Life--I can't wait to buy this CD too. "Chosen" will definitely get your head moving with a beat that is "off the hook" and the message in this song is so powerful. We Worship You will definitely take you into the Spirit. "Totally Sold Out" and "Fire" has a little P-Funk style that you will really enjoy. My 6-year old particularly likes "We're All God's Children" I love all of the songs on this album. But #'s 16 & 17 will make you start praising and shouting GLORY!! Deitrick Did It Again! I hope he will be around for a long time, but with an annointing like he has, I doubt if he will ever fade away. Now I have to start a Deitrick Haddon collection. You will NOT be disappointed. You MUST get this album.

5 out of 5 stars NYHC at it's best.......2002-12-03

This mini-album captures the true the spirit of New York Hardcore; hence the title probably ^_^. I love NYHC and especially Madball, so I picked up this record, having read somewhere that Freddy featured on one of the songs. I listened to it. Thought. Could this be...? Listened to it again. Thought. Yes, it really is... ONE OF THE GREATEST NYHC ALBUMS OF ALL TIME! It may be only fifteen minutes or so long, the music is powerful and the way it should be (hardcore!), the vocals are [...] amazing, and well, the lyrics are...er...kinda cheesy actually. Unity, pride, I've heard it all before but I don't really bother with it. As long as it's sung with belief, which is totally the case here. Five stars for this baby.

5 out of 5 stars Best F U < l < I N' HARCORE ALBUM OUT THERE!.......2000-05-09

25 Ta Life is one of the BEST HARDCORE groups out there, they represent the true NYHC scene thay will be remember even after they are gone. This album has a very good HARDCORE sound to it, it has great vocals and they are a very agressive fast playing HARCORE band, NYHC!

5 out of 5 stars 25 ta Life Kick total @$$.......1999-05-22

25 ta Life are a great eastcoast hardcore sXe band. Rick has a very unique style of vocals that are very appealing. Loyal to tha Grave is a great song in which Freddy Madball and Lord Ezec kick in with the vocals along with Rick to create a great combination. This is a must buy for all you sXe's out there.

5 out of 5 stars Great Freakin Album from NYHC veterans.......1999-05-10

5 out of 5 stars Quino !.......2006-07-03

This is one of those very rare instances when you'll enjoy every cut on the album. Quino is one of those once in a generation artist. I've had this for years and it is still a refreshing escape.

5 out of 5 stars BIG MOUNTAIN "UNITY".......2003-10-22

THIS ALBUM HAS SOME OF MY MOST FAVORIT SONGS OF ALL TIMES, SUCH AS, "BIG MOUNTAIN", "UPFUL AND RIGHT" AND "FRUITFUL DAYS".
IT ALSO HAS THE BIG HIT "BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY".

5 out of 5 stars superb.......2001-05-29

Even though i haven't gotten the new album yet this old one is one of my best. They haven't been in the spotlight properly since 1994(when they released Baby, I love your way-7) one of their most successful singles in the uk(No 2) but they have not released anything here for a while. Enough about that now about the album its funky, catchy and perfect for the sunny weather to dance too. Perfect reggae music at its best. so even though its old BUY IT!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Baby, I Love This Album.......2001-01-06

First of all, I need to say that I've never been a big fan of reggae music -- it just doesn't jive with my scandinavian genetics. I bought this album for the infectiously catchy remake of "Baby, I Love Your Way" and for a couple of years, that was the only track that received any attention in my CD player. Eventually I begrudgingly decided to give a couple of other cuts a chance and discovered I'd had a fabulous CD sitting right under my nose. Catchy hooks, endearing vocal stylings, deep instrumentation (great variety, kickin' horn section!), and perfect production allow this album to cover a wide array of emotional and thematic ground, sure to appeal to many a varied musical pallate.

There are some straight-forward reggae tunes, but most tracks on "Unity" play more like adult contemporary radio standards built on a reggae foundation. "I Would Find A Way" is a bouncy and unashamedly optimistic slice of sunshine. "Tengo Ganas" is (imagine this) a smooth mix of R&B-latino-carribbean music. Both "Upful & Right" and "Young Revolutionaries" are intimate songs one might expect to hear under moonlight on a front porch in Jamaica.

Give this album a try, and I'm confident you won't be disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars Anthony Gomes - One To Keep An Eye On.......2007-04-20

Gomes is a young blues guitarist / vocalist who I caught in concert a while back. I was impressed enough to pick up this album from 2002. I liked his live show better than the album, but there is no doubt this guy is a huge talent that can play the hell out of a guitar. His music is pretty typical blues, and his voice is gruff low. His voice grows on you after a while, but I can see where some people might not like it. On this album Gomes plays a variety of blues styles and manages to pull off some great solos along the way. He has a bit of funk and soul to his creations and definitely seems to have some heavy rock influence as well. When Gomes first started out (I think his first album came out in 2000), he was marketed as Christian blues. There is still an element of gospel to some of this material, but he seems to have moved into a more mainstream direction. On stage this guy is a definite entertainer. Gomes is young and full of potential. If you are into blues he is one to keep an eye on.

5 out of 5 stars The Gospel according to Anthony.......2007-01-20

Here's the deal...I was NOT a big blues fan before encountering Anthony Gomes...Liked Stevie Ray, etc, but didn't know a lot about it at all...I heard Anthony live in Nashville in 2001 and fell in love....with his music and his message. I can always find a song to play for any mood I'm in...uplifting, heart-wrenching, ticked-off, or just needing a good laugh. It's all there with Anthony's music and this is one of his best albums, in my opinion.

Worth every penny...if you buy it, I encourage you to play it for a friend.

"I believe that music can change the world. It's a powerful soul sonic force." ~Anthony Gomes

5 out of 5 stars You gotta love AG.......2006-10-27

AG has such a positive message wrapped up in some KING-HELL rocking blues! This album rocks, but doesn't do justice to him live. If you get the chance, do yourself a huge favor and see Anthony Gomes. I guarantee it will take at least 2 weeks to wipe the smile from your face.

5 out of 5 stars New Link To Old Blues - Ain't No Better Out There Now.......2006-05-19

Anthony can play the guitar beyond the best of them. I saw him a long time ago in a Nashville bar and this drunk guy kept harrassing him to play Stevie Ray, and finally Anthony put his guitar on wireless and ran up to the second balcony, placed his foot up on the drunk guy's table and commenced to play Stevie better than Stevie -- and that is a fact. The whole bar fell all about the place with amazement. I was then a believer. Since then, Anthony keeps hooking up with better and better musicians, and his Unity album has great blues and lyrics -- not everybody can handle his voice, but like the blues, it grows on you and soothes you when you are down. If you think you are so knowledgeable about the blues, Anthony had better be in your new blues collection. But as Anthony would tell you, if life was easy, what would we learn?

3 out of 5 stars TALENTED, BUT A BLUESMAN??.......2005-11-17

i actually went to high school with anthony in the Toronto area. He's a super talented musician no doubt. But knowing that as a teen , Anthony was absolutely mad for bands like Iron Maiden and George Lynch of Dokken. Never got the impression he was into blues at all. Not to bust the kid, But i consider him probably just a super talent as opposed to a real bluesman. Rock on Anth
