Wow Gospel 2002
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The fifth in the WOW Gospel series, WOW Gospel 2002 captures the sounds and soul of the genre's most popular artists in one handy two-disc compilation. In doing so, it also documents how blurred the lines are becoming between classic gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and urban soul. Traditionalists will certainly appreciate Hezekiah Walker's "The Battle" and Bishop T.D. Jakes's "When My Season Comes." But the pop appeal of Virtue's "Gotta Worship," Darwin Hobbs's "Deeper," and Kirk Franklin's multicultural mover "Unconditional" carry the potential of drawing a whole new generation into the fold. Other highlights include the driven "And Yet I'm Still Saved" by Donald Lawrence, the hot horns of Lamar Campbell on "When I Think About You," and the masterful Fred Hammond on "You Are the Living Word." --Michael Lyttle

We've come to expect excellence from the WOW releases, which annually define the state of Christian music in the Word Entertainment world. WOW 2002 proclaims that all is well in the state and backs up the assertion with some 30 tracks. The red disc contains mostly hits tracks, while the gold disc features more adult contemporary numbers. It's nice to see Joy Williams's wonderful "Serious" single included on the red disc, as well as Nicole C. Mullen's underrated "Witness." One of the year's best singles, "All You Got" from Tait, also anchors the red disc. The gold disc's highlights include "This Day" by Steven Curtis Chapman, "We Delight" by Caedmon's Call, and Bebo Norman's "Cover Me." It's really hard to go wrong here, and if you're trying to show a skeptic that Jesus freaks can make mighty "joyful noise," this is the CD to share with them. --Michael Lyttle

One of the best of the WOW Series........2003-11-04
Contemporary Christian music involves such a varied range of styles and mood that to offer a fair and enjoyable sampling is a tough task. In the past, the songs released on WOW anthologies have been conservative at best, profiling mostly the mainstream pop samples of the industry's top artists. With WOW 2002 (and its amazing 2001 predecessor -- which is why my review of this and 2001's issue are pretty similar), listeners who prefer their music a little louder and more energetic are, at last, given attention! Like 2001's sampling, the heavier tunes are mostly centered within one disc, whereas the more mainstream pop tunes on the other. This is an excellent idea, as people can have a "favorite" of the two discs based on their style. Overall the songs flow well together, and you're left with the sense that much care was taken to make this an overall enjoyable, and educational experience. It's a nice feeling to be able to praise God while at the same time slapping your hands on the steering wheel!
Decent.......2003-09-05
This album is decent. i would rather listen to 2003 of Wow, since there is way more music. This is a beginning set into the world, yet there is much rock music to be notice.
Not Wow, but Oh My Gosh 2002!.......2003-06-15
This was the first Christian CD I've ever got, and I immediately fell in love with it. It's how I came to learn about Christian artists and groups. I loved the track by Zoegirl, Elms, and Jennifer Knapp. I could listen to the whole thing for hours and not get tired of it. About 15 times better than Wow 1996 and diverse like nothing else. DEFINITELY a recommendation.
Good for alternative Christain.......2003-03-09
this is a great cd but the songs just don't fit with me. I like more worship songs like "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble" and songs like that. Im not into the whole christian pop and alternative. Like I said it still has some pretty good songs you may like. If your an alternative Christain fan like "Newsboys" get this but if you like more worship I recommend the cd "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever," or "Wow Worship."
The Best of the Best.......2003-01-10
I used to live in a town without a contemporary Christian music station. So, since 1996, I've relied on the WoW series to find the best Christian music for me... and it's never let me down. 2002 is a great compliation of the newest, hottest Christian songs. If you're a big fan or new to the genre, pick up Wow 2002. You won't be disappointed.

WOW Gospel 2002.......2007-02-25
What an INSPIRATIONAL CD. However, if you are a traditional gospel song person that is more into listening and not dancing while praising the Lord...disk two is more for you. But the set is great. I listen to the first CD while I run, jog...anything active. It helps me take my mind off of the exercising. I cannot run without it.
I would also recommend this CD to anyone who is starting their gospel music collection. It was the first one I bought and I listen to it daily.
A wonderful collection of contemporary Gospel.......2007-01-24
Seeing some of the responses, I guess that certain folks dont care for Jazzed up Gospel,(a little worldly is it????)well, I won't Judge here, just that taste is in the heart of the individual. That said, I think this cd was one of the best Gospel cd's cut yet by various artist. Mind you I like them all, The people at WOW makes wonderful cds and it is hard to make a Gospel cd that is Horrible. I like this cd so much, i earnestly was looking for it on Amazon. (lost the original in a fire) so i will be buying this one again
PS: Listen to be inspired as well as entertained.
Wow...more like huh?.......2006-01-01
Well I normally get the wow gospel cds because they provide the best collection of gospel songs from various artists. While not comparing it to the other cds, this cd did have a different affect on me. I was shocked as I listened to the first cd because I had NEVER heard these songs on the radio or in church. While I listened with an open mind, none of the songs on the first cd caught my attention because the substance of the songs just seemed bland and drowned out by the music. And I was a little disappointed because I knew that some of these artists had and could do better.
However, the second cd did lift my spirits because I actually did recognize some of the songs and could familiarize myself with them. I tend to go towards the songs with a traditional style but the artist can still can incorporate a twist of contemporary and upbeat sounds.
Some of the best songs on disk 2 are "You are the living word" "I want to be ready" "You didnt have to" and "be right".
However, I will have to agree with other people and just download it if I could. I couldnt just buy a two disk collection just to listen to a few songs on one of the disk.
If you want a good collection of Gospel... DON'T BUY IT........2003-07-01
I have the entire collection of the WOW Gospel albums, and let me tell you, it is getting worse every time. This album was a complete desapointment, I really wish I did not buy it... I dont know who makes the songs selection, but this time they did not chose well. I decided not to buy the 2003 album either, a friend of mine told me it is just as bad as this one. C'mon, this is supossed to be THE BEST GOSPEL of the year??????
If you can download it, don't waste your money.......2003-03-04
I think the WOW gospel series is getting progressively worse. I bought this cd a year ago and I was shocked that some of the songs on the cd, weren't even from 2002! Some of these songs were already being sung in my church in 2001. And some of the tracks were absolutely un-listenable (Unconditional, Jesus Children). It seems to me that the producers of WOW gospel are trying to captalize on the success of the previous albums, and there's nothing wrong with that. But just don't put out a bunch of junk just for the almighty dollar. In the long run, they are disappointing the vast majority of gospel lovers. I used to listen to this series to give me some idea of what albums to go out and purchase, but most of the songs on this cd were actually from the previous year, so I already had alot of it. I think the mistake they are making is releasing it to early in the year. If it's supposed to be the best gospel of 2002, how can you release it in February 2002?!?!?!?!?!?!!? I don't think I'll waste my money on WOW 2003, I'll just download it....
