This Generation [Enhanced]
Editorial Reviews

Following a two-year studio hiatus, Sonicflood has returned with a release full of new material called This Generation and an anxious bunch of younger fans who feel like they've waited forever. The question now is was the wait worth it? Much like the band's 2003 Cry Holy release, you'll find a handful of compelling, dynamic tracks like "Everlasting," "Your Love Goes On Forever," and "Moment of Glory." Problem is that these pleasures are few and fare between. Sure, Rick Heil is surrounded by a new band culled from the likes of Matt Redman, LaRue, and Everlife. And while the new compadres provide a strong influence on the hard-edged title track as well as "Never Forget You," Sonicflood is still just Heil and a bunch of guys. Sonicflood's approach has gone from "worship songs" to "songs about worship." The anthem approach of the early days has been displaced by a smoother, more distilled sound driven by Heil's steady-state vocals. It's not that the music itself is bad or even disinteresting, but you would be hard pressed to find many tracks bound to be done by worship teams across the globe. --Michael Lyttle

Album Description
A treasure of Jewish lullabies sung in their original Yiddish, Hebrew and Ladino make up this memorable collection. Tanja Solnik's exquisitely delicate interpretations are perfectly accompanied by piano, guitar, and balalaika. This album was honored as a Notable Children's Recording by The American Library Association.
Customer Reviews:
Delightful, soothing, inspiring.......2003-01-25
This collection of lullabies from the Jewish tradition defies the usual standards and soars above your expectations; every song is a delight to hear. The bright instrumentals employed are minimal and exciting; the vocals, pure and gorgeous. Do not be fooled by the word "lullabies" - I highly recommend this album for adult and baby alike.
Timeless, lovely, and sleep-inducing!.......2000-04-14
I found this album soon after my daughter was born. I was looking for a good recording of Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen, and listened to clips from several different cd's. As soon as I heard this rendition, I knew I could stop looking. These are beautifully unaffected presentations of classic songs. They neither dress up nor dumb down the material. Rather, the melodies and warm, smooth voice take center stage. Adults can take pleasure in this cd even after repeated plays, and my baby was soothed every time!

Pleasantly Surprised!.......2007-03-19
I was first introduced to SONIC FLOOd a few years back with the classic 1st release that included Jeff Deyo, among others. I purchased not only the "Flood's" CD, but also two solo efforts by Deyo and decided to leave both bands alone after discovering that both Deyo and Flood contained only had a few songs that really appealed to me. I then heard Sonic's modern song, "Your love goes on Forever" on a compilation CD and decided that these guys were worth another shot. I picked up Cry Holy and Resonate from a local used CD store and nearly threw both into the garbage! I liked the 1st two on Cry Holy (Cry Holy and Shelter), but could not get away from the serious nasal sound of Rick Heil's voice for some time. After more exposure and becoming slightly de-sensitized to the nasal cavity "resonating" sound of Heil's mouth, I discovered that I was quite taken in by the music. Following this, I turned back to Resonate for one last shot before relegating it into the cobweb pile and also discovered quite a few good songs on this compilation as well. Finally tracking down "This Generation" through Amazon, I was blown away by the vast improvement of Heil's voice (is he working with a teacher???) and love every song on this CD. I do not agree with the writer of another review on this particular work and feel strongly that Rick's voice adds a distinct quality to the Flood's latest endeavor and gives them a unique sound. Though I liked Sonic Flood's 1st album for a few songs, dare I say that in my opinion, "This Generation" blows the original flood out of the water! Way to go Rick and crew.
Sonicflood back again!.......2005-07-15
"This Generation" from Sonicflood follows the same trail from the previous releases, "Sonicflood" and "Resonate"; "Sonicpraise" was different, the songs were traditional praise and worship songs(I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever), (Did You Hear The Mountains Tremble), (Lord I Lift Your Name On High), yet played by their style, and the cd was recorded from a concert from Dublin, so you get the feeling of the crowd roaring in the background.
This album introduces us to new materials, very good songs, in which some are worship songs. Personally I enjoy "Resonate" more, minus the one star, but this album is great also. Hear are my ratings:
1)This Generation - first single, rock style (4/5)
2)All I've Failed To Be - (4/5)
3)You Are - (4/5)
4)Everlasting - slow worship song (5/5)
5)More Than Anything - (4/5)
6)Prodigal - (4/5)
7)Your Love Goes On Forever - uptempo cathy lyrics (5/5)
8)Never Forget You - (4/5)
9)Moment Of Glory - slow song (5/5)
10)God Is Here - (4/5)
SONICFLOOD is back...........2005-05-21
I was first introduced to SONICFLOOD while driving in the country a few years back and the song Resonate came on the radio. I've been a fan ever since. I am critical of what is known as the CCM genre because I think that many of the artists have put good Christian music into a kind of self-imposed musical ghetto. But, with bands like SONICFLOOD we have seen the message get out to the worst of us wretches. Their new CD THIS GENERATION is an enjoyable listen. Rick Heil has a unique singing voice that is complemented by a great band. I like the title track This Generation, but for me this CD shines with tunes like More Than Anything and Your Love Goes On Forever. On those two cuts the band really comes together as a unit. If half star ratings could be given this one is a 4 1/2. I would like to see the band move out of their comfort zone, as at times the theme while worthy and noble, gets a bit redundant. This one is a buy.
Helped turn a struggling believer into a full believer!.......2005-04-20
I love bands like Creed and Alterbridge. They are bands which had or has a message. Casting Crowns and Jeremy Camp are also very good in my opinion. I am a person who listened to Metallica and Guns 'N Roses. The music I listened to had a hard rock edge to it, but was filling my head with the wrong message.
I just went and bought SonicFlood's new CD, and I have to say, I am very, very, very impressed. I know everyone is talking about what Sonicflood was back then, but it is today, and today's youth need a voice. This CD is one of the best, that I have ever heard.
My favorite songs on the CD are, well, all of them. The two that really, really move me are Everlasting and Your Love Goes On Forever. All of the songs on the CD are A+++ Rated, so it is not only those 2. The CD is really well done, and if you love the bands of Collective Soul, Creed, and Alterbridge, this si the CD for you. I hope this SonicFlood keep their members together, and produce many more CD's, because this is slowly starting to turn my heart from a negative situation to a very positive situation.
Enjoy the Sonicflood of the past, but we are no in the past anymore, look forward to the new SonicFlood. They are a very special group, and I can't say enough positive things about them.
The Lord's Love does Go On Forever!!!
Sonicflood - "This Generation".......2005-03-09
The pioneering worship band Sonicflood has returned with their latest disc "This Generation" - a new collection of modern worship songs that will without a doubt be making their way into church services in the near future.
As many already know, the original Sonicflood has not existed since 2000 when the band initially split up and late-comer Rick Heil decided to carry on with its namesake. The band is now currently on its third incarnation with Heil still at the helm.
"This Generation" was actually recorded while the band was still in transistion of band members. Because of this, the album is essentially a Rick Heil solo album with various musicians playing on the tracks. Original Sonicflood drummer Aaron Blanton returns as a guest playing on most of the album (this marks the first time an original member of the band has played on a Sonicflood album in nearly five years).
Musicially, the album displays a harder edge and is more guitar-dominated than previous efforts. This is unfortuantely the only good side to the album. Lyrically, there is nothing on this album that hasn't been said before. This isn't neccesarily a bad thing however, the lyrics to most of these songs are typical fodder for the standard typical praise and worship song. Chances are, if your familiar the lyric content of anything released by Hillsong, you'll know what to expect here.
The other downside to the album is the vocals. While Rick Heil isn't neccesarily a bad singer, his thin vocals tend to be overpowered by the heaviness of the music. It's almost like having an adult contemporary singer do heavy metal. While listening to this album for the first time, the thought that instantly hit this reviewer was "Man, this could be a really great song if someone else were singing it". No offense to Rick, but he simply does not have the 'belting' quality that the music on this album requires. This is a huge weakness here.
Apart from these major flaws, "This Generation" does serve as a solid follow-up to "Cry Holy". It is a stronger album than its predecessor and will probably be appealing to most.
So in the end, what we have here is a Five-Star album, docked one star for the lyrics and another star for the vocals.

Customer Reviews:
A Masterpiece Sampler.......2001-08-12
This CD is a real classic among enthusiasts of Late 20th Century Music. It offers jazz, contemporary, and even minimalist genres of music. John Somebody started out as my favorite selection from this CD many years ago, as it makes a good example of spoken word turned into music. In addition, the Philip Glass selections make a wonderful introduction to his music. I could go on and on about all of the music on this Sampler, as all of it is excellent.
I highly recommend this CD to anyone who is either an enthusiast of late 20th century music or anyone who is curious. My disclaimer, however, comes in that this is not for someone who is not open to new things. Some of the music on this CD can be like an acquired taste. In the meantime, enjoy!
Eclectic Feast.......2000-03-24
Every piece on this album is strikingly original. In fact, I have purchased 4 other albums from the artists on this CD just to hear more of what they have to offer! Should appeal to lovers of world music, jazz and classical.

amazing record.......2007-05-26
Daylight's For The Birds grew out of the New York band On!Air!Library. OAL was one of the best bands to come out of the NYC scene that included Interpol and Calla. I got to see the band play in New York in 2004. It was wonderful. They soon went on to support Interpol on their American tour that year. Soon after the band broke up. Main songwriter, Philip Wann, went on to form this new band with a member of The Boggs. After Claudia Deheza left the band, they found a regular singer. Songs like "Worlds Away" remind me of the great moments of the previous band. They were like an old band on the 4AD label. They take the music to a new level. This album is already one of my favorites. "For Now" reminds me of some of the early New Order tracks. Daylight's For The Birds is an astonishing record.

Product Description
FINELY WOVEN POP SONGS IN A JAZZ SETTING Sumitra, a singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, CA, has released her brand new album "Indian Girl". The CD contains 13 tracks of soulful pop and jazz with influences from Joni Mitchell to Rickie Lee Jones and Sade. Sumitra moved from Austria to Los Angeles 4 months ago. Produced by Alex Machacek, Indian Girl, a collection of original songs that Sumitra wrote in the last 5 years, was recorded in 2003/04 and released in Austria in June 2004. "The album presents a collection of finely woven pop songs in a jazz setting far beyond any clichés. Sumitras high voice is backed seamlessly by fine musicians," Christian Bakony of the Jazz Zeit Magazine writes. "I think that my music has a timeless quality and I hope it will always be that way. Just as when I perform, time stands still, in fact there is no element of time present," Sumitra says. "I have always placed an emphasis on music that is performable, playable, live. I have always wanted my music to be expressed, enhanced, brought to different levels by playing with and interacting with great musicians." "The vocal ability of Sumitra, as displayed in "Indian Girl", shines through this CD with a defining 'ease' as easily as it takes us on an intimate journey of life through lyrics which are articulate, stylized and most effectively lathered in conviction," independent reviewer Mari Alsatti writes.

Sumitra is great.......2006-03-02
This CD was awesome! I can not believe if I hadn't gone to the American Idol Underground Artist web site, I probably would've never heard of this woman... what a beautiful voice. This CD really just puts me in an awesome zone... I would so recommend this CD to EVERYONE who's into REAL music...not the studio artist, but, someone who can REALLY, REALLY sing... pick up this CD... it's so worth it. Great job, Sumitra, can't wait for another CD.
