Bleach
Editorial Reviews

Critics of the modern Christian rock sound should take heed of Bleach's new self-titled release. They'll be hard-pressed to find fault. Bleach is wonderfully surprising both in its complexity and accessibility. The Ramone-like choruses on "Heartbeat," "You Are Good," and "Once Again Here We Are" show the band knows a good melodic hook when it writes one. Yet for every power-pop gem, Bleach counters with "Sun Stands Still" and "Straight Shooter," hard-rockin' numbers that are deep and wide and allow the group to flex its musical muscle. For good measure, the band throws in the acoustic, pensive "What Will Your Anthem Be" and the praise-and-worship-oriented "All to You," firming up the fact that singer Dave Baysinger has a real rock & roll voice that can carry a lyric through loud and soft. After two inconsistent releases, the third time's the charm for Bleach. --Michael Lyttle

When it first appeared, Bleach seemed like a tuneful approximation of what grunge rock in the Northwest United States was supposed to sound like--gruff, enraged, sometimes tuneful, sometimes silly. Singer Kurt Cobain had the pipes to belt out such power trash as "Mr. Moustache" and the Shocking Blue's "Love Buzz," but considering the sheer volume of frustrated tuneage coming out of Seattle in 1989, it was easy to miss Bleach's subtler textures. In retrospect, "Negative Creep" and "About a Girl" are the obvious standouts that point toward the strum and bang attack that would catapult Nevermind to the top of the charts. But this is also a band without drummer Dave Grohl; his predecessor, Chad Channing (and also the Melvins' Dale Crover), while competent, is no Grohl. Producer Jack Endino gave this album the best sound $600 could buy. --Rob O'Connor
Album Description

Customer Reviews:
Kurt played all the guitar.......2007-06-15
One reviewer said that the playing was better here because Kurt only played rhythm, but Jason Everman joined the band after the album was recorded and only got his name in the credits because he paid for the recording.
That being said, this is a great album and the Nirvana album I listen to most. Every song is great, even the ones that aren't. I've been listening to Nirvana for years and this is the only record of theirs that I can listen to nonstop without getting tired of after awhile.
I miss Kurt Cobain........2007-04-14
I am a 20 year old black kid and no one would expect me to listen to Nirvana, but i've been listening to them since 92', the first song I ever heard was smells like teen spirit, i remember the son of the family my mother worked for gave me the nevermind cd and I was blown away, I was only five or six but I loved the hell out of Nirvana. Bleach was given to me as a cassette by the same person and this would be Nirvana's foundation, the best album they ever made, every song is listenable without skipping, unlike incesticide or in utero. If you are just getting into Nirvana start here this is a classic because it has that raw punk-metal sound, school has to be the greatest song ever. There are few rockers such as Kurt and Marilyn Manson, who have the most rugged and violent voices, this is a true talent, you can feel Kurt's voice not just hear it. His voice is the greatest in rock if you ask me, from sing-songy, to scream, to violent howl, he made the best rock songs ever, from his voice to his guitar playing (oh my god), to the whole melody of the song + lyrics=perfection. He is and was the greatest because he had fans of all races and im proof of that, even though i didnt live in a suburban area I was the only kid in the "ghetto" listening to this and I've been a fan since 6 years old. If you dont have unplugged you should be arrested and sentenced to life. R.I.P Kurt.
Bleach.......2007-04-12
Nirvana-Bleach *****
Nirvana's realt debut, yes there was a band before the over hyped Nevermind. Bleach is a phenomonal album, it's Nirvana at their most honest and pure, not to mention raw. This is their most true to punk album, really the heart and soul of what would become grunge. This along with the earliest albums by Soundgarden and Alice In Chains debut Facelift and the Mudhoney albums were the real start of grunge as a respectable genre.
Here on Bleach it is clearly not the classic lineup that made the band famous. Dave Growl is not on drums, Chad Channing is, and Kurt Cobain is not the only guitar player. No at the time the band also had Jason Everman to play lead which is why the guitar playing on this album is better then the rest of the other Nirvana albums because Kurt does not play lead here, just ryhthm like is is good at. While this album much like the lineup are not that famous it is truly a classic and gave us some of the most memorable songs of the bands short lived career.
'Blew' 'About A Girl' 'Negative Creep' Mr. Moustache' and 'Downer' are all NIrvana classics. 'Negative Creep' actually inspired Slash to form Velvet Revolver. 'About A Girl' has really become a radio staple since Cobains death, and has really just become an all around rock n' roll classic. lesser famous songs like 'Paper Cut' 'Big Cheese' and 'Love Buzz' are also great songs, actually some of the best on the album.
Kurts vocals are very raw here and much more personal. On 'School' you can here he is really singing about something he is passioned about. Because the production on the album is horrible compared to Nevermind and In Utero the band sounds more authentic and personal. This album is by far the best Nirvana album. All of the bands albums, this, Nevermind, In Utero, and even the rarities Incesticide all do not contain one bad song, but this album has the best songs. This was when Cobain wasnt whigging out about the pressures of fame or what ever his personal crisis, and he wasnt totally currupt on drugs so his mind was under control of what ever he was on at a given time. This is the most true to blue album of what Nirvana really was, even Cobain said they completly changed and sold out after this album. So if you want a real Nirvana album, and a real poetic experince from Cobain, then this is the way to go.
So much heavier than expected... 18 years later!.......2007-01-25
18 Years! This came out in '89! Back when I first bought this on cassette, probably about a month or so after buying "Nevermind", I remember thinking.... "ahhhh, a couple songs are okay". It definitely did not appeal to me. This is not the super-crisp punchy production of Butch Vig. These aren't the pop infused songs that would grace their major label debut. This is Cobain trying to latch on to a sound that his heroes (Melvins being a clear choice) were producing, while also trying to be differnt from that. You can hear a pop sense in there... sometimes you just gotta dig for it. Kurt never hid his influences... the whole band never did... they quite vocally spoke about who inspired them and who they stole from. The great thing is, the bands they liked were actually worth noting in 90's/00's music progresion, unlike today where bands cite their friends as influences. Today this album resonates much stronger with me. The whole grunge "movement" really meant the world to me, and while a lot of meatheads would say the same, the music that came out between '90 and '95 really did shape my entire perspective of what could and couldn't be good. This album is damn good. I'm now a fan of most things "heavy". I can hear these sounds all over bands like High On Fire, Wolfmother, Sunn O))), Queens Of The Stone Age (who didn't need much more influence than themselves... Kyuss), even Black Metal bands like Craft, etc. Real heavy rockers with a penchant for creative flair. Those who want to kill with their music and inspire and make you FEEL and MOVE. This music really moves me today. That's not to say that "Bleach" created a sound, or originated it, but it sure as hell displays it. This album kills. Those who love heavy rock should more than appreciate this. Those who don't appreciate this, don't actually love hard n' heavy rock... you're posing, you're a liar and you should fess up.
Underground vs Radio Play.......2006-12-23
Nirvana was NOT the original band to pull grunge out of the popluations' pockets. Bleach was an underground compilation that was never publicized until later. Alice In Chains, though, hit the radio waves 11 months before Nirvana did, with "Facelift", which was released on August 28, 1990, while Nirvana's "Nevermind" was released on September 24, 1991. So who can honestly prove that Nirvana was the origin of grunge???

I wish I could give it 10 stars!.......2007-04-30
I bought Bleach the Best for the CD alone. The CD is wonderful!!!! My children and I love the songs and have a great time. In the car or doing dishes at home, this CD has music that gets you pumped to watch the series! The CD songs are the openings and closings for the show and it is great to hear them in their true form. The CD set I purchased from Amazon came with the DVD for Region 2 or for Japanese DVD players, pin-ups of the captians and Renji along with a booklet with the lyrics of the songs in Japanese. As far as I am concerned, it is worth every penny!
Best Anime CD in awhile.......2007-04-19
I love this CD! I watched the first 118 episodes of the show and grew to LOVE the theme songs. I wanted them so bad but Amazon has too high a price for this cd, so I bought it used from one of the sellers. I got the cd in perfect condition for half the listed price for a new one, and just wanted to comment on one of the previous feedbacks about the DVD issues.
First off, this listing is for the CD ONLY, at least for the used copies. There is another listing with the CD/DVD combo here on Amazon. So if you want the DVD as well, make sure to look at both listings carefully or you will pay the same price and only get half of the packege, unless you buy used.
But I do say that the price is worth it to fans of the show who are farther along then the english dubbed episodes, because many of the theme songs are from later episodes. Hope this helps anyone interested in the CD.
Greatest CD ever!.......2007-04-05
I love this CD so much. It's all I listen to right now. I play it in the car on the way to work and then put it into my computer and listen to it alla day at work. The artwork on the cover is very cool too. Well worth the price!
A Must Have For Bleach Fans.......2006-12-20
I managed to pick this up in Japan the day after it was released. What a great find! The CD contains MOST of the openers & closers to the Bleach Episodes that have been aired in Japan (they're well past Episode 100 there). The DVD (Region 2 DVD) has the accompanying "clean" opening and closing anime set to the music. Also included is a set of pin-ups and a book with Lyrics, Credits, and messages from Noriyuki Abe and Tite Kubo (all written in Japanese). A brief warning about Region 2 DVDs... they won't play in a regular DVD Player purchased in North America. You can play them on a computer's DVD-ROM reader, but be careful! You can only change the Region of a DVD-ROM reader 4 or 5 times before the setting becomes permanent.

14. Glaring Dream ~From the Anime TV Series Gravitation~ -Kotani Kinya
15. Life is Like a Boat ~From the Anime TV Series BLEACH~ -Rie fu
And there you have it. Many of the series haven't even been released in the US, and we're already getting opening and ending theme releases like this.
My personal favorite is Lost Heaven from L'Arc~en~ciel, because it says so much about Fullmetal Alchemist and its theme with the lyrics of "We say goodbye lost heaven, how we longed for heaven. We're letting go, of something we never had, time goes so fast, heaven is lost...". Second favorite would be Life is Like a Boat from Rie fu. It's got a really laidback feel to it, and questions worth and other things.
*Asterisk is a rap song, that's really good. I usually dislike rap, but I don't mind this one. It also may be interesting to note that it was the top selling Anime theme song single in 2005. BLEACH fans are really lucky with this CD, since there's 3 themes from BLEACH. D-tecnoLIFE, Life is Like a Boat, and *Asterisk.
Hey My Friend is a rock song that has a really laid back feel as well, and it really gives more meaning to the movie Kamikaze Girls and its plotline when it says things like "I lose my way without you", and "Hello my friend". Tommy heavenly6 has put together a great song with this one.
Dramatic is a pop song, with really high vocals from the vocalist of Judy and Mary. YUKI also sang Sobakasu(Freckles) in J-pop CD1, so if you picked that one up as well, you should recognize her vocals. Dramatic manages to be really peppy, without being annoying and screechy. Honey and Clover hasn't seen a US release yet either, so this is somewhat unusual, but it definately works for me.
Houkigumo is a softer song, with lots of melody and harmony. It's got a lot of melody and soft guitars. The vocalist is also really sweet sounding, and harmonious. Yakitate!! Japan's anime hasn't seen a US release, but the manga releases in fall of 2006.
Hit in the USA is another rock tune, with an odd kind of drive behind it. With lyrics all in English, and the theme of "I was made to hit in America!", it's very bouncy and repetitive.
Days is a good song, with a solid beat behind it. It's the opening to Eureka 7, which is getting a US release very soon. Days has good vocals as well, that support the beat and song.
Pureness is from the same artist that sang Kesenai Tsumi(Unerasable Sin), Kitade Nana. Pureness isn't as good as Kesenai Tsumi in my opinion, but it's still got a good guitar riff going, and she still sings well. BEET the Vandel Buster hasn't gotten an anime US release yet either.
Riraito(Rewrite) is the final ending theme to Fullmetal Alchemist. Asian Kung-Fu Generation just put out a new album(Solfa) recently, so you can check out more of their music domestically as well. Riraito is a really good rock song with good vocalists and lyrics. It's also the only opening theme to only be played when it was supposed to be played, and most of the time, in full. Ready Steady Go was only supposed to be played with Tobira no Mukou e, but adult swim had a business deal going on, so it got played all throughout the series of Fullmetal Alchemist until the final set of episodes.
And now for the actual packaging... The actual packaging itself is really chibi and cute. The booklet has lyrics, but no translations, so you'll have to search around online for those. It has a visual spread of some album covers, and the artists themselves. There's also a page and a half text piece outlining the stuff on the CD, and giving a talk about anime and J-pop in the US.
Altogether, it's a good deal for anime fans, and people who would rather buy domestically than importing everything. All of the artists included and the songs themselves are good solid songs that aren't your standard music fare.
Representative.......2005-11-02
In a land where fads come and go with lightning speed, where consumer electronics are always years ahead of us in the USA, and where even the language changes faster than most, it seems incongruous that the pop music doesn't change. I lived in Japan 15 years ago, thus surrounded by J-Pop music. This CD represents the latest of the genre, yet it doesn't sound any different from what J-Pop sounded like 15 years ago, with exceptions in a few songs of some noticeable new developments.
There is a reason J-Pop has never caught on in the USA and Europe. The music is terribly overproduced, which gives it a kind of show-tunes sound. Even the rock music has that annoying overproduced sound, nerding up what would otherwise be some killer rock music.
But J-Pop's not being known in the USA is in the process of changing, due to the popularity of manga and anime. With so many people now enjoying anime, the Japanese style of adult cartoons (mostly action and fantasy cartoons), and hearing the theme songs of these TV shows and movies, at least a subculture of Americans is developing a taste for this music. Hence the release of this album, a showcase of J-Pop tunes that are used in anime.
In J-Pop, I strongly prefer songs fronted by female vocals to that of the male vocals. This is true for me in American & European music, too, as most of my favorite groups have female lead singers (Viva Voce, Bon Voyage, Cocteau Twins, Curve, Evanescence, The Randies, The Go-Go's, etc.). But this is even more true for me in Japanese music; the male vocals have a certain tonal quality that I especially don't care for. Some people may find the high-pitched tone of the typical J-Pop female singer to be annoying, but I enjoy it.
The first three songs on this compilation didn't do much for me, but the fourth one I was immediately crazy about. I later looked at the cover and learned that it was Puffy Amiyumi. I had already heard of this duo and wanted music by them; now I've heard them for the first time and I definitely want some of their albums!
New influences in J-Pop are found in the track "Pride" by High and Mighty Color. This is primarily a typical female-led J-Pop overproduced pop tune, but interspersed in it is an intense rock section with some scream-rap (made unintelligible by sound alteration). "*~Asterisk~" by Orange Range has some rapping in it, something else I don't remember hearing in J-Pop 15 years ago. But aside from these two tracks, I don't really hear anything new in J-Pop. Amazing how it doesn't change.
I give this album 3 stars, which in my book is a good album that I would definitely recommend to others. This album is a good representation of J-Pop music. If you're an anime fan, you're likely to enjoy it. If you want to learn what Japanese pop music is like, this compilation is a good place to start.

Excellent RnR - blended with punk influence.......2004-03-07
I was very impressed with the way that this album came together combining rock & punk stylings to produce enjoyable, upbeat and fun music. There are no 5 star songs on this album, but there are 9 3 and 4 star songs.. in other words, its loaded. In that regard mthis album reminds me of Audio Adrenalines Underdog, not stylistically, but rather the fact that the album in full of good and very good songs, but no 5 star WOW songs and very few or no 1 or 2 star songs.
...an absolute blast to listen to........2003-03-03
At the beginning of the opening track, you hear a voice in the distance state 'This is for your enjoyment', and how right he is! With their first release, Bleach introduced me to Rock Pop at its finest, and is an absolute blast to listen to. With vocals at times reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins and heavy on the guitars, the band's freshman release is a winner.
From the guitars and distorted vocals on the opening track, you know you're in for a good time. Eleven keeps you going and sets a rapid pace for the album. Perfect Family shows the fun is in the lyrics as well as the sound, as we are introduced to Jerry and Sally and their mini-bus. Pretty much states a blueprint for my marriage, except for the part where Jerry loses his hair. Any red blooded guy can relate to Epidermis Girl, as the band belts out what we all try for in this Cosmo-girl age, to see past the Epidermis Girl to a deeper love.
Tea For Two asks a question we all ask, why can't we all just get along? 'An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, or a cup of tea for two'? I'll take the tea, thanks. Cold & Turning Blue shows a quality the band excels in, hard yet introspective and serious as we are presented with the predicament of Balloon Boy and Galactic Dust Girl. Probably my favorite song of the album, the vocals on Child of Sod really say Smashing Pumpkins all over. There are times when we all feel like a Child Of Sod, and man, it's times like those when it feels good to crank this one and bleed the ears and sooth the soul.
Crystals and Cash picks up the pace a bit as it makes you look at what's important. 'Have you ever thought just possibly that your ideals are a twisted philosophy?' Well, have you? Having an almost balled-esk sound, Wonderful is a great teen love song without sacrificing the edgy sound. Cannonball goes slow through the verse, but really belts it out in the chorus to 'let His love break down these walls like a cannonball'. Things lighten up again with Sugarcoated Ways, with almost lounge style backing guitars in the chorus. At a minute before the end of the track, a Pink Floyd-ish bridge ends the song nicely. The album is wrapped up with a bow with the title track, Space. I can't count the number of times I've thought the lyrics of the track, 'I don't want to be your priest, I just want to be your friend, I'm not here to laugh at you, or condemn.'.
Heavy guitars and vocals that set the band apart make this debut a great 'good time listen'. Having heard the band's later albums, Space captures a roughness that can only be captured once in a band's career. The album is harder, grungier almost than the later releases, and well worth the investment in a new set of speakers and the hearing aid upgrade.

I think that this is a really neat album! It's so great.......1999-06-10
I thought that this albumb was great~ It had everything that I was looking for in it. It's not too much you see such great artists. They are one of my favorite alternative christian bands. You definently should see them in concert. I want to be a butterfly is my fav. song! ha ha
Really great songs from a garage band!.......1999-04-14
the songs on this CD are very good. I think this CD is better than the new one "Static" because here you will find more heart-felt emotions, and the sound has a more personal, stripped down feel. I especially like the song "Perfect Family," it is one of my all-time favs!
Just a great rock and roll CD.......1999-01-07
If you like good old rock and roll with a message then this the CD to listen to. Epidermis Girl won the Dove Award for best Alternative Rock song of 1997. What a great group of guys.

worthwhile and fun .......2006-06-25
This is a Blondie, Debbie Harry, remix and rarities collection rolled in one. It was recorded in 1988 and released in 1989, im guessing as a stop-gap for Debbie's solo career. There are 7 Blondie songs and 6 of Debbie Harry's. Denis, Call Me, Rapture, The Tide Is High, In Love With Love, and Backfired are all heavily remixed, and sound very late-80's. The Jam Was Moving is also techincally remixed, but it just sounds as if certain parts were taken out, and others made longer. Rush Rush and Feel The Spin are from the soundtracks to Scarface and Krush Groove, both done solo by Debbie. Heart Of Glass, a "special disco mix", and Atomic are really just longer versions of the originals, not that they needed remixing in the first place. French Kissing in the USA is partly sung in French, while Sunday Girl is a full French-launguage version. With the exception of the really, really awful version of Denis and the bland discection of The Jam Was Moving, these remixs are shockingly pretty good. Call Me and Rapture are the best of these. The originally very dull In Love With Love sounds great and has benefited the most with its remix. Rush Rush is better than anything Debbie has done solo, and I think could have been a big hit had its airplay not been so limited. Although im not sure just who this collection was intended for or why it was made in the first place, it's a worthwhile compilation with only those two missteps.
Once more.......2005-01-17
Some songs just don't need to be remixed -- at least, not in a way that obscures the song itself. And that is the main flaw in "Once More Into the Bleach," a lackluster collection of remixes and Debbie Harry solo songs. Harry is good on her own, but the Blondie remixes miss more often than they hit.
Several of the songs are remixed Blondie hits, and more often than not they don't really add anything to the song: the overmixed "Denis (Dancin' Danny D Remix)," moderately enjoyable "Call Me (Ben Liebrand Remix)," and half-obscured soundmass of "The Tide Is High (Coldcut Remix)." There are some highlights, like an enchanting French version of "Sunday Girl," and the quirky "Backfired (Bruce Forest Remix)."
There are also a number of singles by Debbie Harry in her solo career, such as the slow-burning rocker "The Jam Was Moving," the poppy new-wave "Rush Rush," and the sexy pop tune "French Kissing in the USA." While Harry's solo career never hit the highs of Blondie, she still did an astounding job as a solo pop singer.
This is, first and foremost, a remix album. And people who don't like remix albums will probably only find a few worthwhile tracks on here, probably the ones in Harry's solo career. However, Blondie fans looking for this rare remix or that rare version may well find that this has it.
In many ways, the songs sound quite similar. Not just because of Harry's strong, vibrant vocals, but just the general sound of the music. Her solo songs do tend to a bit poppier and more mainstream, but they share the same new wave tinges with Blondie's best songs. "Rush Rush," as the first single released by Harry after Blondie's breakup, sounds the most like the famed band.
Most of the Blondie remixes are strictly for fans. But the odd good remix, plus Harry's solo tracks, makes this a moderately interesting listen.
Essential if you are a fan of Blondie.......2004-07-06
This is a pretty good collection. For the Disco Version of "Heart Of Glass", this album is well worth the money. But there are a lot of other songs on their that are great. The remixes of "Rapture" with the JFK sample, and the 80's new wave sound makes this remix quite fun. And it is great to dance to. I also like the remix of "Call Me". Although, I prefer the longer version which was on the "American Gigolo Soundtrack". It's still good. Then I also like "The Tide Is High", "Sunday Girl", "Denis", and "Atomic". This album rocks!

You're probably going to buy this to hear the all French version of "Sunday Girl." I did. Oh, some of the remixes are fun too. Who would of thought to do a dance mix of "Denis"? Oddly it works! Try to find the British version of this CD though for the Shep Pettibone remix of "Heart Of Glass". Hey, is that really a sample of JFK on the "Rapture" remix? It's oddly odd.

After a three-year hiatus, Nashville's propulsive pop-punk act Bleach return with a grittier, heavier sound for their positive anthems. Almost every one of the songs on Again, for the First Time sounds made for radio in the best sense, especially the stripped-down, super catchy "Fell Out" and the fuzzed-out "Baseline," with its shouted refrain of "Let's break out." Fans of Jimmy Eat World, the Newsboys , and Audio Adrenaline will find much to enjoy on this spirited release of honest, thick-glasses punk. A little more diversity would be nice, but as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, why fix it? --Mike McGonigal

The Most Important Album Of My Life.......2004-12-05
Again For the First Time is Bleach's masterpiece, one of the greatest albums in my collection. When I bought it for $5.99 at CD Warehouse, I had no idea what I was in for. One of the greatest half hours of rock ever recorded, this album saved my life. The lyrics helped me work through one of the worst times in my life. Even now, it is a comforting old friend, letting me know that everything is alright. When I lost my faith and proclaimed Agnosticism, the members of Bleach were some of the few Christians I'd listen to, besides my parents. Again For the First Time helped me see God again, so I consider it an honor to break this classic down song by song for you.
Intro (5/5): Quick, beautiful and sets the listener up for the greatness lying ahead.
Baseline (5/5): This is a concert favorite. I have several memories of riding in cars with friends and yelling the lyrics at the open road. A wonderful high energy song that draws you into the rest of the album. Definitely an anthem.
Celebrate (4.75/5): It slows things down for a second, but not too much. Very beautiful song. The lyrics match the title and my feelings towards these guys.
Broke In The Head (4/5): Not the best song on the album. It starts out slow but ends on a good note. This song is usually in the way of the next tune, which is a classic.
We Are Tomorrow (20/5): Greatest song on the album. The first few notes get me pumped up; the rest of the song throws me into euphoria. Nice basic drum beat. I was at a Bleach concert in Memphis talking to lead singer Davy before they went on. He said I should jump up onstage with them during "We Are Tomorrow." I take him up on the advice. I timed it perfectly to get up there when things go crazy. After singing with Davy, I ended up grabbing the mic stand and whipping the crowd in a frenzy. They mimiced my motions as I threw the stand up and down. Kids came up to ME after the show telling me how awesome I was onstage. One of the greatest moments of my life, hands down. So many memories behind this song. I love it!!!
Fell Out (5/5): This is a very catchy song. Very Weezer-esque, but much better than them. I think I hear a moog somewhere in there, and I like it. It's a rollicking good time.
Weak At The Knees (5/5): Another fist-pumping anthem. You can feel Davy's desperation as he clings to the lyrics and music of this song. By the end of it he's almost collapsing. At this point the album is starting to dramatically build. The song sets you up for the next one perfectly.
Found You Out (10/5): Another highlight of the album. I love the lyrics. "I'd wait a million years to feel / The way that I feel right now / I cant say that it's figured out / But everything will work out some how." You can hear the crowd's hearts aching as they yell it out in concerts. The breakdown halfway through is great, building powerful tension, ending with an incredible payoff. By the end of the song I am filled with joy. A modern classic.
Said A Lot (5/5): Another great song. The background vocals really compliment the music. This is one of the more creative songs on the album, with an occasional bleep and noise from a weird percussion instrument I can't quite identify.
Almost Too Late (5/5): This is a necessary song on the album. It picks up the pace, tearing through like a hurricane in Florida. Definitely the fastest song on here. The title is very appropriate, if you blink you miss the song. Ignoring it at first is almost too late, because it's gone. You can tell they have fun when they play this song, ending it with yelps and a pig call "Soooo-eee!"
Andy's Doin Time (5/5): One of the most intimate songs on the album. Davy sings about all of his friends and what's going on in their lives. You feel like you're in a big room and he's introducing you to his folks. You get a picture of so many lives; very personal. The music is emotional as well, playing the soundtrack to Davy's lament and optimism. Davy chants "We're moving on and on and on / We'll head out torwards the sun / Cause we're the lucky ones / Yea the lucky ones." The harmonizing in the end of the song is gorgeous, leading up to another highlight of the album.
Knocked Out (15/5): The mournful guitar, followed by the respectfully slow drums, set up for the powerful climax of the album. Davy lays everything on the line here, pouring out all of his anguish and hope in a fiery ball of heartfelt passion. By the time he is singing "I will sing at the top of my lungs / I will dance even if I'm the only one / And i hope that we'll never be apart / And I will sing and I hope it heals my heart / Yea I hope it heals my heart / How did I get here? / Save me from this," I'm not even on the planet anymore. I am caught up in the passion of the Holy Spirit. My soul is bare to the world, and I can take on the world. By the end of it, I am drained. In concert, they usually extend the song into cascading guitars and drums, while Davy kneels down, overcome by the thick emotions stirred up. It is one of the most powerful experiences I've been a part of, they should record their live version of this song for posterity.
Jenn's Song (5/5): A perfect ending to a perfect album. I'm so drained from "Knocked Out," that "Jenn's Song" is just what I'm looking for. A simple, brief emotional plea backed by a vulnerable acoustic guitar. Beautiful.
Well, I've enjoyed channeling how I feel about this album. Listening to it was a pleasure and I hope you find something in "Again For The First Time," like I did.
Peace be with you.

Good, except for the lettering.......2004-01-29
It's very catchy. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I think about bleach. Actually it's the second. The first thing that comes to mind is that their lettering for their name is just about exactly the same as the lettering blur uses. They even use a lowercase "b" on their name like blur. This probably isn't an issue with blur fans (except me) because most of them will never know who bleach is. I could rant about how not cool it is to use another band's (especially one that has been around for so long, such as blur) sort of signature visual. But visuals have little to do with music.
This can be very simple: This music is similar to a Good Charlotte meets Rooney type thing, but they maintain a semi-original edge. Nice work, good if you just want to feel happy.
Anthems........2003-11-28
Every song here, with the exception of the short, emotional "Jenn's Song" is a rocking, raise-your-fist-in-the-air anthem. The tour for this was an amazing one, with the excitement captive in the music exploding throughout the crowd. As for the music, this is punk. If you ever had a question of what it was, Bleach will clarify that for ya. From the infectious riff of "Found You Out" to the all-out slam of "Baseline" to the thoughtful, pondering "Said A Lot" and "Andy's Doin Time", this album will make you move. One of the best punk albums of the year.
ABSOLUTELY ROCKIN!.......2003-08-29
This album is probably the most listened to CD I own. I've been a huge fan of Bleach since the beginning of time, and I have to say that this is their best album to date! The songs will stick in your head all day, and you'll never get tired of hearing them. Bleach is one of the best bands I've ever seen live - they put on a great show! Check em out, and catch a show- you won't be disappointed with their blend of good rock-n-roll, a little rockabilly, and a little punk! AWESOME!
The Evolution Continues.......2003-02-28
Bleach has been apart of the Christian music scene for a while. They are the true veterans of this industry. When you look over their last CDs (all highly recommended) you see the slow evolution that has become a shining moment on Again, For the First Time. Their last self-titled CD carried a hint of what Bleach could do (and that's a 5 star album too) and this newest installment sees Bleach reach up higher with their perfect blend of giving praise to God and making excellent music without alienating a non-Christian listener. This is amazing music and from previous experience, it can only get better.

...Static shows off an older, more mature Bleach........2003-03-03
With the band's sophmore release, Static shows off an older, more mature Bleach. In two years, the band has refined their style to a more mainstream sound. The vocals are cleaner, but still have the distinct Bleach quality. The guys are a bit older, more experienced, and girlfriends thanked in the previous album cover are now thanked as wives (congrats, Dave!).
Each track on the album seems to be striving for radio hit status. While the album succeeds in this endeavor, with four of the songs reaching in the top ten singles list, I can't help but feel that the album is a transition, a work in progress as the band experiments with who they are and what they're out to do. I miss the dirtier sound of the band's previous release, Space, but the album still has a lot to offer.
The title track introduces the listener to the new sound, a fun, guitar driven hit about clinging to God like static. Having enjoyed much radio success, Super Good Feeling sums up the listening experience of the album while looking at a relationship with Christ. The balled Rundown Town shows the depth and width of the band in its story of one persevering to the end. Land Of The Lost picks the pace up again, in a poppy, pick-me-up about touching the strange and crazy people of the world. I think that's about all of us.
You get carried away in the short, hard and heavy guitar rock track about the whirlwind of sin in Hurricane. Things get poppy again in the electronics laden Warp Factor Five. The track Rock N Roll is just that, and is a good summation of the album. The CDs second balled, Code Of The Road, brings me back to my barefoot San Diego days in my '69 VW Karmann Ghia. I've worn out my repeat button as I wax nostalgic over the track, thinking about my many breakdowns along the side of the road, the many people who helped me out, and the many times I returned the favor. Any low budget touring band or youth group in the typical `church van' can also relate.
The beat stay up through the rest of the album with Lonestar, Drive, and Country Western Star and finishes with the introspective finish Waving Goodbye. All in all, an excellent offering for those looking for some great mainstream guitar pop.

This is a really cool album! Bleach rocks with songs like "Land of the Lost" "Rock and Roll" and "Static." "Super Good Feeling" has a great alternative, guitar-driven punch to it. The album is full of great tunes and the lyrics are right on. Rock and Roll for the Common Man...
