Jill Paquette

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
British Columbia's Jill Paquette's self-titled debut is as warm and inviting as it is refreshing, particularly when the young French Canadian singer-songwriter calls upon her Native American ancestry to spin up lyrical imagery that so aptly captures the intimacy between created and creator. And while acoustic guitar and piano weave Paquette’s musical tapestry, she is much more than your typical, cookie-cutter folkie. Paquette ratchets up the rock on such tracks as "Not The Only One" or "Forget," drawing comparisons to Sheryl Crow with their roots-rock sound. Paquette’s guitar prowess shines bright on "There to Here," as does her ear for the melodic chorus on "Lift My Eyes" and "So Close," both of which are reminiscent of Nichole Nordeman and Jennifer Knapp. Credit for this beautiful-sounding debut should also go to production group of Eldon Winter, Stephen J. Rendall, and Phil Madeira, who build the album around Paquette’s songwriting skills. --Michael Lyttle

5 out of 5 stars It Just Took One Listen To Jill To Make Her One Of My Favorite Female Vocalists.......2007-01-06

Let me give the Reader's Digest version of this review first:
THIS CD IS AWESOME!!! GET IT!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!!

For those who don't know what I think of this project, allow me to elaborate on it.

The style of this album is folk-pop. Jill Paquette has a beautiful voice, and it is well showcased in this project. The lyrics are uplifting as well. Additionally, there is a beautiful instrumental, "There To Here."

My favorite tracks are "Come To Me", "Not The Only One", the single "Lift My Eyes", "Forget", "Sometimes Yes, Sometimes No," "So Close", and "Free (Take My Life).

5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD!.......2006-08-17

I heard 3 or 4 of the songs on my local Christian radio station and loved them, but was stumped on the artist for months! This is her debut, and I eagerly anticipate her next work. The lyrics touch me deeply - she wrote or co-wrote every song, I believe - and she has such a beautiful, soul-stirring voice. The music is unique and refreshing, I absolutely love this CD! Praise God for the gift He has given this young lady to touch people through music and glorify our relationship with Him . . .

4 out of 5 stars Great Christian singer/songwriter.......2006-08-02

I listen to her album at work a lot and some days it really helps me 'keep on keeping on'. Jill Paquette's melodious voice carries me away from the grind of life and helps me remember why I am where I am and doing what I do. Come To Me is beautifully written from God's perspective speaking to his creation beckoning us to simply go to him and is without a doubt my favorite song on the album. There are a few that I like less, but I really do enjoy all of them! Well done Jill...Hope she puts out more fabulous music that contintues to encourage me to follow hard after the Lord!

5 out of 5 stars Refreshing to your soul.......2005-09-10

I love the way her songs could almost be about anyone. They speak to part of our hearts that no one knows about. She has such a gift to be able to put words to what we go through in our walks and every day life. It is refreshing to realize we are not alone on our lifes journeys. I have shared her CD with many people who just need to see we are not alone and the things we feel are quite real. A really great CD worth the money invested.

4 out of 5 stars Jill Paquette.......2005-08-02

Coffee house folkie type, well thought lyrics, nice guitar work, and not overproduced. Close to secular artists such as Dar Williams, and Catie Curtis. I discovered her on Studio B live, and it was her on the guitar and a guy playing the bongos, thought she sounded terrific.

5 out of 5 stars This album is incredible.......2004-07-19

This album rocks! It's a lot better than other worship albums I've listened to. This band takes traditional songs and puts a little more edge to it. As to what the other person wrote, I'm not sure what they expected... it's a worship CD, not a rock CD. I think this band does a great job of taking "boring songs" and making them more catchy to reach the youth. I'm 15 and a worship leader at my church, and I personally love this album... as do my friends. Worship music can be really uplifting and this CD just puts me in a really awesome mood every time I listen to it.

Look at the title: "X-Treme Worship: Worship On The Edge." Makes you think it's going to be something fresh and new, something daring, or at least, some rockin' out music. The album cover uses cool lettering and has a snowboarder; the artwork plus the graphics give the impression that this album is going to be some really cool stuff.

Unfortunately, the title and the packaging have nothing to do with the product. The music is not the least bit "on the edge" or "extreme." It's more like soccer mom suburban worship. It's so middle of the road I can imagine it only appealing to middle age mothers.

The music isn't BAD, it's just too middle-of-the-road for me. I mean, this is more adult contemporary than the music in our Sunday morning worship is. So if you like suburban soccer mom worship, a la Darlene Zschech, you might like this. But if you're looking for "worship on the edge," this ain't it.

August 20, 2004 update: I have now found an album that DOES live up to its title regarding extreme worship music. It's a compilation album from Devotion Music called "Worship Extreme." You can see my review of it here at Amazon.
