Pam & Dodi

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
With their eponymous debut album, Pamela Taylor and Audra Alexander, better known as Pam and Dodi, prove there's nothing profane about setting the sacred to R&B and hip-hop grooves. While other gospel acts like Mary Mary and Yolanda Adams have proven that singing for the soul can sell records to mainstream audiences, this Detroit-based duo turns out faith-filled tracks that should appeal to younger crowds used to getting glitz and bang with their bucks. The pair's dance-ready tunes are filled with stutter-stop rhythms, diva-style melismas, and finely honed flair, and they're delivered with high levels of gloss, thanks to hit makers such as Shep Crawford (Boyz II Men, Lil' Mo) and Warryn Campbell (Sisqó, Dru Hill) helping with production. But Pam and Dodi aren't a studio-tweaked creation, and it's obvious when the Holy Spirit takes hold, their voices entwining in gorgeous harmonies on the stunning "I Appreciate You" and lifting them up to meet the powerhouse vocals of K-Ci & Jojo (who join the girls on ""Nobody") note for glorious note. --Sylvia W. Pam Tillis spent decades flirting with folk, jazz, and rock before she finally settled down with country, the genre her father, Mel, bred into her bones. The 1994 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, she had a powerful, head-resonant soprano, and enjoyed a good run with such bankable hits as "Don't Tell Me What to Do," "Spilled Perfume," and the wonderfully wistful "All the Good Ones Are Gone." Then she lost her commercial verve. In 2002, Tillis smartly paid tribute to papa with It's All Relative, a collection of the stuttering legend's material, and now, five years later, she returns with her first album on her own label. But with three producers on board, the results are mixed, at best. Though Tillis picked a stellar group of musicians (mandolinist Sam bush and duet partner John Anderson among them) and chose material from such memorable writers as Leslie Satcher, Matraca Berg, and Jon Randall, the album never really comes together, and much of what's there fails to catch fire. Her intention was apparently to make what she calls a "hippie country" record harkening to the '70s, but it isn't really that--her production seldom takes chances beyond the wrong-headed use of a clarinet, and her arrangements lack the slouch-shouldered joie de vivre of that decade. Still, Rhinestoned has its moments: Satcher's exquisite "That Was a Heartache," Tillis's own "The Hard Way," and Lisa Brokop's humorous "Band in the Window," which captures the tacky thrill of the honky-tonk life. --Alanna Nash

Album Description

With career sales topping 5 million units, multiple Grammy award winner Pam Tillis returns with Rhinestoned, her first studio release in almost 5 years following 2002's critically acclaimed "It's All Relative, a Tribute to Mel Tillis." Co-produced by Tillis herself and veteran writer/producer Gary Nicholson (Delbert McClinton, The Judds, Wynonna).

Rhinestoned resonates with the same heartfelt and dynamic vocals that made Pam a staple at country radio and one of the genre's most enduring and identifiable artists. Tillis continues to revel in her role as an interpreter of timeless country songs. Rhinestoned features many of Nashville's finest songwriters, including Matraca Berg, Walt Wilkins, Leslie Satcher, Jon Randall, Gary Nicholson and Pam herself.

Stepping out of the confines of today's slick and calculated country music, Tillis surrounded herself in the studio with a bevy of cool talent, including mixing engineer Ray Kennedy (Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams). Pam opts for the emotional immediacy of a studio record recorded mostly "direct to disc"... just pure, uninhibited moments.

On Rhinestoned, neo-traditionalist Pam Tillis draws inspiration from her love of folk, bluegrass, roots and traditional country and invites the listener to walk with her across the bridge of Country Music's Past and Country Music's Future.

This is a shining acheivement on a wondrous career. Pam is in full voice telling stories with her music... worth a listen

5 out of 5 stars As Good As It Gets.......2007-05-21

Pam Tillis is the real deal. She is a living legend and in my opinion one of the most important and talented female artists in country music. Tillis doesn't make records in hopes of just being played on the radio, she makes records that mean something to her and to her fans. You will not be disappointed with the album. Nashville needs to open it's ears to this and not all the junk that is being played on country radio. This is one of Pam's best records ever!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-05-13

When I first heard Pam Tillis was releasing a new album I was excited. I am not what you would call a major fan. I have only grown to like her stuff the last few years. With Rhinestoned Pam shows that she can choose and sing songs that most artists would not dare to even touch. You feel as if she has lived every song and emotion of this album. It is a must have for any music lover.

3 out of 5 stars tarnished rhinestones.......2007-05-12

I do like this cd its pretty good. My favorite song on it would have to be " Bettin Money On Love " Its great. " Over My Head " is another song that stand out to me. " Train Without A Whistle " Kind of feminds me of one of Tillis earlier hits " Spilled Perfume " Etc. It s agood But " Band In The Window " I think its too Honkeytonk. But you'll get over it. But anyway BUY IT Its worth it

This is music to dream by. Designed to bring out the singing quality of the cello, the program comprises folk music of many lands, art songs, arias from opera and operetta, and instrumental pieces. All of the 20 numbers except Fauré's "Sicilienne," which the composer himself transcribed for cello, are arrangements. All are slow, lyrical, similar in mood and very repetitious, both motivically and strophically. The dynamics, except for an occasional mild build-up, are subdued; every piece ends in a fade-out. Contrast is limited to instrumental colors, including electronics, and idiomatic rhythms. Julian Lloyd Webber is a fine cellist; his style and temperament seem eminently well suited to this music. His tone is beguilingly sweet and flawlessly pure, but, staying mostly in the middle range of the cello, it lacks nuance and inflection. The intensity of his vibrato varies only in one piece, where he puts swells on all the long notes: Schubert's famous "Serenade," whose simple melody hardly calls for it. He is mightily abetted by some splendid partners, most notably harpist Catrin Finch and pianist John Lenehan, both of whom made several of the arrangements. The record's title comes from the closing number, part of a piece written for the cellist by his brother, Andrew Lloyd Webber, performed here as a song. --Edith Eisler

Album Description

With an overall calming and relaxing theme, and the repertoire ranging from the core classical to interpretations of contemporary writers, Unexpected Songs, his 40th album, will appeal to a wide audience. The title track is composed by his brother, Andrew, and part of the musical Song And Dance and features a special vocal guest appearance by multi-platinum recording artist Michael Ball. Another highlight is the cello arrangement of 'Koyal (Songbird)', originally by producer / songwriter / DJ and orchestral composer Nitin Sawhney, who established himself as one of the UK's leading scorers for film and television. Catrin Finch, the 'Queen of Harps' joins him on several tracks, providing an enchanting accompaniment.

5 out of 5 stars Ultra soothing unexpected tender gems of musical beauty.......2007-05-21

The songs in this album are terrific. Nothing can be written to describe how great they are, so I suggest you listen to the samples.

I bought this album for my father's birthday and he tells me that he has to listen to it every single night to go to sleep.

What initially drew me to this album was a remake of "A Gift of Thistle" from the Braveheart soundtrack by James Horner. If you know that piece, listen to Webber's clip and you'll see how this arrangement flows so nicely and succeeds in accentuating the strengths of the piece. I usually don't like remakes of originals but this one is an exception.

All songs are acoustic except the title track "Unexpected Song".

Total of 20 tracks, well worth it.

In this beautifully chosen program of mostly a cappella arrangements, Robert Shaw and the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers deliver the Christmas story in tones of gentle and moving splendor. The carols and sacred settings recorded here are all of an intimate sort, and the rapturous, gently expressive realizations Shaw and his singers give them prove unfailingly appealing. Particularly moving is the newest work on the disc, a setting of "O magnum mysterium" by the American composer Morten Lauridsen. Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" is another gem, as is the arrangement by Healy Willan of the French carol "What Is This Lovely Fragrance?" The offering includes a pair of chorales from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and two wonderful Christmas works by Benjamin Britten: "A Hymn to the Virgin" and A Ceremony of Carols, both well done, even if the sound of sopranos and altos (rather than boy trebles) in the latter takes some getting used to. --Ted Libbey

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2007-02-16

The music is beautiful of course. The Robert Shaw Chorale is a high quality group of singers, and the arrangements they sing are really nice. Because of the age of the recording today's standards of equpment and tonal quality simply weren't available but the upgrade from analog vinyl was well-done. I shall look for more of these.

5 out of 5 stars Robert Shaw Chorale.......2007-01-10

This is an excellent ablum. The music is lovely and quite varied. While there are many of the familiar favorites, there are also many new and different songs and the whole CD is a delight to listen to.

5 out of 5 stars a perfect Ceremony of Carols!.......2005-12-22

This is the finest recording of Britten's A Ceremony of Carols I've ever come across, and there are plenty of versions to choose from. The King's College Choir rendition suffers from overstuffed acoustics, a constant with that choir, and their recording of Ceremony of Carols falls short in the requisite rhythmic clarity and intensity. The Christ Church, Oxford version is plodding, and lacks sparkle. Harry Christopher's The Sixteen come close, with marvelous sonics and ecstatic diction, but fall apart in the exacting 'This Little Babe' round with uneven cohesion, and strange stressed notes that ruin the waterfall effect so felicitously construed by Britten. I've not heard Britten's own conducted version, but he scrupulously insisted on boy trebles, and it's difficult if not impossible to conjure a more perfect rendering than the one given here by Shaw and his Chamber Singers. 'This Little Babe' is incomparable in each and all of its rapid fire contours, which is no mean feat. Mezzo-soprano Nanette Soles deserves special mention for incandescent singing on 'That Younge Child". The luminous pacing of 'There is no rose of such virtue' is notable, and to his credit Shaw employs the ecclesiastical pronunciation of the various Latin passages, unlike The Sixteen (and most other English choir recordings of this piece) who insist on an idiomatic British pronunciation of Latin, which offers nothing but distraction. Some will prefer boy treble singers, an attractive option, but for high musical values and the art they inevitably enshrine, it's impossible to be disappointed with this profoundly wrought version of Ceremony of Carols. Bach's 'Break Forth, O beauteous heavenly light' is just right, and I'd not heard 'Heavenly Light' by Aleksandr Kopylov; both are favorable additions to an excellent recording. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant compilation.......2005-03-16

This is an absolutely outstanding collection of carols - some of them well-known, some of them obscure. As a choral singer, I've had the pleasure of singing many of these pieces, and I was delighted when I found them all in one place, and done by an ensemble so accomplished as the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers! It just isn't Christmas for me without this recording.

2 out of 5 stars Didn't care for it that much.......2004-12-27

I prefer to hear the voices and the words of the carols, and this one has too much other sound (maybe even the use of massed voices); I have a hard time hearing what they are singing.

Hyped to no end when they first exploded on the scene, the women of Total reminded us that behind every bad boy is a bad girl--and they're back, not to be outdone by fellow erotic ingénues like Foxy Brown and Monifah. Despite the curious British-accented "Yo, bitch, turn this fucking music up" intro, "I Tried" is a slinky late-night groove that showcases Kima, Keisha & Pam's blend of sweet vocals, suggestive lyrics, and kicking beats. Even if each track begins to sound like the last, it doesn't matter when they all sound this good. From the slow-motion steam of "Press Rewind" to the stoned funk of "Move Too Fast," the girls--as obsessed as they are with more carnal concerns--deliver. --Rebecca Wallwork

5 out of 5 stars Kima, Keisha, & Kpam.......2006-04-16

There's no denying the musical genius presented here by Kima, Keisha, and Pam. This is a fantastic cd that everyone should own.

Having said that, I've always thought the name of their act could have been better. I've always thought they should have been called Kima, Keisha, and Kpam instead of Kima, Keisha, and Pam.

I'm not dissing Pam by saying that. I love Pam. Next to Pam Dawber, she's my favorite Pam.

But since Kima and Keisha's names start with a 'K,' it would have looked cooler if Pam's name also started with a 'K.'

She wouldn't have had to pronounce it that way. It could have been a silent 'k' like in the words knit and knap.

Oh well.

5 out of 5 stars Off the Heezy.......2005-09-27

I really thought this cd was well developed. I think the girls have truely matured and with their second album showed us what the real Total was all about. The whole cd was great especially the two singles that were dropped "Trippin" and "Sittin at Home." But in addition i also enjoyed "Bet She Can't" "Rain" "Move Too Fast" and "Press Rewind" Although I would have to say due to the raunchy lyrics the age group definately went up on this cd, I think it was great and deserves much props.

5 out of 5 stars Kima, Keisha, and Pam-The mature Total also known as bad girls of Bad Boy.......2005-05-13

I remember this album when I was in the 6th grade. It was blazing. The return of the girls on this album are revived, polished, and mature. On the album, Their flava is poignantly displayed. Missy Elliott wrote 6 of the album's tracks. The single,Trippin, shows us the familiar funky side of Total. The girls co-wrote 7 songs on the album. This album has been certified Gold. Remember, this was 1998-1999.

4 out of 5 stars Bolder and tougher than their debut! .......2005-02-06

I thought that Total's second album from 1998 was far better than their first album. Bolder, tougher and edgier than the Puffy dominated debut! The shift to Missy Elliott was a smart move as she and Timbaland handled many of their songs. I like Trippin' and I Tried as well as many of the others. The songs have a more sexual tone than the safe feel of the debut. I liked the funky remix of What About Us, which is heavy on the beats. Maybe the album's coarser themes didn't grab many people that year. They'd still be out there now if they had to. Total actually sound good over Timbaland's choppy rhythms and beats. The throwaway song on here is that Khris Kellow-produced ballad. This Diane Warren-written ballad doesn't work for them here--it's too light a song to match with their bad girl image. I still say this is the better Total album and the right one to match with that bad girl, no nonsense feel of theirs.

4 out of 5 stars Total-ly What An Album Is Supposed To Be!.......2004-11-01

Total's album came out in 1998 but I didn't listen to it until 2003. I was too young to listen to it in 98 because I was only 8-years-old, but to be able to hear an album from 5 years ago and still have it sound like it isn't old or something dug up from the closet is amazing. Total's album is filled with Pam (the lead singer)'s powerful, diva vocals, Keisha's sexy voice, and Kima's innocent, playful style. Pam stands out on this album. Her vocals are amazing especially on the interludes which are like little songs in themselves. From beginning to end, you are singing-a-long and dancing to the music. It was a great album.

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2005-11-18

I know that WOW is kind of a small word but this CD ROCKS! I have loved queen for years. I originally bought this CD for my 10 year old son who took up the violin this year and who loves queen as much as I do but it quickly became mine. I've heard some pretty bad imitations, remakes, and ripoffs. I can honestly say that this CD is none of the above. You get 10 of Queens best. 1) Killer Queen, 2) Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) We Are The Champions, 4) We WIll Rock You, which happens to be my favorite on this disk, 5)Fat Bottomed Girls, 6)Crazy Little Thing Called Love, 7) Somebody To Love, 8) Play The Game, 9) You're My Bext Friend, 10) Another One Bites The Dust. The only downside to this disk is that they left out about a hundred other songs. I sincerely hope that The String Quartet comes out with a volume 2, but why stop there. They could go on forever with just Queen Classics.
Do yourself a favor. If you like Queen and Classical Music BUY THIS CD. You won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars YES!!!!.......2005-06-05

Two words: Bohemian Rahpsody.

THey could have released a CD with only this song and I would have bought/borrowed/stolen it to get it. This song is definitely a highlight, but don't stop there, since the rest of the CD will make you want to play it over and over again.

If you've been thinking about buying a String Quartet Tribute, but don't know which to buy, I would buy this one, without a doubt.

4 out of 5 stars Rich, beautiful, visceral, Tool........2006-04-10

Most people who encounter the String Tribute to Tool (also referred to as Third Eye Open) will be crossover fans from Tool's original work, as opposed to fans of experimental string quartet music seeking out Tool for the first time (although this is theoretically possible). And as this CD is essentally a tribute to Tool, this makes sense, and it is not incorrect to want to judge this album in light of Tool's original recordings, which have a vastly different texture of sound. Thus, those seeking complete sonic replicants of the originals are bound to be disappointed, but so shall those who are looking for exploratory arrangements that obliterate much or all of the initial structure of Tool's songs in favor of even more abstraction. Rather, this album lays somewhere in between.

With the powerful opener "Sober", it's hard to see how anyone could discredit this CD. Each instrument really lays into the arrangement like a hot knife into butter. As the cello and bass come in on the song's ubiquitous bass root with a viola adding eerie structure behind, an articulate violin comes in to match Adam Jones' original guitar part with its own frenetic melody. The song continues to be a faithful, creative, and sonically rich interpretation of the original "Sober" for each second after and ends with a sense of true accomplishment, both for the listener and (surely) for the performers.

What fascinates me the most about this CD, though, is how difficult it must be to arrange small string sections to Tool's complex music and that in spite of that each of these arrangements seems to fit almost perfectly. Some songs certainly shine greater than others: the aforementioned "Sober" is one of the best, blooming with energy and sensation. "?nema" is another, featuring slight altercations and juxtapositions in the rhythm and groove as the song continues, as well as a headlong commitment to the grandiosity of the original in spite of the immense difficulty. And besides adding some new solos and phrasings throughout the songs, the performers also took time to include their interpretations of some of the original non-instrumental intros to Tool's music, as on "Intolerance" and "?nema".

While the CD waxes intense for many of the tracks in another display of faith to the original recordings, the mood here is actually somewhat diverse. My personal favorite, "Pushit", is a beautifully melancholic performance that perfectly captures the mood and intent of the original song. "Ticks and Leeches" broods quietly, spending much of its time in the interlude section of the original. Even "Hush", which one might guess would be rendered much less meaningful without lyrics, seems to have retained all of the cynical humor of the 1992 recording.

The flip side of this is that non-Tool fans are sometimes attracted to the band through this CD. While this is certainly not the rule, hearing the Tool's music in such an unusual format often allows people to judge them more objectively. Only a few years after its release, I already know a handful of people who say that they would never have listened to Tool were it not for this CD or its companion (Metamorphic, or Volume 2).

For some, this CD will take just as much of an open mind to understand as Tool's music alone does for so many others. But it is completely worth the adjustment: each interpretation is a rich, poetic blend that can stand amazingly (read: surprisingly) close to the original in musical strength.

2 out of 5 stars is this really tool?.......2006-02-21

2.5 STARS
im an avid tool fan, and a fan of maynards various projects like apc and puscifer, so i know that his music is hard to live up to. this just didnt cut the mustard. the songs ar alright on their own but you can barely tell that its tool, i was expecting more along the lines of apocalyptica's tributes to metallica. they remain heavy but still keep the string sound. i recommend that over this any day.

all in all if you're a classical fan, this might help you get into tool, but not vice versa.

4 out of 5 stars wonderful transition from distorted guitars to violins.......2006-02-06

if you really like tool check this out. if you enjoy classical music, this is also worthwhile to look into. this tribute makes one realize the beauty of tool's music and it's amazing composition. listening to this and then listening to tool's actual material makes you realize they are not just a metal band but are rather their own style of music (though you shouldn't really need this to realize that). the players all come off as competent musicians, however it sounds as if whoever was behind the mixing board picked up a "recording music for dummies" book the night before this was recorded. it really does impact the overall sound of the cd, and one cannot help but wonder what such a project would sound like with a competent producer. however the sheer idea/execution of the project and the presentation of the musicians still makes it a great listen.

1 out of 5 stars This just flat out doesn't work........2005-08-29

You can really tell that the people playing these songs have never really listened to what they are trying to cover. That or the just don't care. They just took every note that TOOL plays and played it exactly. How is that a tribute? It's just a regurgitation on instruments that the song was never written to be played on. If they wanted to do it right, it would have been a lot of work. They would have had to go through each song and essentially rewrite it to work in the new format. I suspect, however, that this was just four guys looking to make some cash quick and easy, which it looks like they're doing.

What's really funny is that they picked just about the worst band to do this with. I would say that most of TOOL comes from the interaction between Maynard and Danny. This version strips out all of that and all your left with is a garbled mess. I love classical (baroque mainly), but this is really just terrible. It's not classical, it's not TOOL, it's not anything worth listening to.

4 out of 5 stars very nice........2005-02-27

Its just a nice album. There are imperfections that sometimes make me want to figure out how to write music myself so i can correct it, but oh well. This and many of the other "Strings Tributes To..." albums are just perfect background music at work or when I'm cleaning the house, whenever I want a softer, subtler version of some favorites.

I also suggest the Strings Tribute To Led Zeppelin, Metalica (even though i'm not a big fan of them), Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam, Marilyn Manson, and Nirvana. I don't have the Strings...A Perfect Circle yet, but I am positive that I will like.

They're all just as good, and fit a very specific mood that I find hard to describe.

It's the kind of music everyone needs to perk up their day. If you have had a bad day or are expecting a bad day, Boom Pam's music will brighten your outlook.

The genre is difficult to identify, but there should be more of it available. Oh yeah, you have to love tubas. Yes, love tubas. Non-tuba lovers need not be afraid. Listen to the CD once and you will be converted.

Boom Pan is fresh, unique, familiar, progressive, and retro. simultaneously.

With an impressive roster from the country-music spectrum, the Nashville CD of music inspired by Prince of Egypt works as a compilation itself, if not as a compendium of the film. Fortunately, with a couple of exceptions, the producers steered away from "country pop" acts and concentrated on vocal talents like Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, and Wynonna. Wynonna's "Freedom" is a pleasant gospel workout, and Krauss's folky "I Give You to His Heart" is perhaps the compilation's best track, though Charlie Daniels's "Could It Be Me" is an upbeat frolic that actually has more of a feel for the film than any other track on the disc. "Make It Through" is a nicely written song, but Randy Travis isn't the man to sing it--his slow vocals seem outmatched by the upbeat song, and there isn't much flow. A handful of the tracks are overly sentimental, but, for the most part, this is a pleasant listen. --Aaron Tassano

5 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL.......2005-05-11

I can't believe that none of these songs were ever on the radio. Now I am a young African-American woman, the first time I heard this cd I fell in love with country music. I would recommend anyone to buy this cd.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is astonishing.......2005-01-15

I used the Faith Hill song "Somewhere down the road" for my infant daughters funeral who was born stillborn. We love the whole CD.

5 out of 5 stars The songs are terrific.......2004-07-27

I had an opportunity to purchase this CD while on vacation in Nashville, and it's fabulous. I listen to it over and over and never tire of it. Since I didn't see the movie, I don't know how this collection stacks up to the original sound track, but it really doesn't matter -- I like pop/country and all the songs are great and well performed!

3 out of 5 stars Somewhere Down The Road - Grant's is better than Faith's.......2003-10-25

If you like Somewhere Down The Road on here, you should check out Amy Grant's version... Grant sang it first and co-wrote it, it's on her "Behind The Eyes" album, and was released on Christian radio as a single back in '97. Faith's is pretty good, but a bit overdone and oversung, Grant's is perfect, check it out! Faith also sang another song that Amy wrote, although I'm not sure what it is.

5 out of 5 stars A fine soundtrack album.......2003-03-31

Three different soundtrack albums were released for the movie Prince of Egypt, so although I did not see it, I guess that there was a lot of music in it. This soundtrack focuses on the country recordings, showcasing many different aspects of country music as it was at the time. Although (as far as I know) all songs were specially recorded for the album, some have since appeared on individual albums by the artists.

If you are familiar with any of the featured singers, you will not be surprised at anything here, as each of them adopts their usual style. Your favorite tracks are therefore likely to depend on who your favorite singers are. I particularly like the duet featuring Randy Travis and Linda Davis and the tracks featuring Alison Krauss, Pam Tillis, Vince Gill and Reba McEntire, but every track is wonderful.

This album also marked the recording debut of Jessica Andrews. Her song, I will be there for you, was one of the singles from the album and was also included in her own debut album, Heart shaped world. All the other artists were already established names.

This is a very interesting soundtrack, well worth tracking down.

5 out of 5 stars Great All Around.......2003-12-08

I'm a country fan, but I can face reality: much of the country music that has been prodced since the mid-nineties has been fluff. it's becoming more difficult to separate the good from the bad, but occasionally a gem like this comes along to make the search worthwhile. Man, this girl can sing. This CD produced 5 hit singles, but frankly, there's no fluff on here. I could see any of these songs being a hit on the radio. Rarely will you find such a fine combination of singer and songwriters to come up with such magic, especially for something that isn't an "event" CD.

I can play this all the way through without skipping any songs, so it gets my highest recommendation. I'd advise to pick this CD up instead of any of Ms. Tillis' greatest hits collections. I think you'd enjoy this one more, expecially for the price.

5 out of 5 stars One of my best buys ever!.......2003-11-27

God, can this girl sing! Not one bad track on the whole CD with high points for me being the excellent 'put yourself in my place' and 'don't tell me what to do'. This album also boasts Some of the finest country harmony vocals you will ever hear, well worth buying just for that alone

Brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent debut!.......2001-10-19

This CD produced five singles, many of which hit the top ten. The best songs on the CD are "Maybe It Was Memphis," "Blue Rose Is," "Don't Tell Me What To Do," "One Of Those Things," and "Ancient History." Lyrics are included on the insert, and writers credits include Pam herself, Paul Overstreet, Harlan Howard, and Radney Foster.

5 out of 5 stars Country's Best Female Vocalist.......2000-01-04

There are people who sing, & then there are SINGERS. Pam Tillis is definitely the latter, with one of the purest voices in the business. Whether she's doing a sweet country ballad or one of her sassy, defiant up-tempo tunes, there's no one better. This is a collection of ten strong tracks ranging from the ballads, "Maybe It Was Memphis", "Blue Rose Is" & "One of Those Things", to the fast-paced, bluegrass-inflected "Put Yourself in My Place" and the huge hit that put her on the map, "Don't Tell Me What to Do". She truly has no competition in the Country Female Vocalist category.
