Jaci Velasquez
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The remarkable maturity of Jaci Velasquez's voice, so well displayed on her 1996 debut release, continues on this self-titled second offering. Here, the prodigious 19-year-old rising star has recorded pop gems by the likes of Chris Eaton, producer Mark Heimermann, singer/songwriter deluxe Michelle Tumes, and DC Talk's Toby McKeehan. "God So Loved the World," "You," "Look What Love Has Done," and "Sweet Surrender" are all magnificent examples of topflight writing, production, and singing. Velasquez even shows a gritty side on "Child of Mine" and "Show You Love," revealing a raw power beyond her more tempered efforts. No doubt Miss Velasquez has raised the bar with this outstanding release, widely believed to have helped her win the 1999 Dove Award for best female vocalist. --Michael Lyttle

Album Description
An undeniable pop phenomenon for over a decade, Jaci Velasquez took the world by storm in 1996 with the debut of her platinum-selling album, Heavenly Place (distinguishing her as the fastest selling solo debut recording artist in the Christian genre). It's been an upward career spiral ever since by way of platinum and gold-selling albums, seven Dove Awards and 16 #1 Christian singles. Over the past six years, Jaci has established herself as a beloved Latin artist and has toured all over the world in support of four award-winning Spanish albums. Other successes involve cuts in successful soundtracks, a role as an international spokesperson, an emerging movie career and, most recently, launching a record label (Apostrophe Records). Despite a decade's worth of top-selling albums and chart-topping hits, there has yet to be a best of collection from Jaci Velasquez until now. As an appreciation to her ever-evolving career, On My Knees: The Jaci Velasquez Collection is! a 17-song career retrospective, but most importantly, an ode to this extraordinary and multi-faceted individual.

JACI VELASQUEZ.......2007-01-06
I WILL REST IN YOU is beautiful. Even when we feel far away from Him, He is ever near, a watchful unfathomably LOVING Father who knows all our sorrows, tribulations, disappointments, defeats. We can slow down through His HOLY SPIRIT (not of ourselves) and enter into the REST He has prepared for His beloved. I am moved every time I hear this song. As I am sure you can tell, this song drew me to purchasing the CD.
A beautiful Mami. Jaci Velasquez. One of God's precious. .......2006-07-01
During her ten-year tenure in the music business, the multi-talented and gorgeous Jaci Velasquez has racked up 16 #1 songs (along with a few Dove Awards). A 17-song collection of her best songs came from her five albums (her 1996 debut album, "Heavenly Place", her 1998 self-titled, "Jaci Velasquez", 2000's "Crystal Clear", 2003's "Unspoken" and 2005's "Beauty Has Grace"). My personal favorites are "Un Lugar Celestial (A Heavenly Place)", the worship songs, "On My Knees", "I Will Rest In You", "God So Loved" and "Adore" and the society-conscious Christian bangers, "Every Time I Fall", "We Can Make A Difference" and "If This World". It rounds out with the soulful duet, "Colors of the Heart" (featuring legendary gospel singer Oleta Adams) because not only is it a touching song, but Jaci sings in Spanish to add some flavor to the song.
With this banging collection of songs, a rising movie career and as owner of her new record label (Apostrophe Records), Jaci Velasquez continues to rise to the challenges of being a Christian in a fallen world. Pray for her continued walk with Jesus Christ and continued success for her music career. Praise the Lord!
Great Singer!!.......2006-06-26

Beautiful Voice...Beautiful Message.......2006-06-08
This CD contains a good selection of songs showcasing the great voice that is Jaci Velasquez's - a voice that is reminiscent of Mariah Carey with a Latin vibe. My favorite song is "Un Lugar Celestial". It is a well-crafted song that is very beautiful, passionate, spiritual and dare I say it - sensual. The video version is spellbinding.
Other favorites include:
"On My Knees"
"God So Loved"
"I Will Rest in You"
"Speak for Me"
"God Loves You"
"Adore"
"Just a Prayer"
I would like to also draw special attention to "Imagine Me Without You". This is amongst her best. The song is about her intimate and close relationship with God. But the lyrics are written in such a way that they could easily pass for that of a romantic love song. This song is of such a high quality that I am somehwhat puzzled why it didn't crossover and become a mainstream hit.
I would also like to comment on "Lay it Down". The song is a confessional ballad with a theme about learning to "let go and let God" - a very important spiritual lesson. This is a track from the newly released "Beauty Has Grace" CD and presents a different side to Jaci's voice. It sounds more raspy.
Some have commented that Jaci may be losing her voice. I don't see it that way. I think what we have here is the emergence of a young woman with more of life's experiences and it is being reflected in her voice. I rather like the change.
I only gave the CD 4 stars because of the selections of some songs, namely, "Everytime I Fall", "We Can Make a Difference", and "Unspoken". These songs have a good message but they either have a more hard rock sound or an excess of "electronica".
I think an accoustic sound is more spiritual and would suit her better. I would like to see more emphasis on the Spanish guitar, and piano - less emphasis on the electric rock guitar and synthesized sound effects. Also, I would like her to select some Christian standards.
Incidentally, her cover photo on this CD is a strikingly beautiful one.

It's hard to fathom a 16-year-old singing with the presence that Jaci Velasquez has on Heavenly Place. Then again, she is no ordinary teenager. This 1996 debut by the gifted Christian-pop star landed numerous awards and was the fastest-selling solo debut in Christian-music history. It won't take long to figure out why when you hear "On My Knees," "Shelter," and "Un Lugar Celestial," which showcase Velasquez's voice as being mature beyond her years. There's a depth and richness that emanates from each carefully recorded track, thanks in large part to producer Mark Heimermann. The young Velasquez blends and transcends each aural backdrop provided. You want cool? Check out the mystical "Baptize Me," easily one of the best CCM tracks of 1996. --Michael Lyttle

Star Stuff.......2005-10-21
Jaci Velasquez is such a rare person. Her way is decidely pop, and at times with a christian angle; somewhat like Amy Grant. She is often snubbed by the Christian music community because few of her songs even get close to Christian music. At 16yo on this debut recording, she shows a remarkable range, and confidence in her abilities and reception. She is multi-octave, comfortably bi-lingual, drop dead gorgeous, and with less than flashy plummage. She's easy to take, and easier to love. Why this gifted person isn't recognized as one of the world's greatest songstress, and hell-uva great person, must lie in the fact she was initially presented as a Christian artist. That's fine. Her stated goal is to make people feel better about themselves. Jaci Velasquez has everything!
Heavenly.......2005-08-22
An impressive debut from then 16 year old Jaci Velasquez. The fastest selling Christian debut.
With a soft, breathy, smoky voice far more mature than her age, the songs range from the Spanish tinged `Lugar Celestial (a heavenly place)', a stunning mid tempo number, the upbeat duet `Shelter', the atmospheric `Baptize me' with it's slow to fast build up, and sound effects, awesome!
Then there are the stunning acoustic ballads; Thief of always', `Flower in the rain' and the absolutely brilliant `On my knees', a song about the power of prayer (penned by Nicole C Mullen and covered on her debut CD too).
Finally, we have the poppy, upbeat numbers `If this world' and `We can make a difference', a style Jaci continues to incorporate in at least a couple of tracks on each of her CDs.

On this energizing collection of Spanish-language devotional songs, Texan singer Jaci Velásquez uses her deeply emotional, octave-stretching voice to spread the word to a whole new audience. About half the songs are translations of existing hits, from "God So Loved" to "On My Knees," "Little Voice Inside," and "I Promise," while the rest are new songs written in Spanish. The songs are fabulous, and they mirror the eclecticism of contemporary Hispanic sounds--from the amped-up Tejano surefire hit "Con Tu Amor," which will please fans of Selena, to the many lush ballads and the freestyle-inspired dance-floor rocker "Junto a Mi." --Mike McGonigal

Jaci Velasquez---her CD is neat!.......2006-11-01
Whether you speak Spanish or not, this is a great CD. The first song has a very strong latin vibe to it, and is a song you can sing in front of the mirror of (really!). I love the song Llegar a Ti, and Junto Mi. I like all of the songs, because they're all so smooth and rich. It's also nice to know you're not swearing in Spanish when you sing along! I really enjoyed this CD, and I'm sure you will too.
this album is gold!!!.......2005-07-23
This is mos DEfinetly Jaci's best album, str8 up,,i dunt think she has come up wit anyhting matching up to this, "Mi corazon" her next album after this one is almost as close, but " LLegar A Ti" is jus top, theres sumthn unique about this album,,from the opening song,,to the grammy winning song "llegar a ti" to the spanish version "Un lugar Celestial", the guitar is awsome in this song, to de "creer en ti"..wich i think is one of the best in the album,,"Solo tu" is also a very tuching song,, "Junto a ti" makes u wanna jump wit its dancestyle club beat..and all the way through till "Al mundo Dios amo"..i think this the only Jaci album that ive listened all the way through, cuz all the songs r good,, especially "llegar a ti" i dun think they aint anybody out there, not even secular that can top this today..im still waitin on it,, but Jaci was at the top of the game in this album..im still waitinfor her to come out wit sumthing like this or ta least a remix o sumthn outta this album wich i think would be great...also look at her album "Mi corazon" its not as great as this one but youll find the fist song on that album "Como se cura una herida" (wich also won a grammy) to be just as good as any song in " Llegar a ti"...well i hope this review helped.. now i gota bounceeeee
Jaci at her Best.......2004-04-02
This album kicks off to a great start with "Con Tu Amor", an awesome song with a Latin feel. The high-quality songs continue with the soulful "Llegar a Ti" (the title track and, in my opinion, the best song on the album), translations of her English songs ("Un Lugar Celestial", "Al Mundo Dios Amo", "Como una Flor", etc.), and great new songs like "Junto a Mi" and "Solo Tu". This is definitely Jaci at her best--Milagro, while more modern and popular, just doesn't live up to the standard she set in Llegar a Ti. I would recommend this album even if you don't speak Spanish. (Actually, it's a good way to learn it!)
Latin Music With A Meaningful Twist: Jaci Velasquez!.......2002-10-03
I have always been a fan of Latin music, well, certain artists like Selena, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Jon Secada, and Gloria Estefan. However, none of them (no offense) can match up to the versatility and voice of Jaci Velasquez. Although LLEGAR A TI fits into the Latin genre, because of some of the music, it has a more meaningful twist than the rest of the above. Jaci proves to herself and all her loved ones that she has a purpose in doing in what she does. That purpose is to reach out to believers and unbelievers alike through witnessing for Christ, by music.
Her voice is outstanding on this CD! My all-time favorite song of hers is on it: the title track! The Spanish versions of "Un Lugar Celestial (A Heavenly Place)", "Look At What Love Has Done", "God So Loved", "On My Knees", "Flower In The Rain", and "Little Voice Inside" are just as beautiful as the English versions. The originals are living proof that Jaci loves God, and she loves doing music!
I pray that Jaci will continue to reach out to the Latin community with this "new" kind of Latin music in a very positive way, with both LLEGAR A TI and MI CORAZON! God bless you, sister Jaci!
Que Bueno!!!.......2002-04-11
Jaci V is absolutely AWESOME on this album! My friend and I love the tunes of Con Tu Amor and Junto a Mi for dancing a great merengue! And the title cut is absolutely beautiful! As I say, Gotta luv Jaci V!

i feel as if it isn't like Crystal Clear as many were saying. I liked about 5/12 songs on there. so yeah. i liked the first three: You're my God, Jesus Is, Lost without You, Real Me, Uspoken
those were my favorites..the rest were kind of boring and slow. and i agree, her voice was definately lower in SOME songs, but she is still really good.
Not her best.......2004-06-06
This is her 7th album. She once said she was still trying 2 find her style. 1st of all, her voice was completely different from her 1st. WORSE. Not as deep and good as it was B 4. The first song is what U would expect for a teen pop performers 1st album. I liked the violin sound of the 2nd song. But that was it. The 3rd song had good beat and lyrics, but her voice ruined it. The 4th 1 is actually really good. Her voice didn't ruin it. The 5th 1 had a really good opening. The 6th 1 is the best! Great opening, very unique and her voice didn't ruin it. But it was 2 short. The 7th 1 was good, but she wasn't putting enough vocal strength in 2 it. The 8th 1 starts out with a gentle techno sound, but just wasn't good enough. The 9th 1 had terrible lyrics, and was pointless. The 10th 1 was alright. I don't have anthing 2 say about the 11th, and the last song... Uh uh. My over all problem with this CD is that, it was 2 scattered and just not enough. And her voice.
Good :).......2004-04-04
This album is a bit different from all other Jaci cd's, especially the beat & instrumentation, perhaps less vocally challenging. But just as good.
All the songs are worth listening to, and the lyrics are deep and meaningful. They express her love for God, and her true self. My favorite tracks are "You're my God" , "Lost without you", "The real me" (am i the girl that u want me to be-with thoughts of fear of intimacy), and "Unspoken" (...don't leave your heart unspoken), "Glass House"(i know i can take it, you can throw the stones, cause it's my faith that keep me strong.)Listening to the CD rejoices me. Jaci is very talented! Vocals not as strong as in her older albums YET this is a great cd to own.
Don't let this slip by...its your loss.......2004-01-27
Jaci Velasquez's Unspoken is a great CD! It makes a home in my heart with the title track alone. Unspoken the title track is so good that its worth the cd. The other songs are good also, songs like "The Real Me" and "He" among others make this a must have for 2004.
Do let this cd slip by becasue it has a message for everyone.

Crystal Clear CD by Jaci Velasquez.......2005-08-13
This is the BEST CD Jaci has made! It is very exciting Latin music. It is a Christian recording, but will hold the excitement of teenagers. I know, because I bought one for me, one for my grandaughter for her birthday (she loved mine so much and she's 14), and one for her boyfriend who had been listening to his sister's CD and had been wanting it! He is 15! If you like fast, exciting Latin music, by all means, don't miss getting this one!
See ya, Jaci..........2005-03-01
The lady can sing, but her "Christian" message is compromised because of her part in "Chasing Papi", where she played a woman who - had she had the chance - would have hopped into bed with her on-screen boyfriend prior to marriage. It's "Crystal Clear" to me that Jaci broke my heart in a million pieces when she played that part. It's really tragic to see such a beautiful young lady with such a opowerful voice and message now reduced to nothing more than a hypocritical wannabee, much in the same way that Stacie Orrico is now becoming.....and is it just me, or is it coincidence that these two womens' album covers look strikingly similar? It appears their paths in life are similar, too: compromising a message and a stand that once set them worlds apart. As with a recent review of Orrico that I made, I'll give Jaci Velasquez her due: she can sing, and what I mean by that is sing the roof off of a house! This album was excellent.....was. Now, whenever I think or hear of Jaci Velasquez, I can only think one word: HYPOCRITE.
great singer - great voice.......2005-01-24
Jaci Velasquez is a young singer who has a great voice and a great start to her career. Although she doesn't write all her songs, she does quite a lot of them and I think they're great, and nobody's gonna change my mind. I have several of her CDs and this is one of my favorites. Just so you know, I think the samples they chose here are horrible and I think you will like the CD a lot better unless you are just one of those people who can't be pleased and critisize everything, like some people who have written on here.
please...no..........2005-01-15
ok heres the deal. jaci is an average singer that has a hype of this superwonderful voice and powerhouse. it's not true. her voice is nice at best and her songs are (generally) trite and simple, with melodies stolen from current pop songs (tell me you can't sing Jennifer Lopez's (don't get me started on her sub-par singing voice)"if you had my love" to the chorus of jaci's "every time i fall". if i was j.lo's agent i'd sue). this isn't her only song that does this, but i can't remember anymore so it's hard to believe me, i know. :) I had (notice - HAD) the enhanced version that encluded exclusive interviews (!!) with jaci at home. it was all so touching...anyways. so i got "special insight" to the song on the album. she said everyone but her didn't want "crystal clear" to be on the album but she insisted. too bad she didn't listen. its one of those confusing songs that leaves you thinking "wait...are you talking about God...or your boyfriend?!?" if you wanna sing a love song (which CC most assuredly is) than DO it! don't try to pass if off as singing to God, cuz it just comes off as a little weird and confusing. and I don't have enough time to get started on "Adore Adore Adore Adore...etc etc etc" what she needs is a window (ok ok it's a bad joke sorry). but actually i like to use the door when i hear that song. i don't recommend this to ANYone! if you MUST get a jaci cd, then i hesitantly suggest "unspoken"(also a kinda dumb song but 2 to 3 star cd). ok im done.
Wow...I..........2004-08-03
This was sooo great. I borrowed this CD from a friend and after a few listens i was stunned. The first time i listened to it, I found it kind of slow, but the more i listened, i found the lyrics helpful, and i found i was almost entraced with it. i reccomend this. i really do.

Customer Reviews:
Astonishing.......2006-09-10
I've never been a real big fan of Jaci. I know some of the songs, and have a couple of her CDs, but by and large I've never really been into her; and, I admit, pretty much bought Beauty Has Grace sight unseen because of how good she looks on the cover. And then I listened to it.
I have never witnessed a musical transformation like this. Between albums, Jaci has gone from a (sorry to say) vapid pop singer with a merely average voice to a full fledged music goddess. Her vocals change from minute to minute: sometimes light and sexy (best example: "All My Soul"; listen to that and tell me her "yeah" isn't about the cutest thing you ever heard), but at times raw, edgy, tinged with a certain--something. (I hate to say anger, but, in her own words: "I found myself getting mad at a song because it wasn't coming out right. That's actually how a lot that singing came about.") From the very raw "When You Hold Me", to the catchy (and closest to her old poppy stuff like "Everytime I fall") "Reason To Believe", EVERY song on this album is good; and that's saying something when most modern CDs have maybe one or two good songs with a few "listenable" ones scattered about.
"I wanted...the rawness, and kind of the nakedness, of all the (vocal) imperfections," Jaci said in a 2005 interview--aptly titled "Raw Faith" (which, hopefully, puts to rest any theories on her losing her voice). She's no longer the CCM pop sensation she once was, though she should be; and she's huge in Latin America--with stuff that, I hate to say, is terrible; but the woman is young and enormously talented. If she focuses her energy on making another album with the quality and uniqueness of this, she will truely cement her place in musical history. Jaci Velasquez: This Beauty Has Grace.
Experimental, Inconsistent, Disappointing.......2006-06-25
First, here are some general positives about Jaci Velasquez:
- She is a very gifted singer. Her vocal range is top-notch - definitely on par with Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera.
- She is beautiful. And unlike a previous reviewer, I do not consider the recognition of this attribute to be a sign of shallowness but rather a display of appreciation for feminine beauty. I like beautiful singing voices. I like beautiful women. There's no difference.
- She has great spiritual depth. Her music reflects key spiritual themes such as love, faith and joy.
Now, here's a critique of the CD:
I listened to all the music samples (as you can do as well) and only one song caught my attention - "Lay It Down". The other tracks have too much of a hard rock sound and were too experimental for my taste. But the song "Lay It Down" was different. It sounded more acoustic, more in the style of folk rock - a genre that reflects my personal preference in pop music.
I found the sound clip of "Lay It Down" to be intriguing because it reminded me of a hit song in the 1970's - Eric Carmen's "All By Myself", later covered by Celine Dion in 1996. "All By Myself" is a ballad having a soft, understated introductory verse with an explosive chorus. The sample clip of "Lay It Down" appears to be in the same mold. It has a soft, understated introductory verse; however, it seems to lack an explosive chorus.
Listen to the sample and hear it for yourself. The introductory verse is closing with the following lyrics:
"All of my hopes and my dreams and my best laid plans
Are slowly slipping through my folded hands"
So far, so good. There's only a piano and a violin accompanying Jaci's soft vocals. Next, the song appears to be moving from the verse to the chorus and you hear the following lyrics:
"So I'm gonna lay it down
I'm gonna learn to trust You now"
Now here's a problem. I am expecting to hear the beginning of an emotional outburst - an opportunity for a singer with the pipes of Jaci Velasquez to showcase her voice. But it is not forthcoming. Why?
This intrigued me and I wanted to hear the whole song but I did not want to purchase a CD for only one song. Luckily, I discovered that a compilation CD of Jaci Velasquez's best songs was released recently and it contained "Lay It Down". Great! I bought the CD - "On My Knees: The Best of Jaci Velasquez".
This is what I discovered after listening to "Lay It Down".
- The first time through the verse and the chorus, the song is definitely understated. We simply have the accompaninment of a piano and a violin with Jaci's soft vocals.
- The second time through the verse and the chorus, a drum beat is introduced and Jaci begins to let some emotion out beginning in the middle of the verse and when the song moves into the chorus a complete emotional outburst occurs. But somewhat to my dismay, this is not the same voice that I am expecting from Jaci Velasquez. Her voice was more raspy and raw (actually, it was sounding more like Demi Moore or Tara Reid, not that that is necessarily bad). Furthermore, she appeared to be struggling.
Is this the same voice that was soaring effortlessly through the stratosphere on songs such as "On My Knees", "Speak For Me", and "Adore"? Is Jaci Velasquez losing her voice?
I don't know but I find it very difficult to imagine that a young woman in her mid-20's is losing her voice. She is entering her prime. Barring a health issue, this just doesn't happen.
"Lay It Down" is actually a pretty good song. In fact, I am almost of the opinion that it may be her best. I certainly find myself listening to this song more than any of her others.
"Lay It Down" has the same message as the Beatles' classic "Let It Be". The words are different but both songs share the same sentiment. Actually, now that I think of it...they do share a couple of words in common...the words "let it be". Here are the closing lyrics:
"I'm gonna let it be, I'm gonna let it go
I'm gonna lay it down"
The essential lesson being conveyed is learning to "let go and let God" - a profound spiritual insight. Something that each of us here is learning.
This song is heartfelt and gut-wrenching. And though her voice is struggling through it, the song, nevertheless, works out its magic.
I gave this CD 2 stars because I think Jaci Velasquez is attempting to redefine her music style and has not succeeded. Interestingly enough, her best sound was her first CD - Un Lugar Celestial (A Heavenly Place). Bring back the spanish/flamenco guitar and develop a more acoustic sound. In my opinion, the acoustic sound is more spiritual. Keep the piano and electric bass guitar but dispense with the hard rock electric guitar and synthesized sound effects. Develop a Latin folk rock sound with an element of jazz. Hire a good saxophonist or a trumpet player. Emphasize ballads. That should do the trick.
Consistent and great!.......2005-08-22
Like many other people, I had read several online reviews of this CD which stated this was a new direction for Jaci; more alternative even.
I disagree! It sounds similar to `Unspoken' from 2003 and `Jaci Velasquez' from 1998. Yes, a little edginess creeps into some tracks like the lovely, grunge-y `Something beautiful' and `When you hold me', but songs like `I'm not looking down' (with its distinctive guitar riff) and `With all my soul' (sounding a bit like Natalie Imbruglia) sound like her other stuff. Sunny sounding, catchy, upbeat pop/rock songs.
That's not to say this isn't a good CD, in fact it is GREAT! What we get here are catchy pop/rock tunes, guitars pushed to the fore, and Jaci's soft, breathy, smoky vocals. A slightly European sound.
She actually sounds raw and raspy on songs like the brilliant tender ballad `Lay it down' (about letting go and trusting God; one of the standouts) and the Alanis sounding grunge rocker `When you hold me' with shimmery sounding guitars. Some people have said her voice is deteriorating but I love the earthy sound. Besides, she doesn't sing/sound like this on any other songs.
`Tonight' is a catchy upbeat duet with Michael Clarke (don't know who he is but he has a great voice). `Prayer to love' is a pleasant mid tempo rocker. I love the mid tempo rocker `Reason to believe' with melancholic sounding guitar and a sudden break. Another standout.
`Supernatural' and `This love' (the album gets its name from a line in this song) are beautiful ballads, perfectly showcasing her fantastic vocals. In God's eyes we're all the same/this love is for everyone. True!
10 songs but not a single duff track among them.
Recorded in London, England, (explains the slight European sound) and featuring 6 Jaci co writes, the songs take a bit of repeated playing to grow but another great CD from Jaci Velasquez.
Simply the best.......2005-07-28
Everybody has different points of view, and mine is THIS CD IS AWESOME!, Jaci knows how to evolve and give us something totally different and very touchin' lyrics. I think you should buy it if you love Christian music, all Jaci CD's are MUST HAVE!.

Inpirational, Passionate, Spiritual.......2006-05-28
Jaci Velasquez is the embodiment of grace and beauty. The Holy Spirit is definitely speaking through her voice. "Speak to Me" is the best track. Buy the CD and let the Spirit speak to you.
Disappointing.......2005-08-24
This young woman is an extremely talented singer. She is also very charming and attractive. After seeing her in Chasing Papi, I admired her youthful vigor. And that beautiful black hair is stunning. She has a beautiful voice. The CD is produced well.
But...
But the sound is little different than every other female contemporary christian music singer. So if that's what you want, then fine
I was hoping that this young lady would bring the world something different. I thought perhaps that her Latin background would bring a new spice into the contemporary christian music scene. But instead, it was the other way around. The contemporary christian family friendly happy suburban American world has made its mark on her.
Speaks to me.......2005-08-22
This eponymous CD is Jaci Velasquez's sophomore effort, and my favourite of all her CDs to date. Oh, I love the natural looking, stunning cover photo too!
Featuring Toby Mac and Tait of DC Talk on some of the tracks, it featured a slightly edgier sound from her debut, and deeply personal lyrics about vulnerability and dependence on God.
Opening track is the tender ballad `God so loved', here in an English and Spanish version (`Al mundo Dios amó').
Then comes the rocker `Show you love' featuring Tait on harmonizing vocals. This song really kicks.
`Little voice inside' is an epic, dramatic, acoustic/string laden ballad co penned by Toby Mac, as is `Speak for me' which is a song asking to be used as God's mouth piece. Both songs are brilliant!
'You' is a beautiful tender ballad extolling the virtues of God.
'Look what love has done' is a power ballad in the style of Celine Dion. 'Glory' is Jaci's trademark sunny, upbeat pop sound.
`Child of mine' is my absolute favourite track. A very edgy, rocky track, in the style of Jennifer Knapp. Sung from the view point of God, it tells us we are His child. Awesome!
The pair of `Sweet surrender' and `Paper tigers' are brooding, psychedelic-sounding ballads sung in a smoky lower register.
`Made my world' is another upbeat rocker, similar to `Show you love'.
An excellent follow up. 4 and a half stars!
The Only Jaci CD Worth Buying..........2005-07-23
Don't make up your mind about Jaci until you've heard this CD. Even if the music doesn't appeal to you, the well-delivered lyrics are amazing; very sincere and full of truth. The melodies are strong, each song can stand by itself, and before long you'll find yourself singing along. Personally I'd buy it just for the beautiful, "You." I don't own many popular Christian CD's, but whenever I feel I'm faltering in my walk with God this CD never fails to uplift and encourage me.
Exquisite vocals, deep and well crafted songs.......2005-03-05
I first got into CCM around 1997, and a few years later discovered Jaci Velasquez on the WOW 90s cd, and later picked this one up. Very entertaining, especially "Look What Love Has Done", and "Child Of Mine". I would classify most of this as adult contemporary, with some pop as well. A few songs such as "Show You Love" could have been a bit better, but overall, excellent; the same goes for her entire catalog (except her spanish releases, I haven't heard those)

It should come as no surprise that Jaci Velasquez opted for a more traditional, classic approach to this holiday seasonal release. After all, she exudes the strength and emotion in her vocals that are reminiscent of some of the Big Band era's greatest female singers. Interestingly enough, the orchestra backing on Christmas was recorded live in Ireland, giving Velasquez the framework she needs to build her melodic magic. Whether it's the dreamy "I'll Be Home for Christmas" or the warm and comfy "The Christmas Song," Velasquez is gifted with a certain timeless quality when she sings. There's also a cool and atmospheric rendering of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel." Velasquez also features three new compositions here, including the beautiful "The Angel Song." You'll want to have this CD in your player when the holidays come calling. --Michael Lyttle
Customer Reviews:
big band classics are back!.......2007-01-17
jaci, as stated in a personal interview, was trying to capture the 'big band' sound of classical christmas greats like bing crosby and andy williams. in my estimation, she succeeded, and then some.
her vocals are full of richness and depth, her musical backgrounds ring with christmas cheer, and her involvement of the chipmunks inspired.
i highly recommend this christmas album to anyone who loves good christmas music.
Jaci comes through again!.......2007-01-17
I have been a fan for Jaci Velasquez for the past eight years and enjoy hearing her voice in both languages. I do not speak Spanish but enjoy her artistic abilities none the less. This album lived up to the Velasquez name in my book- My family and I only really enjoy the traditional sounding Christmas carols and tend to not enjoy the revised versions. Jaci's album not only made sure the carols were sung traditionally but she has given us a gift a couple new songs that will be added to my Christmas traditions! Overall I LOVE this album and the only reason I did not give it a full five stars was that I am done with that Chipmunk Song. Sorry everybody.
Best Christmas CD ever!.......2004-12-11
If you want to give someone the perfect gift this year, choose Jaci Velasquez Christmas! Even though this came out a long time ago, I still listen to it all winter!
You'll love "O come, O come, Emmanuel". It sounds really cool. You'll also burst out laughing every time you listen to "The Chipmunk Song", where the chipmunks try to speak Spanish. You'll also enjoy "Season of Love", which is my second favourite song on the CD. But the best song on the entire CD has to be her version of "Felis Navidad". I highly recommend this CD to everyone!
"Christmas" is beautiful.......2004-04-02
I would buy this album just for "The Angel Song", which is the second track, a truly angelic and original song. But the rest of the album stands on its own, too. Sure, the songs sound slow when you listen to them in the summer, but on a frosty winter day it's absolutely perfect! "The Chipmunk Song" is hilarious, and "Feliz Navidad" is a nice change from the other soft, breathy songs. Makes a great Christmas present for anyone who likes quiet Christmas songs!
This is pretty bad stuff.......2003-12-13
Okay, so the Jaci Velazquez worshipers out there will want to kill me for this, but I don't think I've ever heard such an awful Christmas CD as this one. I bought it as a gift for my wife, who adores Jaci, and my wife wanted to throw it away after listening to it. This album goes to prove that just because someone has a good voice and strong talent, that person can't necessarily sing effectively in other styles, such as jazz, crooning, etc. There are a few gems here (hence the second star) such as tracks 1, 2, and 11, and tracks 3, 4, and 5 are decent, but there are also some awful songs. Her version of "Let It Snow. . ." is truly painful to listen to, and the remake of "The Chipmunk Song" is pathetic at best. I love Jaci's contemporary stuff, but she's out of her element here, trying to pull off what Amy Grant did with her second Christmas album, and it simply doesn't work.

My review after 4 months listening..........2005-11-19
I bought this album on a CD spree. It was one of several CDs. Tough competition! I admit, the only songs on here that were immediately attention-getting (high-impact, fast impression) were "No Hace Falta Un Hombre" and "Es Amor." I guess one of these was a song to a Spanish drama. I usually only listen to the tracks that demand my attention per CD, over and over, and end up forgetting the others (since I have so many CDs), but I would later give the others another chance, letting the CD just play through. I don't know why they took some getting used to, but there are PLENTY of AMAZING tracks on this CD! Most people refer to songs that have a slow tempo as a ballad, but to me a ballad is a song that is not only slow, but also very subdued and quiet. These songs wouldn't fit into that category. On most of these there is a very audible chorus that sings verses throughout a song, and some were written as though they switch back and forth (between Jaci and the chorus). I've never heard pop that is this amazing. It wasn't memorable at first, but "Eres Tan Grande" was a song that you later one day recall, and you have to drop whatever it is that you are doing and give it another listen. Its "concept" finally clicks. Jaci's performance of "A Un Paso De Mi Amor" (I've seen this track on other singer's CDs) is also excellent! She has a very unique voice. Ne'er too high, but definitely with range. She sounds so different when singing low notes and high notes. The low notes have so much power, but the high notes are so soft. BTW I don't speak Spanish at all. No need, though. I love these songs. "Milagro" is also excellent. Such an inspiring sound (I don't know what she's singing about). Last but not least, "Me Valga Dios" has almost a traditional sound to it. No trumpets, but the bass line is the up-down, slow type, yet the melody is so cheerful that it becomes addictive. There are so few CDs that have so many excellent, single-caliber songs like this one!
The best of Jaci's Spanish CDs.......2004-08-05
This by far Jaci's greatest Spanish album and even compared to her english cds this is still one of my favorites.
Milagro & Jaci Velasquez (Self titled) are the best. Her CD unspoken was'nt very good, but this camp out the same year and this was really good. I hope her fall release (Of 2004) will be as good as Milagro! :D
Milgaro: One Of The Best Albums Ever!.......2004-02-02
Wow!!!!! This is one of the most beautiful CDs I have heard in a long time! This is not your typical Latin album that you are hearing, guys. It does have the mix of Spanish guitars, dance, pop, ballads, and tons more. It is a very beautiful collection full of clean, unconditional love, plus some praise and worship of God, among other topics.
Jaci has proven herself again, with a deep maturity to her voice, with a lot of emotive versatility. The songs she picked for this particular album are all so outstanding!
1. "En El Centro De Mi Corazon": This is a great song to introduce the rest of the CD, because it starts out very soft, as an intro, and then...BANG! Jaci hits it again!
2. "No Hace Falta Un Hombre": This is the Spanish hit of her single, "I Don't Need A Man" from the movie, CHASING PAPI. This is a cool song. Jaci wrote both versions.
3. "Milagro": The title track, which is so inspiring, because it reminds me of her hit single "Llegar A Ti" (My all-time favorite song of hers)! Awesome!
4. "Un Trocito De Cielo": A good song to dance to! Good beat, great rhythm!
5. "Perdida Sin Ti": This song is cool, 'cause it has this edgy rock sound to it.
6. "Eres Tan Grande": This song is also neat, because it has sort of an R&B sound, only it has its own thing about it as well.
7. "A Un Paso De Mi Amor": I absolutely LOVE this song!! Her voice is just beautiful on it! I love singing it,'cause it gives me a feeling of knowing God's presence is truly here! The Spanish version of "Just A Prayer Away".
8. "Me Valga Dios": I love the intro music to this song. Jaci sings this song with a delightful emotion!
9. "Es Amor": I love this one as well! It's simple, but very pretty!
10. "A Tu Lado Es Mi Lugar": This is the Spanish version of Jaci's "Where I Belong" from UNSPOKEN. I really like both versions; Jaci co-wrote them as well!
11. "Mi Vida No Es Nada Sin Ti": This is a really beautiful song, co-written by another all-time fave of mine, Gloria Estefan! I believe it's the Spanish version of her hit, "Can't Stay Away From You." Great job, Jaci!
Jaci, you did it again! Congrats, and may your faith in Christ remains undying all your days! Plus your music!!!
Her Best Latin Record so far...& a some surprises.......2003-09-05
I was concerned at how tough a job it would be for Jaci Velasquez to top her last "Mi Corazon", but this cd has some great surprises. It is clear that she has matured since her last projects:
She is not only tackling important emotions but her voice at certain times has incredible bravado ("A un Paso de Tu Amor") which had yet to be experienced as passionately and outstandingly in past projects. These songs seem to showcase her vocal abilities/control better than any other...Her voice knows when to shy way and when to break through. It is evident that she has pushed her voice creatively to new limits. Only one track (Me Valga Dios) seems a bit of a mismatch (in style) but all in all the album is one of the best of the year in latin pop.
She diligently makes it clear that she's many things: vulnerable, strong, questioning, assured...It is a great/brave for a Christian artist these days to express her faith and feel confident enough to reflect on and celebrate love (pure love) in parallel markets.
Must listen to:
* Moving confessional : "A Tu Lado es Mi Lugar"
* Rougher electro-rock texture of "Perdida Sin Ti"
* Soft vulnerability of "Es Amor"
BEST SURPRISE: Last Track: "Mi Vida no es Nada Sin Ti".
This is an INCREDIBLE spanish cover of Gloria Estefan's "Can't Stay Away from You". She holds her own here.
I recommend it! (HIghly)
A fan who expected more of Jaci.......2003-08-28
I know this is Jaci's homeback from a long time of not-doing-any-music, BUT... Let me fill you in with the defects:
-The lyrics are very mundane: I know they were written by great writers (like Emilio Stefan, Estefano and Gloria Stefan) but it?s not the kind of love I would expect Jaci to sing. I mean, the "Take me to the sky", "All this love is making me crazy"; "You make me crazy with those kisses that take me to heaven" (in spanish it doesn?t sound that cute). It just does not sound right... maybe it?s because they went a little bit over with the love subject.
-She has totally opposite ideas in the same CD: First she is sick of boys (I feel the same some days, and those days I sing along with her) but inmediately she is begging for a kiss... in the next 5 musics. Come on.
-Not everything in life is love: I hate to say it, because I have a bf, but come on! More things go on in life than love, boys, kissing, blah blah blah. She can sing about friendship, dreams, achievements, working hard... just a thought
-The lyrics are not included... I get annoyed every time a singer does not put the lyrics into the CD.
-There is not at least one music to dance: she sings great and I love dancing and doing choreographies of her music. But this time she did not do ANYTHING to be danced. :-( sad, sad, sad.
I have to give her credit for other things, though.
-Beautiful voice: as always, but it?s good to know she keeps it. No way of doubting she found grace in God?s presence. An angel and much more!
-Nice photos and new image: congrats on that, Jaci
-Good rythm: the musics have varied ways of starting, if you know what I mean. The rythm they used for each music is good and appropiate, and new!
Conclusion: I will keep loving Jaci, and buying her albums
