Ever since his hit interpretation of "Lady In Red," it's been this reggae singer's calling card to adapt the most sentimental R&B/pop hits over chest-pounding dancehall rhythms. Sanchez opens his latest album (his 15th), with a stunning version of-brace yourself-Britney Spears' "Sometimes." Laugh if you want, but it was one of the best reggae singles to come out last year. He also delivers a danceable cover of Brian McKnight's "Back At One" (also a No. 1 country hit for Mark Wills) and then tackles Donell Jones' "Where I Wanna Be," toning down the Stevie Wonder influences and making it all his own. Continuing with the smooth-R&B theme, he also remakes "(If I Could Turn Back the) Hands of Time," setting R. Kelly's unchained melody over a sweet reggae beat. However, his cover of Gilbert O'Sullivan's "(Alone Again) Naturally" suffers from a less inspired rhythm. The album also features originals by Sanchez's bassist Fitz "Favorite" Livermore, the most moving of which is the soft acoustic version of the title track. -Judson Kilpatrick
