My favorite Libana CD..........2002-07-09

I've been into Libana for over 10 years, and this is by far my favorite, even surpassing "A Circle is Cast." The songs are easy to chant/sing along to and are life/earth affirming, rhythmic and soothing. I particularly am fond of Treeplanter's Round, Con el Viento, Lullaby, Ode to Contentment, Now I Walk in Beauty, and most especially, Be Like a Bird. Even my husband has begun to appreciate Libana through this CD, which is a real breakthrough.

A Little Better Than A Circle Is Cast.......2002-06-05

Just like their other album, it includes songs about the Judeo-Christian Deity. If I wanted that I'd buy one of the countless albums about Jesus! And like A Circle Is Cast the songs are too short and somewhat hard to understand.

To be honest, Libana kind of reminds me of Enya who I'm also not crazy about.

Uplifting, singable music.......2002-03-12

I bought the cassette maybe ten years ago and fell in love. There is a guided meditation, some great circle chants and even a girl scout campfire song! Feminine without being offensively feminist, and somehow delivering the feeling of being very personal. I wish I understood the Spanish: Con El Viento is lovely. Music translates well into other philosophies (some come from other philosophies). Buy it, you'll like it!

I Came to this site just to find this. The Chants in this CD are addictive. I was given this as a gift years ago. My daughter needs music to get up in the morning and has mood disorders: I am getting this CD after knowing its postive effects on my son ten years ago. We also played it alot in the car, it seems to keep the chilren calm and they learn its lyrics which are life/soul focused.This is alot healthier stuff than turning on your local radio station for a child.

Great Album - Not Just For Gospel Lover.......2006-09-07

As a child, this was one of my favorite albums. Can't wait to get the new purchase. It ministers Jesus to you, but it's a great album musically, aside from that. The best of both worlds!

The CD contains four songs, two of them with vocal and two with no vocal of the same songs. One is preformed from You's voice of the Shaman King animathin and one from Ren. The songs are not related with the music from the animation.

This DVD is Region 2. The DVD contains four videos. Two of wich are the begining (Over Soul) and the end titles (Trust You) from the first part of the Shaman King Animation. The other two are videos of the two songs from the Audio CD.

Must have for Shaman King Fans.

Australian Idol.......2006-03-08

What a beautiful voice. One of Australia's finest.
I was living in Sydney during the first Australian Idol season. I had never seen an Idol series before, and never planned on watching it there. But my 3 American flatmates were all huge American Idol fans and so I watched with them on the tiny TV in our livingroom. Paulini was by far the best singer among them. Though she didn't win, and endured the insults of the main judge with grace, I had no doubt she would walk away with an offer from some other studio.

Paulini Determined to Wear Her "Heart" on Her Sleeve.......2005-01-30

Prime Cuts: Where You Are, Angel Eyes, One Determined Heart

Of Fijian descent, 23 year old Australian Paulini Curvenaruli is one of the finalists of Down Under's equivalent of the American Idols. Though she did not bring home the prestigious mantle, Paulini could chortle at her competitors when Sony Australia offered her a recording contract almost immediately after the series ended. "One Determined Heart" is the ensuing product; bearing the spirit of the idol show, save for two originals, this is basically an album of covers. The paraphernalia of songs come from artists as diverse as pop stalwarts such as Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, Bonnie Riatt, the Jacksons, Barbra Stresiand, Donna Summer and TLC to more obscure acts such as Jeff Healey and the Tymes. For those who had not followed the hoopla of the Australian song competition, Paulini has a distinctive soulful flavored vocal a little reminiscent of R&B upstart Monica. Though she does not possess the verve and vocal tenacity of say a Whitney Houston, she is vocally compensated with some silky jazzy vibes with traces of Sade and Chante Moore.

Capitalizing on the lucre brought in by label mate fellow Aussie superstar Delta Goodrem, producer and writer Audius Mtawarira who penned Goodrem's "Born to Fly" is credited for the production chores here. Unlike teen waifs such as Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson who vocally tend to hide behind wailing Lita Ford-like guitar riffs, the production on "One Determined Heart" is understated with the spotlight on Paulini's vocals. This has made listening a little more pleasurable, intimate and heartfelt.

Aficionados of romantic ballads would be floored by the killer ballad "Angel Eyes." An Australian number 2 smash single, "Angel Eyes" first cut by Jeff Healey in 1988, finds Paulini reveling in an ecstatic bewilderment trying to figure out why she was deserving of her paramour's attention. Delivered with a befitting Cinderella-like vulnerability, this is indeed star-making stuff. Though comparisons are inevitable, Paulini's cover of Whitney Houston's "Where You Are" is a little portentous as her delivery of this love hued ballad is nowhere near the proximity of Houston's passionate original. Nevertheless, despite Whitney's meritorious performance it was never released as a single, so here's hoping Paulini's version will get to radio land where this chef-d'oeuvre could once again be luxuriated by the multitudes. Some other noteworthy covers include: Phil Collins' "One More Night" which is given an R&B makeover delivered at faster tempo, while TLC's "Waterfall" is actually quite soulful without the dated La'Face production.

Of the two originals, "We Can Try" written by Audius, takes a recess from the ballads. With a grinding groove, "We Can Try" finds Paulini pleading on restoring a relationship riff. While it is almost mandatory that other "idol" contestants would record "message" songs (such as Diana DeGarmo's "Dreams" and Fantasia's "I Believe") the title track is Paulini's stab at the inspirational genre. "One Determined Heart," boasting some Elton John-esque's piano, is actually quite heartfelt and winsome.

The other covers are by no means offensive, but somehow they do not convey the depths of emotions as the originals. For instance, Paulini's take of Bonnie Riatt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" doesn't capture the desperation of this forlorn anthem. Her take of Streisand/Summer's number 1 "Enough Is Enough" does not possess the disgruntlements of a too-often jilted lover. Instead of being sultry, alluring and sensuous, "Baby I Need Your Loving" sounds tiresome, pedantic and routine.

Overall, "One Determined Heart" finds Paulini determined to wear her heart on her sleeves. But too often, she's being let down by too many cover songs that either do not fit her vocal style or they do not resonate with her realm of experience. Nevertheless, there are enough tracks here to show promise why thousands of Australians have embraced her as one of the most likeable "un-diva" like idol.

Retraction--This is a good gospel album, point blank!.......2003-05-11

Let me take something back that I said, it doesn't really matter if they crown Angie or Beverly Crawford the princess of gospel, it doesn't matter because they're both anointed, exciting, great women of God. I apologize for coming down hard with my previous comments. Please disregard what I said, because it was trivial and divisive. But something I'll shall repeat again--Angela Spivey is a great gospel artist! And the Dorothy Love Coates medley is great, which Angie did on the Stellars this year. It's about time someone really gave the late Dorothy props. And she's a bad choir director too.

Angela Spivey is one of gospel's greatest singers of this time. With her everlasting enery and powerpacked, anointed voice, she is sure to help you get your praise on. On this CD, she simply SHOWS OUT! All of the songs are the bomb. I really love the title song, "Determined", because she let's everybody know without a doubt that she's determined. The song called, "Where are the worshippers" written by Trina Jefferie (Sister Cantaloupe), is magnificent. I play that song over and over again, night and day. I love the Dorothy Love-Coates medley as well. This whole CD is just marvelous. If you want to have some church or have a "PARTY", as Angie says it, this CD is for you!

Great Gospel Singer.......2003-02-03

Angela Spivey is really a great songwriter, vocalist, etc. Her performance on the Stellars this year was awesome! I'm glad to see that she has come a long way in the gospel music industry.

But I have one problem with her: this is not as a put down, but how did she become the "princess of gospel music"? That title was reserved for Beverly Crawford, whom I'm afraid to admit, was copied by Angie. Yes, I hate to say it, but when I see Angie Spivey on stage, I see a lot of Beverly Crawford, and Beverly was really the one who came out with those types of exciting performances and was the consummate artist. As a matter of fact, back in around 1997, Beverly herself gave an exciting rendition of "Jesus Precious King". What gives the gospel industry the right to take her title away from her (especially while she's still alive) and give it to somebody else? It's not right and I heard NOBODY speak up about it. It's like people just are stepping over Beverly Crawford like she's nothing. And she's done A LOT; is on somebody's album at least once a year, wrote, is an actress, even worked over in the CCM. She even got her start on a cable TV show for cryin' out loud. Just because her last album didn't do too well doesn't mean people got to do her like that. Hey, where are her true fans?

Let's be fair.

Otherwise, Angela Spivey is a great artist. But I don't consider her the "princess of gospel".

The Anointed Ministry of Awesome Angela Spivey!.......2003-01-21

I witnessed Angela Spivey for the first time at the GMWA Excellence Awards! She blew me away then with "These Thorns." Her cureent release "Determined" is yet another demonstration of the Powerful "Praise" Princess. Her ministry in song on this project is truly annointed and awesome. Seeing and hearing her live is a soul transforming experience. I was left speechless after her presentation at the stellar awards 2003. She is the consumate gospel artist!

This CD is awesome! From the first cut to the last, Angela Spivey delivers her best performance/ministry yet. The title cut "Determined" shows her ability to push through with a high spirited hand-clapping COGIC-style piece. And right after, she takes us to the throne of God with her heart-rendering praise in the tune "You Have Brought Us". She is well backed by the anointed voices of Min. Prince Yelder & Disciples For Christ and some of her own "Voices" from Chicago. The Choir pushes through with power on songs like "Jesus Saves" and "Your Joy Is Coming"
This project is sure to take the ministry of Angela Spivey to heighs unknown. As a radio personality, I would add any of these tunes to my playlist.

Healing.......2003-06-05

I purchased this album (pre CD's) in the Mid 80's at a time with life was rough and I needed to focus to get through it. The title track - "Determined" became my theme song. I was fortunate enough to run into Ms. Hawkins and thanked her for the music. She shared that during the time she recorded "Determined" she was at a cross roads and felt that God delivered her this music. Need I say more?

Tramaine is one of the most anointed singers in the world. Her style is unique. This album has changed my life. I enjoyed it when I was young and I still enjoy it. She has a way of reaching the young and old with her singing. Tramaine is a terrific singer and I give her album 5 stars. Just listen and it will change your life for the better.
