The Nu Nation Project

Editorial Reviews

For a man who puts his trust in God, Kirk Franklin certainly seems defensive on the opening "interlude" of Nu Nation Project, which depicts criticism of his controversial hip-hop-tinged gospel as a court trial complete with urgent reporters outside the courthouse. The message, fortunately, quickly moves from Franklin's own problems to those of the world--which, notably, the star refuses to ignore while praising Jesus' name. Whether the Almighty is really impressed by the It's Showtime at the Apollo!-ready oversinging and clichéd R&B production is another question, but if you are, The Nu Nation Project is another helping of what's made Franklin a platinum seller. --Rickey Wright --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

"The Verdict," the introduction to The Nu Nation Project, clearly suggests success has wedged Kirk Franklin tightly between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, last year's multi-format mega-hit "Stomp" revived hopes that in-your-face Christian music can find a place on the general market charts and make inroads to urban radio. On the other hand, Franklin was accused of spiritual compromise and getting "too close to the world" by forging partnerships with general market artists. 3 out of 5 stars A little disappointed.......2006-08-31

The CD, while being typical Kirk Franklin (great), was a little disappointing. The song called "Stomp" on the CD is not the "Stomp" from the radio that is so popular. The way its titled on the CD is confusing. That was the song I was looking for, and unfortunately the only song I knew on the CD. So now I have a CD that I didn't want and I have to buy the CD with the correct song. Money wasted - Bummer man!

5 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC.......2005-10-07

THIS ALBUM BY KIRK FRANKLIN IS THE BEST HE HAS EVER MADE. THIS ABLUM BLESSES ME EVERYTIME THAT I HEARD IT. ALL OF THE SONGS ARE AWESOME. IT WILL MAKE YOU SHOUT BECAUSE THEY ARE ON FIRE FOR THE LORD AND THAT IS A GOOD THING. KIRK FRANKLIN IS THE BEST IN THE WHOLE WORLD AND THIS ALBUM IS THE HIS BEST ONE. SMILE AGAIN IS THE BEST SONG ON THIS WHOLE ALBUM. IT WILL MINISTER TO YOUR SOUL AND TO YOUR HEART AND IT WILL BLESS YOU. IF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH SOMETHINGS THEN YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS SONG. KIRK NEEDS TO MAKE MORE SONGS LIKE THESE. ANYWAYS THIS ALBUM IS AWESOME. YOU ARE GETTING YOUR MONEYS WORTH.

5 out of 5 stars How inspirational!.......2005-09-01

During this time I was very involved in church and loved these songs by Kirk Franklin. It kept me from running the streets and getting into SO much trouble.
Kirk and Nu NAtion went up to another level with this disc. The anointing was definitely on them from GOD. This CD touched so many saints and sinners alike. It is an ultimate testimony.
Revolution,Riverside, and If you've been delivered are stand up and dance/shout joints.
Meanwhile Hold me NOw, Lean On me, and Jesus You are still keep me spellbound. I can relate to these three songs very well.
There isn't any song here that I don't like or still know the words in exact memory.
Favs: Hold me nOw, Jesus You Are, My Desire, Riverside, He loves me, and Something about the name.
Kirk and Nu Nation created a certified gospel classic!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Album.......2005-03-25

Kirk Franklin is one of the most influencial artists in gospel and contemporary christian music and is probably the most influncial artist of the late 90's/ early 00's. He infuses R&B, funk, traditional gospel, hip hop, and pop music in truly innovative way. He has been criticized and judged for being revolutionary, for not keeping God in a religious box. This album is the best response to this critics, he brings forth and album bringing traditional gospel artists (Donnie McClurkin, God's Property and Fred Hammond) with contemporary christian artists (Crystal Lewis) and Pop and R&B artists (Bono of U2, Mary J. Blige, and R. Kelly)for a truly revolutionary album. He blends old and new and never loses his sense of humor or lowers his standards. If more gospel music sounded like this, more people of all ethnic groups would listen to it. He brings gospel music to non-religious people. His next album is more humble but none of his albums are better.

5 out of 5 stars Praise GOD, I love this cd!!.......2004-12-13

When this cd first came out, I was all over it! The Lord moved through Kirk on this one. Lean on Me was a big hit, both gospel and secular, but it is definitely not the best song on the album.

5 out of 5 stars Reprocussions in hell? Don't think so........2006-07-15

This was the first "Christian" CD that I ever purchased, and as a result, my walk with God grew from non-existent to electrifying within a small period of time. Kirk's testimony is one that is not always enunciated, but you can feel its presence. His ability to be a Christian without shoving Christianity down your throat is unbelievable, and takes it to another level by still welcoming you into the faith. As a musician, I think that these songs are incredible and inspiring. Where to begin? "Smile Again" always gives me chills, as does "He Loves Me", "Hold Me Now" and "Lean on Me", and I can jam to "Lovely Day", "Riverside", "Blessing in the Storm", "My Desire" and "Revolution" still to this day, and I've had this CD for over six years.

Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks on the heart. Not only do we not possess the right to judge Kirk Franklin, furthermore we do not possess the ABILITY to. All we can do is judge the outward appearance, but his heart can only be judged by God. And for this man, if his music is any indication of his heart, then praise God.

5 out of 5 stars QUIT YA WININ.......2005-12-15

ok yall this is what i got to say. QUIT HATIN ON KIRK JUST BC HE DOES WHAT HE DOES. YES IT IS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT HE STARTED OFF DOING(which was also good, he's always been a good artist) NO ITS NOT AMAZING GRACE. but still cmon why he gotta be a sell out? whats up with he'll be paying for this in hell? well if you actually paid attention to the words of his lyrics you would know that it is gospel. I've always been a fan of kirk, even when he started otu with the family, gods property and 1NC was good to. I like that he does this type of music. He's trying to reach out to youth and show them that worshiping god can be fun too. maybe yall just to stupid to see it yall religious bigots. yall shoudla known what yall were getting when yall got the album. i aint gonna lie id still jam any album he made today. this album was awsome. i especially like lean on me, something about the name jesus, hold me now, you are, and smile again. they tracks are all good but those listed are especially good. hip sound. positive message. what more could you ask for?

5 out of 5 stars How could you say NO to this project?!.......2005-08-04

I read a review on here that said Kirk Franklin was an unsaved heathen after the money. You DEMON in HELL, how dare you! How can you put your mouth on the messanger of GOD! Many people think Kirk is just a hip-hopper, but I think not. Tell me, who wrote Silver and Gold, Where the Spirit is, and love. All those worship songz! Those songz touch me in a way a person like you could never do. Kirk Franklin is an anointed man of God, you just don't like him cauz you're 150 years old and he not singing Amazing Grace!! The bible says touch not my anointed!! May God have mercy on your soul. But anyway, to the righteous viewers. This is an out standing CD! It'll make you wanna get up and dance and cry at the same time! Please don't be quick to judge. This CD is worth every cent. You will be glad you did. And to that ignorant person who wrote that stupid review, all I got to say is Jesus loves you and you need to get SAVED! And I bet not catch you reviewing Tonex stuff!!!

1 out of 5 stars What a heathen, backsliding sell out.......2005-04-08

Kirk Franklin is a joke, and he will certainly be paying for it in hell. Nu Nation may be a collection of heathen artists that certainly can sing and make (heathen) music, but one of the earlier reviewers is right, there's something VERY not right with him. He's a joke to the Almighty, as are those who have given him such positive reviews on this site and elsewhere, and when the rapture hits, trust me, Kirk will still be here trying to go platinum again. That said, if you're just into a good variety of African-American music types and don't mind the fact that he's not really about God, but indeed himself (and selling you this album) then you have a winner on your hand in this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Just Buy It!.......2004-05-02

If you do not have the CD then you're missing something extraordinary. If you ain't got it then get up, sign off and go to the store and cop it. All the haters stop hatin and just show them some love. It was amazing. Lean on ME, You are and Something about the Name are ridiculously amazing tracks. Also the one with Fred Hammond and Donnie McLurkin. Anyway I ain't gon bore you to death just go buy the CD
