Buddy Greene & Friends/LIVE [Live]
Editorial Reviews
About the Artist
Buddy Greene is a marvelous combination of many things: singer, poet/songwriter,philosopher, guitarist/entertainer and harmonica virtuoso. Musically, he's a product of his early folk music roots, the Beatles, Motown, Southern Rock, country and bluegrass. After years performing in bar bands in Georgia and The Carolinas, he moved to Nashville after becoming the front man for the Jerry Reed Band. He progressed as a sudio musician and songwriter. In 1987, He left Jerry Reed to devote his full energies to the music ministry..singing, writing and playing to the Glory of God BAND_MEMBERS: Produced by Buddy Greene & Don Potter Executive Producer; Bob Mac Kenzie

Album Description
It was a great night. The place was full and everybody seened ready for something special to happen. The occaision - Buddy Greene's first live recording. The musicians on hand were some of Nashville's finest. Holding us together on drums was Kenny Malone, the ultimate groove-master. He was assisted on percussion by Eric Darken. Craig Nelson played bass- the ideal man for this eclectic repertoire. Filling out the rhythm section was one of my old cohorts from our Jerry Reed Band days, Bob Patin on piano and keys. My good friend and often traveling companion, Dave Dillard, played mandolin and mandola and Randy Howard, an old friend from Georgia came through with some nice fiddle work. In addition to this core group, a number of very special, very talented musicians showed up for cameo roles. Bruce Carroll helped on a song called "Brother Of Mine." Bev Darnall, Lisa Glasgow and Donna McElroy helped raise the roof on :"God Is With Us." My best friend from Georgia-my former musical partner Roy Finch joined me on a couple of crowd-pleasing instrumental tunes. Roy practices law these days but, as evidenced here, has not forgotten how to pick! Tricia Walker broughr her smooth style and grace to a very pleasant respite in the evening - "Moon River." Toward the end Mark Douthit added his beautiful, inspired soprano sax to several numbers. Throughout the whole project, God provided an anchor for me to cling to - my good buddy and brother in the Lord, Don Potter. His brilliant, sensitive guitar work adorns every song and arrangement and, as co-producer , was involved throughout the project.
And me? What was I doing while all of this talent and inspiration surrounded me? I was having a great time!!!

Customer Reviews:
Pure beauty.......2005-09-06
Ever since Charlotte Church turned into a tabloids' darling and a wannabe pop star, there's been a gap opened for a young, sweet-faced soprano. The best bet on filling it seems to be Hayley Westenra, a young singer/dancer from New Zealand.
The result: "Pure," an album that is reminiscent of early Sarah Brightman, back when she did folk songs and showtunes. Westenra sticks close to her classical sound with songs like the delicate "In Trutina" and the traditional New Zealand song "Pokarekare Ana," which is rendered with the backing of a a rather muddled male chorus and some swelling strings.
However, Westenra doesn't neglect more modern songs, and she does well in classical pop as well as straightforward classical. The big difference seems to be a bit of synth and a delicate guitar melody, in songs like the charming "Beat of Your Heart" and dreamy "Why Painted the Moon Black?" It's a smooth, thoroughly sweet crossover effect.
Westenra also eschews the usual round of classical-pop songs, like "Nella Fantasia." I love that song, but it's been done so many times. Instead, she opts for Maori lullabies, Vivaldi ballads, the neglected "Mummer's Dance" and the orchestral cathedral grandeur of "Benedictus." She even covers Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights," adding a modern feel to the finale.
That is not to say that every choice is an excellent one. "Wuthering Heights" has Westenra trying to sound more Bush-ian, while "Amazing Grace" is too simple vocally. Aside from those, her choices of song are excellent -- rich, uplifting and beautiful, and backed by a wide range of orchestral musicians, especially the strings.
There is also an accompanying EP, in which Westenra covers four Christmas ballads, and does them all justice. Her vocals are well suited to the dignified lyrics of songs like "The Mummer's Dance" and "Silent Night," although a bit less for the still-lovely "Mary Did You Know" and "Away in a Manger."
Her vocals themselves are not operatic, but they are strong, clear and sweet, without pretensions or dramatic flourishes. The effect is stunning, more given to magic and sweetness than to keeping to classical standards. Since this was recorded when Westenra was only sixteen, one wonders how good she'll be in ten years.
Despite comparisons to Charlotte Church, Hayley Westenra is more like Sarah Brightman -- a sweet-voiced singer, straddling the fence between classical and pop. An enchanting experience.
WHAT A GIFT!.......2004-12-20
I RECEIVED THESE 2 CDS AS A GIFT AND I LISTEN TO THEM FREQUENTLY. HER PERFORMANCE WITH RUSSELL WATSON (ON DVD)ON HIS TOUR IS WONDERFUL. I CAN'T WAIT FOR A NEW ALBUM. WOULD LIKE TO GET HER NEW SONG, BRIDAL BALLAD, FROM THE SOUNDTRACK OF THE MERCHANT OF VENICE
Incredible voice - Incredible CD.......2004-04-29
I recently saw Hayley on TV and had to immediately buy this CD. Her voice is so clear and pure, and her songs are filled with lyrical emotion.
It is an absolutely incredible CD that any music lover should have in their collection. My favorite song is Wuthering Heights.
The Best.......2004-04-27
Her album is the best, voice of an angel.......you can totally relakes to her music.
Charlotte is NO match..........2003-12-15
Hayley is just phenomenal. There is no doubt that she surpasses every other female artist in her genre. This CD is astonishing. My two favorite songs are "Heaven" and "Wuthering Heights". The first Hayley Westenra song I ever heard was "Heaven". It would not be the last. Her voice is like that of an angel. She has a smooth, serene sound, and she has an incredible range. If you want a more classical sound, you want her. It's not that gaudy stuff that people generally think of. This stuff has a beat... and it's not pumping with bass. If you're a fan of Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, Charlotte Church, or Mario Frangoulis... try Hayley Westenra, you won't regret it. I just can't wait 'til she comes to the states... that'll be a good day. She has a few Italian songs, but she's not heavy on the foreign stuff like some of the other artists of Opera / Classical. She's got a wonderful voice for a little girl... I'm a huge fan, Hayley! You roped me in, in about 2 minutes time!

Christmas With the Von Trapp Children.......2007-01-10
These kids sing like angels! I am so glad I purchased this CD for my holiday collection.Great price also!
WOW - one of the best !!!.......2006-11-08
What a great album - fun arrangements, beautiful harmonies. This is one of the best Christmas albums I have heard or bought in a long time. "Gloria" will be one of my favorite tracks from now on. This album is all I expected and more. If you love Christmas music then you need this album.
Moving.......2006-09-23
I have been a progressive Hard rock heavy metal singer for over 19 years. I am a lover of harmonies no matter what instrument is doing them. I first heard this album (specifically the song African Gloria) while browsing in Yankee Candle's "Black forest" room. I was moved by that song and I still am when I hear the clip now. I immediately ordered it. What I can say is that these kids are not doing any easy tasks...I am a singer and I know what it takes to get the harmonies and dynamics what they are. I give them 2 thumbs up and urge them to always continue. Childrens choirs are wonderful and in my opinion spark a Holy part of us. 5 stars!
This cd is simply PERFECT!.......2005-12-13
My husband and I opened this cd and played it for the first time tonight. It was like hearing a choir of angels. I am dead serious when I say that I have NEVER heard voices as beautiful as the Von Trapp children. I have just orded two more of their cd's, and I intend to order everything they record. DO NOT miss this one. It is an absolute gem!

Customer Reviews:
"Golden Throats" Goes Country.......2006-08-11
Certain artists never should sing country music. Louis Armstrong and Carol Channing come to mind. On the other hand, there are many noted performers who simply should not sing -- regardless of genre. Leonard Nimoy, Goldie Hawn and Jack Palance remain standouts in this particular category. If you want celebrity vocal prowess, look no further than "Golden Throats 3: Sweet Hearts of Rodeo Drive." Along with these aforementioned entertainers, you get mind-boggling rarities such as Merv Griffin's "Tumbling Tumbleweeds," Telly Savalas' "I Walk the Line" and Lorne Greene's French interpretation of "Ringo." Order now -- operators are standing by!
Great songs.......2005-09-14
If you like something a little different you will like this. Worth the price for Slim Pickens alone (Desperados Waiting for a Train).
Celebrities sing classic country!.......2003-07-07
The Golden Throats series continues with celebrities singing some truly bad versions of country songs. If you are like me, you find this sort of thing hilarious. I'd like to mention a few of the "highlights". "Hey, Good Looking" is performed here by John Davidson, who makes Pat Boone sound soulful. In one of the most misguided ideas ever, Merv Griffin sings a "twist" version of "Tumbling Tumbleweeds". Broadway legend Carol Channing & country music legend Webb Pierce team up for one of the most unlikely duets of all time. And you get two versions of "I Walk the Line". Whose is worse, Leonard Nimoy's or Telly Savalas's? It's close, but Kojak beats Spock by a nose (or a lollipop). If you like the other Golden Throats volumes, you should enjoy this, especially if you have an interest in country music.
not as good as the previous two, but entertaining.......2003-06-21
this, the third cd in the golden throats series, doesnt measure up to the inspired lunacy of the first two. its not the choice of material or the limits of using only mangled country music, its just that nothing on here matches the sebastian cabot/william shatner/sammy davis cuts of vols. 1 & 2. theres still plenty to enjoy here, if yer into that kind of thing. the hip swingin take on "hey good lookin" by john davidson which makes the rounds during martini hour at my house, the appalling attempt by louis armstrong to bray "almost persuaded" as if its from porgy & bess, the BAFFLING choice to use lorne greenes FRENCH version of "ringo", & walter brennan literally sounding like he's about to keel over in desperation for "cool water" are all phenomenally awe inspiring. one of my personal favorites is everyones favorite bomb riding yahoo, slim pickens, "interpretation" of "desperados waiting on a train", sounding like he got to the studio after a 2 week bender & handed the lyric sheet. when he cuts loose at the end with actual SINGING, your jaw will be scraping the floor. in a nutshell, (or more approriately, in an outhouse), if you love the first 2 golden throats, you'll like this, but its not essential.
Not really worth the money.......2002-08-15
Country music, good or bad, leaves me cold - the standout performances in this gawdawful compilation are Buddy Ebsen warbling through classic Hank Williams (Your Cheating Heart) and Lorne Greene's alien-sounding "French" version of Ringo. I am French myself, and I can tell you he speaks it with a truly unusual accent. The Wink Martindale number is a specially nauseating brand of treacle that should be avoided at all costs.
I special-ordered the item to have all three Golden Throats compilations, but would not do so again...

Great Christmas Companion.......2007-01-19
I originally bought this item because I love the song "Mary Did You Know?" Natalie Cole's voice only made it that much more enjoyable. The best surprise on the CD was a duet with her father. I really love the sound of their two voices together.
A Natalie Cole Christmas.......2006-11-06
I enjoyed Ms. Cole's CD. I have always listened to her father's CD during the holidays and now I can listen to hers too. It was quite enjoyable.
Classy performance from a Classy woman.......2005-12-02
Natalie Cole is a beautiful person and I've long admired her musical work. This Christmas album is no exception. Her silky but strong voice really serves her and us well in songs like "My Grown-Up Christmas List", "Sweet Little Jesus Boy", and "The Christmas Song" which she, thanks to modern technology, sings with her father Nat King Cole. While I don't usually don't care for the jazzed up or modernized versions of traditional Christmas songs I have to admit that Natalie really turned out a nice piece of work with her upbeat version of "Sleigh Ride".
The London Symphony Orchestra really compliments Natalie's voice. Songs like "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Christmas Waltz" are two songs in which the Symphony stands out.
Lastly, Natalie Cole has selected songs that focus on the actual Christmas story and or on the spirit of good well that are part of the birth of Christ. She hasn't tried to reinvent any of these songs or alter the arrangement to the point that they are no longer recognizable. She has used her talent to provide listeners with beautiful vocalizations of these Christmas songs and the London Symphony Orchestra for the beautiful arrangements, music and background vocals.
Natalie may not be Nat , but she is certainly VERY GOOD!.......1999-12-11
This album is softer, more mellow then her best-selling "Holly and Ivy." With the strong support of the London Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Cole shows several facets of herself as a singer. Natalie can be attacked, for lacking the edge, the individuality that any singer (ecspecially a "Jazz Singer") needs to set themselves apart from the others. Yet one can not deny that Ms. Cole has a very strong musical ear, a solid voice, and a warmth that is all her own! Yet Ms. Cole is not a "Jazz Singer," she would be best described as a "Pop/Jazz Singer." The Magic of Christmas is certainly a Pop/Jazz album. Her voice is soft like silk, and yet earthy-strong and soaring! She is gifted. Natalie not only listened to music as a child, she absorbed the music of her father, Louie, Ella, Aretha, etc.. into the fabric of who she is. Would I like Natalie to be more authentic, less pleasing and sweet, less perfect, a "JAZZ SINGER." Well, sure! I am a huge jazz vocal fan. Yet is that who she is? Can she sing a song like Sarah or Carmen? Perhaps not. Perhaps as she gets older, and is truly satisfied with her POPular success she will do less "MOR" music..perhaps not. All I know is, her holiday album is filled with great singing, excellent musicians and arrangers. It is a mellow Natalie, bringing in the holdiays with such class that even Nat himself would be proud of. The critic above is correct, Natalie has added yet another piece to the greatness of the Cole legacy. A legacy that both father and daughter share. Lets remember...Natalie has survived in the industry since the year of my bith-1975. That is close to 25 years folks, I am sorry, but her father didn't make that happen. Natalie a great many of her supporters made that happen.
Magical.......1999-12-07
Once again, Ms. Cole displays class and sophistication on her new Christmas album. Nobody can do to a song what this lady does. I have said it before and I will say it again. Natalie is in a class all by herself. Her voice is so clear, so sweet, so strong. What else is there to say. A great voice with great musicians, how can you go wrong.

About The Project
Buddy Greene's song, "Grace For The Moment" ,has struck a powerful, responsive chord in the lives of people struggling with a variety of personal challenges and difficulties in their lives. This response challenged singer/songwriter/harmonica virtuoso Buddy Greene and author/speaker/radio-TV host/theologian Dr. Steve Brown to create "Grace For The Moment", a unique combination of music and teaching ministry to help people, in an easily accessible, immediate way, to be encouraged that the grace of God is a real, tangible force available to the child of God for encouragement, affirmation and power to face the challenges of life.

Album Description
Buddy Greenes 1996 studio recording Minstrel Of The Lord is his first since the 1991 Gospel Music Association Dove Award-winning Country Album Of The Year Sojourners Song.Buddy assembled a stellar cast of Nashvilles most renowned acoustic players and entrusted the producing chore to multi-Grammy Award winning Jerry Douglas, the worlds premiere dobro virtuoso. The band included super-pickers Don Potter and Russ Barenbeg, brilliant bassists Craig Nelson and Danny OLannerghty, The Tony Rice Units extraordinary mandolin / fiddle player Ricky Simpkins and fabled drummer Kenny Malone. John Darnall arranged, produced and performed on several tunes. The singers are equally as special: magnificent, intimate beauty from Kelly Willard, the powerful street edge of Ashley Cleveland, the infectious impact of Julie Miller, the familiar, haunting beauty of the Whites Sharon Skaggs and Cheryl White, and the down-home authenticity of The Nashville Bluegrass Bands Alan OBryant. They beautifully compliment Buddy Greenes compelling vocals. The project was engineered by the Grammy Award winning engineer of major projects including Mark OConnor, Allison Krause and Doc Watson, Bill VornDick.
Buddy Greene is a song writer of rare insight and an artist with great talent, musicallity and integrity. Minstrel Of The Lord is a landmark achievement for one of musics most beloved artist...to the Glory of God.
