Rebecca St. James

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
This self-titled 1994 release introduced a then-17-year-old St. James to the world. What's so interesting about this album is just how uninteresting it really is. Listen to later releases God and Pray, and you'll wonder if this is even the same artist. Then again, this sure beats Debbie Gibson or Tiffany at 17. Clearly, songs like "Here I Am," "Way Up Here," and "Above All Things" are driven by the clean, slick production of Christian master-producer Brown Bannister. If nothing else, this album sounds like a young St. James being groomed as the next Amy Grant. Listen to the chorus to "Way Up Here" and ask yourself whether it doesn't sound like Grant's "I Have Decided." No matter--we all have to start somewhere. --Michael Lyttle --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

5 out of 5 stars You Can't Beat the Bonus DVD that comes with this Live CD! St. Rebecca JAMS!.......2007-06-12

Rebecca St. James aLIVE IN FLORIDA is a GREAT BARGAIN BUY for a brand new CD! You get a whole CD full of live music, and then the bonus DVD shows you the same songs on a DVD, so you get to witness the concert yourself, on you own TV, all for the price of a single CD! If you like the music of Rebecca St. James, then there is no way that you can go wrong with buying this CD/DVD!

The music is LOUD guitar rock underpinned with kinetic keyboards, while Rebecca's two younger brothers provide back up vocals, and Rebecca runs the whole show with her great vocals and Christian lyrics.

The CD and DVD are nearly identical, but not exactly. The CD has one extra song, "Lion," which is not on the DVD, while the DVD includes many minutes of Rebecca talking and introducing different songs, and even promoting Compassion International, the Christian charity for children of the world.

The live video on the DVD is very flashy and professional! It really looks like something as loud and rowdy as could be expected from a secular rock group. The DVD show reminds me of U2's ZooTV era concerts of the 1990's, or R.E.M.'s TOURFILM concert from around 1990. I don't mean that Rebecca's concert is old fashioned, but rather that nobody has really gone beyond U2 or R.E.M.'s flashy concert presentations ever since, and Rebecca's crew make her concert seem just as state-of-the-art polished as anything else out there! This live show on DVD is so cool looking that I am even more impressed with the show biz expertise of Rebecca St. James after seeing the DVD, and I already thought of her as the best Christian singer around, before I saw this DVD.

Most of the songs come from her album, IF I HAD ONE CHANCE TO TELL YOU SOMETHING, from 2005. The two oldest songs, "Wait for Me," and "Reborn" come from her electronica/techno drenched album TRANSFORM, from 2000. The two other songs are from her LIVE WORSHIP album of 2004 (which this aLIVE IN FLORIDA easily surpasses in enjoyability), and from WORSHIP GOD from 2002.

The one thing I did miss was the inclusion of a few of her really LOUD songs from the 1990s, like "God," and many others, from her very memorable CDs, GOD and PRAY. Maybe she will bring back some of those great, older songs on future tours, I hope!

This DVD could have easily been sold separately, so this CD/DVD package cannot be beat for price value, and, most imporantly, entertainment value with the strongest Christian message of any other Christian rock bands around today!

5 out of 5 stars The Very Best of Christian Music.......2007-05-30

I've seen Rebecca St. James twice in concert and have loved her music and ministry. This cd and dvd bring it home with the spirit and energy of the live concert.

The songs include praise and worship songs and songs about relationships (the kind you want your family to hear) and "Lion" that refers to Aslan from the Narnia series (a favorite of my young daughter.)

I think Rebecca's music here will satisfy the tastes of any who appreciate up-tempo music with Christian lyrics. These songs are as good as any you would hear in today's pop culture and the lyrics are full of positive messages.

We have also enjoyed watching the dvd and listening to it at home. The songs are great for the ipod and the car.

4 out of 5 stars Thank God for Rebecca.......2007-05-28

It's great finally see Rebecca in live...well at least in DVD live. The DVD is great because it shows Rebecca's live show as good as you were in there seeing her. There's also "preaching" about "Beatiful Stranger" which means people in poor countries who have not enough money to eat or about women who have many children and no husband at all. This is not just a live DVD...it's about telling people that there's somewhere other people who live poorly, and we can help them. Like Jesus said "The poor will be with you always..."...But still...although we cannot remove all the poorness away ... we can help many people!

The DVD and CD are great! At first seems that the sound effects are not so good but "Lamb of God" is great! It's great to hear and see "Wait for Me" (Rebecca tells also about "waiting for the future husband" - not onlt for girls but also for men "to wait their future wifes". It's great to hear a rocking version of "Reborn"...this version should everybody have!

Although DVD and CD are full of good material, I still would have hoped that there would have been songs from "God", "Pray", as well as the debut. I really enjoyed the acoustic live version of "You Are Loved" (rebecca tells a story of this song too). There's also a song in which Rebecca doesn't sing at all - "Without Love" which is performed by her brothers Joel and Luke. The new song "Lion" is only in CD but not DVD. Well, it's a great song still - and I hope it will be in Rebecca's forthcoming album.

Stars: Reborn, Wait for Me, Lamb of God, Alive

5 out of 5 stars Rebecca comes aLive in this rich double header.......2007-04-16

Performed in Ft. Myers Florida, Rebecca's latest offering is a CD/DVD combo - the DVD being a live concert of her performing almost the same roster as the CD. You'll get her Compassion International talk and her natural engagement of the audience on the DVD. Watching the DVD is just like being at one of Rebecca's concerts, complete with her personal vignettes about things like kangaroos in her backyard in Australia and what she's learned from the Swiss Alps. The colorful light show and close ups make it real. The DVD also features two music videos, "Forgive Me" and "God Help Me", plus another shorter Compassion International plug.

Rebecca brings a lot of variety to the project, with brothers Joel and Luke helping out with the vocals on many cuts. If there is a theme, it could be true love songs, both sung for a certain someone (an old school friend or her future husband) as Rebecca croons about her doubts and devotion, and also her true love for her Savior. aLIVE in Florida has a worshipful feel, with Rebecca reminding us to give our all, our everything, to God.

The CD adds a bonus track - a funky, techno remix version of the earlier performed acoustic "You Are Loved". This one really rocks. In fact, Rebecca's sound seems to have grown more rocky and less Brittney. Her voice flows from a more nasal tone in the jazzy anthem "Wait For Me" to clear and pure. Her pitch is close to perfect throughout.

With the CD produced by Joel, and the executive producer being father David, the project is a true family affair, with sister Libby singing BGVs on "Blessed Be Your Name" as well. Rebecca takes a step back from the spotlight letting her brothers Joel and Luke perform their song "Without Love" from their as yet to be released CD. You'll find it on both the CD and DVD.

Rebecca comes aLive in this rich double header. The CD alone would be a great deal, but add the DVD and you've got a real winner.

5 out of 5 stars will the real "Very Best of RSJ" please stand up?.......2007-04-12

I have only been a RSJ fan since her Transform album and don't really like her stuff before that, so I think the collection of songs on this album is a perfect collection of some of her best songs as of late. There are of course a few songs not anywhere else. There is a song sung solely by her brothers, a remix of the studio version "You Are Loved" and the song "Lion" which isn't really that good in my opinion but you can't get it anywhere else unless you buy one of the Narnia soundtracks. I bought it mainly for the DVD because I live in Alaska, and we don't get as many performers as the lower 48, although I've already seen RSJ live in concert twice. She has as pure and giving heart in person as she does on the DVD. That is one thing I loved about the DVD. She had a very moving, specific, alter call instead of just some incantational predicable prayer. RSJ truly wants to glorify God and bring ppl to Jesus and she is not the type of person to get the crowd hyped up just over her presence. She is truly a great worshipper, a great performer and the DVD is edited very well. I don't know if they had to do any post editing but the sound mix is great; and if you have surround sound, watch the DVD in surround sound. It is amazing and makes use of all the speakers and the subwoofer, so it's truly an experience. This is a great collection of songs, and truly a quality mix and production. I'd suggest this for die hard fans to newcomers.

From the early days of her career when an energetic teen-aged Rebecca St. James burst on the Christian music market, she defied conventional wisdom. The voice was unlike any other, the music sported styles from classical to 80's new wave to techno-pop, and the net effect was like a breath of fresh air to casual listeners and fans alike. After a worship- focused release and extensive touring, this likeable Aussie is back with her best effort to date: If I Had One Chance To Tell You Something. The overall mood is transparent, open, and a revealing set of songs that chronicle the highs and lows of a woman embracing her faith. "God Help Me" is a great starter, a dark and smoldering rocker with a sense of urgency and RSJ sings "I'm running out of time to live/Running out of love to give/Running out of life within/God help me." "Shadowlands" and "Alive" also are lively, rock-tinged tracks showing she has plenty of spunk left. Ms. St. James also shifts gears smoothly to a more reflective, quieter mood on "I Need You" and "Forgive Me," the latter featuring nice supporting vocals from Barlowgirl. Another highlight is the magnificent worship cover of Hillsong United's "Take All Of Me" as RSJ's powerful vocals soar like an eagle above the richly orchestrated music. The diversity that flavors this release is noteworthy, but don't call Ms. St. James a chameleon. A chameleon changes its colors to suit the environment. No, this is an artist who wears a coat of many colors and on If I Had those colors shine brighter than ever before. --Michael Lyttle

Rebecca's best CD yet!! She has great variety with her songs. Great songwriting, great sound. Absolutely amazing - one of my favorite CDs.

5 out of 5 stars You Can Trust Her Music.......2007-01-22

I have to say that Rebecca St. James has a good carriere. She has done two classic albums before - "God" and "Transform", and now - this album. The music in this album is perfect for me. This is even rockier than "God", which is great! Rebecca hasn't copied her earlier albums - she has always surprised with a new stuff! However, it is important that she hasn't given up the Christian message. There's only few Christian artist who sing in English which I like - The Benjamin Gate, Stryper, Trouble, Superchick, and Rebecca!!! The opening track of this album "God Help Me" is superb! It is pure rock!!! The next songs continue the same good line and the album title is sung in "You Are Loved". "Shadowlands" was at first a song I skipped but now I've noticed that actually it's quite a good song. It is much different from other songs, much more peaceful. "Love Being Loved by You" and "I Need You" are killer tracks too! "I Can Trust You" haven't opened for me yet but I'm sure that I will like it if I listened to it many times. "Thank You" is a great song, too! "Take All of Me" is a great song about losing yourself to God! "Lest I Forget" is a perfect song to finish this album. It's quite long and very peaceful but it has excellent lyrics - like this whole album has.

4 out of 5 stars It Is Well..........2007-01-31

Rebecca's album "Transform" was very good but I'm glad to notice that this isn't a copy of that. The music is actually a little bit more like in "God" but not exactly. This is great rock, and I have to say that many songs are now my favourites although I didn't like them at first, for example "Let the Words Be Few", "God of Wonders", and "Quiet With My Love". Of course, there's four songs I liked while listening to them at first time: "Song of Love", "Breathe", "Lamb of God", and "Is It Well". The only songs that haven't convinced me are "More Than the Watchmen" and "You". The lyrics are like gospel lyrics, maybe a little bit more God-worshiping than earlier ones.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2006-04-18

This worship album by Rebecca St. James is terrific.

From beginning to end, it is a sonic delight of praise for the Creator of the Universe. Although some of the songs have been done, and done very well, by others, the overall album is excellent.

Rebecca's voice is superb and the song collection on this album cannot be topped.

Do yourself a favor and buy this great album.

5 out of 5 stars Easily her best to date!.......2006-02-27

i didn't like every song, but she gets 5 stars because she is easily the most inspired, contemporary Gospel artist out there. Most of her songs i can listen to over and over and over...then i'm always drenched in tears.
God bless you Sister Rebecca.

5 out of 5 stars All of God, None of Rebecca!.......2005-12-20

This album is awesome! The music fills my soul with joy! Here's how I rate the songs:

1. LET MY WORDS BE FEW. 4.5/5. This song is very good, but not my favorite. A very good worship song. Simple and worshipful.

2. SONG OF LOVE. 4/5. This song is okay, but since its a hit I've heard like a bagillion times! (Kinda boring, ya know what I mean?)

3. BREATHE. 4.5/5. Very good but kind've like "Song of Love" can get boring.

4. GOD OF WONDERS. 5/5. This is the reason I bought this album. WOW!

5. LAMB OF GOD. 5/5. Awesome! I love the rock!

6. ABOVE ALL. 5/5. One of the most beautiful worship songs ever written! Rebecca does an awesome job on it!

7. BETTER IS ONE DAY. 4/5. Good song, but can get boring.

8. QUIET YOU W/ MY LOVE. 5/5. I love this song. The live version is very good too (see LIVE WORSHIP: BLESSED BE YOUR NAME)!

9. MORE THAN THE WATCHMEN. 3/5. This is my least favorite. She just kinda says the same thing over and over again.

10. IT IS WELL (W/ MY SOUL). 5/5. All I can Say Is..."OH MY GOSH!"

11. YOU. 5/5. This is the best song on the album! Great!

12. OMEGA PSI PHI REMIX. This is the best version of Omega ever! Better the the Radio Remix and way better than the original!

I hope this review helped!

4 out of 5 stars Very good.......2004-07-26

This CD waz very good except that I think Rebecca does better at rock/pop thant praise. Don't get me wrong she did a great job but I know most of the songs and I got bored with it after listening to it for about 2 weeks. My fav songs were "Lamb of God" and "Omega the remix". If you want more rock/pop listen to Rebecca's CD "Transform" or "God". Those 2 are very good CD's. I would encourage you to listen to this CD or even buy it (especially praise/worship fans). so go and Worship God!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Lamb of God - Holy.......2007-01-26

I am a true fan of Rebecca St. James' music and I had to buy this album though there's only four songs that cannot be find other Rebecca St. James' albums. There's the most important songs found well but this collection could be better, however.

There is only one song from the debut album "Rebecca St. James" and that is "Here I Am". That song is truly the best and best-known song in that album but I would have taken also the song "I Thank You Lord" which is almost as good as "Here I Am"

There's four songs from "God": "God", "Speak to Me", "Go And Sin No More", and "Psalm 139". I think they are great songs all but still I would replace "Psalm 139" (which is a hidden track in "God") with "You're the Voice".

There's two songs from "Pray": "Pray" and "Mirror". The first one is a perfect choice but "Mirror" is not that good one. I would have replace that with "I'll Carry You" or "Love to Love You".

Then there's three songs from "Transform" which is 'a disco album'. "Reborn" and "Wait for Me" are great choices bur "Stand" is something I would have replaced. "Merciful" and "My Hope" would belong to this collection, at least "My Hope".

There's three from "Worship God" too: "Breathe", "Song of Love", and "Lamb of God" which are trule the three best from that album.

"A Cradle Prayer" is from the album "Christmas". I have to say that I wouldn't have taken any song from that album because it is hard to mix Christmas songs with other songs. And, there would have been better songs in that album too.

The rest of the songs which cannot be found in Rebecca's album:
"Expressions of Your Love": This is a great song. At first I didn't like it but now it sure is great! 4/5

"I Thank You": Also very good, even better than "Expressions of Your Love"! 4.5/5

"Yes, I Believe in God": A little more peaceful than two earlier ones but still a good song...and the lyrics are perfect! 4/5

"Until Your Love Broke Through": Keith Green is one of the persons Rebecca appreciates and this is a tribute for him. 4/5

Stars: Wait for Me, Reborn, God, Here I Am

5 out of 5 stars Just perfect if you don't have alot of her CD's!.......2006-12-03

I didn't have any of her CD's at all. My sister got it for her b-day because she was just crazy about "Expressions of Your Love." I didn't know if i would like alot, but i did! I love "Wait for Me!!!!" It has the best meaning and lyrics. i don't remember all of them, but i know i will once i hear them again. "I Thank You" and "Pray" r really catchy and fun songs to sing along to. "Expression of Your love" "Lamb of God" and "Reborn" are the rockin' kind of songs. There r some hymlike songs if you like them that's good. This Cd rocks

5 out of 5 stars The CORRECT Tracklist.......2006-09-15

There has been many people wondering all the songs from her different CDs. I am a RSJ veteran and here are the songs:

From "Rebecca St. James":
1. "Here I Am"

From "God":
1. "God"
2. "Speak To Me"
3. "Go & Sin No More"
4. "Psalm 139"

From "Pray":
1. "Pray"
2. Mirror

From Transform:
1. Reborn
2. Wait For Me
3. Stand

From WorshipGOD:
1. Song of Love
2. Breathe
4. Lamb of God

NEW Songs:
1. I Thank You
2. Expressions of Your Love

And "Yes, I Believe In God" is a song that was released only to radio in 1999. This is the first time it is available on CD.

5 out of 5 stars Nice compiliation!.......2006-02-27

i didn't like every song, but she gets 5 stars because she is easily the most inspired, contemporary Gospel artist out there. Most of her songs i can listen to over and over and over...then i'm always drenched in tears.
God bless you Sister Rebecca.

4 out of 5 stars Songs are from?.......2006-01-14

Let's start with the adjectives: energetic, powerful, creative, refreshing, excellent. That pretty much captures the essence of "Transform," the latest and--yes--greatest from Rebecca St. James, who never ceases to amaze. With more songwriting input than ever before, this blessed young Aussie gathers sounds from today's pop world and meshes them together oh-so-well. It would have been easy for RSJ to build on the groove that was established with her previous Grammy-winning release, Pray, but she's never one to sit still. And she playfully reminds us, in the Euro-disco sounding "Reborn," singing, "if you see a change in me and wonder." The riveting rocker "All Around Me" takes a page or two from the Garbage catalog, yet RSJ gives enough mojo to make it her own. The powerfully majestic "Stand" is another tour de force for RSJ, who showcases her mighty vocal talents in this pop masterpiece. Producers Matt Bronlewee and Dan Huff also should be commended for blending a lot of energy into a tightly focused and great-sounding release. --Michael Lyttle

5 out of 5 stars Reborn Music.......2007-01-19

Only few of the artists have courage to change their music style like Rebecca has! "God" is a rock album, and this is a disco album! This album has many hits, such as "Reborn", "Stand", and "Wait for Me". Rebecca's voice is awesome! I hope that many will find this album because it is one of my favourite albums of all time! It's hard to find any bad songs because this is so well produced. I would like to arise four songs especially: "For the Love of God", "Merciful", "My Hope", and "Lean on". This is the Christian disco pop album of our time!
Stars: Wait for Me, Universe, Merciful, Reborn, My Hope

5 out of 5 stars Very Unique and Cool... and diverse... and just plain awesome!!!.......2006-11-08

This CD is SO great! I love the techno/pop/rock stuff she did with it. It's so amazing. I especialy like "For the LOve of God", "Don't Worry" and "Stand". Keep on Rockin' for the one and only Rock, Bec!

2 out of 5 stars what can I say?.......2006-07-19

I was expecting a lot from this CD: I'd heard a lot of RSJ's music and really liked it so when I went ahead and bought this I just couldn't wait for it to land in my mailbox. Unfortunetely I can't say I was pleased. The lyrics are great, don't get me wrong but the melodies were just...strange. On the 2nd track we get some funky techno music, and on the last track a very calm tune, on the 7th track a more ''popish'' one. I guess there just isn't any harmony in it all. Too bad because there are some really good messages in there but they're clouded by attempted post modern music.
the 2 stars are for the very pleasant songs ''wait for me'' and ''my hope''

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Lyrics, Awesome Vocals, Good Rhythm.......2006-06-19

This CD was added to my collection soon after it came out in 2000, and I still listen to it! It is one of my favorite CDs that has stood the test of years of new music. I have always been a fan of Rebecca St. James and this album proves why. I love how the first couple of songs include an orchestra, and then the next few songs seem to stay rocky while shifting away from the orchestra. A seemingly perfect transition between songs makes this one awesome disc. Rebecca has brilliant lyrics, awesome vocals, as well as good rhythm: a must have for all Christian music lovers!

5 out of 5 stars Her best cd ever!.......2005-11-25

Before this cd I wasn't too crazy about Rebecca St.James...but this Transform cd blew me away! It starts with a beautiful strings intro..followed my many awesome songs. Reborn and Lean On are very upbeat and techno-ish..and also my favorite songs on the album. There are only about 2 slow songs on here I don't like too much...but the good tracks make this cd definitly worth buying! I'm just dissapointed that the awesome song Lean On didn't make it to her "Best of" cd, because it's my favorite song from her overall! BUY THIS ...BUT THIS ...BUY THIS!!!!

Few have burst onto the Christian music scene with such raw honesty and edgy appeal as Rebecca St. James. With 1996's God, this young Australian went from unknown to spokesperson for a generation. The title track, along with the irresistible "Me Without You" and "Go and Sin No More," were all CCM No. 1 hits. And rightfully so! The title track uniquely alternates a pastoral melody with acoustic guitar and flute while St. James belts out the chorus with urgency and desire. Musically, the rest features moody atmospherics, hook-laden guitar riffs, and St. James's nontraditional yet strong vocals. An artist worth paying attention to, St. James could easily take her place among the Lilith Fair crowd with little apology for her message. --Michael Lyttle

5 out of 5 stars She's the Voice!.......2007-01-19

I have to say that when I for the first time heard the song "God" I was amazed! Such a great song and such a great singer with great message! This album is like a Christian answer to Alanis Morissette's "Jagged Little Pill", only much better! This whole album is basically same kind of Christian rock and it's working for me! Rebecca has such a great voice and her voice is superb! The album has much more to give than "God" - "You're the Voice", "Go And Sin No More", "You Then Me", and "Me Without You" for exapmple. "Speak to Me", "That's Waht Matters", and "A Cold Heart Turns" are such great peaceful songs! Rebecca has proved that she has a perfect voice to sing both peaceful and heavy songs!

5 out of 5 stars One of my First Christian Albums.......2006-03-07

I grew up listening to my parent's Christian music, which was Bill Gaither and started listening to secular music when I became a teenager. Rebecca St. James' music has definitely changed my taste in music. She is one of my favorite Christian artists. This album is one of my favorite amongst others like Newsboys and Jars of Clay. Having grown up listening to Gospel this has been great because it sounds secular, but the lyrics are Christian and I love the sound of contemporary Christian music because it reaches out to those who like the popular music out there that don't send a positive message that Rebecca St. James and Newsboys are sending. I enjoy listening to all of her albums, and cannot wait to attend any of her concerts because I have read rave reviews of her concerts. I also love the message she is sending about waiting to have sex until after marriage. She is a positive role model to our teens today.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite albums - Christian or not.......2005-06-10

I listen to both Christian and non-Christian rock and this album is one of the best albums I own and is, without question, Rebecca St. James' best effort to date.

There are 11 tracks on the album (Track 10 is extended and contains a 'hidden' track) and all but 2 are exceptional. The lyrics are well-crafted, uplifted and powerful. The music goes hand-in-hand - paired perfectly to give the lyrics the most impact. From time to time, when I'm feeling low, this album is a great pick-me-up and a reminder about the wonders of God, faith and forgiveness.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2005-04-12

I have had this album for several years and never tire of it. It has beautiful vocals, solid lyrics, and an overall great sound. If you are a Rebecca fan, but don't have this album, I would highly recommend it. If you are unfamiliar with her music, this is a collection that you will likely enjoy a lot.

This was my first ever Rebecca St. James CD and I loved it. I listen to it almost every day. I only have 4 of Rebecca's CD's and this is my 2nd fav (My fav Cd by RSJames is "Transform") Anyhow I think Rebecca did a wonderful job on this CD. I would definitley encourage you to go buy this CD! There's a beauty to the rawness of Rebecca St. James. While her contemporaries in the Christian market ply their formulaic-sounding wares, St. James continues to go where few artists, if any, have gone before. On Pray, her fourth album, the young Australian singer meshes Euro-industrial with charismatic Christian for a mind-bending (if not soul-bending) experience. Producer Tedd T. offers the right blend of programming, melodic rock, and St. James's powerful vocals on the opening title track as well as the brilliant "Come Quickly Lord" and "Peace." While the covers of Rich Mullins's "Hold Me Jesus" and Keith Green's "Lord You're Beautiful" provide new treatments to old standards, it is the numbers penned by St. James and Tedd T. that stand out. Don't miss the haunting final number, "Omega," or the mystery track beyond. --Michael Lyttle

3 out of 5 stars OK.......2007-01-19

Rebecca's album "God" is a classic but this album isn't as good as it, nearly! Sure, there's great songs like "Pray", "Love to Love You", "I'll Carry You", and "Mirror" but there's quite simple songs too, such as "Hold Me Jesus", "Peace", "Lord You're Beautiful", and "OK" (the keyboards like in Depeche Mode songs) that don't deserve much attention! The last song "Omega" is a great one and it's a nice way to finish this album! Rebecca has such a great song and I only hope that they would have produced this album better and made better ideas!
Stars: Pray, Love to Love You, I'll Carry You

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-03-01

I really loved this CD. What I love about Rebecca is that she is herself; she doesn't try to be like "the world" (notice quotation marks) to get your attention.

1. Pray- A song that starts out with some violens, then just explodes. It is a very passionate song and just well done.

2. Ok- An okay song, though not my favorite. It is kind of quiet, and I favor her pop/rock sound. She just has that kind of voice.

3. Give Myself Away- Another great song. I loved the chorus. The music reminded me of old school rock.

4. Hold Me Jesus- A beautiful song that describes a person at her wits end.

5. I'll Carry You- KICKIN'! This song has another good message of friendship. Plus, it rocks.

6. Come Quickly Lord- Well written, well sung, well played...awesome.

7. Peace- Not my favorite, but I loved the message. The song sounds very professional and well written again.

8. Mirror- Alas, not a favorite song for me. It just doesn't sound like her.

9. Lord, you're beautiful- The song opens quiet, but then at the chorus starts to rock

10. Love to love you- A sweet song about loving God.

11. Omega- I loved this song, and it was a perfect ending to the album.

So, with that said, this oldskool album is very good. So, go buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Great worship CD!.......2005-08-09

I love this CD not just for its catchy songs but for the worshipful atmosphere it creates whenever I listen to it. I get frustrated with "Christian" music that does nothing more than induce a vaguely cheerful emotion. I want music that focuses my mind and heart on the Lord, not on my emotions. Pray does just that with lyrics that praise and honor God. I also appreciate the fact that Rebecca St. James' lyrics are simple to remember - after just a few times of hearing her songs, I find myself singing them all day! Be sure not to miss the hidden song "Be Thou My Vision" on the last track. It is the best version of the best hymn I have heard to date. I highly recommend this CD and would like to thank Ms. St. James for offering a CD that gives glory to the Lord God.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2005-03-07

Pray features Rebecca's beautiful voice with very uplifting lyrics. I listened to this recently after not having played it for a couple of years. I have ended up listening to it several times since then.

There are several songs on it that are very good and none that aren't enjoyable. I particularly like 'Pray' and 'Come Quickly Lord'. If you like Rebecca's music, you should definitely enjoy this. If you are not familiar with her, it is not a bad place to start.

5 out of 5 stars An enjoyable album........2004-06-06

The first time I had ever heard of Rebecca was when I saw her live. I can't remember the exact date but it was in Kamloops, BC. She had just released Pray and I was skeptical going to see her as myself, am not a religious person. But boy, did I have a good time!

Not only did she play a long and brilliant set, there were many times when she'd take time-outs for chats with the audience and made it a really enjoyable experience. She was signing autographs after the show and not having any Rebecca merchandise myself, bought Pray and got her to sign it. She was friendly and endearing and I really enjoyed meeting her.

Years after purchasing Pray (and not having listened to it in a while), my respect and general like for Rebecca and her music are still there entirely, if not more. It's one of those albums that you still ENJOY after years passing.

Rebecca has an interesting way of incorporating worship with catchy lyrics and her diverse euro-pop sound. Her voice is strong and inviting and always leaves the ears wanting more and the rare thing is, you feel that way after each song. I always feel that everything with turn out okay in the end after I'm finished listening to Pray and it's an album that really makes me feel hopeful about the future.

It's hard to inspire people that much through music and Rebecca is someone that definitely inspires through Pray and I'm sure she will through whatever else she has done or will do. It's an album that at least deserves a listen to whether you're a religious person or not, because her lyrics still inspire the non-believers.

4 out of 5 stars The Power of Her Live.......2007-02-05

At first I Didn't like this live album at all but after many listening times I started to like it. The opening song "Lamb of God" sounds even better than in the studio album. Four songs are taken from "Worship God" and then there's four classics "Blessed Be Your Name", "I Adore You", "Here I Am to Worship", and "The Power of Your Love". O, and the hidden bonus track "Shout to the Lord". This live album has much power and this truly God-worshipping album! I only hope that they would have taken songs from other albums too. It's great listen to this kind of live power in which the audience sings too. "Here I Am to Worship" is an acapella but that doesn't matter! Great!

4 out of 5 stars Great Worship Collection.......2006-01-02

As with anything that Rebecca St. James does, this collection is excellent. She has a superb mix of worship songs on this live CD.

In addition to the listed songs, there is a hidden track of 'Shout to the Lord' so don't stop the last song too soon. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a lot of songs. I would have loved to have heard a few more. Excluding that mild problem, this is very good. I would recommend it.

This album is so good! The live music is refreshing. Here's my rating track by track:

1. LAMB OF GOD. 5/5. Love the new makeover!

2. BLESSED BE YOUR NAME. 5/5. An awesome version! Her one with Newsboys is good too (See Devotion by Newsboys)!

3. QUIET YOU W/ MY LOVE. 5/5. This is just like the original, just with people praising God, too!

4. LET MY WORDS BE FEW. 4/5. This song is pretty god. Very worshipy.

5 I ADORE YOU. 5/5. Very simple, but very good!

6. ABOVE ALL. 5/5. Beautiful.

7. HERE I AM TO WORSHIP. 2/5. This is the only song I don't like, because its a cappella.

8. POWER OF YOUR LOVE (studio recording). 5/5. This song is so powerful, especially when she says "Hold Me Close"!

9. SHOUT TO THE LORD (studio recording) [hidden track]. 5/5. This song is not new, it came out in the Transform era. Very good.

Hope this revire helped you!

Many Christian artists have Christmas albums these days, but not many like this one. St. James said she had two mottoes on this 1997 release: pray before everything, and try everything not tried before on a Christmas album. Believe her. With a bold sense of adventure, producer Tedd T. lays in programmed tracks to provide moody and ethereal treatment that loosens age-old standards like "Sweet Little Jesus Boy," "One Small Child," and "O Holy Night." The method works best on the brilliant "Silent Night" and the rhythm-laced "O Come Emmanuel" but fails on the cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy Christmas," which was better left alone. The beautiful "A Cradle Prayer," with lyrics by St. James, ends with a tender and lifting spirit. --Michael Lyttle

4 out of 5 stars My Favourite Christmas Album...Truly!.......2007-02-05

Rebecca St. James is my number one gospel rock artist, and this Christas album is like music in her most famous album "God". She sings beautifully and there's great melodies. Of course, Iäm little disappointed in "Silen Night" because it is too long. Still, there's 8 great Christmas songs and two not-so-good ("Jesu' Joy of Man's Desiring" is the worst song in this album"). I always love to hear new versions of the classic song "What Child Is This". How ever, the best songs in this album are "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" and "O Come All Ye Faithful". This is a perfect Christmas album for them who liked the album "God". There's even a peaceful song "A Cradle Prayer" which is made by Rebecca!

2 out of 5 stars Christ-m(etal)-as.......2004-03-16

A fan of Rebecca St. James, I found this album to be disappointing in the end. I originally loved the album and enjoy her takes on "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" and "O Holy Night," but the loud, head-banging selections on nearly every song on this album make it a near headache instead of a worshipful experience. St. James could have done better with her album. Those who are fans of her album "God" will enjoy this album. Those who prefer the techno-driven "Transform" over the heavy-rock inspired "God" would probably have a hard time listening to "Christmas."

5 out of 5 stars Great gift idea.......2003-11-20

Rebecca St. James' Christmas cd is neither sappy nor traditional. It has crisp lyrics and smooth beats. Songs are well paced and distributed, neither all fast nor all slow. Will appeal to pretty much anybody who has any bit of sentimentality for the Christmas season past or present.

5 out of 5 stars "Christmas" Rocks!.......2003-01-18

Rebecca St. James has created a reputation for orchestrating a symphony of guitars, electric or otherwise, drums, strings, synths, and producing an almost girl-punk sound, but for this album, added a small amount of seasonal cheer to old Christmas tunes. A new version of "O Come Emmanuel" with powerful bridges gives the old a new meaning. John Lennon's "War is Over (Happy Christmas)" couldn't be done any better, and I had never even heard "Sweet Little Jesus Boy" until I bought this CD. Surely one of Rebecca's best! If you love to rock, and you love Christmas and you love to buy good CDs, maybe you should think about maybe getting ahold of one of these before next Christmas.
