About the Artist
Singing since the age of 12, Brenda Lowe has committed her life to praising the Lord in song. A native of San Francisco, her motto is "With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness..." Psalms 89:1.

Brenda began her ministry singing in senior citizen homes, hospitals, funerals and local churches. At the age of 15 she joined the Voice of Victory community choir as well as the Bay Area Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. This union afforded her the opportunity to sing with some of the best in the gospel field.

She has shared her gift of ministry across the country. Internationally she has traveled to Canada, Germany, Korea, Singapore and she is preparing for a tour of the Philippines January-February of 1999. Currently Brenda is involved with Chuck Colson's Prison Fellowship Ministries which ministers throughout various federal and state correctional institutions.

Brenda has been a featured soloist on numerous recordings including The Sacramento Mass Choir, The Chicago Mass Choir "Right Now If You Believe", Isaac and James "Fishers of Men" and Wanda Nero Butler. In 1990 Brenda was the featured soloist at the Bay Area Gospel Music Awards and in 1991 and 1996 was nominated for the award Bay Area Gospel Female Soloist. In 1996, for the summer Olympics in Atlanta, Brenda was the voice of Africa in the Call of the Nations. In 1998, Brenda starred as Victoria in the smash gospel music "A Street Called Straight".

Brenda's goal is to spread the word of God to all who are willing to receive it following the call in Matthew 28:19 "Go ye therefore and teach, making disciples of all the nations."

Album Description
Brenda's first solo recording "Waiting" includes 9 selections sure to find favor with Traditional, Contemporary Christian and Inspirational audiences alike.

She skillfully combines the lyrical styles of all three as she tells us about "A Man Named Jesus", proclaims that no matter who you are "You Must Come In At The Gate" and reminds us of God's pledge that "All Things Work Together" for them that love Him and are called according to His purpose

This 1978 live album remains a serious contender for one of the best live rock albums ever etched, standing toe to toe with live classics from the Band, Allman Brothers, and the Who. Recorded during concerts in London and Washington, D.C., Waiting for Columbus vividly captures the L.A. sextet at a crossroads between its swampy mid-'70s fusion of blues, country, and New Orleans R&B, and the more eclectic jazz accents introduced later in the decade. If the late Lowell George's influence had diminished in the studio, his presence dominates here in rowdy, righteous vocals, the mercurial tang of his indelible slide guitar, and a set-list laced with his songs. While still riveting in its initial, abridged CD release, this remastered two-disc edition expands and resequences the songs into a full concert set, with encore. Two deleted tracks are further augmented by 10 additional performances to make this a definitive edition of a classic album that really will "boogie your speakers away." --Sam Sutherland

4 out of 5 stars Little Feat: "Waiting for Columbus" Listener Review.......2007-06-27

I write this review as someone who holds a music degree from the oldest music conservatory in California - which simply means I spent a lot of time and years of my life learning to perform and recognize good music. This album is good music. I learned of Little Feat from a business colleague, and I am hooked. It is blues, it is rock, it is country rock, it is cajun: take your pick - but these tunes are all well written and well performed in a live setting. As a huge Tower of Power fan, it doesn't hurt that the famous TOP horn section is prominent on several cuts, with tenor sax solos courtesy of Lenny Pickett (the wild-looking band leader on Saturday Night Live who hits all of those really high notes on sax!). Call it old school if you must, but as a guy who just edged his way into baby boomer territory, it is new, fresh and exciting. I love this band for the same reasons I still love to listen to the great classical composers...the music is relevent.

5 out of 5 stars Quintessential live concert with all the trimmings..........2007-04-29

If you're a Little Feat fan, you already know what this is about. If you're discovering them for the first time, consider this a necessary listen. Little Feat found their own space with an approach that took the relaxed, earthy, and often humorous elements of southern rock and married them to R&B, progressive, even jazz like sophistication. The result in a live venue is a wildly exciting and just plain fun concert that captures Little Feat at their best. The live versions of their songs are supercharged and embellished with occasional detours that keep them fresh without ever detracting from their studio counterparts, perhaps even supplanting a few. The recording quality of the remastered/extended release is excellent. Close your eyes and consider this a front row seat to some superb southern cookin' by a band that had no equal at the time.

5 out of 5 stars Waiting for Columbus.......2007-01-29

This recording is a MUST for Little Feat Fans...it reveals just how tight this band was with Lowell George in a live recording...

5 out of 5 stars The BEST LIVE ALBUM I'VE EVER HEARD!!!!.......2007-01-18

I wasn't a "Feat" fan, back in '78 or'79. I won this album in a radio station giveway! They handed it to me & I thought: Who are these guys?
I put it on & couldn't believe my ears!!
5 stars!!??? That's 'way too few!
I was hooked immediately! There is nothing like the energy on this album anywhere I've heard. I now own around 3200 cds & a good number of them are "live" albums...NOTHING compares to this performance!
I used to shuttle cars across the country & this was my ESSENTIAL tape that HAD to come; everything else changed but this... This album is special!
It was originally a double album & they clipped off one tune to make it fit ( Apolitical Blues, I believe) Too bad. every song, every note on this album is pure excitement & joy!
They even have the TOWER OF POWER horn Section sit in on a few tunes & a few famous friends show up to sing backup.
Little Feat has gone on to produce umpteen fabulous albums, many since Lowell Goerge passed (again, TOO BAD- He was simply amazing!) Anyway, Little Feat still tours today with much the same lineup as in the days of old. They still rock & they still put out excellent studio & live albums I ought to know- I now own almost all of them. But friends... This is the album. THIS Is the LIVE album against with you will measure all others; and all others will pale by comparison!

5 out of 5 stars Clyde's Tavern.......2007-01-03

During my five and a half year undergraduate career at Appalachian State this recording was played more than any other at Clyde's Tavern in Blowing Rock, NC. The addition of the second CD just makes the best live rock and roll recording twice as good.

Virginia exile Jason Mraz grew up listening to Dave Matthews and Agents of Good Roots, local heroes whose frat-friendly influences are much in evidence on his major-label debut. Producer John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer) augments Mraz's SoCal cohorts with Agents' rhythm section, dramatically expanding and polishing songs like "Curbside Prophet" and "You and I Both," which previously appeared in looser, less developed versions on Mraz's self-released live recordings. But fans from the singer-songwriter's coffeehouse years need not despair. Mraz's witty lyrics and easygoing folk-blues stylings (think Jack Johnson on Prozac) are still very much in evidence. He's also in fine voice and, on two standout tracks--"Who Needs Shelter" and "Absolutely Zero"--rivals Neil Finn in his ability to invoke the spirit of Paul McCartney. Waiting for My Rocket to Come showcases an artist who, while still finding his own direction, is clearly off to a great start. --Bill Forman

Album Description

His debut album is packed with witty, wordy, smart, funky & astonishingly catchy pop songs that do right by the best singer-songwriter traditions of Elektra. 2002.

5 out of 5 stars great album sophomore album a bit better.......2007-01-14

this album is great I like it so much ! REMEDY is awesome!

5 out of 5 stars Very, very good debut!.......2006-07-30

I am very surprised that Jason Mraz isn't more popular than he is. With songs like "The Remedy" and "You and I Both" which are both great, you'd think he'd be right up there with John Mayer (I actually like Jason a lot more than John Mayer). He should have won best new artist at least at the Grammys, but he didn't even get nominated. My other favs. from this album include "On Love, In Sadness" and "Curbside Prophet" This is one of the best male singers to come around in a long time. I recommend Waiting For My Rocket To Come; Mr. A-Z and any other album he comes out with. He is GREAT! :)

5 out of 5 stars Optomisum in its best form.......2006-03-09

I love this man. When I listen to it, it makes me happy. Thats the best way that I can put it. Also I think his lyrics are unique and relatiable.

5 out of 5 stars This CD is uplifting in a way!!.......2006-01-20

I like Jason Mraz's music and his first one(this one) sounds too great. I put him in the same camp as John Mayer, Maroon 5, Gavin DeGraw, Train, and Rob Thomas. He uses real instruments throughout every song and his lyrics are very funny. This is also a laid back and kind of humorous album. This one is not to be slept on. I can call it The WB music.

4 out of 5 stars Great Debut Album - Jason Mraz - Waiting for My Rocket to Come.......2006-01-19

This was another surprising album to me. Obviously, everyone that knows Jason Mraz knows his songs "The Remedy," and "You and I Both," which are his top hits that are played on the radio. However, he does have other good songs like "I'll do anything." The negative is that the album has some gaps, meaning only half the album has good songs, and the rest sound like filler songs to me. Another negative is after a while, all the songs sound about the same, but that may not be a negative to some people, if you like the sound of the song. Personally, I could listen to most of the songs and I really liked the CD. He mixes Pop and alternative together nicely, and I really recommend other people to buy this great CD.

Waiting to Exhale is the exception that proves the rule about mish-mash '90s soundtrack albums. Even though it features 22 different female voices, the album boasts a rare continuity because Babyface wrote or cowrote 15 of the songs and produced all 16. Moreover, the gifted R&B artist used every song to explore the film's theme of women trying to balance self-respect and romantic desire. Not only has Babyface (nee Kenny Edmonds) created a fascinating song suite, he has produced one of the best middle-of-the-road-pop, adult- contemporary albums of the decade. Mary J. Blige stakes out a claim as the new diva on the block with an astonishing performance on "Not Gon' Cry." Babyface's music and lyrics suggest a woman barely holding back a swelling flood of anger and heartache, and Blige's brilliant vocal captures both the agitation and the restraint. --Geoffrey Himes

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite soundtrack albums of all time.......2007-07-13

First, there was the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Interesting. Then, some eighteen years later, Waiting to Exhale soundtrack. MARVELOUS. Simply marvelous. Every song on this album is pleasing to the ears. One of my favorites would have to be My Love, Sweet Love, by Patti Labelle. The other one would have to be Count on Me, by Whitney Houston, and Cece Winans. This soundtrack album definitely helps me out, especially when I am having one of those bad days. Or whenever I am in a sensual, yet excited mood. A must have album for all women.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2007-03-08

I really love this CD, I've been to every Best Buy in town and no one had it. I was so excited to know that Amazon had it, I order it imediately. And the prices are great.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest R&B Soundtrack of the 90's!!!!!.......2007-02-04

"Sometimes you'll laugh and sometimes you will cry, life never tells us the whens or why's, but when you've got friends to wish you well.. You'll find the point that you will exhale, Shoop Shoop.

This amazing soundtrack which featured some of the greatest female R&B singers of the 90's showcases the raw powerful talent of not only the female artists, but the man who wrote, produced, and arranged most of the songs of the soundtack, Babyface. I recommend this album to anyone who has seen the movie or if you love R&B music that this is an album that has to be included in your music collection. Let's begin with the first song, which brings forth the passion and power of the soundtrack

1)Exhale (Shoop Shoop)- Strong opening for the song. Ms. Houstons vocals were strong. The lyrics wonderful as they portrayed the emotional drama that occured during the movie

2)Why does it hurt so bad?- Wonder why some of us are still in love with someone who has hurt us so bad. Well Babyface and Whitney want to tell you and they do so brillantly. This incredible song demonstrates why Ms. Houston is one of our greatest singers of all time.

3)Let it flow- Have Toni Braxtons Secrets album, then you alredy know about this song. Now Say lalalalala

4)Hurts Like Hell- Bow down to the Queen of Soul, Ms. Franklin. This was probably one of the best songs of the album. Ms. Franklin talks about the hurt we all go through when love turns sour and how the survivial hurts like hell

5)Sitt'in in my room- At the time Brandy the soundtrack was released. Brandy was one of the youngest newcomers of the R&B scene. Although initially, I wanted Aaliyah to be on the soundtrack and wondered why she was not there, Brandy did a great job with the song, it brought a youthful approach about love and romance.

6)This is how it works- This before the fan mail CD was probabaly TLC's most provocative song out there. If your listening at work make sure to keep it at low volume.

7) Not Gon'Cry- This song totally fits the character of Angela Basset from the movie and for any woman who has been betrayed by her lover, friend, and or husband. Known to all of us, as the Queen of Hip Hop and Soul Babyface really knew what song to give Mary J. Blige and this song really showcases Mary's ability to do a variety of R&B styles not just with songs that have a Hip Hop edge to them

8)My Funny Valentine- Yes a remake of this incredible song, it can only be done by a great singer and Chaka Khan the legend that she is outdid herself immensely. Her voice was so sultry, and inviting that the song really gets you in the mood for umm some long loving....

9)And I Gave My Love to You- When I hear this song I think of soul, hip hop,and poetry.

10)All Night Long- Great song to seduce your man into getting him into the mood.

11)Wey U- Even though I did not understand the lyrics. Chante Moores voice is so great that you overlook it

12)My Love, Sweet Love- Ms. Labelle is not going to let these other girls get all the attention with this sweet song. Yes, she is going to sing nice and slow, but towards the end she is going to give us a wave of emotion which only Patti can give.

13)Kissing You- One of my favorite songs from Faith Evans. Ms. Evans at this time had just barely entered the R&B scene and Babyface knew what song to give to her really push her out to mainstream.

14)Love will be waiting at home- The last songs of the soundtrack show a variety of artists who were not really known in the music scene. For Real was an incredible R&B group that showcased great singer but sadly did not make it to mainstream

15)How could you call her baby- Want to win an agrument with your man if he is cheating. Play this song.

16)Count on Me- What do you when you feature the greatest singer of our time (Ms. Houston) and match her with one of the greatest Gospel vocalists of our time (Ms. Winans). An incredible song that talks about being there for someone you care for.

All In All this soundtrack was incredible

5 out of 5 stars Love It!.......2006-05-11

As much as I luv the move I gotta say that the soundtrack is so good! All of the Female Artists on this album really took it to another level. BUY THE ALBUM!

5 out of 5 stars This album assembles some of the greatest talent!.......2006-03-27

Babyface has done this album very well. For a writer, producer, and artist in his own right to write songs for women he must do it right and face does on this disc that has cemented his place in history.

To call this album a soundtrack is a little misleading. _Waiting to Exhale_ isn't so much a soundtrack as a compilation album that was played incessantly throughout a movie. As the music industry digs itself deeper and deeper into the hole of over-promoting singles to the point of completely eroding audience loyalty to a particular artist, the soundtrack has become a lifeline through which the major labels are attempting to increase sales by targeting tightly-focused demographics with the best they have to offer. none of that, however, does anything to detract from the awe-inspiring talent brought together for this project.

Starting from Aretha Franklin to Brandy, Chaka Khan to Mary G Blige and Patti La Belle to Whitney Houston, it bridges a gap across generations of black female singers, while showcasing the different forms that Soul Music has taken over the years.
Whitney Houston's pre-requisite contributions are gems with "Why does it hurt so bad" standing out as the crown jewel. while Toni Braxton's "Let it flow" doesn't pack the vocal Whallop of "Unbreak my heart" it does address some of the major relationship issues of the movie that it is meant to represent. Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle and Chaka Khan, of course, are flawless. Brandy and TLC add the album's only party tracks with "Sittin' up in my room" and "This is how it should be done", respectively. Mary J. Blige brings the house down with her heart-wrenching performance of "Not gon' Cry" building on the heartache of Houston and Franklin's contributions. Newcomer (During that year) Sonja Marie breaks it down with "and "I gave my love to you", establishing her as a Sade Protégé with a style all her own. SWV and Faith Evans provide rather non-descript turn-down-the-lights love jams in "All night long" and "Kissing you", respectively, while for real and Shanna show that there is a steady flow of new talent that may one day be the heavy-hitters of a similar compilation effort.

Aside from assembling some of the greatest talent in R&B, hip-hop and soul, this album is significant because it reflects the changing tide of the music industry during that time that was so long dominated by men. Though written and produced by a man, this album would not have sold nearly as well had all the contributing artist been men and, for recognizing that, _Waiting to Exhale_ is a historic album.

Album Description

1968's WAITING FOR THE SUN, the Doors' first chart-topper, delivered the #1 signature smash "Hello, I Love You" and the Top 40 hit "The Unknown Soldier." New liner notes penned by Paul Williams. Five bonus tracks include the 17-minute epic "Celebration Of The Lizard" and three previously unissued versions of "Not To Touch The Earth."

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Different but Still Great!.......2007-07-09

I bought this new version of "Waiting for the Sun" to get a studio-version of the legendary unreleased song "Celebration of the Lizard". Obviously the strongest part of the song is, what was released on the original album as "Not to Touch the Earth", and the track is what it says, "a work in progress". Still interesting moments. The other takes of "Not to Touch the Earth" which are included as bonus-tracks have made me realize how good a song this really is.

What surprised me the most when I listened through the album was that I thought it sounded different. Was it really that long since I last heard it? I did not realize that the album had been both remastered and remixed. I guess it will take some time to get used to these new "versions" - but the sound is really crisp and clear, and if I want to hear the old mixes I can always return to the originals.

The original album contains some the Doors' most poetic and melodic moments like "Yes, The River Knows", the exquisite "Love Street" , which is one of the highlights of the album. The moving "Summer`s Almost Gone". "Wintertime Love" and "Spanish Caravan" are other highlights.

"Not to Touch the Earth" and "Five to One" : Classic Doors !!!
The hit singles "Hello I Love You" and "The Unknown Soldier" may not have aged as well as the rest of the album`s songs. Except of course the weak "My Wild Love" which probably always will annoy me.

5 out of 5 stars We finally get the whole package.......2007-06-23

When this album was released in the late 60's, I bought the vinyl album and noticed that the liner notes had the entire version of "The Celebration of the Lizard). The only part of this that appeared on the album was "Not to touch the Earth"
Not to Touch the Earth is probably the best part of the song, but its only part of it.
I remember being disappointed that the song was not long like, The End or When the Music's over were on their previous two releases.
FINALLY after 40 years they have released a studio version of the entire song.
Waiting for the Sun and their first album simply entitled the Doors are in my mind their best releases. Both albums are raw and are less commercial.
Some of the later releases such as Soft Parade and Morrison Hotel are either not as good or are too commerical. A few songs on Soft Parade even have horns and other things that make the recordings too "Refined"
Jim Morrison is reciting his poetry, and it is probably his first album where he does so.
For hard core Doors fans like myself this is a must. For casual listeners or new listeners, I dont know what to tell you.
For me the recording is now complete and Doors fans like myself can now hear this CD in its entirety.............Enjoy

5 out of 5 stars Remixed!!???!!! - Yep, that's the whole point.........40th Anniversary Remix.......2007-04-14

OK.....What we have here is a failure for some folks to have done their homework. This is the 40th Anniversary "remix" of Waiting for the Sun. It's supposed to be a bit different from the original. In fact ALL of the Doors studio albums have been not only remastered, but remixed. Bonus tracks added as well. If you want the Doors sounding like the albums you grew up with, then pick up the last set of remastered CDs from 1999. If you want killer sound quality, bonus tracks and a new take on these classics pick the 40th Anniversary mixes on Rhino/Elektra. If you're a big fan like me, you'll have them both. At any rate, these editions are great! They are the same you would have gotten if you bought the "Perecptions" box set (no DVD 5.1 mixes here or video content though). Don't be bummed out, just shop wisely and enjoy!! Once again, these editions are a must for longtime fans.

1 out of 5 stars Remixed!!!.......2007-04-03

Yes, the sound is great but the tracks are remixed, often with new vocal and instrumental parts. These are NOT the original mixes. Caveat emptor!

3 out of 5 stars Inhale The Smoked Out Rhymes (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-05-04

I really haven't been paying attention to Devin The Dude much. The only times I've heard him was on Dr. Dre's "F You" and on Scarface's "Sex Faces" and "In And Out". Dude can drop some nice rhymes judging from those two songs. I finally had a chance to check out his latest album "Waiting To Inhale" (I also purchased "To Tha X-Treme" and "Just Tryin' To Live" as well).

Devin's music has a laid back atmosphere with his slow flow. As many realised, he's in to two things: weed and women. I'm not mad at that A lot of the songs on here are about those two topics, over some slow sounding beats, and it can be enteraining. "She Want That Money" is one of the entertaining tracks that on this album. "I Hope I Don't Get Sick-A-This" and "All Mighty Dollar" has some nice beats that goes with Devin's flow. "Lil' Girl Gone" with Lil Wayne and Bun B is a nice song about little females who end up in very bad situations.

Some tracks I wasn't feeling was "What A Job" even though I love Snoop Dogg and Andre 3000. "Just Because" is a funny but the song itself is so slow, I'm just not feeling it. "Don't Wanna Be Alone" is a long slow don't-leave-me-girl song that has Devin singing, and is hard to build a tollerance for.

Overall, I feel that Devin's fourth album is a very good album. I personally like "To Tha X-Treme" better than this album. I believe that his albums are poorly promoted and are the reason why he gets slept on. Heck, he doesn't even get play in his home state of Texas, or at least not in San Antonio (I used to live there). If he had better promotion, I would believe that at least one of his albums would go gold or maybe platnum. No doubt Devin's talents maybe the best kept secret from Houston (and the only good album to come from there this year), and I recommend that you check out this album, especially if you like to smoke weed. Peace!

If you never heard of him, then wake up. It's The Dude... What do you expect? Good laid back, mellow music? Search no further. He never disappoints.

4 out of 5 stars Entertaining, very entertaining.......2007-04-30

I read a review that said that it is impossible to not be turned into an instant fan after listening to a Devin The Dude album and that is so true.

I have never heard any of this Dude's albums even though I always found his guest appearances funny. I decided to take a chance on his latest and I haven't been disappointed at all.

Lyrically Devin is the funniest thing I've ever heard. Its crazy how he can be funny even though he tackles some of the most over used subject matters. For example "She Useta Be" about a girl that was hot when she was young and put on a FEW pounds later on. Another is the Eminem influenced ode to killing his partner. Devin makes these topics fresh again.

Musically the album is very laid back defying the raunchy lyrical content but goes well with his lazy rap flow. Being independent Devin can ignore all rules regarding sampling and he really takes liberties with a wide range of samples which I cannot always place.

The album also scores because of Devin's ability to switch it up and take on more serious topics like on "Lil' Girl Lost" and "What A Job". Both tracks are definite highlights of the album.

Ultimately there is no need to be over analytical on this one, some will hate and some will love it, I just happen to be one of those that love it

5 out of 5 stars Devin Does It.......2007-04-09

I liked this album. I liked a majority of the tracks, great beats and descent lyrics. I liked What a Job, Nothing to Roll With, and Almighty Dollar. A must have!

Turn off your mind relax and float downstream. Entertainment for the mentaly enhanced. The words describe the words as you find a dark room and a few hours with the phone unplugged and doors locked. The fine woven gears of Firesign theatre transport you to forbidden places and celestial visons.

WARNING::::
When played backwards you will see God.. Mirror required incense and padded cell optional. Management not responsible for lost mental abilities.

5 out of 5 stars Nice Paisley Horsie.......2006-06-21

I remember listening to "Waiting for the Electrician" when it came out. Earphones. Sunshine LSD. What's not to like. I lost my vinyl of all the Firesign guys and got replacements recently. Listening 38 years later, it has excatly the same effect. Must be flashbacks. Satire is beyond time. Each self standing one act play defines the language of the piece so that the 60's and 70's lingua via is accessible. The title auditory show is more powerful now than then because they got it all right.

5 out of 5 stars Best Firesign performance ever BUT BEWARE..........2006-04-13

For those of you who know and loved this originally as an LP, you will be disappointed to learn that sony messed up the remix BIG TIME by deleting important dialog at the beginning of the second side of the album (of course, on the cd it would be the second segment). The beginning of the second side IS CRITICAL to the subject of the performance and as best as I can recall, should have begun something like this:

"Welcome to side 4. Please follow along as we learn 3 new words in Turkish.
Towel, Bath, Border...may I see your passport please..." ...
(someone could please tweak this for I know this is not EXACTLY the dialog).

Anyway, you get the idea. The beginning is suppose to be as if you were listening to one of those "Berlitz" language records. Just wish/ hope sony would rectify this REAL SOON!

4 out of 5 stars Eastern Europe: Home of Your Inner Child!.......2005-08-18

Oh - it's the Ice Show!

The spy has been in deep cover behind the Iron Curtain. He has just received his hurried direction in clipped sentences, has checked into the Hotel Kafka, and has been intercepted, probed, scoffed at, ignored, and wiretapped.

Then for no reason at all, he goes through a door, and is on the ice at the Berlibber Ice Palatz, to see the Gunatzis Brothers, Hans and Junni, shoot it out with weapons of increasing caliber and fierceness...

It was their first album, and thus one of their more transparent. But side two (sorry, Side Five), remains a masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars Good Stuff!.......2005-08-04

4 out of 5 stars Great Album.......2006-11-02

I like this album more and more as I listen to it. It has stayed in my player all summer and isn't leaving anytime soon.

2 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2006-07-02

I saw this CD at a friends house and asked about it, we put it in and I was blown away by "In a daydream". It took a while but
"Take the time" and others struck me too! I saw them in SLC at a private club. Man that drummer would smack the drums so hard...listen to the drumming and you can almost feel it!
BUY this !!! I had this as the number 1 CD in my car changer for about three years!

5 out of 5 stars When you need to remember to live life........2005-04-06

When you need to remember to live life, you listen to this album. There aren't many albums that are in constant rotation at my house, but this is one.

Let me take you back in time. It's 1994 and I am moving from my home to a big new city to pursue a dream. An awesome friend of mine, makes me a tape of various songs. It included three from the FJB, her favorite band, she was a groupie. From the beginning the music was uplifting, full of great lyrics and incredible. From Take the Time, to One World and then of course In a Daydream. I was in tears. I was starting new. Powerful stuff.

Take the Time starts off asking, Where the hell are you running to? Try and find yourself a life. Look at yourself you're just standing still. And later, Tired of people talking about what they're gonna do or what they said or should have done. It commands you to take the time to look in front of you. It's full of great harmonies, haunting vocals and goosebump producing guitars. Seriously.

In A Daydream starts off with a great, catchy, loopy guitar riff. It's a song that will propel you forward in one of those days you just dream about. Warm, sunny day in the middle of nowhere. "The sky is calling, calling out my name." "I'm already in a daydream." The music, especially the guitar and bass towards the end, is meant to achieve the musical equivalent of a fantasy. It captures it.

The bottom line is that music, for me, is meant to take me away to another place or time. This album is timeless, deserved A LOT more recognition that it got and this band was just incredible live. In fact, much better live. Thanks to my friend 11 yrs ago for introducing me to TFJB. I am in Chicago now, too bad they aren't together anymore. But their music lives on forever.

5 out of 5 stars A lover of "BLUES".......2002-10-23

I picked up the cassette of this at a tag sale! It is one of the BEST ever! I have been searching for more from FJB for months. Just found them (Oct 2002). It is amazing that they broke up. This is a MUST HAVE in your collection. I play it at least once a week. IN A DAYDREAM is wonderful. So is Dixie. They are all good. If you need a lift, this is the one to play. I cannot wait to get all the rest of their music.
A fan from Connecticut

5 out of 5 stars This album is a classic!.......2001-12-05

"Waiting for the Night" is one of the greatest lesser-known albums of recent history. There are some really dynamite tunes on this album. The song that is the favorite of everyone who knows Freddy Jones is "In a Daydream." It's the kind of song that will pick you up when you are down, and keep you riding when you're feeling great.

It's really a shame that this band no longer exists. Somehow the music mainstream missed these guys, and they never really got the huge national following that they deserved.

This is a great remaster of this cd. A previous reviewer wrote of not having the 2nd and 3d guitars, but they are all here and loud and clear on my cd.

1 out of 5 stars Missing 2nd and Third Lead.......2006-05-31

I am an old Outlaws fan. And for the most part. There newley releast CDs Are very good. But Lady In Waiting is not. The CD is missing the 2nd & 3rd lead guitar rifs. Witch really sucks for a band who is known for a 3 Guitar Assult!

5 out of 5 stars Another Great Album from the Florida Guitar Army.......2003-04-24

Another great album. You are going to get all the great guitar work and vocal harmony you expect from the boys from Tampa.

There are no big radio numbers on this album, but all the tunes are strong. "Breaker, Breaker" is good country/rock pop, a tune about a man heading home to his woman. "South Carolina", written by now Blackhawk lead singer Henry Paul, is a real country number with some real picking and grinning from Hughie Thomasson and Billy Jones.

"Ain't So Bad" is a smooth ballad from Billy Jones and "Freeborn Man" is a real country boogie tune that was written by Paul Revere and the Raiders vocalist Mark Lindsay. Of course, the Outlaws put their signature on this song like only they can.

"Stick Around For Rock and Roll" has all the chops that a guitar connoiseur is looking for. This is the signature guitar tune on the album.

"Lover Boy" and "Just For You" are more strong country rock boogie numbers. "Girl From Ohio" is more of the straight country variety from Henry Paul and "Prisoner" is another smooth number from William Harry Jones.

A good follow up album to their self-titled debut album "Outlaws".

5 out of 5 stars A Second Great Outlaws Album.......2002-09-27

LADY IN WAITING is a great record. It's just as great as BEST OF, BRING IT BACK ALIVE, OUTLAWS, HURRY SUNDOWN, and PLATINUM & GOLD COLLECTION, but is also a wonderful album in its own right. If you loved BEST OF, BRING IT BACK ALIVE, OUTLAWS, HURRY SUNDOWN, or PLATINUM & GOLD COLLECTION, you'll love LADY IN WAITING.

5 out of 5 stars Stick around for rock & roll.......2002-03-01

Excellent!! I said this back in the 70s and I hold by it today, this is southern rock at it's finest. "Freeborn Man" and "Stick around for rock & roll" are just a couple tunes on this CD that will get you kickin up your heels. This band is in a class all it's own. Nothin compares, not today, not 30 years ago.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-08-06

This is a wonderful double CD of fabulous musical numbers performed by theatre greats and directed by a legandary musical director.

5 out of 5 stars Simply the Best.......2005-06-29

First, to the person who criticizes the recording b/c of "Broadway Baby." Daisy Egan (who sings in in this recording) sounds like she's 10 becuase she IS young. She had just appeared on Braodway in Secret Garden and won a Tony for it. It's a joke...Broadway BABY...hello, it's a joke.

In a compilation of songs like this you're always going to have tracks that you prefer over others, but the majority of the renditions in this CD are great. This is simply one of the best collections of Sondheim out there. You get interpretations that span from "classical" (Green Finch), to bordering on insane (Anything Twice). This is to demonstrate how versatile this composer really is.

In my opinion, some of the best renditions are "Not a Day Goes By," "Anyone Can Whistle", "Girls Upstairs Medley," "Losing My Mind/Drive a Person Crazy," and "Weekend inthe Country." Makes me wish I had been there to witness it first hand.

If you love Sondheim and enjoy hearing Broadway performers, get this CD. A great recording.

4 out of 5 stars Inconsistent, but mostly excellent.......2004-03-21

I am sure no knowledgeable person would deny how absolutely perfect all these songs are. However, the performances on this album are extremely inconsistent. It will go from an excellent rendition (Waiting for the Girls medley, Sunday, With So Little To Be Sure Of, Sooner or Later, Green Finch, Send in the Clowns, Pretty Lady) to the weird (I never Do Anything Twice), to the bad (Broadway Baby, Our Time). I still have absolutely no idea how they managed to butcher one of the best songs ever written--Good Thing Going--and turn it into smooth jazz elevator music. Why would they give Broadway Baby to someone who sounds like she's 10? That said, Liza Minelli, Glenn Close, Karen Ziemba, Dorothy Laudon and the "Waiting for the Girls" performers are all very good. And ending with Bernadette Peters and "Sunday" ends the set on a absolutley fabulous note.

5 out of 5 stars "Celebration" is not strong enough a word.......2003-04-30

This review is by Crosley.

I have been a major Sondheim fan for quite some time, and I finally obtained a copy of this album. I was blown away by the excellent cast and phenomenal selection of music. It is obvious how much work went into this production, considering that this is the live recording of a one time show, and it's flawless. The songs cover all of his shows with the exception of "Passion," which was released 3 years after this show. Also, the shows for which he wrote only lyrics are ommited, like West Side Story, Gypsy, etc. Thus, you can find material from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Anyone can Whistle, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Merrily we Roll Along, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, and Assassins.

There are two striking things about this CD (besides the music and performers themselves). First of all, some of the songs are completely stylistically reworked. The most obvious are "Good Thing Going" and "I Never do Anything Twice." Both are traditionally very ballady with a piano accompaniment, but here they have been redone as jazzy tunes. The result is excellent. Such reworkings demonstrate that Sondheim writes music for virtually any style, and in these cases, across several styles. It's a great example of his variety. The other interesting thing is how many songs have overlapping melodies of songs from different shows. Case in point, "Our Time" and "No one is Alone" are sung seperately by the Harlem Boys Choir and Betty Buckley (the original Grizabella in Webber's atrocious "CATS," although Buckley was excellent) respectively, and then combined. Putting these two songs together offer different meanings to each, and the music is only enhanced. Another example, the trio of "Waiting for the Girls Upstairs," "Love, I Hear," and "Live Alone and Like It" are sung in that order, and then the latter two are combined. Again, the meanings of the songs change, this time in an almost narrative style, and offering different takes on love in the same montage. Lastly (at least for this review, there are more), Dorothy Laudon's (the original Ms. Hannigan in Annie) combination of "Losing my Mind" and "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" is brilliant. Those who are familiar with these songs will wonder how exactly they fit, but trust me, they do. She swtiches back and forth between melodies to create a number that starts poignant and beautiful, and soon moves to become uproariously funny. Both the song reworkings and overlapping melodies of unrelated songs are all for the better.

I recommend this recording to anyone wanting to get better acquainted with some of Sondheim's best work, or those already familiar who want to hear a tour de force of phenomenal music. It has been said that Sondheim is a masterful lyricist (which he is), but lacks real talent for music. This CD is the final proof that such critics are wrong. His music may take a few listenings to get into, contrary to Webber or Wildhorn, but unlike those two, he doesn't cater to the audience. He challenges them to think outside of traditional musical theater in a glorious repertoise of shows that reach for a smarter, more sophisticated form.

5 out of 5 stars A maginificent evening, a magnificent album.......2001-12-16

There's something to be said for the first concert you ever see at Carnegie Hall. I was fortunate enough to have this be my first. This entire evening was devoted to his genius and the performers did not disappoint.

This wonderful double CD shows off the best and brightest of the musical theatre composer and it is, as one person put it, "an embarassment of riches." With songs from his finest works done in amazing arrangements (listen to that harmony in "We Had a Good Thing Going"!) combined with fabulous performers this is a Sondheim lovers delight.

My favorite song is, without a doubt, Dorothy Louden and her wonderful medley of "Losing My Mind" into "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" followed very closely by the recently departed Madeline Kahn singing "Getting Married Today."

Julia Murney's solo debut I'm Not Waiting shows how much talent lies just below the headlining-superstar level on Broadway. Best known for her electrifying portrayal of Queenie in Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party or for her role as Elphaba in the touring version of Wicked, Murney here shows both the power and sensitivity to be a major star. The mix of pop and Broadway songs ranges from Tom Waits's "Rainbow Sleeves," Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You," and Annie Lennox's "A Thousand Beautiful Things" merged with U2's "Beautiful Day," to John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy" (Murney starred in Broadway's Lennon in 2006) and Wicked's ballad "I'm Not That Girl." Lippa produced the recording and contributes not only "Raise the Roof" but "When I First Met Him," which was cut from The Wild Party and "I'm Not Waiting," written expressly for Murney. Pianist and co-musical director Tom Kitt also contributes the beautiful "Perfect." --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars LOVE HER!!.......2007-06-23

I had not heard of Julia Murney prior to seeing her perform as the "Green Girl" in Wicked. Let me just say that her voice is incredible! Everything she sang that evening was incredible. She "felt" the music and this carried over beautifully to the audience. By the time she finshed singing, "Defying Gravity", I had chills. I LOVE that song! I started to purchase the soundtrack to the play and I was informed that she was not singing on that CD, so I opted for her solo project without any hesistation! I must say that I am not sorry that I purchased this project! What clarity she has in her voice. I simply cannot say enough about her. I do plan on returning to NY to see this play again just to see her perform!

5 out of 5 stars Julia Murney -- Best female vocal I've ever heard!!!.......2007-05-31

I recently traveled to NYC where I thoroughly enjoyed the broadway show Wicked. The music was fantastic and the plot was interesting, but Julia Murney was the feature that made it for me. The first thing I noticed while hearing her sing, was the wonderful, rich tone of her voice. The passion and feeling conveyed through her vocals is breathtaking. Her range is phenomenal, when she sings soft and low you are filled with warmth. When she sings in her powerful upper range you get chills. With every song she sings she demands your attention to the lyrics. I ordered this album as soon as I could after the broadway performance.

5 out of 5 stars Julia belts it out!.......2007-05-21

Julia Murney not only has one of the best voices I've heard in a long time, it's also one of the most unique. Although I'm familiar with her work in the theatre, this album proves that she is comfortable with other musical styles; country, pop, whatever Joni Mitchell is.
She has, possibly, the most power I've heard in any singer, and a natural acting ability which makes her songs poignant and emotional. The arrangements turn old favourites into something new. The first song on the cd, a mix between Annie Lennox's A Thousand Beautiful Things and U2's A Beautiful Day is absolutely staggering. I'm Not Waiting, the title track, was written directly for Julia and she utterly blows it away. For her theatre fans, there are a couple of tracks from The Wild Party (a highly underappreciated musical), one of which was cut from the show, and I'm Not That Girl, from Wicked (which Julia is currently starring in on Broadway)

Overall, this is a fabulous album, her low notes will make you melt, and her versatility will surprise a lot of music-lovers.

5 out of 5 stars pretty damn good.......2007-03-08

I've seen this young lady on stage and heard the real power of her voice. The CD reveals much more of her range. A really excellent singer and the mix of material is very entertaining.

4 out of 5 stars Voice of a forceful angel.......2007-01-10

Having worn out my copy of the original off-broadway cast album of Andrew Lippa's Wild Party, you can imagine my excitement when Julia Murney's first solo album was released. The album is gorgeous with songs we have never heard plus new arrangements of songs we love including Raise the Roof from The Wild Party. Julia's voice is unlike any other voice in the musical theatre today. It has a ferocity unmatched by anyone but also has a sweet vulnerability that can break the strongest of hearts. (The song Perfect)I highly recommend this album to anyone who is sick of the same old tired broadway singers.
