With intense worship workouts, burning urban funk, lift-me-up choral anthems, and weepy ballads that never resort to cliché, Karen Clark Sheard's 2nd Chance is easily one of the best records of 2002. Sure, it doesn't hurt that contributors include famous (and insanely talented) people like Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Yolanda Adams. But it's the strength of Clark Sheard's strong, supple, and deliriously lovely singing voice (abetted by the power of her convictions) that really shines through on this dynamic album. At age 7, Karen was a founding member of the funky, exhilarating Clark Sisters--one of the only contemporary gospel groups to hold a candle to classic female gospel soul acts such as the Caravans and the Gospel Harmonettes--and she's been an award-winning solo performer since 1997. The album's title refers to a near-death experience the singer suffered after a surgical procedure in 2000, leaving her with a renewed sense of purpose. 2nd Chance is saturated with an overwhelming sense of joy, renewal, and above all, thanks. First let me just say that some of you folks are very judgmental. "Judge not for ye not be judged." The follow up to "Finally Karen" definitely has more of an edge to it. If you're not careful you'll find yourself on the expressway driving to work nodding your head to the bump and bass of "I've Been Changed" or the Missy Elliot composed, "Only Call On Jesus." But what's wrong with this when your bouncing to the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?

I like this CD because of it's appeal. Karen is the youngest of the legendary Clark Sisters. She manages to incorporate positive lyrics with a very bold urban sound. This is not a traditional gospel CD but it still carries the Word and reaches those that need to be reached (the youth) while trying hard not to ostracize the segment of her audience that's afraid of anything different in gospel music.

My favorites are:

"If I Can't Say A Word" (The breathy backgrounds remind me of Faith Evans - A huge Karen Clark fan - I can hear Karen's influence)

"Second Chance" (this one is beautifully arranged, especially the strings and it's Karen's personal testimony)

"A Secret Place" (Richard Smallwood & company are awesome)

"I Won't Let Go" (I just like Donlad Lawrence's uptempo songs)

This is a blessing in the form of music. I enjoyed the entire CD but Secret Place just took me to another level of worship.

I think this review is the best of all of of her albums because of the simple fact that she is extremely talented. This album highlights Karen Clark-Sheard as a minister first, then as an accomplished artist. I give this album five stars because that album is just what that is! I love it!

Whoa! This CD is great! Karen's voice is in top form and the songs (like 2nd Chance, So Good, Brand New Day, I've Been Changed) arewonderful! IF you are trying to decide, let me tell you GET IT! getitgetitgetit! If only for "A Secret Place"! mm-HM! Oh that song is so powerful! It really really is! I really recomend this to you!

AS SHE SINGS SHE LETS US ALL KNOW THAT GOD IS A F0RGIVING GOD AND THAT HE GAVE US ALL MORE CHANCES THAN 1. "2ND CHANCE" IS EXPLAINING THE TRIALS SHE FACED AND WENT THROUGH. YOU HAVE TO "BE SURE" THAT GOD IS ABSOLUTELY #1 IN YOUR LIFE.

This is a tight mixtape, but as my title says,"it could've..."; about 25% of the album contains songs off his other albums, with i believe 2 off his latest. The album also gives air time to the rest of the S.A.S crew, Mitchy Slick( Big Ups to SD619!)& Phil tha Agony are off the chain as lyricists, Krondon's aight, and Xzibit, well it's X to tha MUTHAPHUKKIN Z. Peep this album out.
Also just know that throughout the album, theirs an annoying ass promoter saying " Weapons of mass destruction, from Xzibit coming Dec.2004!", in my opinion it kills the song when you're playing it loud, think DJ Clue.
