Amazing CD.......2005-12-12

This CD is awesome! What a mystical experience. Perfect for relaxing to, reading to, doing Tarot to, doing ritual to, or just meditating to! It's going to be hard to find a CD that tops this one.

A treasure for the travel addict.......2001-12-17

As a travel writer, I've been enchanted by the music and spiritual ambience of places outside our normal range of experience in the US. This CD brings back all the mystery of the world's most enigmatic sites, from Kathmandu to Cairo, Spitsbergen to Patagonia, Hanoi to Nuku'alofa, and Jaisalmer to Moorea. It's a treasure.

Incredible CD. Really. If you want to take an international journey without artificial assistance (except your sound system), this album provides the trip. I was given this album several years ago by someone who doesn't like "new age" music. Yet, I would not classify this work in that category. I have only listened to the soundbites, provided by Amazon, to compare this album with Chris' other works. It is not the same. This is one of the best albums I own. When I am upset, cannot sleep or just need to change the subject in my head's jibberish--it's the only thing that works for me. Thanks Chris.

A mystical experience!.......1998-09-04

This cd ranks very highly as one of Chris' best works to date and receives my highest recommendation! The sounds, both vocal and instrumental, are soothing to the mind as well as the soul. Images of ancient temples will come to mind as you sit back and 'feel' the music.

Not his best effort.......1998-06-13

Pretty disappointing considering some of his earlier work, especially his collaborations with Paul Voudouris. I guess it's an attempt at a more ethnic style of new age music, but he has done much better.

Great CD Of Ancient And Mysterious Music.......2004-04-10

This is a great CD. I was afraid to buy it because of the low price. I thought I would get what I paid for. But I was pleasantly surprised. The music is ancient and mysterious sounding and you can close your eyes and imagine your are in ancient Egypt, Mexico, or China. I was impressed that the music was played by real people with acoustic instruments, rather then synthetic. You hear guitars, bass, lute, vox, drums, cymbals, didgeridoo and others good sounds. There is a variety of slow and upbeat songs. Program time is a generous 62 minutes. I highly recommend it.

One of the best death/doom metal albums of all time.......2005-05-25

This CD ranks up very high on my list of the all-time best death/doom metal releases... it's nearly up there with the early stuff from My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost. It's true that the production is a little bit dull, but the music more than makes up for it. Highly recommended.

Septic flesh is such an amazing band and i have been supporting them for quite a while now. "mystic places of dawn" is by far an release that should make you very proud, if your a lover of great music. I recommend!

No words can explain the fealing of this album. This is the best album Septic Flesh have released. This was the first Death metal album i bougth, and i will newer regret that. This album might not have the same good teknical sound as "Revoulutin DNA" or "Orphidian Weel", but the musical sound beats them both! I love all the septic albums, but this one tops it all! If you want to fly away to a dark mystical place, this album will take you away to a world you newer could belive existed. But it exists, thanks to this CD. BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT!

Mystic Places of Dawn shows that Septic Flesh can create abysmally dark and powerful music at any speed and create the ultimate metal mood. Lyrically and musically, this is SP's best album. Even at this albums most thrashingly intense moments, the instruments blend with a melodic sensibility and symmetry that lets the lstener trancend the raw energy of the beat and grinding guitars into a state of pure musical ecstacy. The only flaw of this album is its tendancy to repeat itself, so that by the later songs, you'll wonder if you've heard them before. But what great songs they are.

Walking the line between trad metal and power metal.......2006-03-08

Avalon is an interesting entry into the Euro metal pantheon. Rather than go for a singer who squeels like someone is grabbing his groin in a most unfriendly way, Avalon has a singer who actually belts out with some power, though little holding of notes, like a Chris Cornell for example. Many Sturner was out of the band on their subsequent releases but here he does a good job of keeping Avalon out of the power metal camp and more towards plain kicking butt.

Musically this is somewhat formulaic, we get regret and sorrow and epic feelings etc. So far so good. What lets the release down a little however is the fact that much of it doesn't grab the listener. My fave rages on this would have to be track 2 (and the first with vocals - yep, this is Euro product so you get a 'mood setting' instrumenal bit first up) and this track is called I'm Falling. Passion for Glory rolls along nicely straight after but personally, it all is a little stock standard until the visceral Wasted Time. Funnily enough Skid Row did a track called Wasted Time - utterly different tunes, but both capable of taking the listener to forbidding dark thoughts.

Fans of Euro metal will probably get an interesting listen out of this album as it does stand somewhat apart from the run of the mill power metal products out there. Especially if you've always craved a vocals with more grunt in your power metal bands (grunt as in timbre - not grunt as in grunted vocals a la death metal etc).
