Some good songs, but a bit repetitive.......2007-05-15
Got it after seeing everything is illuminated. It's got some good stuff, but alot of punky numbers I find boring.
gogol bordello is awesome.......2007-05-07
good for any occasion its just an astounding diaspora of cultural sound. I would recommend it to anyone.
Amazingly New Sound--and So Fun Too!!.......2007-04-05
I am in LOVE with they Gypsy Punk sound! So many elements to it...and you can't help but want to get up and dance. Wonderful music!
Like dropping a hand grenade into a box of kittens.......2007-02-07
In my first experience of Gogol Bordello, a friend layed a track on me, had me listen to it, loud, headphones on, without any explanation. Which, I must say in retrospect was just wrong. This album requires a full Surgeon General's Warning, advising those with a proclivity towards sensory induced migraines or temporal lobe siezures to lay down the iPod and step away. I mean, I don't want to say this highly energetic music is bad, but I sure don't have the correct anti-siezure meds to get through it. So, enjoy. It's all yours.
loud and beautiful.......2007-01-05
I had never actually heard of Gogol Bordello until I read a review in a magazine about them. I decided to check them out because the idea of Gypsy Punk intrigued me. I'm usually up for any type of music so I didn't hesitate to try them out. I was glad I did. The music is all so infectious that it's hard not to like them. Song after song I never grew tired of the unique blend of all the ingredients that make this album something you wont come upon very often in life.

Redefining the genre.......2007-05-26
Being sick of hear the same radio-friendly reggaeton I decided to try Tego after hearing some samples on iTunes. You cannot put this album in the same sack, this one is a awesome mix of latin music, salsa, reggae, hip-hop and rap.
Imaginative and well-thinked lyrics, nice flow and the risk to make different things make The Underdog/El subestimado a great album. The ony flaw is the lame collaboration with Yandel... I only pass this thing because he also make a song with salsa's "pharao" Oscar D'Leon, correcting his mistake. My final advice? Give this album a try!
Outstanding tracks: Slo mo', Payaso, Veo veo, Oh Dios.
The last one was better but still worth 12 bucks!!!!.......2007-04-02
This was another good enough outing for Tego but he could do much better. The guy is too good to just have okay albums they should all be instant classics and this one just isn't his break out cd "El Abayarde" was testament to his nastiness on the Mic. The last Cd had its moments this one does to but they just aren't as bright.
Modern without leting go tradition.......2007-01-10
Great reggeaton artist. With lots of caribbean flavor on his music. He doesnt forget about our origins, he fusions his music with african rithms.. very populars in the puertorrican community. Full of latin flavor. Even have one salsa song. Colaborates with Don Omar, Danny Fornaris, and other great reggeaton artist and compositors.
Creative Latin Hip-Hop Mix.......2006-10-28
Good job Tego, now drop the lame a**, two-beat, one-dimensional reggaetón garbage and go with the latin hip-hop and salsa beats. Tego shines and shows his true colors when he rhymes over the smooth hip-hop tracks. His talent is wasted when he does reggaetón. If he goes hip on his next album, he'll definately make a name for himself here in the states and may even surpass Daddy Yankee -- who is all image and no talent.

Having broken out of the shadow of DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline has truly evolved into a band locked into their own sound, and they shine like the sun on the band's fifth studio album. With Underdog, they maintain their humility through musical discipleship, but that doesn't preclude the band from having fun--their sound is now distilled to an infectious guitar and keyboard-sweetened rock with enough heaviness and soul to temper the tender sentiments rendered. The title cut, fuzzy, rhythmic rock & roll with rough edges, is one that'll get stuck in your head for days. "DC-10," long part of the band's repertoire, makes an appearance here, rockabilly-style. Jennifer Knapp's poignantly rendered guest vocals add just the right touch to the scratch-and-loop-laden treatment of the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul," and "Get Down" is a radio friendly gem that'll have listeners bouncing around like mad. --Paige La Grone

One of Christian Rock's All-Time Best.......2006-10-20
For those of you that read my other reviews, you'll find that 5 stars is a rare occurence for me. I do that because it is only once in a while that an album is simply a cut above all others being produced. "Underdog" is just that kind of album. Audio Adrenaline is a band that has always worked a variety of musical styles, with a consistent message of faith in Jesus Christ. But on this album, AA hits a pinnacle of performance in all of their divergent styles. Want classic rock? Here comes the title track. Catchy pop? You'll never get "Get Down" out of your head. Rockabilly? "DC-10" (a remake of their own song from their first album) is a tight, fun 50's romp. A call to mission? "Hands And Feet" is as compelling a call as you'll hear. Classic hymns? How about "It Is Well With My Soul"? And one of the most performed AA songs of all, the hilarious but wonderfully relevant "The Houseplant Song" gives people the ability to question how they're putting their faith into action while smiling the whole time. Quite simply, this is very close to being Christian rock's masterpiece, in the same category as DC Talk's "Jesus Freak", Jars of Clay's eponymous debut or Petra's "More Power To Ya". If you could only buy 5 Christian pop albums in your entire life, this really should be one of them.
a little too much the same........2006-05-24
This c.d is fairly good, but not great.I do like some of the songs, though.I like mighty good leader, underdog, get down and hands and feet. The rest of the songs are all pop or very soft rock.Iam still a big fan of aa's work!Don't get this c.d unless you are a die-hard fan.I would get don't censor me,bloom, zombie, hit parade or worldwide.thank you for reading this!
Outstanding!.......2006-05-08
If there is a better christian alternative rock album out there, I have yet to find it. The songs on this record are so well written and diverse. The songs not only have great melodies, but their words are powerful, convicting and very moving. This is some truely God-inspired music for a new, younger crowd.

Underdog Victorious is the kind of album that makes listeners feel smart. Catchy and upbeat, it connects instantly to spark a Friday-at-five vibe, but it also sinks in deep on several tracks. "Tel Aviv" takes on sex slavery ("I think of my mother / I send her what I can / She thinks I'm a waitress / She's proud I'm a waitress") and the title track hopeless dorkiness, with its fat-kid protagonist, but even the heavy-subject numbers have a way of veering hard toward the lighhearted. Sobule borrows generously from Chicago for "Cinnamon Park," a throwback stoner anthem that should have been the hit of the summer, and her sleepyheaded schoolgirl voice wins us over in its lovable-kook way as it struggles to keep pace with the kicky "Joey," about a has-been teen queen. Where other "quirky" musicians stagnate or flame out, Sobule only gets stronger. Underdog Victorious is her triumph-tinged proof that in the gets-better-with-every-album race, she's the rare real deal. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Delightful.......2006-11-11
I love Jill's work. She's underrated.
Her music is refreshing, humorous, thoughtful, honest with clarity & simplicity that just elevates the spirit.
GO JILL GO!
Great live, too!.......2005-12-04
I just saw Jill "on accident" last night, when she opened for my idol Cyndi Lauper in Lakewood, OH. She performed several songs from this CD, and she was a riot...what a great performer! Quite a few of her songs had the audience in stitches. Based on the material she performed last night (not to mention her sheer RAW talent, with just a guitar!), I'm definately going to add this CD to my collection, and Jill to my list of favorite performers.
Astute Observations.......2005-11-17
Jill Sobule has been a guilty pleasure of ours ever since her novelty, semi-hit, `I Kissed a Girl', the ninety's equivalent of `Girls Just Want to Have Fun'. In that song, Sobule displayed an attractive combination of wit, daring, sexiness, tunefulness, and fun, which have been trademarks of her work ever since. As if those attributes would not be reason enough to recommend a performer, Sobule's artistry extends much deeper than that, especially on this, her most fully realized album to date. She is as astute an observer of the human condition as, virtually, any songwriter out there and capable of conveying those observations with clarity, humor, compassion and grace. Perhaps the songwriter she most resembles is Randy Newman. Like Newman, Sobule frequently sings from the first person perspective of a character she has created-the struggling artist who still lives like a `Freshman', the young girl forced into prostitution in `Tel Aviv', the victim of a relationship doomed by cocaine use-always with a sensitivity, conciseness, and authenticity that, in a three plus minute song, is quite remarkable. Sobule cares about and identifies with the underdogs (as the cd title would indicate), most frequently of the female persuasion, not only of her own creation but real life ones like showbiz flash-in-the pan Joey Heatherton (on `Joey' on this cd) or star-crossed child-lover Mary Kay Latourneau (on `Mary Kay' from `Pink Pearl'). At the same time, Sobule, again like Mr. Newman, is also capable of writing something as lovely, simple and direct as `Tender Love' and `Nothing Natural'. As a musician, Sobule is truly versed in the pop canon. Her songs are always melodic and frequently beautiful with well-crafted performances and tight production. If there are caveats, they are her occasional tendency to drift toward the edges of `bubblegum' music and her Betty Boopish voice, which can be an acquired taste. We strongly urge you to take the time to acquire it, though, for this is a fine album by an undeservedly, underexposed artist-a true Underdog Victorious.
Not my cup of tea.......2005-09-01
When I heard Cinnamon Park I thought I was hearing a the new Weird Al Yankovich not the new Sharyl Crow. Ill keep it short as I just might be ill.
A young Sheryl Crow?.......2005-02-17
I bought this album because I liked her version of Underdog Victorious on Mountain Stage in Winter 2005. I was disappointed with the version of Underdog Victorious on this album. Her singing on the Mountain Stage show seemed more energetic and heartfelt whereas this album version seemed flat in comparison. The album in general just sounds like a really young Sheryl Crow.

This is how it might have sounded had Dusty Springfield followed Dusty in Memphis with Dusty in Nashville. A Georgia cop's daughter, Kelly Hogan started in the Rock*A*Teens, sang lead for Atlanta combo the Jody Grind, then moved to Chicago to work in the record biz. Her full-length solo debut, produced by Windy City pal Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers), is an ominous stockpiling of rockers, twangers, and torchy ballads, showcasing Hogan's absolutely stunning alto and girls-will-be-boys sense of humor. Her trio of original numbers complement an eclectic checklist of covers by some of Hogan's favorites, including Langford, Willie Nelson, the Band, Johnny Paycheck, Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn, and Boston pop icons Magnetic Fields. --Scott Holter
Album Description
On "Beneath the Country Underdog," Hogan gets the backing she deserves from insurgent country ass-kickers The Pine Valley Cosmonauts (featuring members of The Waco Brothers, The Mekons, and The Bottle Rockets) --with made-in-Chicago production by misanthropic Welsh badboy, Jon Langford. These 11 tracks -- ranging from Hogan's haunting originals, to covers of Johnny Paycheck, Willie Nelson, and The Magnetic Fields -- also feature a slew of hipster/hickster guest stars, including Neko Case, Edith Frost, John Wesley Harding, and Robbie Fulks.
Customer Reviews:
great album.......2007-06-09
She has a sweet voice and has compiled a group of meaningful, soulfull songs. Her Rodeo cover is my favorite- what more can I say.
Great Voice Not Always Put to Best Use.......2005-03-08
If heard a couple decades ago, this CD would pass muster as classic country with the originals built from the same throwback sound as the covers that make up the majority of the tracks. Production and playing are excellent, but, to my listening at least, Kelly Hogan's vocals are curiously passionless on some cuts. She is very strong on the raucous It's a Mighty Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Papa Was a Rodeo, Crackers Rule (perhaps the single best cut), and Whispering Pines. But in some of the other ballads (I Still Can't Believe You're Gone and her own Gone, for example) she sounds tentative, as if she's so concerned about going over the top that she checks her emotion at the studio door. And Wild Mountain Berries is just the cutesy kind of song that makes mainstream country such a tuneout now. Even with those criticisms, however, Beneath the Country Underdog is a strong CD.
Quality alt-country music.......2004-09-16
If this album had been recorded in the seventies, it would have been classified as country-rock. Being recorded at the end of the old millennium, it is classified as alt-country, a genre that includes country-rock but is not limited to it.
Many of the songs here are covers including It's a mighty thin line between love and hate (Johnny Paycheck), I still can't believe you're gone (Willie Nelson, from his album Phases and stages), Easy loving (Freddie Hart), Wild mountain berries (Peggy Scott), Sudden stop (Percy Sledge) and Whispering pines (The Band). None of these songs have been over-covered and I'm sure that some listeners to this album have never heard any of these songs before. Perhaps the most famous song among them is Easy loving, which was a major country success in the early seventies, winning CMA song of the year two years running. You might expect that it would have been covered more often than it actually has, but although I like the song, I never thought it was a classic.
Kelly co-wrote three of the other songs (I don't believe in you, Crackers rule, Gone), while Jon Langford (the producer) wrote Mystery. The remaining song, Papa was a rodeo, written by Stephen Merritt, may also be an original.
This is a fine album with a nice mix of songs that should appeal to fans of the early Eagles albums.
Soul music with a country heart.......2002-05-29
Kelly Hogan has one of the greatest voices you're ever likely to hear, one that can catch any tune thrown at it and turn it inside out. I first heard her on the tune "Drunkard's Blues" from the wonderful Bob Wills tribute album by the Pine Valley Cosmonauts. She was astonishing there and just as good here. This album is mostly covers, with a couple of choice originals thrown in for good measure. Kelly knocks you out on "A Mighty Thin Line Between Love and Hate", a killer country rock tune. I could go on and on with each tune. But special note must be made for her cover of the Magnetic Fields' "Papa Was A Rodeo", which is heartbreaking and beautiful and tops the already lovely original. Grab this one.

Great pop music.......2006-01-09
This is not punk. This is not pop-punk. This is great pop music. This EP doesn't sound like One For The Kids and it doesn't sound like Ocean Avenue either. From what I hear, Lights and Sounds won't sound anything like it either. The only thing that would've made this EP better is if it had just one or maybe two more songs. I highly suggest it to anyone who is looking for something fresh to listen to. I love this EP.
Awesome EP Possibly YC's BEST!.......2005-07-24
This short 5 song EP, by Yellowcard should be their defining collection.Every song gets in your head and stays. Especially the elaborate...."Powder".any yellowcard fan should pick this up if at all possible!!!
Wow.......2005-07-22
This cd is soooo amazing, 5 songs isn't enough! I could easily do with 50 more. It's hard to explain how awesome this music is, you just have to listen to it. It is uplifting, and, without a doubt, better than Ocean Avenue. Now, don't get me wrong, i love Yellowcard and Ocean Avenue is still a great album, it just can't even compare to this stuff. Their singing, playing, and just the style is much better on this cd, it's just.... different. An amazing cd, a must-have for anyone who doesn't already own it. Anyone who enjoys some good pop-punk (or any alternative-type genre, for that matter) and having cd's in their player for long periods of time should go out and buy this A.S.A.P! Happy listening!
Perfect EP!.......2005-01-12
I would have to admit this is a perfect album. I wish there were more songs on it. Powder is my favorite because I can relate to it because of friends with drug addictions. Avondale is a different song but the riffs in it are amazing and would suggest this album to anyone!!!
Fabulous Album!.......2004-12-10
I bought this album shortly after seeing Yellowcard in concert in Seattle at The Premier. They rocked and so does this album. I also own the other albums the Yellowcard has released. The Underdog LP is nothing short of amazing. It has excellent recording quality and the songs are awesome. I love the beautiful marriage of the classical and smooth violin and the punk rock origin of the songs. I would definitly recommend buying this album. And don't hesitate to visit their website to get to know the band a little better!

summer jam.......2003-10-05
i think that the song summer jam by underdog project is excellent. its the best song ive heard and i think its great. this song deserves to win anything for being so good. its the type of song that you could listen to over and over again without getting bored and it is also suitable for anyone. it helps you feel more relaxed and has a great tune to it. Whatever mood you are in, this song is great to listen to. i think that anyone aged 10 or above could say the same. the title of the song is also very unique and sounds great. i have rated the song 5stars because i really do think that is so good.

The Perfect Antidote to Too Much Work Load.......2007-03-24
Singers and Players are one of the least known, most underrated and best dub collaborations of all time and Revenge of the Underdog is one of their finest recordings. With Adrian Sherwood at the production helm, success seems likely as a matter of course. Add in the likes of Prince Far I plus the staple On U crew and you know you have something special.
It's difficult to pick out a particularly good tune, because they are all outstanding.
Dub doesn't get much better than this.
Wicked Dub.......2002-05-10
Reggae superband Singers and Players is
the result of a collective effort of some
of the most legendary names in reggae
music. Featuring the late Prince Fari,
Bim Sherman, members of the roots radics,
and the unparalleled production skills of
Adrian Sherwood, this early eighties release
is a classic. Because his productions were
so experimental, Sherwood displayed post-dates
ten years in advance on ON-U Sounds label's
album sleeves. It's 2002 and you still won't
hear many recordings as far-out-of-the-box.
