This product was delivered in a very timely manner, in excellent condition. This young lady has an extrodinary voice and the product shows that off. I would most definately buy from this seller again.
Renee's first try at singing.......2007-04-06
Renee was only 13 when this CD come out, but supplementing my review on her Reprise debut, this CD is just as good. Although 3 song on here are also represented on her 2004 CD, she shows a more stripped down sound than on her David Foster produced release. She also displays a mature sounding voice even at 13. Until "Skylark" comes out, hopefully this month, this disc should satisfy your jones for Renee Olstead's music.
Fantastic.......2007-03-30
What a great CD by a Great singer. Cannot understand why the radio stations are not playing this fantastic singer. This is a must have for everyones collection. The only thing I could possibly bad is that there is not enough songs on here. I have her self-titled and it a great listen. Cannot wait to hear what else this talented singing has to offer.
WOW.......2007-02-07
Anyone who enjoys the original Renee Olstead album should be buying this up instantaneously! This was the mini-precursor album to Renee Olstead and it shows; you can still feel more of the raw soul rather than the refined jazz singer, but the songs look and feel very appropriate for the age in which they were first created. Olstead brings them to life as if this WERE the golden age of jazz. Thanks for this phenomonal CD, it never leaves my truck!
Great Singer, Too much bass in recording.......2007-01-28
Renee Olstead is wonderful in this CD, the music quality is poor, but I'd like to see more by her, I also have her second CD which is fantastic.

k.d. lang has spent her eccentric career pitching between twin poles of desire--torch (jazz/blues) and twang (retro country), and artistry and flamboyance. On Live by Request, she revisits the best of her shimmering repertoire, from her rough-edged cowpunk days to her current gossamer soundscape. But at the start of the set, recorded December 2000 at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, she threatens to diminish her own impact with a lumpy, rushed rendition of "Summerfling" and a cartoonish version of "Big Boned Gal." Soon, however, she settles down to do what she does best, which is seduction. While a way-too-melodramatic arrangement spoils "Don't Smoke in Bed," she goes on to bring goose-bump intimacy to "The Consequences of Falling" and "Constant Craving," one of popular music's most aching songs of longing laid bare. By the time she turns her exquisite soprano to the howling chorus of "Barefoot," the earth doesn't just move, Ernest, it trembles--a prelude to the staggeringly emotional affect of "Pullin' Back the Reins." When she gets to that one, don't be surprised if your stereo starts to smoke. --Alanna Nash

Great CD by k.d. lang.......2007-07-05
I enjoyed this tape of hers so much. A co-worker(my supervisor)is also a fan of k.d. lang. When I was on vacation, she borrowed my cd and said it was the best one so far.....I agree. k.d. lang will be performing LIVE out here and on my supervisors birthday...so I bought a second one for her and we will be going to her concert!!!
BETTER THAN COFFEE AND CIGARETTES.......2007-04-26
I've owned this album since its release several years ago. Been a k.d. fan for years, even back when she was Country. I listen to this album while painting or roadtripping. Played it recently on a long 3 hour drive, and it still moves me. Her raw and bold vocals are amazing, especially on the Roy Orbison ballad, Crying, and at the very end of Three Cigarettes. I practically hold my breath while listening to these songs because they are so breath-taking.
She is such a versatile singer, and this album is the first to offer up a little of every genre that she has become a part of. There are the whimsical country tunes from her Nashville days, the slow country twang ballads you never hear anymore, the moody jazz lounge numbers that she treats us to every once in a while, and the soulful folk music that only k.d. can do right.
True k.d. fans have probably added this one to their collection long ago. If you are new to Ms. Lang, this is an excellent CD to start with. You will get addicted!
knocked my socks off!.......2005-12-08
Wow, was I impressed. I've heard songs by k d lang before and always appreciated her range and ability to get so deep into the emotions of her songs. I just spent an hour mezmerized by k d lang in her dvd "live by Request".
As a former performer I can appreciate the nuances her voice takes on, but watching her perform, (while she'll never be a great on stage "presence" as far as connecting with her audience in conversational aspects)like many other artists, she doesn't need to! She had the folks in the audience alternately jumping to their feet in standing ovations or absolutely silent in their respect for her voice and her style, which is the greatest applause an audience can give. She gave me chills.
There's a song from years ago something about artists want to sing and singers want to dance and dancers want to yak, yak, yak! The author says, don't talk, just sing!
That's more than enough for me. I am awed by her talent.
May she continue to "knock my socks off"!
Soulless.......2005-12-03
She has a great voice, the songs are good songs and the band is very competent but the record just doesn't work. It is just plain boring like kd is phoning it in Maybe an off night for her, I don't know but this CD ain't worth the price of a blank.
CANADIAN singer...k.d. LANG...shines on this CD!.......2004-09-01
k.d. LANG's...voice is just as great as the other Canadian song birds...Celine Dion...and...Sarah McLachlan.
She has sung country , pop , rock...ect...all with a STELLER VOICE that gives one, goose bumps!
This product captures her at her best , LIVE , and has the song...CRYING...and the best songs from most of her CDS.
ALSO GET : the DVD by the same name or buy the DVD , the...HARVEST OF SEVEN YEARS...for her earlier work.
The , "ALBERTA ROSE" knows how to sing with the very best of them.
For her older country/punk and TORCH hits get the NEW CD...REINTARNATION...and her DVD called * HARVEST OF SEVEN YEARS *

Good popular music........2005-08-14
The interesting issue about this recording is that Williams himself directs. It is always a plus to listen to music played by its author. Average performance by the orchestra.
Still great!.......2005-07-23
John Williams has the magic of translating music from movies. Even not watching the movies themselves, you can still understand what's happening because of the music that comes with it.
I'm happy the music industry compiled this marvellous CD together. It has all the greatest hits like Luke and Leia, Indiana Jones march and the star wars main theme. These songs are really some of the great examples of Williams' finest.
Even if the music isn't really that clear in movies, it's still gives a great impact on the stories. If you watch a movie made up of only dialogues and fights, what's the thrill, we can see fights anytime anywhere. So the element that makes the movies really attractive and interesting is the music itself.

Great Performances as well as Music.......2005-04-06
When I picked up this CD I was amazed. I am a big Williams fan and love the Boston Pops. All the pieces are well done and flawless (except for some small tempo issues in "1941") Though all the peices stand out the handsdown best is "The Cowboys" Overture. The ritch sound as well as the great musicmanship make this a joy to here. Another good highlight is the "Midway" March. Midway was a relitivley underated score being in the middle of "Jaws" and "Star Wars" (Both of witch are also on the CD but, Jaws could have had solid feeling but is otherwise performed rather great) The rousing March in my opinion is as rousing as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "Superman" (Both yet again are on the CD and Superman's opening is absolutly breathtaking even better than the actual soundtrack. The Trumpet and French Horn fanfare makes you yourself visualize the might of the man of steel himself. But the Midway march is given a stunning representaion with the ritch, lush sound of the Boston Pop's brass section. The CD also has some of John Williams music for the concert stage such as the well known Olympic Fanfare (1984 Los Angeles), The Liberty Fanfare as well as the Mission Theme (The NBC news anthem) all offer a nice break from the movie scores. The only down side to the CD is that because it was made in 1987 it doesn't have music from Hook, Far and Away, Schindler's List and of course Jurassic Park. But even though it lacks Williams' early 90's scores its always a Joy to listen to as well as a treat for the ears. So i give it two thumbs up and *****.
I advise any John Williams/Boston Pops fan not to let this gem slip through their fingers! ;)
Grandioso.
Williams at His Finest....as of 1987.......2003-07-13
For fans looking for a sampler of John Williams' music circa 1987, this CD is a treasure trove of selected movie and special occasion themes. While not as comprehensive as Sony Classical's Greatest Hits 1969-1999 collection, there is enough variety to satisfy even the most casual Williams fan. Included here among his famous themes (Star Wars, ET, Superman, and Raiders of the Lost Ark) are his 1984 Olympic Fanfare, "The Mission" (NBC News theme), and the rousing Overture to the John Wayne film The Cowboys. As always, the Boston Pops Orchestra shines under the baton of Hollywood's -- and America's -- favorite composer!

This is a compilation--plus three previously unreleased selections--of some of the glorious Renée Fleming's finest work, 15 selections covering 13 composers. The rose-in-full-bloom quality of the voice is staggeringly beautiful: Her rendition of Rusalka's "Song to the Moon" is justly famous and is, alone, worth the price of this CD. Other highlights are Marietta's Lied from Korngold's Die tote stadt, an odd arrangement of the aria from Villa-Lobos's Bachianas Brasilerias No. 5, Manon's Gavotte, and a knock-down-gorgeous reading of Gershwin's "Summertime." The three new recordings are of Violetta's big first-act scene from La traviata, which features one of the most perfect trills heard since Joan Sutherland, a thrilling Cäcilie (R. Strauss), and a version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" which is so over the-top that it might make you look away in embarrassment. On the basis of this CD, one would have to acknowledge that Fleming is more interested in--and more successful at--pure singing than she is at character delineation (Butterfly sounds oddly like Wally who sounds too much like Norma), but it's not hard to tell why she's a superstar. Her voice and technique are one in a million. --Robert Levine

Customer Reviews:
Not all the arias were her best.......2005-01-15
There is something lacking. Although most of these are indeed her "Best" releases, some things could have been left out. Her O Mio Babbino Caro and her Casta Diva weren't her best efforts at all. Casta Diva, sung to perfection by other revered artists, sounded too breathy and fearful here. It has good chest notes, and it is definitely better than Joan Sutherland's Norma though. Her O Mio Babbino Caro is the usual aria sung in its usual way, without leaving any trace of awe at an ability of a singer to interpret the aria. Rachmaninov's Vocalise was good, and it was great of Decca to release her Song to the Moon on this disc. However, some new additions weren't all that good as well. For example, if you listen to her excerpt from La Traviata, you will find that she sounds like she was singing jazz when uttering out "Gioir!". I think Decca should have issued the live performance version of this instead. That was so much better. Also, they should have showcased more of the bel canto repertoire she had specialized in. That would have made this CD a gem!
DIDN'T QUITE FULFIL MY REQUEST.......2004-11-22
THIS CD DEFINITELY BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN HER REPERTOIRE. SHE IS SOLID, WARM, AND BRILLIANT ON MOST OF THE SONGS. SINCE I OWN MANY OF HER CDS MOST OF THE TRACKS I HAVE IN DUPLICATE. EVEN SO EACH VERSION HAS A DIFFERENT FEEL TO IT. HER "O MIO" IS GREAT BUT GENERALLY I FEEL THAT KIRI TE KAWANA IS A LITTLE CLEARER THAN RENEE. HER "Ebben?...Ne Andrò Lontana" IS ALWAYS BRILLIANT FROM HER HIGH ENDS TO THE NECESSARY LOW NOTES TO FINISH THIS GLORIOUS TRACK. HER COUNTESS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A STRONG AND POWERFUL CHARACTERIZATION AND HER BUTTERFLY TEETERS ON HAPPINESS AND PAIN. THESE RICH LYRIC ROLES DESERVE A SOPRANO LIKE RENEE. I WAS HOWEVER, VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT SHE ADDED "SEMPRE LIBERA" TO THIS CD AS SHE'S NEVER BEEN A COMPELLING VIOLETTA AND CAN'T EVEN MUSTER THE HIGH "C" WE ALL EXPECT NOW A DAYS. HER RUSALKA IS ALWAYS MESMERIZING AND HER SIMPLICITY ON GLUCK'S "Das Mir Verblieb" WAS AN INCREDIBLE SURPRISE. I FOUND THE OTHER SONGS BORING DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DON'T LIKE THEM AND I KIND OF WISHED SHE WOULD HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH SOME BETTER WORKS. I MISSED HER SOFT AND DEFEATED "AVE MARIA" FROM OTHELLO OR HER FULL BODIED SPOILED MUSETTA IN "QUANDO MEN VO" OR HER RICH SADNESS IN "DOVE SONO"
Fair Enough .......2004-10-01
This is a compilation. I can't say love them I think thatpeople want to be surprised by new things, instead of um things they already own.On the other hand a die hard fan wouldn't mind having an extra cd by their favorite artist.Fair Enough. There was one aria that was new to me"Cantilena Brasileras"by Villa Lobos that was very striking. Her voice flows like an unimpeded stream with a lush vibrato.Like I read in one kid's review "Renee has a silky, creamy, instrument that is very beautiful and caresses the ear",couldn't have said it better myself. I agree. One smart kid!!! One thing that I have to comment on that will not escape is the dull cover picture. Renee get a better photographer;you're far more beautiful than that. I'm sounding like her mother, dear lord! She is a fox!
Fleming's High Points Well Covered in Compilation CD.......2004-09-06
Just one listen to the high points of this disc will make you realize why Renée Fleming is an opera superstar. Covering a ten-year period, this compilation disc covers a most fertile period for Fleming, absolutely one of the world's leading lyric and dramatic sopranos. What is particularly impressive is how many different styles she has covered, ranging from Italian bel canto to French Romanticism to Rodgers & Hammerstein. She effortlessly sings in six different languages, including what sounds like flawless Czech on Dvorak's "Měsíčku na nebi hlubokén" (which goes back to her family roots). Her powerful voice is expressive, almost buttery, which allows the listener to enjoy the coloratura agility she has mastered over the years and the tonal qualities she specifically defines for each aria. This is most evident on my two personal favorites - "Ebben?...Ne scoglio" from Catalani's "La Wally" (which will sound familiar to fans of the French eighties noir film, "Diva") where her crystalline voice complements the increasing power of the melody, and the haunting "Mariettas Lied" from Korngold's "Die tote Stadt".
Fleming also has a good sense of the characters she is portraying, for instance, on the "La traviata" aria, "È stano...Ah, fors'è lui...Sempre libera", one gets a strong sense of Violetta's conflict between the attractions of true love versus the free life of a courtesan. She also gets some sturdy help from tenor Joseph Calleja as Alfredo in this piece. But even in this number, the effect of her daunting runs and trills can be a bit overwhelming. She does keep this in check with the slower-paced tracks like "Casta diva" from Bellini's "Norma", which uses a choir in the background to great effect, and Rachmaninov's lovely "Vocalise". The well-worn "Summertime" from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" is nicely covered here, and it certainly invites comparisons to even Leontyne Price's definitive version. Fleming ends the disc with a rousing version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "You'll Never Walk Alone" from "Carousel" that grows a bit too bombastic for listening comfort. Regardless, this disc provides a nice sampling of what this truly great singer has done over the past decade. A treat for her fans and highly recommended for anyone who wants an ideal introduction to her range of talent.
Beautiful indeed!.......2004-07-19
I'm very happy with this CD. She has a lovely voice! And what a fox! ;)

I first heard this CD while recieving a massage a few years ago. I think I loved the CD more than my massage! I am now a massage therapist myself, and I knew I had to use this CD for my clients. I get so many comments about how lovely this CD is, and I never get bored listening to it while giving a massage. Even though some parts of songs are faster than massage music is suppose to be, no one seems to notice or care.
The Power of Emile's Music.......2002-11-15
I was in a Stardust store in metro-Atlanta when I heard a "Phantom of the Opera" medley in the background. That medley haunted me for weeks. I was rather poor then; but with my next paycheck, I returned to that store to buy that tape. There were two tapes in that store that had the "Phantom" medley. I bought them both. The first tape I listened to was not it. I started listening to the second tape. It started with "Somewhere in Time", and I knew right off that this was the tape I really wanted. The music overwhelmed me in its crisp clarity, the audio illusion of 15+ fingers playing, and emotion upon emotion. And hearing the Phantom medley in full stereo nearly blew my mind. Such incredible music by - of course - Emile Pandolfi.
The power of Emile's music? Allow me to recount but one example. I was with a friend whose son was killed - an innocent bystander - during a shooting at a holdup. No need to describe the mood she had been in for some time since the incident. Shortly after buying Emile's "By Request" tape, I sat her down and had her listen to the Phantom medley. During that 7+ minutes, I witnessed her running the gamut of emotions, trembling, tears falling freely - what struck me as a complete release of her emotions. As a friend, I was holding her hand as the number reached its conclusion. Then I noted a calm, peaceful countenance about her. I later learned that this music had released something in her - eased her pain - thus enabling her to start moving on with her life. And not too long after this, she had remarried, moved to Texas and was one extremely happy woman.
The power of music? Listen to Emile's music and see for yourself.
By Request.......2000-11-11
This is the most amazing CD I've ever heard. You can just "see" Pandolfi playing the piano. You can feel the passion he puts into each piece. It will relax you or invigorate you. We put it on in the car and play it every single day. We never get tired of it. In fact, we love it more each time we hear it.
Excellent.......2000-07-03
I've had this on an old cassette for years, and I've worn it out. I play it whenever I need to escape.
I Keep Giving It Away!.......2000-06-22
Every time I buy this album and one of my friends hears it, I end up giving it away! It's not easily found in stores so I'm glad to see it offered on Amazon.com. After a stressful day at work, I get into the car, slip this CD in and feel the stress float away. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys piano.

Splendid.......2007-02-25
One of the best love songs ever. I'm a 79-year-old music lover who's heard 'em all and this one is a heart-breaker.
At Any Moment...enjoyable.......2006-02-11
Most people know 'At This Moment' from 'Family Ties'. Fortunately for me, that is how I first heard it and I am so grateful. I might never have sought out more Billy Vera music and I would have missed out on some great stuff.
My favorites on this CD are 'At This Moment' (of course) and 'Hopeless Romantic', but the other songs are solid pieces performed well.
Billy Vera and the Beaters might not be classic rock or even classic music, but they are a tight band who perform well. Their work is totally enjoyable.
Good stuff.......2004-05-20
I sought out this album after hearing "At this moment" on the radio many years ago (I'm a sucker for a good heartbreak song) and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the music throughout. The great thing is that the horns play as an ensemble, not just good soloists. Yes, "Here comes the dawn" gets a little old after a while but it's effective. Just a darn good band overall. Great tunes, great spirit and enthusiasm and obviously a good time was had by all in attendance. A classic set.
No one does it better than BV and the boys.......2003-03-30
If you want a taste of true non-commercial California sound, pick this one up. It is full of live tracks and very few studio tracks. The band was a well kept secret for years until 1986 when 'At This Momment' was played on Family Ties. Radio stations wanted a copy of the song to play for their listeners. The rest, as they say, is music history. Billy Vera and The Beaters live and breathe music. They are constantly playing dates to the fans that appriciate them, and they will appear in the places you least expect them to be. You might hear them do a TV theme song, or appear in a movie, or talk show. For a time, I also had their little known, out-of-print, Retro Nuevo. Still, this one is always the best for rainy days. And there are plenty to like, such as 'At This Momment', 'Hopeless Romantic', and 'Here Comes The Dawn Again' (I like Billy's opening words on that one). When it comes to California, no one does it better than Billy Vera and the Beaters.
A must have.......2003-01-21
Lots of good tunes like inthe corner of the night, at this moment.
The song "here comes the dawn again" is definitely the best peace of music ever written and performed.
Stunning performance. Brilliant musicians. Hear it once and you will hear it over and over again.

Fun music.......2006-06-28
Now, with so many electronic musical instruments, it is fun to listen to one of the origanals.
Still Crazy After All These Years.......2004-01-21
As the Ultimate Carlos Fan and an analog synthesist, I was elated to discover that By Request, which I've had since it appeared on vinyl, was at last available on CD. I'm happy to report that it is just as good now as it was almost three decades ago. That's right--three decades!
The music on this well-remastered CD still shines even though songs like "What's New Pussycat?" are no longer in vogue. The CD is a hodgepodge of various tunes from Bach to Beatles supposedly requested by listeners after The Well Tempered Synthesizer was released. The result may only only be mildly interesting to the occasional listener, but to followers of electronic music, it's like rediscovering a lost gem.
The three dances from The Nutcracker aren't particular standouts by Carlosian standards, nor are some of the other selections. Suffice it to say of the album that when it is good, it is very very good, and when it is bad it is merely good. Here are random notes on some of the more interesting pieces:
"Dialogues" and "Episodes" are early piano/synth pieces in the academic style. They will NOT appeal to some listeners, but they are well composed and extremely well performed, given the difficulty of creating electronic music back then.
"What's New Pussycat?" of Bacharach fame is another early Moog piece that is about as "Moogy" as Carlos has ever gotten. The Moog waa-waa filter cliche normally shunned by Carlos is here put to playful use in a chorus of drunken cats. I can't listen to this piece without smiling at the obvious good humor and sense of fun behind it.
"Geodesic Dance" remains one of my all-time favorites and appears here in all its modernistic glory. The piece is beautifully composed and full of the spatial and dynamic subtleties that set Carlos' analog work leagues above the rest. It ranks with "Timesteps" and "Country Lane" from the later Clockwork Orange album as thoroughly competent and quintessentially Carlos.
The CD's Big Finale, of course, is "Pompous Circumstances," a playful send-up of the Elgar classic performed in a wide variety of styles. Once again, Carlos' talent as a composer and consummate synthesist shine through, along with a dose of good humor. It's a pastiche, but not without it's serious moments, which might be why it's such a satisfying work.
Given the extreme difficulty and tedium of recording on a monophonic analog synthesizer--where changing a sound means striking a patch that may have taken hours to create and starting all over again--it's a wonder that the outcome could sound so good. But Carlos is a perfectionist and it shows on this album as it does on all of the Moog works. I confess that Carlos' digital music sounds flat and mundane to me and doesn't stand up to repeated listening. The analog works, for all their difficulty, continue to sound fresh and spirited. My request for Wendy's next "By Request" album would be to do another one like this--all analog.

Album Description
Cape Breton By Request : This series of compilations are musical collections aimed at preserving Cape Breton recordings and promoting local singers, songwriters and musicians. These songs are an integral part of the island's popular culture: some have reached an international audience; others are local favourites. All offer a glimpse, a musical snapshot, of that magical kingdom known as Cape Breton Island.
Many of these recordings are no longer in distribution. Others are hard to find or available only on vinyl lps. Cape Breton By Request brings together many of these musical rarities along with some of the most exciting music being made on the island today.
Cape Breton By Request Volume 2 combines old favourites such as Plain Ole Miner Boy and The Legend Of Kelly's Mountain with such contemporary classics as Matt Minglewood's Me and the Boys and J.P. Cormier's Another Morning. Here, on CD for the first time, are Sam Moon's Midday Matinee, Miller's Jug's Ghost of Bras d'Or and Fred Lavery's Song For Noel.
This collection also features Doris Mason with Leon Dubinsky's anthemic One World (a worthy follow-up to Rise Again), Cheticamp's Ronald Bourgeois with Amène le vent and Howie MacDonald's classic fiddle treatment of The Skye Boat Song. Other artists include musical legends Rita MacNeil and John Allan Cameron, McGinty, Cyril MacPhee, Maxine MacLeod and Buddy and the Boys.

ARE YOU PEOPLE ALL DEAF OR ON DRUGS?????.......2006-01-20
The only song that sounds decent on here is Heart of Glass but the guys should sing on it like on the album. Call Me is a mess. Clem Burke is still an awesome drummer- one of the best- but even he can't always save this ensemble. I have seen them twice live and both times I was disappointed. They should make more of an effort to sound like the albums. I was a kid in the 70's and 80's and never saw them back then... but Deborah Harry's voice just isn't strong anymore. I like the fact that they got back together but if I'm being honest they just aren't that great anymore. And they would be more interesting to watch if they really reunited and brought back Nigel Harrison and Frank Infante and not have these stand-ins. Jimmy Destri seems to have suddenly stopped touring with them too.
Blondie's toughest live album yet.......2006-01-05
This Cd is my favorite Blondie live cd. It has a very raw, tough rock sound which reminds us of Blondie's punk roots. It sounds more rock and roll than the 1999 live cd. comparing to the latter, the following songs sound much better here : Hanging on the telephone, Rapture,X Offender, Dreaming, etc. However I have two things to complain about, what happened to atomic and maria?? If people actually requested the songs played in this concert, i am surprised that maria and atomic were not requested!
and the Heart of glass version on this cd is very week comparing to the 1999 live cd.
Other than that, this cd proves why Blondie is making it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
SOLID BLONDIE PERFORMANCE!.......2005-02-24
Do you recall "Rapture", "Call Me", "One Way Or Another", "Heart Of Glass", or "Dreaming". Well they are all here in this great live performance back in 2004. Some songs are from the new album THE CURSE OF BLONDIE. Debbie performs "Presence Dear" just like it was 1977 again! So if you love Blondie get this cd and check it out! Live is always the best!
Remarkably Strong Performance.......2004-12-31
It's been nearly 30 years since the first Blondie album was released, and they're still making music. What I like about Blondie is that they still have a certain rough-around-the-edges charm when they perform live. Their performances are not weighed down with slick production values, which is how rock bands are supposed to be.
The song selection is excellent, with "The Dream's Lost On Me" emerging as a surprising standout.
All in all, a terrific album.
Kinda bleh.......2004-10-07
I've been a very serious Blondie fan since I was, um, about ten years old. Debbie's older than my mom, in fact.
But I have to say, this album is solidly in the "they shouldn't have bothered" category. The band sounds good, but let's be honest: It's now down to Chris and Clem, plus Debbie. Sure, Nigel and Frank were hired guns, but AHEM. Jimmy is EVERY BIT AS MUCH Blondie as Debbie. It is NOT THE SAME without him.
Anyhow, the band does sound pretty good here. I've never thought the live versions of "Heart of Glass" or "Call Me" were worth performing, since the guys have never once even approached the energy or vibe of the recorded versions.
Debbie sounds as good as she has for 8 years or so, which is to say not bad, but not what you should expect from a perfessional singer. "Call Me" is embarrassing, frankly.
So I don't really know. I really like the newest studio album quite a bit, but this one is just not worthy of a commercial release. Don't suppose I can blame them for cashing in on one of the most thrilling legacies from the '70s downtown NYC scene. But Blondie wasn't a tight live band at the height of its powers. This recording shows those 20+ years have passed.

Little Miss Dynamite Shines on This Fantastic Two-Fer!.......2006-07-01
I loved these two albums 40 years ago when I first purchased on vinyl (Mono). I played them so often they developed a lot of pops and snaps but by the time I set out to replace them many of Brenda's albums were no longer available. I searched for over 25 years at record shows with some success, but a mint or unopened Stereo copy of "Let me Sing" eluded me. How wonderful to now have this superb CD with both of these great albums from around 1963 or 64 in Stereo. The cover art and booklet are great too. I also own the other ACE releases of Brenda's early albums and I hope they will consider releasing a few more as their are several more original Decca album titles that have never been released on CD (Top Teen Hits-1964, Too Many Rivers-1965, Bye Bye Blues-1966, and Coming On Strong-1967). These albums were not as big as her earlier ones but still had many hits on them and fantastic covers of then current songs done only the way that Brenda Lee could do it. They were all produced by the Legendary Owen Bradley. As far as this CD goes, it is basically 1960's easy pop or what today would be called Adult Contemporary. Brenda's version of "At Last" is my favorite of all the many versions recorded; Her million selling hits "Break it to me Gently" and "Losing You" are included along with "As Usual" and "I Wonder" from the "By Request" album. I also greatly enjoy "Our Day Will Come", "Why Don't You Believe Me", "There Goes My Heart", "The End of The World", & "You're The Reason I'm Living". These songs sound as good now as they did the first time I heard them. Brenda Lee had (and still has) one of the most powerful voices and unique styles of any female singer out there and was the top Pop Female Vocalist of the 60's according to Billboard Magazine. These early albums are great treasures and I highly recommend this CD.
