Classic Everly - A Must for all their Fans.......2007-02-18
Treat yourself to the sweet harmonies of the Everly Brothers, with a CD that has been remastered to underscore their pure sound. Played this for my musician son in law who was not familiar with their music and he is so impressed. All the hits are here, sounding better than ever. An outstanding addition to your collection --
The BEST Everly Brothers album you will ever need, .......2007-01-10
Long ago in californialand, i heard the last everly brothers "hit", on the wings of a nightingale, 1 time and i knew I HAD to have it. Took me about 20 years to find it, in this album. If you really like good music, with tight harmonies, good guitar work, words you can understand, a little bit of country and early rock to the still bitchin, fresh, updated sound of nightingale, then STOP RIGHT HERE and get this album. Enough said!
Everly Brothers, best of.......2007-01-09
The Millennium collection seems to have the songs I always want from a group or artist. The quality of the sound is there everytime. As the local music stores disappear it is good to be able to trust a system like this as I replace much of my vinyl for a CD collection. This CD gives me what I want for the Everly Brothers in one purchase.
The Best.......2004-04-01
Any fan who appreciates the Everly Brothers has to have
this album. The remastered sound is superb of course, but
the deciding factor on this one should be the inclusion
of their last hit, after more than 20 years had passed since
their previous one.
After the team reunited, one of their biggest fans wrote
a song especially for them. Paul McCartney wrote "Wings of
a Nightingale" for them, and it is a truly beautiful song
that displays their harmony at its best, and the song is
not usually found on other collections.
Get the best of all their classic early hits, plus this
last hit.
A must have for any fan.

This five-disc set was the first release in BMG's effort to present Elvis's recorded legacy in a manner befitting the most important musical artist of his time. The strategy was simple--showcase, in chronological order, remastered versions of the King's 1950s output, from his sessions with Sam Phillips at Sun Studios (where they arguably invented the very notion of rock & roll) through his 1958 Army induction. Not everything Elvis recorded in the '50s was great (just as not everything he recorded in Hollywood was rotten), but there are dozens of tracks here that, quite simply, can make a bad day seem all that much better. Which surely still makes him the king of something. Suffice it to say this is one box set that lives up to its title. --Bill Holdship
Customer Reviews:
The Complete 50's Masters.......2007-04-12
Do yourself a favor and order this collection along with the 60's & 70's. There are songs you won't find on other CD's, and hear Elvis as a regular "guy" just makes you love him more.
Definitive Elvis '50s compilation.......2007-02-25
THE KING OF ROCK 'N' ROLL: THE COMPLETE 50's MASTERS is a four-CD set, with a bonus disc containing alternate studio takes, and a lot of "live" Elvis recordings-- MGM Grand stuff, mostly. Except for the acetate of "That's When Your Heartaches Begins" and the few alternates, DISC 5 is fluff.
The other four CDs however are a treasure trove of the music that defined "The King." From his one-of-a-kind 1953 recording booth acetate of "My Happiness" to the 1958 fast version of "Ain't That Loving You Baby," this set documents Presley's recording career in chronological order and without gaps.
The 102-page long box-sized book includes sessionography, discography, color photos of all LP, EP and 45 picture sleeves, an excellent bio in easy to read print, and lots of other color and B&W photos. Sound quality is excellent. This one gets five stars for the biggest star of all!

Good music - Poor label.......2006-06-29
The songs are great, but they're not listed on the CD itself-only on the case. It's frustrating to put the disks in a multi-disk changer and not know what songs are on the disk.
King lives!!!.......2006-03-29
The essential 50`s, 60`s and 70`s are something every Elvis Presley fan should have INMEDIATELY!!!!! The king will always live!!!!
An essential collection!.......2005-09-30
This is a comprehensive collection of Elvis' most influential work. Not every song is a classic, but there are many classics here. These are the recordings that shaped the foundation of Rock & Roll and popular music for a generation. From his early, ground breaking recordings for Sun Records to his smash 1950's hits with RCA, they are all here. Elvis at his creative peak! A must have!

Good intro, but.......2005-08-24
The first 5 songs are top 10 hits +, but after that I went to fast forward.
Awesome.......2003-09-12
My parents listen to these good old boys and I grew up listening to them and my children are now listening to them. I went to a concert at the Ross Ragland in Klamath Falls,Or and I loved the bass he is so low you can feel it in your seat. All are cute too! Great albums
Elvira is cut short!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-07-25
The very end of the song where Richard hits the "bottom of the barrel" with his amazing vocal chords...is totally cut out! What a scam! I used to listen to this song as a kid and I feel I've been betrayed!!
MCA gets cheap?.......2002-04-28
The Oak Ridge Boys deserve to have at least one Millenium Collection released (if not more), but should it be done to accomodate MCA's increasingly cheap approach to older artists?
This collection would not be quite to bad if MCA hadn't released "The Oak Ridge Boys COLLECTION" nearly 10 years earlier. At least that package got original artwork and liner notes. When it became inevitable that the Oaks needed a Millenium Collection, what did MCA do? They simply pulled the 1992 "Collection" off the market (which had been certified Gold not too long before), slapped an old album photo on it (the original cover for "American Made," to be exact), and ever so slightly edited the track list. The result: a POOR excuse for a new release. All but one of the songs on this release appeared on the '92 collection ("Bobbie Sue," conspicuously absent from the prior release, and "Make My Life With You" are the only additions). Amazing, two of the Oaks' biggest hits, "Y'all Come Back Saloon" and "Thank God For Kids" were cut altogether (I guess to save even more money).
Even the liner notes are nearly identical to the '92 release. I see no reason for this total lack of concern for a top-notch group such as the Oaks. Since they have so many more hits, perhaps MCA will consider doing a Volume Two Millenium release (with a NEW cover photo and DIFFERENT song line-up!!)
Not just for country music lovers!.......2001-05-13
One listen to "The Best Of The Oak Ridge Boys - The Millennium Collection" will have you immediately hooked on the material, even if you aren't a fan of country music. What endeared many a fan to this legendary quartet is their unique brand of interwoven, finely homogenized blend of vocalization. Perhaps you could call the Oaks' the "Mamas and the Papas" or the "Three Dog Night" of country music. In this collection, you get eleven of their best known country tunes, plus the Oaks one and only crossover country-pop smash "Elvira", which features Richard Sterban's trademark bass vocals. I couldn't sing that low if my life depended on it! The saxophone playing in "Bobbie Sue" is reminiscent of The Coasters "Charlie Brown", which gives this track a jazzy-bluesy sort of quality. My favorite tracks in this collection would have to be "I Wish You Could Have Turned My Head (And Left My Heart Alone)", "American Made" (which was later revamped and used in a popular beer commercial), "Trying To Love Two Women", "Fancy Free" and "Make My Life With You". The other tracks featured in this greatest hits collection are worth the money as well, so you'll derive great listening pleasure, as well as get more than what you pay for with this one of a kind body of work from one of country music's biggest legends. This could be a five star review, had MCA included the Oaks' two most endearing favorites "Thank God For Kids" and "Everyday", but MCA sort of dropped the ball on this one. Although The Oak Ridge Boys have enjoyed a rather fruitful career over the years, perhaps their most notorious act was when Joe Bonsall, Duane Allen and Richard Sterban dismissed fellow longtime member William Lee Golden in the mid-'80's for refusing to shave off his trademark shepherd-like, salt and pepper beard. C'mon guys, that's like asking Alex Trebek to do away with his "flavor saver", or even asking Kenny Rogers to shave off all his facial hair! The group then replaced Golden with a dark haired guy with no facial hair, who, in photographs looked so out of place in this band. By the time the '90's rolled around, Golden was later back with The Oak Ridge Boys, but the group failed to recapture their late '70's/early '80's chart success. This Millennium Collection CD belongs in every country music/Oaks' fan's, and in some cases, pop music fan's CD library. You better not wait too long, because "The Best Of The Oak Ridge Boys - The Millennium Collection" might not be around for the next millennium! As they say down South, "Ya better git while the gittin's good!" In English, that means "Order yours today (while supplies last)!"

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has made more than 20 seasonal recordings since its first one (for broadcast to U.S. servicemen in Europe and the Pacific on Christmas Day, 1945), but none finer than this one, led by the group's newly appointed music director, Craig Jessop. Featuring lush arrangements by Mack Wilberg and Barlow Bradford, it emphasizes the gentler, more rapturous moods of the holiday, especially in such beautiful settings as Wilberg's of "Whence Is That Goodly Fragrance?" and "How Far Is It to Bethlehem?" and Bradford's fantasy on "What Child Is This?" Balancing these are several selections in which the choir's blazing, full-voiced splendor shines forth, including Wilberg's festive arrangements of "Joy to the World" and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," as well as Bradford's colorful take on "Pat-a-pan." The choir's singing is magnificent. Listen to the way the men lead off "The First Noel" and to how the full chorus builds the piece to a gorgeous climax, or to the virtuosic job the singers do in the "Carol of the Bells" (with its echoes of Rachmaninoff's The Bells). Impressively backed by the Orchestra at Temple Square, this is a disc to treasure, and a tribute to the admirable work being done in Salt Lake City by maestro Jessop--who now seems poised to inherit the mantle of Robert Shaw. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy or a worthier musician. --Ted Libbey
Customer Reviews:
A Mormon Tabernacle Christmas CD.......2007-01-19
CD arrived in perfect condition; however, the front of the jewel case was cracked.
Is this the best Christmas album ever recorded?.......2005-12-29
There have been so many Christmas albums over the years, when I saw this I thought 'Oh no, not another one?' Then I looked at the track titles and saw that this was something different. Among the traditional carols there were many unfamiliar titles (I say this as a foreigner - some may be better known in the USA than in Australia). I decided to buy the SACD version of this release. What a revelation! Where do I start?
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is famous for producing very enjoyable choral recordings, usually with a religious theme, but frankly, on an international scale, they do not rate with the best (compare them with some of the better UK symphonic choirs, which is how the Tabernacle choir must be categorized, to see what I mean). But on this album, they have placed themselves well and truly in the international arena. Every aspect of their singing is, to me, perfect - diction, phrasing, musical expression, ensemble, and of greatest importance, a total involvement with and perfect expression of the words and the music. They don't sing about Santa Claus; they sing about the true meaning of Christmas, and mean it. And you really hear how well they sing in the few 'a capella' sections - musical moments that are unsurpassed.
Then there are the arrangements. These express everything from the implicit grandeur of God coming down to earth, through to the greatest tenderness of the simplicity of his birth as Jesus. All the orchestrations and choral arrangements are completely fresh and unhackneyed, ranging from the most exquisite harmonies through to extraordinarily bold key changes - the people who did these arrangements are amongst the best in the business.
Then there is the program. This ranges from fresh arrangements of old favourites (sample the fantasy on 'What Child is This?'), to an exploration of the most beautiful unfamiliar songs and carols you will ever hear.
Finally the engineering. Telarc are famous for the audiophile standards of their recordings, and this is one of their best. The SACD fully utilizes the multiple channels, without resorting to gimmickry. If ever there was a 'you-are-there' recording, this is it.
In summation: no matter how many Christmas CDs you own; buy this one too. The CD version works well (and remember, if you buy the SACD version - Telarc SACD-60552 - it will play on an ordinary CD player as well), but if you have the equipment to play the multi-channel SACD, you will get an even more rewarding experience.
All the above may sound over the top, but, as you may have gathered, this release has had a massive impact on me at every level. It is a prize in my collection. The greatest Christmas album ever? Quite possibly.
A Perfect Traditional Christmas Album.......2005-12-28
What Shall We Give to the Babe in the Manger. What an incredible piece, and how well- conducted it is. The music brings tears to my eyes, to be sure. The album is a classic example of how holiday choral music should be performed. This is done with spirit and tenderness.
If only other orchestras, choirs, and arrangements could be performed as well. Some are, but how often do we purchase an album just to find it not what we like? Fortunately, one can listen to clips of each of the pieces, before purchasing.
"What Shall We Bring" is becoming now my fondest Christmas song. The performance by the Mormon Choir and orchestra is incredible, to me. I've found other versions of the song, but this version is the finest, by far.
For those interested about my favorite piece: It is from a traditional Catalonian Carol, translated from Spanish, called, "The Son of Mary."
Stunningly beautiful.......2005-12-14
I have heard and enjoyed many recordings from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir over the years. Then, it happened. I heard Joy to the World from this album on the radio and it sent chills up my spine. That never happened. A thrilling arrangement. The other music equally excellent as described. If you have never been big fan of Christmas music, get this album and surprise yourself.
Beautiful...Intriguing...This is Christmas.......2004-12-09
The Mormon Tabernacle choir is already known for their beautiful voices of praise. When you add the orchestra of temple square and the spirit of christmas, you receive even more. This CD portrays the birth of Christ. It is beautiful!

Wonderful memories! Wonderful music!.......2005-09-15
I bought this CD a month before the birth of my first child, who was born on December 22. He is now almost 13, but I remember listening to "Breath of Heaven" and crying tears of joy and gratitude for all that song means. This CD is still a favorite of ours at Christmastime, despite the many trials that have come our way since that beginning...
Thank you, Amy.
Needs a little work, but so far so good.......2005-01-31
Recently I installed a Hatori SB-15FH on my Raptor. This is a 50 to 70 size muffler. I will need several flights on it to do a full review but one thing I wanted to mention is that with this and the Curtis Muscle Pipe 2 you need to cut the canopy so it will clear. I had a strange problem on my R50v2 recently. I found the bottom brass ring of the autorotation hub had moved down and was dragging on the snap rings.
Looks like my TT50 has developed some slop in the rear bearing after 500 tanks. I put a used TT50 I bought a year ago in it but did have the local bearing shop order a front and rear bearing for it (just $3.50 each) and should have the engine back running great again.
An Essential Christmas Album! Such A Classic!.......2004-12-22
I don't own Amy's other 2 Christmas albums, but I really love this one!!! These Christmas songs can really fill you with cheer and put you in the Christmas spirit! It's even safe to listen to this Christmas album at any time of the year! It still sounds so great.
I'm so glad there are some Christmas classics on this one!... Including "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year", "I'll Be Home For Christmas", and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree"!! ...She did an ace job covering these classics!
And of course, how could I not mention her version of "Grown Up Christmas List"? This song is a real tear-jerker. It's just so beautiful. I love the lyrics.
Other songs you'll find yourself liking...: "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", "Winter Wonderland" ..
This is such an essential Christmas album! I guarantee you'll fall in love with Amy Grant's "I'll Be Home For Christmas"!
Used to love AMY and still do but now GENIE has my heart.......2004-11-24
This is a really good CD, better than the other Amy CHristmas CD.
I'd still recommend that you pick up the GENIE 4 CD set either in addition to or instead of this one. THe Genie set has plenty of Christmas material and itsn't much more expensive for 4 cd's instead of one, with the special they have going here. I find that this CD makes me feel much like Genie's but there's a peace and serentiy in the GENIE set that no other artist really matches... well maybe Fernando Ortega.
I'm not knocking Amy, I think she deserves our respect and support and has much to offer. Just being honest about my feelings.
WIth the greatest love....
Your friend
Christmas Memories.......2004-10-19
I have grown up listening to the original CD at christmas time. Hearing it brings me back to when my family would would be driving back from Christmas Eve mass with the snow falling all around us. Hearing these songs will always remind of those peaceful times with my family and good winters in Michigan.

Customer Reviews:
The stellar talent of Ernie Ford.......2006-02-17
It is a peculiar thing to be writing about a now long out-of-print CD set, but there are still copies of this to be had, and no other reviews at this site, so here goes.
First, my five-star rating is an automatic one, since no other collection of Ford's music containing more than half this amount of music currently exists. That said, it is certainly a good collection. In fact, given the superlatives in this set, one can hardly imagine why it was available for so short a time. The only explanation I can offer is that its distributor, EMI/Capitol, is widely known for the practice of issuing, then suddenly withdrawing lots of recordings.
There is a wide range of styles and moods in this set, amply demonstrating that Ernie Ford was a versatile and sophisticated performer. He appears to have ridden the cornpone circuit until 1955, when "Sixteen Tons" gave him his first Number One hit and Capitol's biggest selling record to date. Afterward, Ford successfully traversed multiple styles of music.
The "cornpone" comment above was not a derogatory one. Certainly, Ernie Ford spent the first phase of his career in the country vein, but he was a master and worked with some fabulous session musicians, so these recordings are not to be dismissed. After "Sixteen Tons", however, things became even more interesting. Highlights in this set (my personal ones, anyway) include "River of No Return", which raises goosebumps with ghostly session voices backing Ford's stoic but resigned baritone in a song of lost love. "Dark As a Dungeon" is another song about coal mining (sadly lesser-known than "Sixteen Tons")which could have been maudlin in another singer's care, but shines here courtesy of Ford's personality and sheer good will--not to mention that voice!
One more song I must mention is "Rainy Night in Georgia". Yes, Brook Benton had the big hit record here, and rightly so. But Ernie Ford's recording is arguably just as good. Ford doesn't seem to have been aiming at the Top Ten with this recording but, rather, straight for the heart. Bullseye!
I should note quickly that none of Ernie Ford's justly popular sacred/gospel recordings are here, but since they are widely available otherwise (via the Gaither organization, Curb records, et al.) this is not an issue.
The sound of these discs is quite good, and there is well-written and -illustrated book to read while you enjoy the music. There are but fifty tracks over the three discs when at least eighty would have comfortably fit but, as mentioned earlier, there simply isn't any competition for this set.
And finally, to answer "Music Fan", who wrote the only other entry here: Try Amazon Marketplace or ebay. Seriously, this one is worth your time and money, and no one knows if or when a better selection of Ernie Ford's music will be available.

Yes, BUT...this is much of what we have left of the great Archie Brownlee!!.......2006-03-01
What if Ray Charles had died in the 1950's, and all that we had left of his immense genius were a handful of precious recordings? Would you ignore them if MCA butchered the reissue? Unfortunately, that is the choice that we are faced with here.
The previous reviewer is absolutely right about the inexcusably poor job that MCA did with this reissue. The old vinyl album WAS better quality. But my copy of that is pretty worn, and there is a whole world of younger folks out there who have never heard of the Rev. Archie Brownlee, who was the young Ray Charles role model, but died in 1959, leaving only a handful of recordings. Yes, he was that good, good enough to inspire a Ray Charles. Tony Heilbut in his authoritative "The Gospel Sound" called him "the baddest man on the road", perhaps the most intensely emotional singer in the golden age of great gospel singers, with a raw scream that was echoed directly in Wilson Pickett and James Brown.
Here's my suggestion - listen hard to the recorded samples here. Don't turn them off at the first sound of that godawful cheesy reverb - leave it on till your ears start to make allowances for the bad remastering. See if the magic of this powerhouse group and their brilliant lead singer doesn't triumph over the pitiful transfer. In the end, I decided that Archie Brownlee, badly recorded and on only a few cuts, is better than no Archie Brownlee at all. Until MCA comes to its senses. 5 stars for the Five Blind Boys and Rev. Archie Brownlee - 0 for recording quality.
Nice packaging but shameful sound quality and running time.......2002-09-04
Don't by this CD - it's a travesty to the memory of the late and oh, so very great Archie Brownlee and The Boys. The packaging is good with fine photographs but poorly written and inaccurate sleevenotes. Vague recording dates and original single catalogue numbers are a welcome bonus. That's the CD's good points; now the bad ones: only 12 tracks and a 36 minute running time and only 7 of these feature Archie And The Boys in their 1950's prime. But what is MOST UNFORGIVEABLE is the DIRE SOUND QUALITY. I have some of these tracks on 1970 vinyl reissues which sound better than this CD which must want to make you believe these recordings were made in an aircraft hangar. Even if the master tapes have been lost there are cleaner sounding versions available on vinyl which they could have made dubs from.
Archie Brownlee is quite correctly recognised as being one of the greatest singers of the last century and he deserves better than 7 dreadfully mastered tracks. You must try harder MCA - surely you can do better than this? The one star is for the great photos - nice packaging, shameful content.
