If you enjoy gospel music -- YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET! Elvis' incredible voice is perfect for the soulful lyrics. Plus he picks up the tempo on many of them making them sound more like rock. All of my favorites are on this 3CD set - so I'm very very happy that I bought it. I highly recommend it!

Elvis sings gospel songs like no other! Some of the songs are a litte rough but you have to realize some songs were recorded in his home or at the studio while he is just playing around. The first disc is more of the released songs while some of the songs on the other CD's are live versions or unreleased versions with him laughing and talking. I thoroughly love this set!

I have always thought that Elvis' voice was never better than when he was singing gospel and this album proves it! Well done remastering, clear, very good sound. Absolutely a must for people who love gospel and Elvis!!

Beautiful.......2007-06-14

This CD is a must have for any Mormon Tabernacle Choir fans. The music is very reverent and gentle, and should also appeal to those not from the LDS church, seeing as how most of the music is common to the wider Christian community. This CD is a fantastic addition to any music collection.

A few bright spots, but also some disappointments.......2007-01-19

It Is Well With My Soul is one of my favorite-favorites and that is the main reason why I bought the CD; it turned out to be a huge let down on this album, they rearranged it so much that I almost didn't recognize it. Be Still My Soul is another reason why I bought it and it's good, but not great. Swing Low Sweet Chariot is where it starts to get good. The last two songs "Thou Gracious God, Whose Mercy Lends"
and "Come, Let Us Anew" are very good reasons to buy this CD, they each have truely powerful passages and make the CD worth having. The Mormon Tabernacle Choirs 2006 release entitled Then Sings My Soul is by far the best that I've heard from them.

However, the rating scale has a limit of five. I own over 700 CDs of virtually every type of music. Peace Like A River belongs in a class by itself! I've never written a review before but, after listening to this STUNNING performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, I feel compelled to share my praise with that of the five other reviewers. If I were limited to one word, I would use the word "SUPERB" to describe this beautiful and moving CD. SIX stars for Peace Like a River! BRAVO!!!

This album is all beauty and solace. The singing is pristine, the arrangements lush and often stirring--never saccharine. As with the previous reviewer, my first listing of "Peace Like a River" brought me to tears (especially "Peace Like a River," the sopranos in "Swing Low," and the bagpipes in "Thou Gracious God"). Buy this one.

Fabulous!.......2005-05-29

The perfect recording to help you recover from a long, hard day. Showcasing the MTC's "new" sound in contemporary choral arrangements with its own orchestra and conductor, "Peace Like a River" brought tears to my eyes in selection after selection during my first listen -- and I'm not normally an emotional person! The title song together with "Deep River," "Swing Low" and "Be Still My Soul" are alone worth the cost of the recording. Get this one!

This cd is classy, and jazzy, and spirit filled. Miss Bynum sings passionately, almost in a Shirley Horn style, she even almost scats is tongues towards the end of the brilliant album. Miss Bynum shows that her vocals stylisticly belong in the 50's jazz/blues/Gospel genere, and the background music is sophistocated, and the words are what will touch your spirit. Listen to the words, and put this on before you read your Bible, and you'll find it to be peaceful and get you in a worsopful mood.

One of the classic--and bestselling--gospel recordings, this live release from 1962 has all the trademarks of the contemporary gospel sound (which the Reverend James Cleveland almost single-handedly forged in the 1950s as composer and arranger for the vibrant Caravans). Very progressive music for the time, the sound is big, the arrangements bluesy, and Cleveland's powerful vocals alternate between rough-hewn and soaringly handsome. The live recording captures many of the shouts and cries of a superenthusiastic church audience. The backing choir is energized and booming, the funky organ just makes you want to jump up out of your chair, and Cleveland's preaching is simple, smart, and to the point. The only drawback is the crudeness of the recording, but surely the low fidelity is overcome by the performance's sheer power. Perhaps the Best Gospel Album of All Time!.......2002-07-12

I cannot praise this recording highly enough - "Peace Be Still" is the epitome of high-octane black gospel. Cleveland's vocals raise the roof, and the Angelic Choir provides the perfect counter-punch, complemented by bluesy keyboards and swinging percussion (the drums on "I Will Wear a Crown" have an almost surf-rock feel). And the rousing doxology and amens ("Praise God") provide the perfect conclusion. If you are a fan of gospel, you must have this record! If you are interested in gospel, this is the place to start.

Unfortunately, Rev. Cleveland never equalled this masterpiece. If anyone knows of any albums that sound like "Peace Be Still," I would love to hear about them.

Better than average.......2007-06-15

Not a glowing review title but I wasn't amazed by the album either. I enjoy it for sure but overall it tends to drone on and sound like a lot of their other music. More Than You Know is their best album hands down so check that one out before this one. Otherwise it is a decent album, peppy, well produced but you can barely tell what they're singing about and the harmonizing gets old...

For all of you who had negative things to say about this LP:

"I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." (Paul,an Apostle; 1Corinthians 9:19-23)

1. I love this "album"/CD (who has any vinyl now a days).
2. It can be inspiring to many who hear it. Especially the last song, Not Worthy. We are unworthy of the gift of Life that we have, and Out of Eden did a wonderful job of singing to the Almighty about it.

3. Religion and the "where is Jesus, Lord?" attitude will not help many outside of the church. (that's another post for another time)

In Summary: I reccomend this CD to anyone who likes music, likes positive messages, and wants to hear the gospel (GOOD NEWS) over music!

If you want to hear banging tambourines, feet stomping, and hollering, then buy something else...

My Favorite Out of Eden CD.......2005-07-16

OMG!! I love this CD. It took me forever to find it, but I'm glad that I was able to get it. It has an urban feel to it, and at first it doesnt sound like gospel music, but it's definitely well worth the money.

Out of Eden is a great band but is this really gospel music? They seem to have alot of potential but where do you hear the words God, Jesus, Lord, anything? The only reason I gave this CD a two is because the music is great. It's just the lyrics that are quite confusing. Why is this labeled 'Christian Music'. I would not advise anyone to get it who is looking for a CD that gives God the praise and worship he deserves.

Beautiful, Peaceful Music.......2001-04-17

This is a wonderfully relaxing CD. It combines sounds of nature with classical pieces such as To A Wild Rose, The Swan, Moonlight Sonata, and others by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and others. I listen to it on my way home from work or whenever I need a peaceful, quiet moment to contemplate. It's about an hour's worth of music, 11 songs total, and definitely worth every penny.

A Brilliant Pianist Virtuoso/Glorious music.......2007-06-30

The first time I heard this music, I was leisurely shopping in a gift shop in Highlands, NC and it was softly playing overhead. This was in 1995. The song I was listening to was 'There's Something About That Name' written by Gloria Gaither. I didn't know this at the time though. Although, let me say now that you should hear her recitation she does while the Homecoming Friends are singing/humming it. It brings tears to my eyes being reminded of what Jesus gave for me, and an uplifting of my heart that is indescribable. I went to the shop owner and asked her what it was and she said it was on a cassette by some guy named Dino. She didn't have any copies of it left to sell so she got the cassette out and showed it to me. I wrote down the information I needed to order a copy. I got my copy and I'll promise you that every song on it is as good as 'Something About That Name'. Dino has pure magic in his fingers. I later saw him on PBS in that white suit he wore at the time, his wife was in white and the stage surroundings were white, with that white blue ice stuff wafting about (even the piano was white). Just like I imagine Heaven to be. and it was such a wonderful concert. His wife sang with some of his songs. They are truly inspirations. And I know that Gloria and Bill Gaither appreciate very much what he did with their song even though it has also been recorded by numerous others. I also have another CD by Dino called Miracles which is almost as good. I can recommend it highly also.

The best ever!.......2001-08-18

This cassette has been the most wonder-full music I have ever owned. In fact, I loved it so much, I gave it away, while sitting in the waiting room of a hospital awaiting an xray, to a woman who had just discovered she had breast cancer. I wanted her to experience the peace I had received listening to this masterpiece. Many nights I put earphones on and listened to this cassette while sleeping, having it repeat itself all night. The soundtrack and the nature sounds that play behind the music is so relaxing and comforting. There hasn't been anything like it since! If you haven't heard it, do yourself a favor!

Everyone must have this album in their collection. I don't care if you grew up listening to Led Zeppelin & The Beatles, or if you're into Pantera or Limp Bizkit now, be open minded and let this music take you away.

EXCELLENCE IN MUSIC.......2007-05-15

Liz Mccomb is a trail blazer in the field of music I am always amazed at what she does with her voice and music. The cd is no exception she live up to the level of excellence that you should expect.
