What, me complain?.......2005-08-18
Saints and Friends, if you've ever been down and hated everyone around, listen to "I Won't Complain". I bought the CD after hearing the extended version not knowing the artist is no longer w/us. Although this song is popular during anniversaries and district meetings, you've NEVER heard it like Brother Jones does it here! When you play this song everyone notices and reacts because it's simply awe-some. This is preachin-singin at its finest, right up there w/Bruce Parham and Bishop Ronald Brown. Sadly, the other selections on the CD are subpar at best due to poor recording quality but still, repeat "I Won't Complain" and let it minister to you. May the Lord bless all who hear this CD.

I was very pleased with the CD even though it is shorter than the tape. I enjoyed it
Good Song.......2007-02-10
I bought this album for my boyfriend. He loves the album. It has 6 songs on it, so it's shorter than most. Also, the sound quality is not the best, but apart from that, it's a pretty good album.
"I won't complain" was cut off........2005-12-30
I ordered the CD just for the song, "I won't complain." Well, I must complain. The song was cut off. I was very disappointed about that. I thought there was something wrong with my stereo, but it had nothing to do with that. The song is much shorter than the original version. If I had known that, I would've continued my search. Other than that, the other songs, which I had never heard before, are really uplifting.
I Won't Complain.......2004-09-12
This CD is a must-have for lovers of classic gospel. The late Rev. Paul Jones never claimed to have the best singing voice in the world, however he sang from his heart and spirit. The emotion that comes through in each song on this CD will give you goosebumps. In his short life, Rev. Jones was a legend in the Houston area for his version of "I Won't Complain". "Don't Want No Rocks" will bring tears to the eyes of those seeking to mend their relationship with God. Sadly, Rev. Jones was murdered before he had a chance to bless the world with another CD. He lives on through this spirit-filled collection.
how i love the.......2003-03-15
this song makes me understand that there are people in this world that are worse off then me. so there for i should have nothing to complain about. when im having a very bad day i use to play this song and cry till i couldn't cry no more and think about all the bad things i have done in my life .and after hearing this song i realize that things ar not as bad as i make them seem. there is a rev. where i am from that sung this song at my grandfathers funeral, and at my great aunts.

After a five-year period of soul searching and disillusionment with the music industry, Kathy Troccoli returned in 1993 with her strongest effort to date, not to mention one of the most successful Christian crossover releases in years. Pure Attraction features Troccoli's Top 5 hit "Everything Changes," an up-tempo pop gem penned by famed songwriter Diane Warren. Troccoli, once a backup singer for '80s pop diva Taylor Dayne, uses producer Rick Wake to create a similar backdrop complementing her deep and powerful voice. As on his work with Dayne, Celine Dion, and others, producer Wake encourages a smoky torch song or two like "You're Still Here" and "You and I," on which Troccoli's plaintive vocals are bound to tug your heartstrings. But for the most part, the release is filled with harmless mid-tempo love songs such as "Love Has Found Me Here," leaving a brief yet sweet taste of Troccoli's talent. --Michael Lyttle

Love songs from the heart........2002-09-04
I have just recently began collecting CD's by this artist. I had heard her songs on various mixed CD's and decided to try her album. This is one of her earlier works and she has a magical, warm voice and the songs she wrote on this album take a deep look at love, happiness, despair and joy. I look forward to purchasing more albums by her and would recommend this CD to anyone wanting something different from a female artist.
It is Wonderful!!!.......1998-08-29
Kathy Troccoli does a wonderful job making her songs pure and true while having different beats. She has a wide selection of music types. I love her voice it is not to high but not really low. No matter what kind of voice you have you can sing along with her. One of my favorite songs is Can't get you out of my heart!!! You really should get this and listen to it.

Album Description
A stunning mixture of gospel vocals and deftly played blues and ragtime instrumentals from the guitar playing evangelist. Recordings from 1957 demonstrate Davis's amazing ability to both sing and play with a passion and skill unparalleled. They also contain the first recorded performances of the Davis classics Hesitation Blues and Cocaine Blues. Reverend Gary Davis remains one of America's truly great folk artists. "...mandatory listening...the single best source of his passionate singing and playing..." (One of the top five blues releases of 1991) -- Pulse!
Customer Reviews:
Cocaine Blues/Instrumental.......2007-07-14
I think the vocal version of "Cocaine Blues" belongs to another label. Rock fans may know the song by George Thorogood, by the way. Fantastic accoustic guitar work. Also check out Blind Willie McTell, Lonnie Johnson, and of course Robert Johnson and Robert Lockwood, Jr. for accoustic country blues mastery.
WARNING!.......2002-02-27
Though this has some great guitar picking on it, the version of "Cocaine Blues" on this CD is an INSTRUMENTAL!! The song, when it is SUNG, has some of the best anti-drug lyrics ever. Whoever put this compilation together decided not to put a disclaimer on the CD that this is an instrumental version.
The label is Smithsonian Folkways, Buyer Beware!
This is Acoustic Guitar Heaven.......2001-07-10
Enough has been written about Gary Davis' unique guitar style, so it's time to do some serious listening, and this is the disc with which to do it.
It was recorded when Davis was about sixty years old, and at that moment he had as much power and imagination in his playing as he'd had as a younger musician, while at the same time having reached a level of control that only comes with decades of experience. His tempos are not as frantic as those on his 1930s sides, and his playing is even better. To boil it down: There is no better acoustic guitar playing to be heard in all of American music than you'll hear on this disc. It's always been a problem to capture the sheer "squeeze power" of a street performer like Davis, and this recording does so better than any of his others. And at exactly the right time in his life, for in all his later recordings except "Harlem Street Singer" - magnificent as they may be - his age shows to a lesser or greater degree.
Track one, "Pure Religion," encapsulates all the high points of Davis the musical preacher, and should be played as loud as possible for maximum impact. The very next one, "Mountain Jack Blues," is a perfect example of Davis the bedrock bluesman: like a jazz player, he uses the form to explore melodic line and feeling, letting the guitar do all the singing. The rest of the album alternates more or less in that fashion: dynamite blues or ragtime numbers interspersed with deeply emotional religious songs. For the most part Davis' vocals here are less intense than those heard on "Harlem Street Singer," but his guitar playing takes up that burden.
Stunning unamplified-guitar pyrotechnics? You've never heard anything to equal these versions of "Hesitation Blues" (truly proto-jazz) or "Twelve Sticks" which here is titled "I Didn't Want to Join the Band." Gentle old-time picking? There's beauty and poetry to spare in "Cocaine [Coco] Blues" - but don't get in between Davis' right thumb and those strings, for there are truly differing degrees of gentle!
And to make it all the sweeter, the disc contains a handful of tunes ("Seven Sisters," "My Heart is Fixed," "Right Now") that are not found on any other Davis album, and the CD issue includes two tracks left off the original LP, which at that was one of the longer LPs to be released in the folk-vinyl days.
One small, minor complaint: The recording overall shows a much higher level of hiss than was present on the long-unavailable British and American LP issues, suggesting some deterioration of the master tapes. The sound suffers a bit as to crispness. ("Cocaine Blues" sounds as if it's transferred from an LP copy.)
But that this recording is available at all is cause enough for joy, for it truly doesn't get better than this. I know it's a cliche, but it's true: If you're a guitarist, or a fan of American folk music, you owe it to yourself to hear this disc.
classic.......1999-11-07
This is one of the classic albums. Rev Davis plays blues/ragtime picking acoustic guitar. If you don't know him yet then this is a good example of his excellent work. Personal, individual and heartfelt like the best country blues but very free with his guitar arrangements. Proper.

His 1959 recordings sans overdubs.......2002-04-01
There are many mysterious periods in the recording career of Little Richard Penniman and perhaps the one with the most unanswered questions is represented by this CD. What is the exact session date? Did End records Producer George Goldner try to encourage the star to record more *secular* music? In addition to these queries, are there any CDs out there drawn from the master tapes? A good recent effort from Peacock, "God Is Real", included overdubbed versions.
It's hard to tell by the sonics on this Direct Source release what generation was used. For the LR collector, at any rate, this album, at this point, is the one to get. (The ambitious fan/historian can search for the vinyl stereo Spin-O-Rama album "Clap Your Hands!" from c. '60, which contains about half of the End tracks in superlative sound).
The highlight of this collection is Track #10, "Certainly Lord" (pressed as "Save Me, Lord" on End 1057). It is the only track which instantly recalls the Specialty Richard and places his voice up front - the uptempo side could actually fit into Richard's Specialty catalogue. There is some echo on this pressing (unlike the Spin-O-Rama or End issues) but the listener will be delighted.
To my knowledge, there are three other songs which also make their CD debut: "I Know The Lord", "Troubles Of The World", and "Tell God My Troubles". As on all his End numbers, Little Richard sings them at full power, displaying a brilliant operatic tenor. Here and there he makes too big a leap from baritone but his breath control and vibrato are remarkable throughout.
"Does Jesus Care" is a slow take which belongs in any "Best Of..." LR set.
One small criticism: the cover shot is well-composed, but the bare-chested image is inappropriate.
