Receive the gift of tongues.

Acquire a new tongue through the continual relistening of this recording of the first section of the Gospel of Saint Matthew.

The reader heard here bears such repeated relistening, as he is large and warm and paternal and holy, like a cross between Santa Claus and Orson Welles on a very good day.

And he reads in a clear and careful Spanish.

Easily you could read along in either language, English or Spanish, and grow to love the language and its resonances, its close familiarity with the mother tongue Latin, its direct power.

As you also pray the lectio divina you can reform and expand your bones to a new tongue; this recording has that much generous power.

Very worthwhile for second language learners acquiring familiarity with the rythms and phonemes and feelings of Spanish, as well as for Spanish language prayer groups seeking an effective way to meditate in silence La Palabra. In fact any group of cursillistas might profit by this careful listening.

As Spanish plays such a major part of our present American Catholic presence, including Bilingual and Spanish-only Masses, nearly any urban or outlying parish can find a place for this recording series in the parish library and prayer groups.

A good listening to this recording and folks are ready to sit around in a circle and say what the reading tells them today in their lives and always.
