Ce Ce Winans CD.......2007-03-31
There are only 3 songs that really stand out. I will buy no more CD's of any artist. It makes more sense economically and space wise to have an MP3 player and download only songs that you like. Overall, her songs have nice relaxing, orchestra music in all except one song.
Great!.......2007-02-12
CeCe is an awesome singer! Prophetess Juanita Bynum is good too! If you like CeCe you probably will not like the Crabb family (frequently seen on TBN praise-a-thons)I personally do not care for the Crabb family since they sing badly, have little talent, and their vocals are mushy & pitchy. Buy CeCe before you buy the Crabb family. She's 100 times better. I would not support the Crabb family as that to me it seems they are a couple of kids who found a way to make a fast buck by using the Christian audience to support their lavish lifestyle! Support CeCe not the Crabb family!
CeCe Winans- Purify Us All!.......2006-09-15
I know I just wrote a review for Kirk Franklin's Hero, but the first gospel album I bought before that was actually CeCe Winans' Purified. I had come to the point that I really needed musically something to reach my spirit as overall I'm not getting it from just our everyday played mainstream music. Especially since I'm going to church on the regular now and totally enjoy when our singers put it down, I have been looking back to listening to more gospel music. Sure, I still listen to some mainstream music with it's crazy ways at time (I'm not changed totally, but I am in the process of changing), but it turns me away from it more than it turns me on to it. Maybe it's the good Lord speaking to me. I don't know, but back to the topic at hand. I was so glad that CeCe was the first album that connected to me. I put it into my Discman one night and just loved it from the very start. It is just so calming to listen to her music, it's like anything that you go through at the point is totally lost for awhile as you listen to her lovely voice. As someone said before I wrote mine, the album is very soul-soothing! Momma's Kitchen is one of my favorites as we all can relate to the song, at least virtually most of us with those good memories of growing up and being together with family and sharing those good times and wanting to go back to that. So beautiful! You Will is just as lovely, but Pray takes the cake for me. This was the song that prompted me to buy her CD as I heard it on the Celebration of Gospel on BET. So great of a concept and I totally love the beat and feel of the song! Something we all can take from when times get rough and to just speak to God through prayer and just talking to him. All I Need and Just Like That keep the theme of great songs rolling along, all the way through I Promise (The Wedding Song) up to the last three: A Place Like This, Purified, and He's Concerned. Such a beautiful woman with a lovely voice singing some wonderful music that can take some of your pain away. This is an album to buy if you are looking to get back into gospel or just want great gospel music. Thanks, CeCe! 5 stars!
You Can't Fail With CeCe........2006-05-11
For a true Christian Spirit that glows through Ms. Winans, you'll always find her music sung straight from the heart. A Precious Pearl in the Gospel community, "Purified" continues in the CeCe tradition, of lifting our souls to a higher plain.
Speaking forth His word.......2006-04-05
The one thing I love about all Cece's albums is that the lyrics are real, you can know that she can testify about those words as she sings them and she for sure knows that's God's word to us or when praising Him He is worthy of every inch of praise. This can be seen from everlasting love, the Alabaster box album to her self titled album to Throne room and to this album purified.
If you want true and sincere worship get a cd by Cece...after listening to the album you won't be the same cause she is singing His word. Listening to purified now and I am not the same....

Enter into God's Presence.......2007-05-15
CeCe Winans' "Throne Room" is truly a CD for someone who wants to spend time in true worship. It is going to be a favourite of anyone who loves God and is in awe of Him. I recommend it for those who want to take time out to focus on God but need a little extra push to take you into His presence. It sometimes feels as if angels surround me while I am listening to this and communing with God.
Wonderful quiet praise music.......2007-01-10
I love this album and listen to it over and over.
Lorrrrrrrrrrrrrd Have Mercy.......2006-01-17
Now....CeCe has done it "one mo time" This CD wasn't even scheduled to be released.... she just went with the spirit and "bammmmmmmm" here it is....From open to close I believe this CD was purposed... I was asleep one night... (I sleep with the TV on) and I believe I was watching something on TBN that night...however, I woke up about 3:00 am...(good singin wakes me up) and I had been going through some things...and taking myself through some other things....and the songs were ministering to me....tears were falling...and I had never heard the music before...(which is weird all by itself) but I believe she was doing this mini concert and promotional for this recording...she has such a stage presence...the way she spoke about the songs even touched me.....I must admit...I got a bad copy....but believe it or not...this was the last bad copy of any CD I got...from then on...I've brought originals legally...(lol) all I can say is "HALLELUJAH"... I could go on and on..but Im rendered speechless...from open to close....my heart was filled, my thirst was quenched...my mouth began to speak adoration to God........the rest is history....."POWERFUL AND MOVING"
Best Ever.......2006-01-16
I love her voice and this cd is the best ever in worship music. It is just simply heaven sounding. On this album there are one or two up beat songs but the praise is still in it and it makes the whole album beautiful.
Beautiful.......2005-09-04
This album is peaceful, this album is pure, this album is quiet, this album is serenity. This album is worship! The first 8 songs are devoted to worship. The quietness and the peacefulness in the first 8 songs are like fresh water from an open spring. Hallelujah Praise is one of my favorite songs from the next set of 8 songs that are dedicated to praise. This CD includes a DVD which includes scenes from the making of Throne Room and live performances by CeCe Winans as well as her video "More Than What I Wanted".

In the wake of a prolific outpouring of song, the '90s have been good to soulful belter CeCe Winans. Further evidence of getting better with time is Alabaster Box. While not as cutting edge or musically adventurous as 1998's Everlasting Love, this latest project marks an important shift in this fine sister's stylistic and vocal development. Most evident on the decidedly classic title track, Winans forsakes a trendy dated arrangement for sophisticated piano, strings, and woodwinds. The voice, which has always been impressive, is even more so here, as a new maturity broadens and adds weight to the biggest and most well-placed sound yet. The remainder of the album, while lovely, doesn't quite rise to the stunning beauty of its central offering. "Alabaster Box" is so efficient a chariot of great strength and grace that more becomes less, a distraction from Winans's greatest gift. --Paige La Grone

"Put it in ya cart ....rit now.....".......2006-02-11
This was a beautiful album...My mom bought it by mistake...and I fell in love with the ministry that God gave Mrs. Winans....Fill My Cup....was a beautiful intro.... I lift it up Lord" ... a psalm unto God... "King of Kings" was the single of 1999...as soon as the beat dropped...you'll begin to rock...and groove in the spirit.. "It Wasn't Easy"...is an Easter song to remember....she really sang and spoke from the prospective of God.... "Alabaster Box"....was simply heart touching...she sang as if she were the woman in the Bible who knelt at the feet of Jesus... I believe I first heard this song while someone did interpetive dance to it... and I got the message...."OMG"..... "Comforter" is a quiet jam...."Love of my heart" reminds you of an Erika Badu selection....the melody kept ringing in my head... " I know this song from somewhere else" ...then I got was watching Brown Sugar...I think.....and Whop...there it was.......nice spin though....."He's not on his knees yet"....wondering plea....perfectly expressed..... "One and the Same" was great...especially to hear Take 6 with BGVs.......this album was a petition to God...prayers and psalms and spiritual songs....great message...one of my first Gospel CDs.....
Wooooooooooooow!!!!!.......2005-10-01
Cece has done it again. Besides "Alone In His Presence", this is my favorite!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I love ALL of my christian, anointed sister's CDs. It is obvious that Cece has a personal relationship with GOD. Her gift magnifies HIS presence; and I have been blessed on many occasions by listening to here music. I LOVE Cece!!!!! She never fails to lift my spirit. To everyone who has not purchased this CD, do!!!!! CECE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR GIFT, BUT MOSTLY FOR PRAISING OUR ALMIGHTY GOD!!!!! MAY YOU CONTINUE TO USE THIS WONDERFUL INSTRUMENT TO UPLIFT SPIRITS AND HONOR THE FATHER!!!!!
CeCe Amazing Voice & Spiritfilled Inspiring Album-.......2005-06-21
I purchased this album in 1999, I love the message through out this album. I love every song. CeCe sings with Confliction and Reflection. I cry when I first listened to this album. My Personal Favorite is Alabaster Box. I also give all these songs a Five Star Rating. Every song is ties into each other getting you to feel the mood CeCe was expressing. She is clearly devoted and proud to proclaim her Love for her God and Lord.I would encourage anyone who is looking for album to get them into the Praise & Worship or who is a new christian to purchase this album this will get you into the prescence of God and the Lord.

Excellent.......2004-12-04
CeCe Winans' "Alabaster Box" is one of the best CDs I have ever heard. From the very first track, she gives praise and thanks to our Lord and makes you smile the whole time she's doing so. By far, the best track is the title track "Alabaster Box." The first time I heard Ms. Winans sing this song, I was crying at the end of the song. This lady can SING and thanks to God for letting her do so.
She's A Wonder..........2004-04-16
Each cd that CeCe releases showcases growth and maturity and this one is no different. While "Everlasting Love" chartered new territory, "Alabaster Box" offers a "half-way" return to her more traditonal roots. I say "half-way" because there is still somewhat of a contemporary element present in these songs (and it works). CeCe's voice is strong, convincing, and the title track is breathtaking. My personal favorite though, is "Without Love"; my finger always hits the repeat button when this song finishes. Other greats include: "Fill My Cup" (those who read CeCe's book will fully understand the meaning of this song)"It Wasn't Easy", "He's Not on His Knees Yet", "One and the Same" (w/Take 6) and "King of Kings (He's a Wonder)". An essential recording for any CeCe fan, or anyone who enjoys gospel music.

God's Presence felt!!!.......2007-01-29
I can't express enough how powerful the message of God is in this album. From the second you play "alone in his presence" you know you are entering into a spiritual realm where the presence of God is felt. This album has been a favorite of my family and I for years. I have been following cece's career ever since she started with bebe in the 80's. I just cannot pin point a certain song that stands out because every song carries a great message that speaks to the heart. Alot of these songs on this release are heard in church services all over the world today which shows you the staying power of these songs. Also there are many songs on this release that deal with many aspects in life that we go through. The best part is that along with the songs dealing with the aspects of life, the songs also provide answers to the problems we face through the word of God supplied on this album which are found in the scriptures provided for each song. If your trying to get to build an intimmate LOVE relationship with God, or trying to learn his ways I would prefer you get this classic release from cece winans. God bless you Cece for allowing God to use you in the ministry you have been a blessing to my family and I!!!
Life saving masterpiece.......2005-09-18
"Alone in His Presence" is a must if you are going through any kind of wilderness experience in your life and you need to be assured that God is always near you. In 1999, I spent some time in hospital due to life threatening pregnancy-related illness and I can honestly say along with the medical staff that were treating me that it was this album and this album alone that saved my life. The medics kept on saying to me "whatever you're listening to, keep playing it because it's working!" This album is a must!!
Annointed.......2003-08-06
God used this album to bring some great breakthroughs in my life. I definitely recommend this album for anyone going through the storms and even for those in a time of rejoicing.
So Sweet........2003-03-05
This CD will give you a feeling of comfort. Since this was her first solo, it was more of praise and worship. Her version of "I Surrender All", and "Blessed Assurance" are amazing. She sings them so well. I love "His Strength is Perfect" and "He's Always There."
This album is so beautiful!.......2001-07-09
Never before have anyone came along and sung as beautifully as Cece Winanas. Her songs are filled with so many emotions that her love for God is heard clearly throughout her album. Some songs like the "Blood Medley" or "I Surrender All" will bring tears to your eyes because CeCe sings it with such passion that you become overwhelmed with love for God. Whether you like ballads, upbeat songs, praise songs, or laid back songs you should buy this album because there's songs on here to suit everyone's taste in music. This album really helped me get in touch with God and love him even more than I do now.

10 star album!.......2007-02-12
I noticed one review gave this album less than 5 stars! Who in the hell could give this album less than 5 stars...it's a 10 star album baby! This is the best of the best of African American gospel music! Go CeCe you rock girl! Ya'll need to get up and groove to CeCe man I mean she is totally cool.
Gospel/Inspirational Music At Its Best.......2004-04-15
I feel bad for those out there who criticize this brother/sister duo. They are missing out on some good music! This cd is a must have for any BeBe/CeCe fan or for anyone who just needs to be uplifted and encouraged. The musical delivery is honest and refreshing...These two are definitely head and shoulders above their Gospel peers.
A Must-Have Spiritual Lift.......2004-04-06
I was never a particulary "spiritual" person before discovering Bebe and Cece Winans, but that all changed when I first heard their music about 8 years ago. This CD is a sensational "best of" collection with all of their greatest hits. Do not avoid buying this CD because you consider it "gospel" music - that is the unique thing about Bebe and Cece's music; it doubles as an anthem for one's relationship with god as well as their spouse/significant other. I have always said that if a married couple is considering a divorce, they should sit in a room together and listen to the track called "It's O.K." - it is a powerful and moving song that makes you realize that love can overcome any obstacles in a relationship. This is great CD - buy it with confidence and enjoy the way you feel listening to it.
Precious Memories.............2004-02-06
I grew up with the Winans! Bebe, Cece, The Winans Brothers, Vickie and the more recent Winans Phase II (by the way can anyone tell me where they went, I miss them man!!!!). But more to the point, I think that this album is heavy. It reaches young people in a way certain gospel artists can't. Also it gives u great memories!!! My fave tracks are:
Addictive Love
It's Ok
Heaven (my favourite!!!)
Celebrate New Life
Up Where We Belong (the classic tune)
I'll Take You There (another classic tune!!!)
For anyone who loves Bebe and Cece, the Winans in general or just good urban gospel get this!!! Bebe and Cece, when are u gonna do a reunion tour?! If it aint in your plans do make it to be one of them! Peace out!
This is an anointed album!.......2002-02-02
This is my favorite album, and BeBe and CeCe are my favorite artists. They are a dynamic and unique brother and sister duo who are following God's true calling in their lives to worship Him through their music. I have seen CeCe in concert and she is a very anointed woman of God. Anybody who says that BeBe and CeCe are not "spiritual" enough don't know what they're talking about- Jesus is a part of everything in our lives, even when we don't say His name out loud. All of the songs are Christ-centered, whether His name is mentioned or not. I would recommend this album to anybody.

Sacharrin sweet, with no Filling at all........2006-06-15
This is why Christianity is so hollow in this country. Take an R&B artist, and dash a few "I love you" and other generic "New Gospel" catchphrases, and Hey look everyone, it's a new Gospel artist. She has talent, but if this is gospel, let's change 50 cents' lyrics and put him in a suit. No substance, lots of style. Nothing to see here. Please move along.
It's a great songs.......2006-01-30
It's was a wonderful songs from each of them. I always play with that music all the time. All of the songs really does touched my heart and able to understand what CeCe was singing.
A Taste of Heaven.......2005-08-12
From the moment that I heard CeCe's voice, I knew that it was a gift from God. Her sultry voice and passion for Christ are truly displayed in every song on this album. This is a must have! Once you listen to this album, you will not be able to put it down. My kids love it so much that when I first bought the album, it was all that we listened to in the car for months. Their favorite is track #4, and they sing along with it! My son never use to sing before, but now it's "I wanna hear CeCe #4, mommy". Anyone who does not feel the spirit moving through her songs, truly does not understand the spiritualness, completeness, and fullness of God that is displayed here.
Once again, this is a must have!!
CeCe Winans...Powerful woman of God.......2004-12-27
I love CeCe,she is a big inspiration in my life and my twin sister aswell,we love he music, and we love her minstry, she is a powerful woman of God who is not ashame to praise God.I thank God for that,I love the way she worship that alone, does something to my spirit,by itself,an I thank God For it,I want to tell CeCe Thank, and God Bless U,Love Ashley!
The CD Cover Tells The Story!.......2004-04-16
CeCe is on fire and she's happy about it! Wonderful song selection, near perfect delivery. This cd proves that serving God can be an enjoyable experience. Those who enjoy more traditional style gospel music may not be impressed, but this cd is by far one of the best to have been released by any gospel artist. CeCe proves yet again why she is the "Princess"; there is NO ONE on the gospel scene who can dethrone her. This is music that soothes the troubled mind and just makes you happy to be alive! You should have purchased this cd, like, yesterday :)

While dated by its synthesized keyboard work, Heaven still stands as some of the best work BeBe and CeCe Winans have done. BeBe had a hand in writing each tune, with the exception of Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Water." The interplay of the two voices is striking amid the marriage of popular music's production values and Christian-based lyrics. Additionally, this disc laid a foundation that ushered in a new phase of contemporary gospel, paving the way for solo careers and the likes of Kirk Franklin and Sounds of Blackness. Heaven features longtime compatriot Whitney Houston as guest vocalist (nearly a decade later, CeCe and her old pal would have a hit with their track on the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack), and the duo caught some flak when some folks thought their material wasn't Christian enough. --Paige La Grone

Unlike anything I've heard before.......2005-05-28
This is a groundbreaking album to me. I have never been much of a fan of Contemporary Christian/Christian Rock/Christian Pop music-I've always thought that it was too cheesy and I didn't find it to match its message. (I always found traditional Gospel to have a more holy sound personally-it was a sound that I could identify more with. That's not to say that Christian Rock and similar genres have something wrong with them.) In fact, some time ago I listened to a couple of the songs on this album and didn't care for it back then. But last fall, something compelled me to pick up my mom's copy of the cassette and give it another try. I'm not sure what the cause was, but I do believe that whatever it was was of Divine origin. I enjoy the "Heaven" album (and lots of other Gospel music) like I enjoy almost no other music. It simply is like nothing that I've really heard before.
The album is very pop-there isn't much in the way of choirs or organs like in traditional Gospel music. That could be part of why I like it so much. I've always loved the music of the 1980's that was a little off-beat, a little underground. On top of the synthesized sounds are touching lyrics, sensitive vocals, and a heartfelt message of Christian love and devotion.
The album spawned four singles-"Heaven," "Celebrate New Life," "Lost Without You," and "Meantime." The title track has a sort of an ethereal "quiet storm" sound, with an alternately major and minor key. "Heavenly" percussion and synthesizers permeate the song. "Celebrate New Life" features Whitney Houston strongly in the background, with everyone singing sounding like they're having a lot of fun. I always find the song to be very sunny and energizing. "Lost Without You" is a mid-tempo ballad featuring electric pianos and once again lots of synthesizers. It sounds like it could have easily been recorded by the likes of Atlantic Starr, but this has a more holy Gospel touch to it. "Meantime" is a gentle and longing ballad for the Afterlife, as BeBe soulfully sings that he'll "keep on loving" God his whole life through.
The rest of the album isn't any weaker than the singles. "You" is a taste of the New-Jack Swing music style that was becoming popular around the time this album was released (late 1988), and proclaims that God is the answer to all the trouble in life. "Hold Up The Light," with an explosive performance by Whitney Houston as well as BeBe and CeCe, is memorable also. "Trust Him" is a mid-tempo, uplifting song in the style of 1980's music-lots of percussion, synths, and good background vocals.
The album contains a quality that many albums and songs don't for me-the ability to make me want to cry. Therefore I don't listen to some of these songs nearly as much as I listen to the rest. Ironically, "Don't Cry" to me sounds heartbreaking, as does the cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic "Bridge Over Troubled Water." The latter sounds like the duo are literally singing from Heaven, making for an ethereal experience. "Wanna Be More" is a piano-driven ballad written by BeBe that also has an uplifting message, but comes across as quite melancholy. I'm not taking away from these songs, but rather showing what an emotional impact they have.
Not everyone is going to like "Heaven"-in terms of Gospel music it's very non-traditional. But something about this album grabbed me (The Spirit of God?), and now I own almost all of BeBe and CeCe Winans' discography. I've always loved R&B music from the 1980's, and have been a Christian for a while now, and this is one of the first instances where the two matched greatly for me. (And that's not to say that the R&B music I listened to before I loved this album was dirty or sinful.) It's the dawning of a new love in my life and liking for music, and I'm sure that it will touch someone out there, too.
Kirk Franklin wasn't the first!.......2003-03-21
It seems as though fans of urban contemporary gospel think that Mr. Franklin was the first to have success on both the gospel and pop charts. Back in the 60's and 70's, Edwin Hawkins and Andrae Crouch scored big with songs that appealed to a wide audience.
In the late 80's and early 90's no one was larger on the gospel charts than the Winans siblings. BeBe and CeCe's music was a blend of religious ambiguity that allowed it to be seen as both secular and sacred. Some may have had issues with that melding but it worked for the pair and brought them legions of fans.
1988's "Heaven" showcased the two with such memorable and inspiring tunes as the title cut, "Celebrate New Life", "Hold Up the Light" (with guest Whitney Houston)" and a jaw-dropping rendition of Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" that puts the original to shame.
This is one album that supplies enough spiritual "food" to satisfy any "hunger".
Bebe and Cece's best work to date........2001-03-31
Although I am only 14 years old, this album, Heaven, has become one of my favorite cd's. My father bought this cd about 10 years ago and I have loved it since he first played it. If you want a gospel cd that is classic and inspirational, I reccomend this one.
His presence is felt.......2001-01-01
I bought this CD a few weeks ago, after searching for the artists on the Amazon site over a period of time. I remembered the song "Heaven" from the '80's and I was tirsty for the richness of their voice and the feeling that song brought to me. I can not explain it in words the feeling I get when listening to them. This song brings a feeling of His power and of the ever lasting life, without all the attachments that other gospel songs have. For me, it works very well. Perhaps others who are very spiritual, may feel this is not really gospel. In any even, I love this CD and thank God for bringing us the brother and sister who created it. The only reason I did not give this a five star is the other songs are not quite the same as this, though they give us another Heaven at the end! Lots of love to you all!
BeBe & CeCe's best.......1999-12-12
Nearly every song on the album is up to the same high standard set by the title track, "Heaven." The tunes are memorable, the instrumentals enhance the vocals rather than being barely-noticeable fillers, and the lyrics are a refreshing change from the hackneyed lyrics one often gets on Christian radio stations. As one of the other reviewers has said, this drew criticism from some, but anyone who listens carefully will see that the Christianity is there. It's subtle rather than in-your-face, and thus doesn't get tiresome. "Heaven" is an album that can and should be listened to over and over.

In the same year that Amy Grant achieved household-name status with her crossover album Heart in Motion, Bebe and CeCe Winans rocked out in celebration of Jesus' light with the amazing Mavis Staples on the duo's remake of the gospel-soul monster hit "I'll Take You There." Certified platinum, Different Lifestyles generated a chunk of No. 1 hits, placed at the top of both Billboard's gospel and R&B charts, and resulted in a slew of awards from the NAACP and the Dove and Grammy folks. Pal M.C. Hammer raps up something fierce, BeBe wails lead, and backing singers on the powerful booty-shaking "The Blood" include Whitney Houston and the original singing Winans: Marvin, Carvin, Ronald, and Michael. A major milestone in not only the group's career, the high-spirited Different Lifestyles marks a not-so-subtle shift and a generous achievement in the genre. --Paige La Grone

this is a great album.it provides tru innsight to a great spiritual relationship.Bebe and Cece make a great r&b/gospel dou.
Musical and Spiritual Perfection!.......2003-03-22
1991's "Different Lifestyles" comes as close as one can get in bridging the gap between secular and religious music. Like the other reviewers has stated, many of the selections here can be interpreted differently by the respective ear and inclination. This makes the album work for every interest.
The hits "Addictive Love" and "It's O.K." were revolutionary upon their original release. Now contemporary artists such as Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin commonly do songs of their types. Such is Bebe and CeCe's legacy.
While together they are magic, it is on two particular "solo" efforts where each gets a chance to show his/her unique interpretive skills. CeCe illuminates "Supposed to Be", a truly uplifting lyric extolling the virtues of giving one's life to the Lord. BeBe's solo offering, "Searching for Love", allows him to pull out all the passion of his vocal instrument in a song about the power of real, uncompromising love. The latter also features background backing and arrangement from a certain Luther Vandross.
And in homage to one of their musical foremothers, BeBe and CeCe are joined by Mavis Staples on a cover of The Staple Family's "I'll Take You There".
"Different Lifestyles" is one of the best from the 90's and deserves greater recognition AND increased sales.
A spiritual and soulful listening experience.......1999-12-01
On the CD "Different Lifestyles," the writing, production and vocals of BeBe & CeCe Winans reached a new plateau. Their third collaboration with producer Keith Thomas (of Amy Grant's "Heart in Motion" and "House of Love" fame) was filled to the rim with catchy hooks, spotless arrangements and soaring, soulful vocals. It even worked as a crossover of sorts: singles like "Depend on You" and "Addictive Love," while intended to sing the praises of God, could certainly be played from friend to friend or even lover to lover; with this album BeBe & CeCe gave new meaning to the concept that music should be universal. The title track is an eloquent musing of a humble, flawed human trying to meet God's expectations in a modern world, and a remake of the Staple Singers' hit "I'll Take You There" (featuring a cameo by Mavis Staples) is nothing short of breathtaking. Even when BeBe & CeCe sing about trying times (on "It's Ok" and the stunning "You Know and I Know") the lyrics convey a bright ray of hope amidst drop-dead gorgeous musical arrangements. And for instant sunshine and optimism, look no further than the happy pop shuffle of "Can't Take This Away," a song whose spirit is boosted with a full-bodied testament by the Calvary Choir. Throughout all of its production strengths BeBe & CeCe give some of the most soulful and joyous performances of their careers. This is one of those rare albums that succeeds within its genre and still invites fans from outside of it. Recorded in 1991, the only sign of dating itself is a guest rap by MC Hammer (on the funkfest "The Blood"); otherwise this immaculate and moving album -at once a portrait of a duo at the height of their artistry and a textbook for incomparable pop/soul production- is a timeless classic.
This is a top-notch album. It really moves you........1998-11-06
A friend of mine told me to buy the CD. Since I already liked a couple of the tracks heard on the radio, I decided to buy it. Boy, was I surprised. The songs on the album were so great. As it turned out, I ended up listening to it every, single morning so that my day got started on a "positive note". This is an album for anyone who isn't particularly spiritual (if you aren't, then this album will make you think and feel otherwise). The track, "The Blood" featuring MC Hammer and in the background vocals, Whitney Houston, is so awesome, so powerful.

At the height of her creative and vocal abilities in the late '90s, CeCe Winans weighed in heavily with this marvelously accessible collection of R&B-styled contemporary gospel. From the bouncy groove of "Well, Alright" to the vinyl-like crackle of "I Am" to the superb breakbeat spiritual of the Lauryn Hill-penned and -produced "On That Day," Winans has carved the keys to a city in which both the sacred and secular populations can dance. Twice given the Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year, Winans's voice has a supple and immediate strength without the histrionics of Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey. This is not only an important career record, but a gem that stands up against most any contemporary R&B. --Paige La Grone
Customer Reviews:
Well, Alright!.......2004-04-16
I've had this cd since it was first released and it is still as poignant now as it was then. That's the great thing about CeCe's music; it never grows old or tired. "Well, Alright" is easily the standout track on this cd and one of my personal favorites. Other highlights include, "What About You", "Everlasting Love", "Come on Back Home", "Just Come" and "On That Day" (w/Lauryn Hill in the background).
Let me not forget, "The Wind"...a beautiful song I've heard somewhere before, I think by a country singer. Nonetheless, it's great with CeCe's vocals as well. If you're tired of the contemporary gospel artists who try too hard to appeal to the younger demographic, pick up this cd, you won't be disappointed.
Everlasting Love (by: CeCe Winans).......2004-04-12
This release quickly became one of my all-time favorites, and to date is the only recording I have ever recommended! There's such a rich mixture of smooth and upbeat melodies, all with lyrics that are inspirational and provoke serious soul searching. Add to that, the fact that CeCe sings with such feeling that it adds a depth and warmth that's unique. And to top that off, she gives you several more than the customary number of tracks, enhancing the overall purchase value. This is a rare find. Obtain it for yourself, and be blessed!
Off the HOOK!.......2003-03-05
I really love this cd and all the songs. I'm a huge CeCe fan. My favorite song on the CD is "Everlasting Love". Because it simply let's you knew god's love is everlasting. It's eternal.
