Awesome Material. .......2005-11-06

This album is an absolute melting pot of versatility. Daryl has increased from exceptional vocalist to psalmist and choir director. His 14-member praise ensemble, Beloved, sang every song with his scintillating vocal arrangements. Many choirs are in dire need of some color in their vocal repertoire. So, when I heard this cd, I was like whoa!! Why can't all choirs and choruses display that "show" choir vibe that this group has? (i.e. Manhattan Transfer) Every song is colossal. "II Chronicles 7:14," "Because He's God," "I Need You," "Exchanged," "Oh, The Lamb," all of them have a wonderful message and a titillating style. The only setback is the sound quality of the production. The "live" sound was a bit airy. Not as bad as some, but it could have been better. It sounds like the acoustics in the church had some extra oxygen. It was almost like the singers were in a tin cup with a gigantic fan over them. Regardless of the dynamics of the "live" production, the studio songs, which were produced by Kevin Bond & The G.A.M.E were just as awesome as the rest of the material presented in this recording. I'm looking forward to hearing more from Daryl & Beloved in the future. Keep up the good work!

Excellent.......2003-06-29

Reverend Daryl is back and better than ever! After disappointing me, a long time fan with his last live recording "Live In Oakland: Home Again" he has made it up to me with this one. This recording also seems to establish Beloved, his 14 member ensemble, as his permanent backup singers moving Daryl from the male soloist club with Desmond Pringle and Alvin Slaughter to the ranks of choir director with artists such as Richard Smallwood and James Hall. To set this new deal in concrete Daryl doesn't even lead every song. In some songs we don't hear his amazing voice at all. Instead he opts to let some of the voices of Beloved bask in the spotlight, just like a loving pastor.
The album starts off with the rousing, "Because He's God", which Daryl leads with a female soloist from Beloved. The album then continues into the midtempo "II Chronicles", in which the ensemble shows off their vocal skills mimicking Reverend Coley's riffs. Next is "He'll Make A Way", written by Reverend Coley's teenage son Teceion Coley. Other standouts on the album are the studio recorded cover of Milton Brunson & the Thompson Community Singers "For The Good Of Them", the salsa flavored "Lift Your Name On High", lead by an unnamed member of Beloved, the deep lyrics of "Silent Scream" written by Gospel hit maker V. Michael Mc Kay are mangled by an unnamed male who spoon feed's Daryl the lyrics to the song [How Kirk Franklin of him?]. It would have been better for Daryl to do this one alone. Then there's the jazzy "I Need You", lead by Reverend Coley and the rousing and modulative "He's Worthy", led by an unnamed female member of Beloved. The album ends with the studio recorded "He Can Work It Out", lead by Coley.
Besides having all of these talented folk from Beloved being unnamed with their songs, the album's great!

One of Daryl's Best.......2002-12-30

For those of you who do not have this album....This is one of Daryl's best. His vocal skills can not be matched by any other male Gospel artist. This album is truly a blessing. The songs I enjoy on this album are "He's God" (funky tune with brash guitar riffs), "Heal the Land" (By far my favorite), "Oh the Lamb" (will have you raising your hands anywhere), and "Work It Out". The rest of the material is nice also, I just enjoy these songs more. If you don't have this album, you're missing out on a treat. This is a truly wonderful project and I am not a big Daryl Coley fan. I am a huge fan of his vocal ability, but his albums except for a few songs (the popular ones) never did anything for me until this one. I was never really pushed to buy one of his albums until this one released. Finally, anytime an artist works with Kevin Bond you know his/her project will be tight. (i.e.-Donnie McClurkin, T.D. Jakes, Donald Lawrence) Any of those names sound familiar?

Inspirational.......2001-07-10

I recently purchased this album and it has confirmed in my mind that Daryl Coley is still one of the finest singers around. After losing both parents within a month of each other (which would affect anyone - I don't care who you are), he has managed to stay focussed and do what he does best - sing to the honour and glory of the Most High God.

There are some amazing tracks on this album, such as, 'Because He's God', 'Silent Scream', 'II Chronicles', 'Oh the Lamb' and a fine re-working of 'For the Good of Them'. The choir/group and musicians Daryl Coley works with are fantastic, and everything comes together beautifully.

They are masters of their craft. They blend their voices with the music in a way that is refreshing to listen to. It is jazzy, and contemporary, but never strays from its gospel sounding roots.

There is a saying, "What ever is worth doing, is worth doing well." This album is well done!

Go ahead, treat yourself.

I have been a big supporter of Darryl Coley for 14 years. He is an anointed and talented man of God. His songs are always encouraging, full of power, worship and variety. He offers something for the young and old alike. He has a unique voice and style that is captivating.

I come from a classical music background and wish to congratulate the producers of this CD. For the first time ever, to my knowledge, here is a CD that's incredibly straightforward and extremely simple - perfect material for babies and young children. By no means a classical music masterpiece but the entire easiness and simplicity is perfect to ease any child into a positive state of mind as it does with my baby and toddler. For the Bambino's, I say this is a cut above Mozart. ( Give 4 stars)

Majors for Minors- classical music nursery rhymes.......2002-04-25

...My wife and I have used the Majors for Minors series for the last three years, we have two small children and can only praise the positive results our children have had from these CD'S.

I can only assume that G Spanos is a music academic and authority on classical music, however from what I know of the research that went into this series the mucis is purely a classical interpretation and the success is actually created by sound frequencies and specfic patterns which the producers have used.

The fact that the product uses digital instruments as opposed to authentic instruments from what I understand has no bearing on how this product works.

I admit as a lover of classical music myself that there is far supeior available, however as a product designed to calm and assist with active and passive situations during a childs daily life - there is nothing better in the market (from what we know of) and we have used many other products designed for this purpose wthout success!

My knowldege of Majors for Minors workings is probably better than most average person, due to the fact that when I was in the UK on business, I read an article in a London newspaper which gave detail on how the produsers of this product went about their research and they admitted that their compilations such as the nursery rhymes and the lullabies would sound rather monotonous to the average adult, however the effect on children under three is excellent.

We challenge G Spanos or any parent with young children to use this product and not experience the incredible benefits to their children as my wife and I have found. In fact we would go as far as saying that the principles of this product should try and do alot more to make Majors for Minors more known to the rest of the world.

Classical Music Nursery Rhymes.......2002-04-19

I bought this CD for my 5th child, who has special needs when he was 5yrs old. I had struggled with 5yrs of disturbed nights; frequently up for 2hr stretches. I would play it in the sitting room whilst cuddling/rocking my son. I would concentrate my mind on the music, rocking patting, walking in time with the beat, until he slept. Because my son frequently needs attention during the night he sleeps in our room, and for the last year or so whenever he wakes at night I play this music softly, it does not disturb my husband and it gives me a focus on which to concentrate instead of mulling over the day ahead or worrying about matters. It has been our nightly friend and companion. Please send us your comments about Majors for Minors.

AVOID THIS CD.......2002-03-11

DO NOT BUY THIS CD !! This cd purports to be Classical Music Nursery Rhymes. It is nursery rhyme melodies, but completely homogenized pablum. It is not classical, it is synthesizers - the worst kind of muzak versions, with the melodies practically hidden away in the synthesized "new age" (in the worst sense of the word) background/easy listening, mellow accompaniments. It might be ok for putting kids to sleep, but I can think of much better music to do that, that is real music. If you are looking for real versions of nursery rhyme melodies, this is NOT the cd to buy.

The performance in Czech is necessary to fully appreciate charm of songs and rhyme schemes, even if you don't know Czech. Good recording of a very decent (but not the very best) Czech children's chorus. To compound lack of libretto, the track titles for operetta are completely useless. Fortunately the pronounciation is very clear. The folk songs are a nice compliment to the opera and emphasize Czech children's connection.

It's wonderful to be able to hear a recording of this piece, and this one is quite well done. I only wish that the text/translation were to appear in the CD booklet. You may find it very frustrating not to know what is being sung. I know I do.

Short and simple children's opera.......2000-06-14

This short (less than 25 minutes) children's opera was composed in 1938 by Krasa and was performed more than 50 times in the tragic circumstances in Terezin. As expected from a children's opera, the music is very simple, appealing and vivid. This performance is the first substantial performance and the music is delivered very convincingly. If you want to sample the music which was composed or performed in Terezin you shouldn't hesitate in srarting right here.

A passionate, moving, spiritual, uplifting selection of Russian church music presented by a variety of different groups and performers. I was happy with the sound quality. I have listened to this cd many times and always find new pleasures its powerful and joyful content.

Excellent performance - but faulty recording.......2001-05-02

This CD brings us a true superproduction of excellent Russian liturgical music, exquisitely performed by a large choir of men and boys. But unfortunately many of the louder passages are plagued by severe overload distortion which detracts quite a lot from the listening joy. Without this technical flaw, this album would have earned 5 stars.

This excerpt disc comes from Shaw's mid-Sixties Messiash, one of the first (along with Mackerras on EMI and Colin Davis on Philips) to offer the small-scale chorus and orchestra that have now become standard. There's only a primitive attempt to osund 'authentic,' but that hardly matters in the choruses.

What does matter is Shaw's superb selection of professional New York singers. Making up the Robert Shaw Chorale for more than twenty years, they remain the gold standard for choral singing on records. The unity and balance to be heard here are miraculous, and even though Shaw wasn't the greatest Baroque conductor, this aspect of his Messiah is glorious. Too bad that RCA doesn't get some of the edge off the recorded sound.
