3 out of 5 stars My View Review.......2004-04-16

I felt the CD has some beautiful songs. I just feel that he should try to appeal to more than just 16-24. Some people are a little more traditional. He made no attempt to communicate with those of use who have been in church since child hood. True enough I am 28 and I do like contemporary urban gospel. He came really close with 'Uh Uh Peace'. The entire cd is wonderful I just believe that he should want to touch more than just one generation. For example: an a capella spiritual, a traditional sunday morning song with a foot stompin' hand clappin' feel of his own original words, maybe a country gospel toon. I just feel like he has boxed himself in to one avenue. I don't see the creativity.

Make no mistake, I love the CD. I listen to it regularly.

5 out of 5 stars Loving Greg O'quin's title cut "Unh-Unh".......2003-05-08

If you don't have this CD, then you should get it in a hurry. I heard one cut ( title: Unh-Unh) and fell in love with it, then I bought the whole CD, and it is "AWESOME", (One of the cuts on this CD). This is definitely by far the best I have heard from Greg O'quin. As long as he (Mr. O'quin) keeps telling the storm, everything is going to be great. God has really worked in you with this project. It is rejoicing to my soul everytime I hear it (everyday, all-day). GOD IS "EVERYTHING" (another cut).

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect CD If Your Going Through A Storm.......2003-01-10

thiz cd is wonderful and it will minister to your soul if you are going through a storm because the songs help you get through your storm. the song Unh-unh! and I told the storm tells you what to tell your storm. I really liked the interludes and Greg's storm because he is real with what was going on in his life and how he made it through his storms because "my God surrounds us"

5 out of 5 stars Anointed.......2002-06-06

Saints let me tell ya. When I first got the cd I was a pretty big O'quin fan. But when I put the cd in I got to the first couple of songs and judged them by the beat so I did what most people probably did and fast-forwarded to "I told the Storm (Remix)". Well I gave the cd another chance the next day at work and as I have been going through some thing I was praying and the Lord opened my ears and heart to "Awesome", "Unh-Unh!" and "I told the Storm" the Spirit began to sit in and minister to me. A word is what I receive (present tense) when I listen to it.
For anyone that's going through you need this cd for anyone that's not you need this cd b/c we all have storms come in our lifes.

5 out of 5 stars great CD.......2001-09-17

This CD is in the stores now - great CD - if you have the opportunity to pick this one up - you will love it - not saying that because - it is awesome. Shouts out to James Pickney a member of Greg O'Quin and Joyful Noyze and a member of Pleasant Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

My eight year old granddaughter and I listen, laughing as we try to sing the silly songs (the lyrics are included). As a recently retired teacher, I believe it builds her linguistic skills but she simply finds it silly and fun. Although she likes them all, she is best at Oodles and Oodles of Noodles.

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant or Schlock?.......2001-06-17

It's hard to appreciate Alex Chilton's Clichés if all the listener is seeking is a rememberence of the power-pop melodies of Big Star. You ain't gonna find that here. But Chilton strangely reverts back to his soulful youth, covering jazz and soul classics with a soft leathery voice that still makes your bones tingle. He accomplishes no small feat, giving the listener something he doesn't want to hear ("Dammit, where's Don't Lie To Me???") but still putting a smile on their face. This is truly wonderful music. Great chill-out tunes for when you're alone.

    5 out of 5 stars Cliches.......2000-03-12

Not very many artist are able to go into the studio and with one guitar, one mike and no fancy production tricks and perform these old standards the way Alex Chilton has done. The selections range from the sublime to alittle smaltzy, but the performances are outstanding and highlight the power of raw, no frillsrecording.

5 out of 5 stars Stays with you.......1999-11-25

I would imagine Alex has taken some heat for this CD of mostly old standards done solo with acoustic guitar. However, the song choices are consistently terrific, and the performances are heartfelt without any of the pitfalls this sort of performance can encounter (sappy, overly ironic, overly interpreted). The songs are performed in an understated way that allows the qualities of the songs themselves to stand equal with the caring performance. I have returned to this CD often over the past couple of years.

this is, in so many words, a masterpiece of musicianship...

gooding's propensity for creating so many moods at once is unequaled...

this is, at once, an instrumental blitzkrieg, overpowering then destroying your belief that one person could create this; and then, you succumb to his endless power of music and let him take you wherever he wants to take you...

new age without all the 'quasi religious' trappings... guitar god without all the testorone... technical precision without all the eddie van halen wankinesss...

it is a soundtrack for your life, and also a soundtrack for what you wish your life could be...

you will not want this to end..,

and, when it does, i guarantee, you will be hitting play again...

      over, over, and over again..

5 out of 5 stars the master of music.......2001-02-20

It is difficult to place into simple words the amazing talent contained in this one human being. To not listen to this disc or any of the music he's released is to shortchange your ears!!! The dramatic blend of high octave piano with rich guitar along with his master for producing and engineering, fuses together a rich and profoundly unique sound. Not only is this CD amazing, all of them are! I've seen this phenomenol artist perform and his humble and genuine gift shines when he is on stage. Don't miss out on the chance to discover this music for yourself whether live or in your stereo--it's a must have!

      5 out of 5 stars master musician.......2000-07-31

Gooding is a phenomenal artist, who is the writer, arranger, performer, and engineer on each of his releases. At least the two I personally own. I discovered his CD, which can be difficult to locate, in a coffee house during my travels in Kansas. I noticed on the jacket a young charismatic guitarist an ask the manager, who was more than willing to accommodate, for a sample. He obliged an advised that Gooding had performed at his place two weeks ago. His favorite was Winters Return and thirty seconds into track 1 I purchased both the Gooding disk he had available. The music for me is powerful and thought provoking, contemporry and yet classic. The arrangements of instruments and rhythm are Goodings strenghts. Piano and heavy bassline goove with spanish/classical style guitar, sometimes electric. Each song develops with drama and intensity with a break for reflection. Always progressive with powerful mid tempo percussion, never excessive. The guitar craftsmanship is superb, never excessive or irratating either. The occassional piano adds a beautiful and enchanting dimension to a very progressive work. I listen as I write,.....this album definitely tailors to the adult genre when compared to other works by Gooding. I guess I'm borderlone at thirty. Go for it, you won't regret it, I promise.

5 out of 5 stars passionate and empowering!.......1999-10-14

I have known Steve since highschool and listened to his sound change and grow....This is by far his best work ever...if you have tons of work to do and need to get it done yesterday, this is the cd to listen to. I can't explain how it transends time and takes me to another world..one where I actually meet deadlines :) And this is only a taste of the talent that lies within him. Now that he has brought the greatest drummer alive (Jesse Reichenberger)back with him. Look out! And look for his latest..."Disarray"

        3 out of 5 stars what a dif a year makes.......2007-03-24

This album is weak compared to radio free brooklyn. Doesn't have the same edge lyrically, and the beats don't measure up either. Honestly I shoulda saw it comin, as this goes for a buck, and r.f.b goes for several times that. I like pete, just hope he doesn't lose the desire.

        5 out of 5 stars Profoundly Deep........2006-05-26

Pete's lyrical skills are amazing, hands down. I never got tired listening to this album. There are so many things you can relate to with Pete, as everything that he spits is about his own experiences. His concepts are fresh and worthy of great respect. For those of you who are tired of the direction mainstream hip-hop is going, I highly reccomend this album. And even if you dont listen to hip-hop, Camouflage Is Relative will change your views on this genre forever.

5 out of 5 stars one hell of an album.......2005-08-27

This album starts off with a great intro track, which is amazing. Then that trend continues until the end of the album, every track shows work in it and Pete Miser can actually rhyme unlike your more famous artists (Eminem, 50 cent, the game to name a few) He really talks about things that you can relate to (I doubt that any of the famous rappers go to the `hood in an Escalade because we all know they would be robbed!) such as ex-girlfriends, and he talks about the rap industry in my favorite song "table scraps". This album is purely great and is a must if you prefer DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince to Eminem, or the Wu-Tang Clan to Snoop Dogg.

5 out of 5 stars Instantly Accessible yet Different.......2005-08-09

As soon as the first track begins, you know you're in for a treat. The CD features tight and funky beats, and the rhymes are inventive as well as catchy. Really great hip-hop; one of the best releases of the year. It has not left my CD player for the past six months.

        4 out of 5 stars I blame Atomfilms..........2005-05-11

Have you seen the Scent of a Robot video? Do that. Now. Relish the beats, the seamless lyrics, the apparent intelligence. Then have a listen to the full CD. Sense a theme here?

I don't know much, but I know this is some 'Sierra Hotel Sierra'.

The beats are clever, the samples are EXTREMELY tight...the only reason I can't give this a 5-star is I get the sense his next will be as good or better, and I want room to grow my scale. ;-)

I thoroughly enjoyed this talented performer's C.D. filled with a variety of sounds which shows no limit to his incredible range of musical ability. Each song was fresh, different and lyrical, and both my husband and myself agree he is a rising star with no bounds to his success!

5 out of 5 stars "Small Price" is worth any price!.......2000-03-28

Whoever the listener, whatever the background, anyone that truely listens to lyrics within a song will appreciate what "Small Price to Pay" has to offer. The words, the music, the vocals, the entire package is uncommonly pleasant and enjoyable to listen to; again and again. A portion of the tracks on this CD contain a refreshing amount of honesty and simplicity that showcase the love and passion that the artist has for his trade, while remaining songs exhibit straightforward talent that is obvious throughout the disc. The artist has a gift to maintain a high level of intensity without detaching himself from the subject matter of each track, regardless of whether the song is one with a slow, thoughtful emotional embrace or if it is a cut that overflows with energy and excitement. Either way, the listener will find themselves identifying with the lyrics and truely enjoying the music put forth on "Small Price to Pay"! The lyrics are good, the content is good, the music is good. This is a collection of 10 great songs by a guy who just seems to be destined for stardom.

Hutton wrote all the songs on this disc, and he displays a great range in theme and style. The album provides something for everyone. Hutton moves effortlessly between country-rock tunes like "Can't Stop Falling," and "Cold Hard Cash," a couple of down-home gospel songs("Run Like Hell" and "Hometown Revival"), and emotional anthems like "Small Price to Pay" and "Until We Meet Again."

As a songwriter, Hutton has the ability that so many of the great ones have: to find universal truths in everyday situations and wrap them up in a memorable 3-minute package.

But perhaps the most notable thing about the songs on Small Price to Pay is their striking honesty. These songs never sound cliched or contrived, like so much of the stuff that comes out of the Nashville music machine. Hutton lays out his soul on this disc, from beginning to end, and that effort makes it a great experience for the listener.
