5 out of 5 stars A Time Capsule of Superb Music!.......2006-04-16

The Sandi Patti "I" years, have a "Greatest Hits" album. Finest Moments brings together Sandi's best work from her most prolific decade in Christian Music. From start to finish, this album brings the best music from her finest albums from 1979 to 1989. By today's standards, this album is dated; hence Sandi changed her last name back to "Patty" in 1995. However, Sandi never fails to bring her fans the utmost best and this album does NOT disappoint. If you want a high powered album full of richly orchestrated songs, powerful lyrics that praise the power god, this is for you.

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest Christian singers of my time.......2004-12-29

This is just a showcase of some the greatest Christian songs, sung by one the greatest Christian singers. That voice... magnificent!!!

5 out of 5 stars Vocalist of vocalists!.......2004-05-20

Some have called her the Barbra Streisand of Christian music but Sandi Patty has pipes that blow any singer off any American Idol stage. Int his collection, she shows her amazing control over her voice. From slow ballads to upbeat hymns to grand hymns, she can belt when she needs to and knows when to pull back.

She adds an extra dimension to the songs through the conviction in her voice. Truly, she had been blessed with a voice from God.

5 out of 5 stars Finest Moment is to Listen to Sandi Patty.......2003-09-12

When I first heard Christian artist, Sandi Patty "Lift Up the Lord' album in the late 80s, I was so mesmerized by the beauty and simplicity of her voice. It was the sound of angels singing from heaven. I was hooked from then on. She's that phenomenal. Sorry, Amy Grant fans, but Sandi Patty beats her by a landslide. It broke my heart about her plight in her personal life that rocked her singing career. It was at the height of this Grammy and Dove award winner's climb to success. But, thank the wonderful grace of a Loving God, Sandi Patty still sends chills down your spine. The album includes her #1 song, "How Majestic is Your Name" and "They Could Not" (both from the 'Lift Up the Lord' album). Too bad that "He'll Hold Your Heart" didn't make it on this album. "Upon This Rock," "O Magnify the Lord" and "More Than Wonderful" (duet with Larnelle Harris) will give you goosebumps. Get the adrenaline flowing with "Pour on the Power." "We Shall Behold Him" a great song of hope and a great message that one day we will all behold the Lord Jesus in the air. "Via Dolorosa" is a beautiful tale of Jesus' journey of the Cross from the street of sorrows to the hills of Calvary to be crucified. WOW! what an album and a God-gifted singer all wrapped up in one package. I guarantee that you'll fall in love with the Lord after hearing this! GUARANTEED!

5 out of 5 stars Her voice is that of an angel...........2003-01-01

I bought this for the first time back in the early 90's...I have worn it out twice and now buying it again. This CD is timeless and I don't care where you stand with the Lord.....If you listen he will come!!!! :) Thank you Sandi Patti and thank you Jesus for giving us Sandi Patti.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best Country Album Compilation Available!.......2002-09-03

This was the first album to be released under "The Best of Austin City Limits" from their vast library of classic country music. It delivers the best country album compilation I've ever heard. With the likes of Mary Chapin Carpenter's "I Feel Lucky" (and you will if you own this great album) to Waylon Jennings "I've Always Been Crazy" and Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man", all the great country music venues are explored here. From slow, tender love songs to foot-stompin' tunes, the minutes race by like an old iron horse headed west into the sunset as you listen to your favorite hits. It all ends too soon, but lively, with "Boogie Back to Texas" by Asleep At The Wheel. If you don't own this album, get it. Then do someone else a favor--share it!

5 out of 5 stars Great Compilation.......2002-01-16

From the familiar first words, "Its Austin City Limits" followed by the unmistakeable voice of Merle doing "Silver Wings", this CD captures what the show is all about. I listen to this CD at least once a week! Just buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Who had to choose the best ofý?.......2000-05-09

"Austin City Limits" has been on the air since 1976. How does somebody arrive at the 16 best performances from those 24+ years!

Anybody who watches ACL regularly is aware that it certainly isn't just country music; some of the best acts I've seen have been Stevie Ray Vaughan, Danny Gatton, John Mayall, The Neville Brothers. This collection, however, definitely leans toward "country" acts. (I believe there's a "blues best of" compilation as well.) With so much material available, something would definitely be wrong if there were a dud performance in a 16-cut collection, and there's not. (The disc is a mere 51 ½ minutes - why not 20 or 25 minutes more?) Some of my favorites: a rockin' "Blue Side of Town" by Patty Loveless, "Baby Now That I've Found You" by Alison Krauss, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones.

I'd really like to be able to purchase my favorite ACL programs from over the years, either video or audio, but alas, they blame licensing / royalty complications. So I guess these "Best of" compilations will have to do. And this one does nicely.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......1998-08-04

This has to be one of the finest collection albums ever put together. The sound is crisp, clear and the song selection is superb. Every country fan will know the songs on this one. I highly recommend this album.

Chess Records may not have had the grit of Stax or the impact of Motown when it came to soul, but the label certainly had its share of success. Between 1961 and 1971, chart-toppers like Etta James, Fontella Bass, Little Milton, and the Dells kept enough money rolling in to leverage the stronger, but weaker-selling, blues side of Chess. Crucial cuts by all these acts can be found in this two-CD compilation along with fine work from many lesser-knowns. Chess preferred the softer side of soul with string arrangements (the Gems' "I Can't Help Myself," the Knight Brothers' "Temptation 'Bout to Get Me"), but they managed to balance out their catalog with some sweatier material (Etta James and Sugar Pie DeSanto's "Do I Make Myself Clear," Laura Lee's "Dirty Man"). Highlights include Jan Bradley's sugar-sweet "Mama Didn't Lie," the Kolettes' punchy "Who's That Guy," Maurice & Mac's propulsive "You Left the Water Running," and (of course) the Fontella Bass classic "Rescue Me." This probably should have been expanded into a box set, but there's more than enough first-class music here to make it a must-have for soul fans. --Ken Hohman

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Top Notch Chicago Soul from Chess.......2001-06-16

The Chicago Soul sound was distinguished by it's emphasis on appealing and beautiful harmony and melody, much of it the trademark of Curtis Mayfield and producer Johnny Pate. It is well represented on this CD with beauties as "Voice Your Choice" by the Radiants, "The Entertainer" By Tony Clarke (not to be confused with the Scott Joplin tune, but still an underrated masterpiece), "Selfish One," "mama Didn't Lie," Billy Stewart's "Strange Feeling," Gene Chandler's "To Be A Lover." Even if you did not grow up with this music, it will certainly make you feel good!

5 out of 5 stars essential.......1999-11-04

Anyone with even a passing interest in '60s Soul should not be without this in their collection. Not a bad apple in the bunch. Absolutely essential.

5 out of 5 stars "Lost Soul".......1998-08-24

Even though I grew up in the mid-west in the 60's listening to WLS and WLAC, I only remember a few of the songs on this double album. But all of the others seem like "old friends," and match those found in any STAX collection. Chess also has some great Blues collections, but if Soul's your game, this is one of the best!

5 out of 5 stars Great compilation.......1998-05-13

I missed the soul celebration of the sixties and early seventies, probably in a drug induced stupor. This two CD set is a great way to get caught up. The selection is wonderful, the sound quality is too. I hate to say one song could possibly be worth the price of a CD set, but Fontella Bass singing for Respect comes close.
