Great CPD.......2007-01-10
Great Cherry Poppin' Daddies. An eclectic mix -- as usual. With this kind of variety, you may not like every tune -- but, you're bound to find something new you like, if your a CPD fan.
if you really love music..............2005-12-17
the daddies are for you. i am lucky enough to own all of their work and with the exception of ferociously stoned (their first release), they are all awesome. this is my #1 favorite cd out of all their work. an adventure in musical styles, you will be surprised with every song.
Buy this CD... seriously........2002-01-23
Everything I was ever looking for in music, I found in Rapid City Muscle Car. Skyline Drive is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It is probably the most diverse album you can get and all of the musicians are as talanted as they come. I picked up the CD in an obscure shop on a vacation in Virginia, and it really is all I can remember about the trip. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying that Virginia was borning, that's just how powerful this album was. Okay maybe a little boring...
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, or at least listen to the samples. All of them.
CPD is the best band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......1999-10-24
The Cherry Poppin Daddies are a wonderful band. I really like this CD. Infact out of the four it is my favorite. It has all different kinds of music. The Lyrics are touching. As I said it before they are a wonderful band!
this cd w/o a doubt receives a 5 from me~.......1999-10-17
ok, well, i heard zoot suit riot on the radio, went out and bought the cd. I LOVED IT. so a couple of months later I bought this one, "rapid city muscle car." Quite frankly, i didn't like it. I put it away for a while. When I started to like rock and ska more, I got it back out and started listening to it. I listened to some of the tracks, grew to love some of them, avoided the rest. Then one day, I was in a, well, mood, where I just put it on, and well, more of the songs grew on me. I listened to the entire CD every day, just lettin' it run, u know. I started to learn the words and started to feel the music, and the great, let me stress that, GREAT, lyrics, got me to thinkin' this ain't no ordinary band. I would start singing in school, it was to the point where I would wanna go home just to listen to it!(if i wasn't doing anything more useful than sittin' at a friends house) I mean I have not bought a full length CD in like a year, besides the CPD! why u ask? because I didn't need to! I mean i bought singles and everything but this CD, and the Zoot Suit Riot CD have kept me goin' for like a year and a half now. So let me tell you ppl who came to read my review, if you think this cd is swing, well it is a little, but if you're like me and all you lived for was swing, consider this cd the revolution in your life. it sure changed me, and i guarantee you it'll change you- It got your swing, some rock, punk, ska, even a touch o' country. no matter, you'll love it, so buy it.

Pretty good.......2006-09-02
What people need to realize is that if you are going to go into Cherry Poppin' Daddies back catlogue you need to realize that it isn't like 'Zoot Suit Riot.' Cherry Poppin' Daddies have a wide range of music on every c.d. In 'Kids On The Street' they have like one swing song, a lot of ska/punk songs, and then old rock and country songs. Overall if you are very open minded you will appreciate all their work. Not to mention Steve Perry, to me, has some great lyrics. If you want to by old c.d.s from Cherry Poppin' Daddies start with 'Rapid City Muscule Car' that is a great album then get 'Soul Caddy' amazing lyrics on that album.
Sounds like: Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Aquabats, Royal Noise Brigade
Wow.......2003-03-22
I bought Soul Cadillac about 2 years ago listened to it once and then forgot about it until this year. I needed to hear more. Kids on the Street rocks. There are no bad tracks. this band is so versatile, the songs are clever. This is ska, so if you are expecting swing you may be disappointed or pleasantly surprised. You can't find this kind of stuff on the radio. I anxiously await Rapid City Muscle Car.
Amazing........2002-12-26
I've had this CD for several years, and after hearing it again recently, I feel I owe Cherry Poppin' Daddies a good review. This CD is out of this world. As you grow, your taste in music grows, and this CD has a favorite song for every genre of music that anyone can grow through. I honestly did not think it was possible for a band to write the best song of a genre, and then do it for a different genre, and again for a different one.. it doesn't end. Honestly, you owe it to yourself to buy this CD. While they may be more "swingy" now, this CD only shows a hint of swing. The lyrics are truly breathtaking.. so much further above and beyond anything that you've ever heard. Each band member is absolutely terrific at what they play. The CD is put together well, it's not like one of those CDs where, if you have some friends over, you want to get up and skip over some not so good tracks to impress them. This is one where you can let it play on, and each track they're guaranteed to like. Some say that this CD is a little poppy, as if they were trying to get on the radio. I guarantee they weren't trying to get on the radio, they were trying to show you that they could even go into that area of music strongly enough as all the other areas that they've conquered.
Hope this helps... bottom line is, buy this CD, you won't regret it. Honestly, the only better thing you could do with 15 bucks is donate it to charity.
Rockin.......2000-02-26
Well, if you are gonna buy this album you shouldn't expect what you hear on CPD's Zoot Suit Riot. This album is mix of a bunch of different stlyes and it hits great hights with Irish Whiskey, Don Quijote, Millionare, We'll always have Paris, and Kids on the Street. This CD didnt let me down at all, and will lead you into the CPD world of a band that is not resricted to play one style of music. Definitly add it to your CPD section to your CD colection.
if i hadnt read the reviews i would have hated this cd.......2000-01-16
this is not swing... more like punk-ska. luckily i was expecting this after i got zoot suit riot. but if you're like me and love punk and ska as much as swing it will be all good

Interesting..........2006-08-24
Cherry Poppin' Daddies first album and all I can say is funk. Yes there are some swing songs, but the album leens more towards funk. The only swing songs on here are the ones on their greatest hits album 'Zoot Suit Riot.' Overall the album is good, if you are open minded and curious seeing where the Cherry Poppin' Daddies came from. Yes the lyrics are sexual and comical, but with the music they play it fits right.
Sounds like: Royal Noise Brigade, Aquabats, Reel Big Fish
One of the best albums ever........2004-05-17
I don't know how many hundreds of times I have listened to the album and it still holds up as one of my favorites. The first time I heard any of their songs was a live performance at Speedy O' Tubs in Bellingham, Washington (probably 1990 or 1991). This is an incredible band and as great as this album is the Daddies are even better live. One thing though, this is not a pure Swing style album, it is more a cross between swing, punk and rock, add to that some incredible lyrics from Steve Perry and you end up with "Ferociously Stoned." If you are a fan of pure Swing you will probably be disappointed by parts of the album but if you are a fan of really good music that combines various styles and doesn't follow some boring formula then this is for you. While some are at times offended by some of the lyrics I find them to be very honest and often humorous, you really come away understanding just how disturbed Steve Perry's childhood must have been after listening to "Drunk Daddy". Russ Meyer fans will especially enjoy "Flovilla Thatch vs. the Virile Garbage Man." This CD deserves a place in any true music lover's collection.
if I could have only on cd.............2001-12-09
This would be it.... I bought my original copy at one of their shows in bellingham,Wa.... All I can say is... if you don't own it yet... spend the money...
Greatest Album Ever.......2001-07-10
How can anyone knock this album. it is only the greatest album recorded by any artist. i mean the funky groves of Diabolic Tastemaker and Dirty Mutha Fuzz (my personal favourite) plus the swing tunes of Drunk Daddy and Master and Slave make this THE best CD. of course some people are adverse to the lyrics in the songs, but i say you guys are just soft. the lyrics rule, and the songs are even better. so all you CPD haters, get lost and all you CPD lover embrace this CD as their personal best achievement.
EVERY SONG ON FEROCIOUSLY STONED IS EXELLENT!.......1999-09-07
EVERY SONG ON FEROCIOUSLY STONED IS EXELLENT!
The Cherry Poppin' Daddies are fireing up another album soon, tenatively titled "Soul Caddilac". Will it be a swing record like ZSR was? Sort of. Swing has always been a part of CPD's music. Will it be like "Ferociously Stoned"? Sort of.
Everyone must realize that ZSR is a collection of "swingin hits" and is a collection of songs from earler CD's. Zoot Suit Riot does not indicate the extent of the band's music, or the scope of their style! (Look for a twist of soul on the new album.)
The only thing one can expect when hearing a CPD album for the first time is: some songs will be rock/swing/punk/power pop or whatever CPD decides to do.
Bottom line: CPD does what they have ALWAYS done, and that is to make Great albums. Accept the Daddies for what they are. Order Ferociously Stoned, and all the other CPD albums and expect only one thing: excellent music.

Fun and unpretentious.......2005-12-10
This is a great, light-hearted CD. The group obviously enjoys playing their music. They take on weighty subjects with levity that betrays their eternal perspective. The music is a mix of rock, ska, and unpretentious fun. They mix upbeat tunes with introspective ballads. Great CD to add some spice to your collection or to stick in the car CD player, role down the windows and recapture the joy of driving.
Makes you feel happy, happy, happy!.......2001-12-12
My 15 year old daughter bought this CD and loved it so much that she wore it out! My yougher daughter and I (the 40+ mom) both really liked it, too. All of the songs have a great message and are fun!

A rather unique off-the-cob entertainment experience.......2005-05-25
Playing Time - 46:55 -- In Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy, NC, the Snappy Lunch Café buzzes with the energy of bees in a hive. They make a pretty good pork chop sandwich, and you can "cut it in half, and eat it twice." The VW Boys establish a downhome theme with their lively tribute to the diner in this "Carolina Town" known to many as Mayberry in Andy Griffith's TV show of the 1960s. The VW Boys' approach to entertainment includes music, as well as humorous narrative, impersonations, jokes and even sound effects. Want to get a crowd singing along? Well, just write a song called "Saturday Night" with three words - "It's Saturday Night." With a format that resembles a radio show, the set also includes old folk favorites (Froggy Went a Courtin', La-De-Tu-Dum), bluegrass (Low & Lonely), gospel (When I Wake Up to Sleep No More), and originals like the ones mentioned above. The constant laughter behind "I Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" is a tad bit annoying. The CD also includes photos, video, biographies, and website link.
The album includes a number of guests who add a little chat prior to their being featured musically. Hunter Berry adds some fiddle into the mix on "Barefoot Nellie." Gary Wedemeyer does a Briscoe Darling impersonation and sings "Low and Lonely." Comedian Fred E. Smith tells some corn-popping jokes and sings "La-De-Tu-Dum." Bass singer Joe Harr sings the "serious love song" Froggy Went a Courtin'. The 8-minute plus closing track, an interview with Charles Dowell (owner of the Snappy Lunch since 1943) is interesting but its length causes the album to lose some energy at its conclusion. Patsy Stoneman plays autoharp and sings on "My Long Skinny Lanky Sara Jane." She opens her interview with the VW Boys by exclaiming, "You all are full of stuff!" She's got them figured out.
The VW Boys are Tim White (banjo, 5-string dobro, jaw harp, vocals), Dave Vaught (guitar, percussion, vocals) and Larry McPeak (bass, vocals). From Blountville, Tennessee, they formed in 1997 and their main goal appears to make us laugh. Besides being accomplished musicians, they're fun. Their music is bluegrass and folk in long underwear. Like the VW Boys' other albums, they give us a rather unique off-the-cob entertainment experience. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)

Album Description
Inside the Special Pillow is the long-awaited second album by the Special Pillow, a psych-pop magnum opus encompassing winsome melodies, garage-rock crunch, snappy bubblegum hooks, orchestral flourishes, tripped-out ambience, and multi-partite epics. The follow-up to 1997's critically acclaimed Ancient History, Inside the Special Pillow features tracks produced by Michael Deming (of Lilys, Pernice Brother, and Beachwood Sparks fame), in addition to masterful musical moments captured in rehearsal studios, living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms throughout the New York metropolitan area by the band's own Peter Walsh. Contibuting musicians include past and present members of such prestigious indie-rock acts as Hypnolovewheel, Run On, Antietam, Splendora, and Sleepyhead. This pedigreed ensemble has pooled their considerable talents to bring the inimitable songs of Dan Cuddy to glorious fruition.

psychedelic city!!.......2004-10-05
spooky & infectious psychedelic pop with a melancholy edge and one or two full-on, unapologetic freak-outs. a+
Not as brilliant as advertised.......2004-09-19
Although a few of the tunes are compelling, I cannot recommend this. I like psyche (soft, or trippy) and this one doesn't have that special love of fuzzed out guitars and halcyon ambience that the best of this genre offers. It seems a bit too casual and lazy for my tastes. I don't detect a lot of passion on this. Sorry.

A Top-Notch CD - And Not Surprising.......2001-01-08
This is one of the finer offerings from the new breed of "Modern Pop" groups. Why? Because Jigsaw Seen has always defied the strictures of that movement by being unafraid to explore the edges of so-called "pop" music. The Wondermints produce beautiful and even lush-sounding pop. But for a rougher and more realistic world view, try this CD. Zenith tracks run the gamut from the Big Star influenced "Letter to the Editor," the Byrds-Idle Race sounding "Girl on a Red Velvet Swing" all the way to the Hitchcock-like (Alfred, not Robyn) "Fiddlesticks". A true winner from a great band!

A versatile performer and composer. A great album........2005-10-14
Gene Pistilli has been around for a very long time because he has what it takes to survive in the music industry. He simply is a talented musician, performer and composer. Add a great voice and the ability to play various styles of music, and you have Gene Pistilli. Pistilli has written music for Spanky and Our Gang (Sunday Will Never Be the Same), Bette Midler, and country singer Randy Travis. He was an founding member of Manhattan Transfer, and he has worked with many other well-known performers, such as Jim Croce. With "I Still Get Dressed on Sundays", Pistili shows what a great performer he is with his exceptional voice and songwriting. If you like country and country swing, just buy this album. It's great.
Modern western swing with a wink and a smile.......2003-09-19
An amiable set of western swing oldies and fine new originals, written by one of the founding members of the retro-jazz vocals ensemble, Manhattan Transfer. (No -- I'm not kidding!) Pistilli, who's nicknamed himself "The Hoboken Saddletramp," has a real feel for the music, which isn't too surprising -- he's moving from one style of retro swing to another -- and has written several swell new tunes (the title track in particular). There's a certain reserve to this album that makes it less than overpowering, but it's still pretty nice -- fans of The Hot Club Of Cowtown will wanna check this out as well.
