I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

    I bought this CD at Target back in 2004 when it was first released I must say that it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever listened to. The harmonious resonance of Corrinne May's vocals and Kavin Hoo's fantastic piano melodies were simply a divine pairing. These two parts were further joined by additional instrumentations in various other pieces such in "The Winding Path", "On the Wings of an Angel", and "Falling". Of all of the pieces, I believe that "Pilgrim's Journey" and "Sailboat in the Sky" are the most unbelievable and are definitely my favorite.

    As the music opens up on the first track, you realize that you are not listening to an average person sitting behind a piano and hammering a few keys and expecting to sound like an ethereal masterpiece, but Kavin Hoo delivers expertly and mixes other pieces in the mix that have an oriental but not out of place feel to them that adds to measure of the fine craft that he has produced and written here. Above all, I believe that Above the Clouds should be followed up by Compass Productions and Lifescapes with a second CD to challenge Kavin Hoo to meet and perhaps exceed what he has done in "Above the Clouds".

      I bpught this cd for the wondeful sonf, A Love Divine, which i heard sung in a local catholic church by a lone female voice + piano. Beautiful in words and music. She captured the essence of the song. So i thought I'd like to have this wonderful spiritual on cd at home.
      However this version is slightly different tempo than the one I heard at mass, but it goes further. Here the chorus director has so mellowed and slowed the song, to where it just oozes and cralws. This lifelss and boring version is so far from the way the young lady and her accompaning piano player has "divined" this song. Its spiritless chorus like this one that can surely keep more folks away from the churches that as a means to draw the souls in.

      Dave Glasser has paid his dues, having been a member of the Count Basie Band and also a long-time student of "Keeper of the Bebop Flame", Barry Harris. He is now in his prime, has nothing to prove to anyone, and is simply one of the best alto sax players in the world. His taste runs toward the lyrical, and he leaves the "angry-man" playing to other folks. There is not a dissonant note on this album. Instead, having surrounded himself with like-minded players, he has created an incredibly relaxed session which gives the lie to the phrase "they don't play like that any more". The feeling is so free and easy that it reminds me of another of my favorite albums, "At Ease With Coleman Hawkins". If I had to choose a favorite cut, it would have to be "I've Been Working on the Railroad" (no, really). Another thing this album proves is that pianist Larry Ham seriously needs to be discovered. If you dig Ornette Coleman and Cecil Taylor, you wouldn't like this CD. If you think Frank Morgan, Scott Hamilton, and Lester Young are "It", then you won't go wrong.

      I have been a fan of the electronic genre for years, and this album has remained my absolute favorite since the day I purchased it. Even people who'd rather drive sticks through their ears than hear another electronica album will identify with at least one of the songs on this collection. After just purchasing my fifth copy of this album, (The others suffered a great deal of wear and tear due to numerous "trips") every song still completely moves me, despite the record's age. With a variety pack of styles included... the thing that will absolutely amaze you is the consistency of Josh. It could be a smooth ambient or a deeeeeeep house track, yet it still sounds like Wink. { }flawless! If you're reading this and you have no more than a mere glimmer of interest in this album... it's worth it. It's more than worth it.

      Im not a huge fan of techno music, but this is really good! It doesn't really sound computer generated, the tracks have a great urban beat. Some good tracks are "Don't Laugh" "Topfe & Pfannen" and "Hypnotizin'". I use "Warm Wet Sand" to go to sleep at night. Its very relaxing. You have to get it!

        This has to be the all time best club anthem song!

        But the Thunderpuss remix is the best one to dance to.

        Well not many things to say about this CDS. Previous reviewers told almost everything that you need to know: no Thunderpuss mixes on the CDS but i think Jonathan Peters, Sal Dano & Brian K., and even Berman Brothers Radio Mix (best radio mix on the CDS to me) are better. So i'd like to point out some things. The Jonathan Peters Sound Factory Mix sounds more like his CLUB mixes, not like the sound factory ones - i think he named it wrong - it's not hard or anything but with great intro (check out Debelah Morgan - Dance With Me Jonathan Peters Club Mix). The second thing that doesn't match in my opinion is the Jonathan Peters Velvet Mix - now thats not a mix but a DUB - and more like a Sound Factory Dub to me (almost no vocals and is really a fast hard track). The CDS is really worth buying even after so many years. I love it. If u still didn't buy the CDS buy it used. You won't be sorry.

        This is one of the best songs from Amber. This is a must have for any body who is an Amber fan or any body who loves good dance music!

        After releasing such mega dance hits as "This Is Your Night", "One More Night", "If You Could Read My Mind" (From the "54" soundtrack), and "Sexual", she returns with another infectious dance hit, "Above The Clouds". "Above The Clouds" is about a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship that has experienced and endured pain and doubts along the way. Amber sings about the "arguments", "heartaches", "tears" and "pain" in this relationship. She sings about them doubting whether this relationship would last and whether it was worth it to enter the relationship in the first place. The answer is a resounding "yes"! Since they stuck together through it all and continued to love each other, the "storm" has finally ended. And now, the couple is "flying above the clouds" and they can see "happiness" and clarity from up there. Ahhh, the power of love.

        Amber colors the song with vocals that oscillate between tenderness and power throughout the song. She really knows how to use her voice to express feelings such as sadness (in describing the troubled relationship), and feelings such as happiness and elation (when the relationship survives). The Original Mix (Track #1) borrows the same rhythmic beat from the remix to Deborah Cox's "Things Just Ain't The Same". Jonathan Peters' contributions to this cd single (Tracks #2, 5, & 7) are probably the best remixes on this cd single with Track #2 being the best one. Track #5 is an extended version of Track #2 while Track #7 is a fast and furious house music version of this song. Sal Dano and Brian K's Hard Dub (Track #8) deserves mention too as they combine electronic beats and string-like arrangements in their instrumental remix. Together, tracks #2, 5, 7, and 8 will definitely get you dancing on the floor.
