So Far So Good offers up 13 of his previous hits plus a new song, "Please Forgive Me," a gooey, Michael Bolton-like ballad. The album starts out with "Summer of '69," the appealing autobiographical song about the 10-year-old Adams learning to play his first guitar in Ontario, and includes "(Everything I Do) I Do for You," the synth-laced ballad that wound up in the Guinness Book of World Records after topping the British singles charts for 16 weeks. With its over-the-top, gravelly vocals, So Far So Good reminds one of Rod Stewart's 1980s work when he was coasting on past achievements. Unfortunately, Adams has never had a period like Stewart's glory years in the '70s. --Geoffrey Himes

Bryan Adams - So Far So Good.......2007-07-03
The quintessential Bryan Adams album. His music, his voice, his style. Like Sting and Rod Stewart, what makes him unique is that voice - but his music is this! This album.
Canada can rock.......2007-05-25
This is a good Bryan Adams compilation and will please any fan. It's got his good rock stuff from the 80s. You know, strong vocals and a strong guitar. Definitely rock, but not heavy metal. Good music to have on the car radio as you're cruising along. The ballads he did back then, which are on here too, were good. Bryan's later stuff doesn't measure up. This is the heart of his music.
Gravel-Voiced Canadian's Best.......2007-03-20
I'm sure that the '05 release, "Anthology," covers more of his career, but for folks like myself who enjoyed Bryan Adams' career in the 80's and early 90's, "So Far, So Good" is probably the best compilation out there. Adams takes a lot of heat for his music and, frankly, I don't understand why. He's a very talented musician as his multiple hit songs can attest to, so I see very little room for major criticism. If you don't like him, don't listen to him.
I like him and have to say that this disc is one of my favorites when I want to remember the good ol' days. The disc starts off with "Summer of '69" and then rolls right into "Straight From The Heart." From there we are treated to a nice helping of Adams' best rockers and ballads. Personal favorites include "Cuts Like A Knife," "Run To You," "Can't Stop This Thing We Started" and "Heaven. It also has "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," which many consider the beginning of the end for Adams. He went on to release a few other soundtrack tunes and moderately popular hits like "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me (Is You)" after the release of this hits compilation and they are included on the later "Best Of Me." Hardcore fans may want to pick up that title or the aforemetioned "Anthology."
For those of us who only want the bulk of Adams' biggest tunes, stick with "So Far, So Good." It won't let you down.
A 'How To' On Writing Great Songs.......2007-02-12
Let the critics say what they want,Bryan Adams knows how to write a great hook filled song! This CD is one of the few in my vast collection that I give a perfect '5' star rating to and it earns every star
I'm a metal head,I grew up on Dio,Motley Crue,Poison,Kiss etc.. so why am I raving about Bryan Adams? Because he's that good.
If you look music of any kind from heavy to country to romantic ballads, any kind of music you will find something you can love in his music,it's timeless and his voice is never going to be considered the best of the best but that's okay because it fits this music perfectly,he sounds like the every day guy next door that lives and breathes these experiences
The CD starts off with 'Summer Of '69' which is just about the ultimate driving song ever written (the only competition is Don Henley's 'Boys of summer),it is perfect and I'm sure makes just about everyone out there remember their own favorite summer, from there it goes to 'Straight From The Heart' a beautiful love song, from there is one of my personal favs,"It's Only Love" a duet with himself and Tina Turner, this song rocks,it really overflows with feeling and fun, from there the only song on the CD that I feel was overplayed 'Can't Stop This Thing We Started' it is a great song but the radio over played it (it's not Bryan's fault his songwriting is so good that radio over did it),then another beautiful love song 'Do I have To Say The Words' and this and every ballad has a different feel and emotion which is rare in this musical climate, after that is 'This Time' which is about as much fun you can have with a song and still be legal, then 'Run To You' which has atmosphere and such emotion in the lyrics that you just know he (or someone he knows) has lived through that experience...then my favorite Bryan Adams ballad 'HEaven' which they used to play at my middle school dances so it will live forever in a special place in my heart, and then 'Cuts Like A Knife' which was one of the very first videos I ever saw on MTV,they played it a lot but it never got old, great song and still sounds as fresh today as when it first came out, then 'Everything I do,I do it for you' another beautiful ballad with a beautiful message, personally I always think of Robin Hood the movie when I hear this song (the arrow going into the tree is a visual that will forever go with this song),another great fun rocking song follows 'Somebody' and then right into 'Kids Wanna Rock' it's almost impossible to not smile when you hear these songs, and it's followed with a true gem 'Heat Of The Night' which is the absolute perfect atmosphere song (right alongside 'Def Leppard's "foolin")...my only criticism of this perfect CD is why would they choose to end such a fun CD with a ballad...'Please Forgive Me' is a beautiful song but should have been in the middle, they should have ended it with 'Heat Of The Night' let it end on a rocking note..but that aside this is what rock and roll and songwriting in general should be....it should be noted that Bryan has released a few other greatest hits packages over the years but don't be fooled this is the best of the best, his next attempt 'The Best Of Me' is very weighted down with ballads and almost ignores his rocking side...this is a perfectly balanced CD that will appeal to any fan of fun rock and roll
The Upside - This is how to write songs...Bryan is an expert...and it is also proof of why producers are so important to an artist,Mutt Lange is a genius (as his track record proves) the songs sound perfect, warm and yet crisp..there are no show off moments, just great singing and musicians that above all highlight the songwriting, what can I say other then perfection
The Downside - There is none
The Bottom Line - If you are a songwriter,or want to be,buy this CD to learn how it should be done...This CD is everything that is missing in almost all modern music and it can be summed up in one 3 letter word - FUN! This CD is fun ....run out to buy this, especially at this price, donutman says so!!!

Hook in Mouth!.......2007-07-11
The album between the two Megadeth's biggest classics "Peace Sells..." and "Rust in Peace" can't be that bad...or can it? Well, at least the intro is quite good and "Set the World Afire" is one of their heaviest songs..."No survivors...set the world afire..."...one of their best songs at least lyrically. "Anarchy in UK" is the cover from Sex Pistols. I like Megadeth's version more...maybe because I like more Dave Mustaine's voice. "Mary Jane" and "In My Darkest Hour" are both quite sad songs lyrically and musically. "In My Darkest Hour" is a popular live track too. "Mary Jane" was released as a single like "Anarchy in UK" was too. "502" and "Liar" are quite fast songs too. "Hook in Mouth" is my favourite..it has the lyrics against the goverment and it is kinda rebellious and violent. "F is for fighting, R is for red..." FREEDOM is an important thing and there's never too many songs about it. I would say that ideas of the songs are excellent and the quality is awesome! Megadeth rocks!

Outstanding effort from Megadeth........2007-03-30
So Far, So Good...So What! has been drastically improved upon since the original had a slightly dissapointing low production, on this re-mastered version the sound quality is very high. Anyway this album is considered a dissapointing followup to Peace Sells among Megadeth fans which I personaly don't understand since this album was excellent and quite good with great aggresive and highly thrashing songs I don't see why anyone would be upset with this. This is still a definitive album from Megadeth, the lineup was changed for some reason it seemed like guitarist Chris Polland and drummer Gar Samuelson were both fired and replaced by Jeff Young and Chuck Behler and it also seemed like Mustain was going through alot of drug problems that effected the writting of this album especially with the silly lyrics for 502 even though it wasn't really a bad song. There are very few flaws in this album but I still consider this to be an underrated masterpiece the album starts of with the brilliant instrumental song Into the lungs of hell with a loud explosion sound effect then the song Set the world afire which is a technicaly fast and speedy track and is one of my favorites, its the first song Dave Mustain wrote after he was kicked out of Metallica. Anarchy in the U.K. is the only bad song on this album and the one that I thought was a dissapointing cover of the original done by The Sex Pistols, it almost ruins the flow and continuity of the album then theres the song called Mary Jane which has a very nice melody to it and the riffs were terrific its very catchy and you would probably know what this songs about from the title.
502 wasn't so bad except for the silly lyrics about a high speed chase with a bunch of cops but the following song In my darkest hour is probably the highlight of this album and is one of the greatest Megadeth songs ever, a song inspired by the tragic death of his friend and fellow Metallica bandmate Cliff Burton and presented here with an improved accoustic intro I would describe this song as a ballad that increases with speed and then becomes more intense towards the end which is amazing then theres the song called Liar another good track which seems to be an attack towards a former member of Megadeth (I think its maybe towards Chris Poland I'm not so sure). The closing song Hook in mouth was an incendiary assualt on the PMRC at the time and an overall attack on censorship in the media, but then again who cares since its a great thrash song. If you ask any Megadeth fan and they will tell that this album has some of the best songs Megadeth ever recorded despite all of the problems Dave was going through you he still managed to pull of this great masterpiece of thrash metal, you cannot call yourself a true Megadeth fan without owning this album.
So Far...So Good.......2007-03-26
So Far So good, but not their best, Being 8 tracks long this album still spawned classic megadeth tracks such as Set the world afire and in my darkest hour. The former being Mustaine's first composition after leaving metallica, was done with the intent of being faster and harder than his former band could achieve, and also gave rise to the band's name. The opening track (into the lungs of hell) is also killer, and is fashioned after the poem 'the charge of the light brigade' which is work based on St. Michael's offensive on hell after lucifer's exile from heaven. Other notable tracks include Mary Jane, Anarchy in The UK (a sex pistols cover), and Hook In Mouth which is a catchy tune aimed at music censorship.
Not as good as the origional........2007-03-08
So Far, So Good...So What! (in it's origional form) used to conjure feeling. The remastered edition sounds like a group of studio musicians tried to remake the album and just didn't quite hit the nail on the head. If you bought this album on cassette when it came out in the late 80s, get your hands on that version.
An inconsistent album that contains some Megadeth classics. But it's only half a great album........2006-10-08
This album has split fans for nearly 20 years. There are some out there that claim this as their favourite Megadeth release. Then there are those that see it as a blemish on the band's record, a separator between two undoubtedly classic albums in "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?" and "Rust in Peace". So where do I stand? I'm going to be ultra boring and sit on the fence.
While "So Far So Good...So What?" in my opinion is not as good as either of the other two aforementioned albums, it certainly has some value for any thrash fan. The problem with the album is a lack of consistency. Things start out tremendously promising with the instrumental "Into the Lungs of Hell" kicking things off in fine style. Straight away, it's obvious that the musicianship is still of the highest quality even if the production is slightly lacking. "Set the World Afire" continues the good work, its shredding riffs making up for rather pedestrian drumming by newcomer Chuck Behler.
But here's where the problem starts. Just as on the previous two albums, the band recorded a cover version of a celebrated track. I really do feel that in each case ("These Boots" may be an exception but only just) the cover songs are the tracks that I dislike the most on each release. This time around, Megadeth recorded a version of the Sex Pistols "Anarchy in the UK". It's completely out of place and in particular as track 3 on the album. Some fans claim to like this cover but most criticise its existence in general, its punk attitude not sitting well alongside some of the more sophisticated tracks.
Yet the inconsistencies don't end there. "Mary Jane" is another brilliant track with it's ballad like qualities and fantastic lead guitar making it one of the highlights of the album. But then it's followed by the truly atrocious "502" which once again stalls the flow of the album. I'm sure the guys thought it was funny writing this track based on speeding in cars and avoiding the cops, but its silliness wears thin awfully quickly and I find it very hard to enjoy these days. And so the album runs on with a few great moments broken up by bad decisions and a few cringe-worthy songs.
I don't hate "So Far So Good...So What?" as a whole, but I do find it really difficult to enjoy about half of it. Whereas the album before it and even more so the one after it are filled to the brim with talent and quality, this one ends up being comparatively average.

The picture.......2006-12-11
I haven't purchased the CD but the picture of the inside of a church on the cover is not of a British church, like one would assume since it says its a recording of British choirs. This picture is of Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Just thought i'd let you know. I'll be honest; I'm one to judge things by it's cover and if the company took such care to choose a 'British' church for their British choir CD, I'm willing to bet the music is equally well selected... I'm being sarcastic. But I gave the product 5 stars because I didn't want to hurt its ratings just because i'm cynical. But check out the church if you're ever in Montreal, it's truly beautiful... here I'm not being sarcastic.

Asronishing talent.......2007-03-23
My wife and I just caught Paul Thorn live (solo acoustic) opening for David Bromberg and The Angel Band (featuring David and his quartet backing up his wife's amazing a capella trio). Amazing, astonishing, inventive, and utterly charming. His songs are great - his stories even better. I was grinning like a fool through the entire performance and had a brief but thoroughly enjoyable chat with him during the set break. I listened to the CD on the drive dome and his sound with the band is quite different but every bit as enjoyable.
If you have a chance to see this man perform live - do it. In the mean time, if you enjoy great storytelling, strong southern blues, and rocking guitar work, pick up this DVD/CD. It's a great value and will be an often played addition to your library.
Worth it for the DVD alone. .......2007-02-06
I discovered Paul Thorn by accident in the fall of 2005 when he was opening for Huey Lewis. I have since acquired every bit of his music I can lay my hands on, and have seen him live once. The DVD gives a flavor of his live performances by including some of his many stories...it seems each song has a story.
Paul Thorn is an amazingly talented and versatile songwriter. He can make you laugh with songs like "Burn Down the Trailer Park" and "Viagra", then turn around and make you cry with "I Have a Good Day" and "Things Left Undone". Besides his skill with lyrics, the music is sometimes bluesy, sometimes country, sometimes rock. He can't really be categorized.
The CD contains many of his standards. If you have not been introduced to Paul Thorn, this combo set is an excellent place to start. You will find yourself checking his schedule on his website for an opportunity to see him live.
Too good to be true, but it is...........2006-11-04
Paul and the band give you a dose of what's in store for you if you ever get the chance to catch 'em live.A great mix of story-telling, humor, pathos and musicianship all wrapped up in one roaring good time. If you can watch this without laughing out loud, tapping your feet, and just plain, old feeling good, you've got a hole in your soul. So watch it twice and let Paul work his magic. You won't be disappointed....
Live is the best.......2006-09-07
This is really a DVD with a bonus CD. If you have never seen Paul in concert this is a must have set, if you have seen him you will want to add this to your collection. This was recorded in Atlanta and I found the DVD is to be a good substitute for being there. I have been enjoying Paul's work for a while now and this is the best offering of his yet.
A Special Performer.......2006-09-04
Paul Thorn is a man of many hats; a talented musician, singer, songwriter, stand-up comic & "inspirational leader" (oh, and a former boxer). Thorn and his talented band cruise through a fun set of bluesy rock, interjected by his good-spirited, often self-deprecating humor. Guitarist Bill Hinds proves equally adept at blistering blues-rock ("Heart With 4 Wheel Drive"), feather-light slide guitar a la Lee Roy Parnell ("Every Little Bit Hurts") and everything in between. Keyboardist Michael "Dr. Love" Graham adds a somber organ to the latter tune, & propels the energetic stomper "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand" with his rock'n'roll piano. The band lays down a wickedly funky groove on the deliriously silly "Ain't Love Strange", while the bouncy "Lover's Vacation" coasts along with carefree abandon.
A reocurring theme in Thorn's songwriting is, not surprisingly, the idea of continually getting back up after being knocked down, and the hope of better things ahead ("I'd Rather Be A Hammer Than A Nail", "Rise Up", "I Have A Good Day", "There's Something Out There"), which may further explain his charismatic appeal. He is a champion of the underdog who can relate to his audience, while not taking himself too seriously.
Don't make the mistake of thinking Thorn is simply a novelty act. He's an original artist who deserves to be discovered. And at this price, this CD/DVD package is a bargain.

Bernadette Peters Loves Rodgers & Hammerstein ... and if they could hear this collection, they would love her right back. The curly-haired, honey-voiced Tony-winning star has been more closely associated throughout her career with Stephen Sondheim and Jerry Herman, but she's perfectly suited to the grand waltzes and introspective moments of the R&H canon. "If I Loved You," "It Might As Well Be Spring," and "Something Wonderful" would probably make anyone's wish list for this combination of star and songs (a list that would also last much longer than 46 minutes). Other welcome selections include "Some Enchanted Evening," "Out of My Dreams," the little-known "I Haven't Got a Worry in the World" (from the play Happy Birthday), and the inside joke of "There Is Nothing Like a Dame," all supported by the baton and orchestrations of Sondheim favorite Jonathan Tunick. This is a warm valentine to the beloved songwriting team. --David Horiuchi

A Great Recording by A Great Artist........2004-10-14
I totally disagree with the previous negative reviews of this cd. What were they listening to anyway? Certainly not this recording. First,Bernadette Peters is THE greatest Broadway musical performer of our time. I rate her right up there with Merman,Martin,Verdon, and Channing. She has a beautiful and distinctive voice, and her acting ability shines through every song. One reviewer said that these songs were originally written for large, operatic voices. What??? With the exception of Pinza, this is simply not true. When I have heard opera singers perform R&H songs,it just doesn't work. Too big. Actually,Bernadette suits these songs perfectly. Her somewhat softer voice gives a new dimension and insight to the grand old standards. I will give special praise for her performance of the songs: IF I LOVED YOU, OUT OF MY DREAMS, SOMETHING WONDERFUL, and SOME ENCHANTED EVENING. And extra special praise for SOMETHING GOOD. She brings life and passion to this song;I have never heard it performed better. I was greatly moved by it. If you love Rodgers & Hammerstein and if you love Bernadette Peters, BUY THIS ALBUM! You will love it.
To the critics of "BP Loves RH"..........2004-04-17
I would ask detractors of this CD to consider the dates and location when and where this album was recorded: Sept 19, 21 and 24, 2001 at the Record Plant(sic)in NYC. Get it yet?
What if you were BP and Tunick, professionals as you are, recording a RH album for Angel eight days after 9/11? Would you be at your best? And singing "well worn, sentimental" RH songs recalling a time when NYC was the Great Big Apple of the World. Wouldn't a lump be in your throat? Listen to "It Might as Well Be Spring" again. Does it sound cheerful and relaxed? Or a little sad?
My friends, this is BP's 9/11 tribute to a City that has treated her like royalty. With Dame and Dope being the only exceptions, perhaps Tunick's otherwise subdued orchestrations reflect the mood of the day and of the performers and engineers present at the studio. This is why I heartily recommend this recording to BP fans. I didn't get it either until I read the stats.
Not Totally Awful, but She is Much Better than This.......2003-11-21
Bernadette Peters is a legend; one of the few true Broadway musical legends still performing today; and that's why it pains me to say that her latest album is also her weakest work.
While her beautiful voice is still intact and capable of being as gorgeous as ever, she just doesn't seem to breath life into any of these songs. Even "Some Enchanted Evening" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" -- two songs that beg for emotion -- don't even get near the credit they deserve. And during some of the tunes, her voice seems to almost crack, although it never quite does.
I don't want to sound mean here. I love Bernadette Peters; but I also know she is much better than this album. Want proof? Purchase the cast recording of Gypsy :)
Her masterful concert for PBS was done just a couple years earlier. It's almost hard to believe this is the same energetic and spunky singer.
It's a grand night for singing? One wouldn't think so by listening to this.
Am I missing something?.......2002-12-31
I received my copy of this CD the day after watching an American Masters bio of Richard Rogers, and I was psyched. I love Bernadette Peters and I adore Rogers & Hammerstein - but I was sorely disappointed in this album. All the way through it I kept having the feeling they had to wake Ms. Peters up between cuts. Even songs like "It's a Grand Night for Singing" had about as much spark as a wet match. The arrangements just did not do justice to either Ms. Peters or Rogers and Hammerstein.
I feel like a traitor, but I just cannot recommend this CD.
The Fabulous Miss B Does It Again!!!.......2002-11-21
Not that I ever, EVER doubted it, but this album just reaffirms in my mind that Bernadette Peters can do ANYTHING! Every single song is gorgeous. Each note sung with extraordinary passion. And she has colored each lyric with layers and layers of meaning and subtext, a skill that has led to her being known as the foremost interpreter of the works of Stephen Sondehim.
Not that there's not some fun in there, too. "The Gentleman is a Dope" and her version of "There Is Nothin' Like a Dame" (she is the first female to record this, I might add!) are great examples of how she is able to bring her wonderful comic abilities into the music of perhaps the greatest team of composers ever.
Her renditions of songs like "Something Good", "Some Enchanted Evening" and "If I Loved You" are enough to make you believe in love all over again. Then, you have the playful "Mister Snow", which seems like it was written just for Bernadette, and "You'll Never Walk Alone", which still sends chills up my spine every time I hear it.
But let's not forget the fabulous opening tune "It's A Grand Night for Singing", her beautiful version of "It Might As Well Be Spring", the light and lovely "Out Of My Dreams", the extremely enjoyable "So Far", a terrific interpretation of the classic "Something Wonderful" and the carefree "I Haven't Got A Worry in the World".
Each and every one of these tunes is a treasure. This is a wonderful mixture of some well-known and some more obscure Rodgers and Hammerstein melodies... a mixture which is only made better by Bernadette's extraordinary ability to interpret a song- a skill that has helped to make her the Broadway legend she is. It is a must for not only musical theatre fans, not only R&H fans, not only fans of Bernadette, but anyone who is looking for something that's really worth listening to!

Quite possibly the most underrated Thrash album of all time!.......2006-11-11
How come this album gets as much crap as it does? What's with you people giving this thing less than 5 stars? This album is a thrash landmark! It has really fast songs like "Into the Lungs of Hell" and "Set the World Afire." Then it also has the excellent songs like, "In My Darkest Hour," "Mary Jane," and "Hook In Mouth." Hell, all of the songs on this album are great! They are fast and aggressive! Jeff young is a highly underrated guitarist. He does some rip-roaring shredding in this album! Dave Mustaine sounds like he's angry in this album and that's also what makes it great. This is pure thrash agression and the most underrated thrash album of all time! As for you people who are giving this album [...], you are missing out on a masterpiece of work. Get this album now! You won't be disappointed!
great album.......2005-11-27
Classic metal. Yes I know there's a lot of reverb. Though I wouldn't want every cd that way, I think it sounds good on this one. This record came out in the winter and the reverb really goes well with the snow and cold! I'll take this anyday over the remaster.
Not 'peace sells' but not much is........2005-07-18
This album isnt a 'turkey' as the clearly illiterate guy below me states, it's still a worthy megadeth album. I agree with him that metallica's AJFA is better however. Its not a 'peace sells' or RIP, but its still got some great songs on it. I still for the life of me cant decide whether to take Dave's cover of anarchy in the Uk seriously or not. Sometimes it sounds good, others it sounds like a bit of a joke. Can anyone with some more background on Megadeth tell me if this is supposed to be taken seriously? Anyway, not a classic, but a must have if your a fan.
This album is a turkey.......2005-06-23
Only two good songs: Hook in Mouth & In My Darkest Hour. '...And Justice for All' and 'South of Heaven' crap all over this.
My Review For...So Far, So Good...So What!.......2005-06-05
This album came out in the same year as ...And Justice For All. Its pretty hard to determine which one is better. I may say ...And Justice For All in that other review but it really just depends on the mood. But if anything, this album kicks ass. I first listened to this with a family member and I noticed the cursing so of course I took out my portable CD player. It was in the middle of Into The Lungs Of Hell and I cant say that I listened to it much after that one time. Set The World Afire is track 2. I really love the raw sense in it. Truely all metal in 80s' was raw. Arnarchy in the U.K. is there sorta tribute to punk. The only thing I dont get about this song is that it says U.K. but its really U.S.A. in the song. Well we know which is better anyway. \m/ (*^*) \m/ Mary Jane is a cool song. Not many people like it. I dont see how. Cool sound. 502 is a road song. When a car tries to pass me on the road, I always speed up hoping another car will come. lol. This song encourages me to do it over and over again. In My Darkest Hour is the highlight of the album. A sorta ballad you might say. Dave at his best in writing lyrics. Ellefson helped though. Liar is one of my favorites in Megadeth song history. Its great. The ending is great with all the cursing and solo. Hook in Mouth is great also. Song about the P.M.R.C. I dont undertand why dave would write a song about it but its a classic. I would give this album 10/10. I really enjoyed it and its good to have on the shelf. I bet it would look great on yours too. Highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Genius, pure and simple!.......2005-08-19
I heard of James Morrison years ago in the pages of Downbeat mag. The picture showed this guy surrrounded by about 7 or 8 diffferent horns. I'm thinking "I'd be impressed if this guy could play one of those horns well". Mr. Morrison hails from Down Under, so his recorded work until recently wasn't available stateside. After listening to this retrospective of all of his CD's, I can tell you right now my jaw hit the floor as I was listening to his work! On several cuts, you'll hear a very tight, hard-swinging big band. When you read the liner notes, you'll learn Morrison plays all the trumpets, trombones, and saxes and piano as well! On other cuts, he plays only the saxophone, or just a euphonium. But his main axe is the trumpet and he blows the hell out of that! He plays a number "Scream Machine" that is a tribute to "Chase" in that he overdubs 5 trumpets that as the title implies....SCREAMS! But Morrison isn't just a technician with great chops. He swings like crazy, and his improvisations cover the history of jazz trumpeters, from Satchmo, to CT, to Dizzy and Miles. I've also listened to the entire CD "Scream machine" and that was also a great purchase for all the reasons given above. People fawn all over Wynton, Nick Payton, Roy Hargrove, and some of the other "Young Lions".....none of them have ANYTHING over James Morrison!! In fact, because he encompasses so many styles and appproaches so damn well, I'd say he is the one to be watching. Get this CD and be floored, and then pray that some American record company wakes up and gets this guy over here on another label besides an import!

A Comic-Opera Treasure!.......2007-01-28
Dittersdorf is a sort of working-man's Mozart; in fact, this opera sounds similar to some of Mozart's early operas. But Mozart sought to break the rules and to explore new musical ideas; Dittersdorf is not an innovator...yet he is no less a master! This performance, too, is a materpiece of refined (not always!) comedy; the arias include some extremely difficult vocal leaps and trills, yet the primary joy is the witty verse. W.H. Auden (no less!) ramrodded this translation to English. And Anna Russell, famed for her "Analysis of Wagner's Ring Cycle" steals every scene she's in! Ad-libbing shamelessly, her introductory aria, all by itself, is worth more than the purchase price!
an obscure delight!.......2002-07-31
Eleanor Steber's image on the cover of this set caught my eye while rummaging through the cut-out bins of San Francisco on a recent opera whirlwind. What a lost treasure this performance is - recorded "LIVE" in NYC 1965! All the principles shine, their energy ebullient. Don't hesitate, buy it and smile before it disappears.

Customer Reviews:
A nice package of DeGiorgio's work.......2004-01-18
This is a great double CD rounding up the best of Kirk DeGiorgio's material under his 'AS ONE' monikor. Featuring his earliest material right up to some from his latest album, 'So Far...(So Good)' should be a part of any electronic music fans collection.
Along with Carl Craig, Kirk DeGiorgio is probably the most respected artist in modern electronic music. His work just spells class. Even if the song is based around a pounding beat, you know eventually that his trademark, soothing strings will surround the song. That doesn't mean he isn't innovative, by no means, that's the whole point, he is one of the most innovative artists out there. Electronic Soul are the right words to desribe his music. Soul is a hard thing to get into an electronic music song, but DeGiorgio manages it with ease.
Most of his songs on here have a jazzy feel to them. It is rare for an artist to so well combine the different styles of electronic music and jazz together. Many have tried, most have failed. Though Jonah Sharp (Spacetime Continuum) is a notable exception, along with some of Ian O'Brien's work.
But DeGiorgio just seems to excel at it. Songs here that stand out are the pulsing electronica that is 'Amalia', the crushing, jazz-infused 'Theme From Op-Art', the ambience that is 'Hyeres' and the tough electronic-jazz track 'Queen Constance'.
