Listen with your ears..........2006-06-22

I have to laugh when music reviewers critique a bands "new look" instead of their music. And I have to laugh when the hardcore fans of any band say a band, "sold-out", simply because they refuse to make the same album over and over. The people who trash this album because of the title and the new "look" are NOT listening to the album.

This is a true Styper album through and through. Killer guitar crunch, guitar harmonies, vocal harmonies, and Christian lyrics are all here. Stryper was never preachy in their lyrics and I appreciated that. The Christian lyrics are certainly throughout this entire album. I'm not sure what other reviewers are talking about when they said, "this is Styper's secular album", which is totally ridiculous. I'm not a Christian but have always been an admirer of sheer talent and these boys have boat loads of talent. Christian lyrics or not - this album contains some fantastic songs and growth as writers and musicians. It appears some fans want the band to remake the same album over and over. If you want that, pick-up an AC/DC album.

The song writing has evolved but still has the aggressiveness they were known for. And as a guitarist, Oz Foxx simply shreds and the band wails in typical rock n' roll form (Not That Kind of Guy is reminscent of Hot for Teacher). Oz even got a huge compliment from the master Steve Vai for his guitar work on this album. People, quit listening with your eyes and listen with your ears! This album isn't perfect but it's better than anything that was released in the early grunge 90's nightmare. Long live Stryper...

ONE OF STRYERS BEST!!!.......2005-11-27

What's this....two of the guys have beards. They have a producer who has worked with top rock acts like Dokken and Kix. They have a song called Against The Law. This from a band who is Christian Rock/Metals #1 selling artist at the time with videos on MTV that reached millions of people that would not otherwise listen to "Christian Rock". This from a band that toured with rock bands such as White Lion,Jetboy,Hurricane,Loudness and many more. Oh yeah, they headlined the tours by the way. Something must be wrong here as most Stryper fans seem to dislike this album since it is not straight forward as the others were in being a Christian album. This album got overlooked and the record company went bankrupt as well. My opinion of this album....

It's one of the best Stryper albums ever put out!! The album has a nice punch and a somewhat rough BIG sound that the producer helped the band achieve. Roberts drums sound better here than they ever have. Guitars are also loud and Michaels vocals shine on this one as well. You have a great opening song(Against The Law). You have a cover song(Shining Star), rockers, ballads and plenty of positive lyrics. As for a straight forward song that shows these guys did not shy from their roots listen to "Rock The Hell Out Of You". The band also shows more of a creative side with their songwritting. Relationships(Two Bodies),being faithful(Two Time Woman), peace in the world(All For One) and decision making(Caught In The Middle).

Don't judge a book by it's cover and rumors you might have heard. This is a great rock album with positive lyrics. Like most fans I started with To Hell With The Devil and then bought the older releases. These are all good albums. Against The Law is the bands way of having some fun playing music they like. I think they needed this "break". Im sure most wanted a sequel to In God We Trust. This album should have been a big success and it is the one I listen to most from the band today.

Highlights are "Against The Law", "Two Time Woman", "Shining Star"

This is the 1st Stryper cd i bought and i liked it a lot: ****1/2.......2005-10-22

Well, What drew me to checking out this Stryper cd first instead of any of the ones before or after it is the fact that i heard it was the hardest cd that Stryper ever put out. And i also was drawn to it because i heard it was more aggressive than the others. I also heard a lot of bad things about this cd [Mostly from fellow christians saying that this is where Stryper sold out and went secular]. Well, From listening to this cd, I concluded three things: 1.) This cd is nowhere near as bad as its reputation suggests. 2.) Stryper does rock and i can only imagine what they're cds [The ones that have their christianity in tact] sound like. 3.) I will definitely be buying more Stryper cds in the near future! Back to my review of this cd:
It's true, Stryper's christianity is lacking on this cd [Except for maybe the final track, ''Rock the hell out of you''], But, all's still well. It's still good clean fun old school heavy metal. There is plenty of good guitar work to find on this album and Michael Sweet does a good job on the vocals. Even though i'm now a christian, The fact that this is basically a secular attempt by a christian heavy metal band doesn't really bother me that much [Well, I'll be honest, I do wish they had just a few songs on here that dealt with god in some kind of way]. The best songs on here are The ''Shining star'' cover [The best song on here and they amazingly flipped this 70s song into a heavy metal song], ''Lady'' [A great, memorable ballad], ''Rock the hell out of you'', ''Caught in the middle'', and ''Two time woman''. I'd definitely reccomend this cd to any rock fan [Christian or not]. Though these guys are a christian band, I'm not upset at the fact they took a little change of pace on this album. They were being honest about it. They chose to let out the fact that they wanted to do something a little different. But don't fear, Christians, Stryper is back now and they're doing christian metal again and they have a new album, Called ''Reborn''. Before you believe the negative things said about this album, Give it a try first. It doesn't cost much and i'd say it's definitely worth owning. Definitely underrated!

AWESOME ALBUM.......2005-09-18

St. Francis of Assisi once said, "Go out and preach the gospel ... if you must, use words."
Stryper took that to heart in their most brutally honest album to date.
Against the Law is a strict departure from previous albums. First and foremost, they got rid of the yellow and black spandex, and got the perms out of their hair.
Even better, their music and lyrics got so much better.
While many Christians will call the previous sentence blasphemous, they forget honesty works better than shallowness--which was the case in their previous album.
This is an honest album. This is a musical album. This is an angry album.
It starts off with the title track, "Against the Law" which shouts back at the judgmental attitude so many Evangelicals have put upon them:
I tried it your way/Was that good enough?/You got to point your finger/You think you know it all/I want you to remember/I don't live for you 'cause I'm against your law
Sure, it's a modern summary of Galatians, but it's true.
Frankly, though, that is why this album is better. True, all spiritual overtones are gone--but it is good, clean rock'n'roll.
The songs reveal their own struggles against bad relationships (Two-Time Woman), sexual temptation (Not That Kind of Guy), and marriage (Two Bodies One Mind One Soul). The best one was Lady, their best ballad that proved they could write a simple love song (it would have been a Top-Ten Single if Enigma would have promoted it before its bankruptcy).
So, if you want good rock music without being preached at, get it. If you want something spiritually edifying, buy a Petra album.
And for all those Christians who believed they sold out and started sinning, find me the Scripture that proves it.

second to the worst stryper cd.......2005-08-26

this is a far cry different than the stryper of old this cd lacks the magic of their last works of art. songs lack depth. this wasnt my favorite stryper cd. i rank this & reborn as their worst cd's.

One of my TOP-10.......2007-02-06

Being 100% BRIDE FAN, i used to consider Stryper like a "dangerous" Band, due to their identity`s change. 11 years ago, a friend handed me a copy in cassette of Against the Law, and just listened to it once. But i opened my mind to Stryper with the song "Always There For You", which caught me in the first moment i listened to it. So, i got some Stryper albums and they sounded well. But AGAINST THE LAW is just something different!

My favorite ones are: Two time woman, Rock the people, Not that kinda guy (maybe my favorite one. The drums are very busy and the guitar solo is terrific!!!), Shining Star (maybe my favorite one also, the bass is GREAT. Well, is not Tim Gaines on it), All For One (very encouraging song) and Rock the Hell our of You (great end for the album). As you can see, a lot of favorites ones. The other ones are 4 stars, like Lady or Against the Law.

Now, "Always there for you" is still my favorite Stryper song. And Bride my favorite band. There is no doubt about it. But this is a great great album. Rock lovers, this is a must have!!!
