The Pretenders Third Album Is Finally Remastered!.......2007-06-19
Released in 1983, The Pretenders third album included several new band members in Robbie McIntosh who replaced James Honeyman Scott (who died from a drug overdose) on lead guitar and Malcolm Foster who replaced Pete Farndon (who was fired because of personal and drug problems) on bass. While The Pretenders debut album (simply titled The Pretenders) will always be my personal favorite, "Learning To Crawl" is a close second (along with The Pretenders II album). The album produced the hits "Back On The Chain Gang", "Middle Of The Road", "Show Me", "2000 Miles", "Thin Line Bewtween Love And Hate" and "Fast Or Slow" ("The Law's The Law") (this bonus track was released as a single and was the b-side of "2000 Miles" and sung by drummer Martin Chambers). The album wasn't as punk influenced as their debut but was more pop rock and the band seemed more mature. This newly remastered edition of "Learning To Crawl" includes seven excellent bonus tracks which are a nice addition to an already superb album. The only downside is that the cd inside the cardboard mini album replica has no inner sleeve to prevent it from scuffing and scratching. It just slips into one of the two the cardboard sleeves and that's it. Why Warner Brothers Records couldn't have included a paper inner sleeve for the cd is beyond me. My disc was scuffed badly and I returned it to the place of purchase and got my money back. Warner Brothers Records (Rhino) really needs to improve it's quality control. Sound quality wise the remastering is excellent with increased bass and midrange and output level. Highly Recommended!
I've got a smile, for everyone I meet.......2007-06-16
Many will disagree with me, but for me this is THE Pretenders album. The songwriting, musicianship, and lyrics which showed so much raw talent in the first two Pretenders albums are overflowing here. On this album, black and white turns to color. This is their Rubber Soul, their Pet Sounds, their Parallel Lines. It's where the rubber meets the road. Whereas the first two albums have some (sorry) filler in the form of extended jams and obscure experiments, this is a self-contained unit that doesn't pander, always entertains, and never disappoints. Oh, and the remastered sound and packaging are great, too. This may be the single best ten dollars you spend all year.

Thanks for the speedy service. As a preschool music teacher this product is a great choice!
THE BEST CD FOR KIDS AND LEARNING.......2006-11-11
I used this with my own children, and when I was a school teacher, and now I'm buying it for grandchildren. The songs are lively, cheerful, and easy to follow. They create a happy learning atmosphere, and the kids have a lot of fun with it,too. It's also wonderful in the car. I consider it a classic, and a wonderful addition to the development of any child.
Good CD for the very young to sing and move.......2005-09-03
Good CD for the young to sing and do the actions. I used this often in early kindergarten classes.
Yayyyyyy Hap!.......2005-07-22
I love Hap Palmer, I love Hap Palmer, I love Hap Palmer.
I am sooooooooo excited to find all this great music that I listened to 20 years ago (my mom was a kindergarten teacher), now for "my" kids - my preschool students. The other reviwer took the words out of my mouth: I learned to see the world in colors because of Hap Palmer. This music is classic, and will go on forever and ever in classrooms everywhere. If I could afford it, I'd buy it all, but since I have to pick and choose, this one is definitely at the top of my list. If you buy this CD, you won't regret it!!!!
Learning Basic Skills Through Music Vol.1.......2005-01-14
I was thrilled to find this music!!! my children listened to it in the 70's while we were living in Sunnyvale, CA. They are now in their 30's and they still remember the songs. Now I will be playing it for my grandchildren.I hope Madalyn, Zachary, Reid and Neyssa will be playing it for their children. Thank you Hap Palmer for making such beautiful memories for my family.

Zen Capitalism (ý mole, or do you want more?).......2006-04-16
Halpern is a great artist... and a gret money-maker. Each "new" title has the same songs, sometimes with different names... A little swindle... Zen swindle, I would say... But I love them all anyway.

Nice background music for studying.......2001-04-02
This is my first Steve Halpern album. I'm not sure if the subliminals in this CD do any good, but the new age music on it is nice, relaxing, and not annoying. It is not distracting either. I use it to study with and it certainly helps block out unwanted noise.

Tony Chestnut.......2007-01-19
Wonderful product for big kids(adults) and little kids! So glad I purchased it! Fun for all!
Not so great.......2006-11-02
I thought the Tony Chestnut song would be a little more upbeat. The whole CD is much like folk music. I am not a lover of it.
Great CD for Ex Ed.......2002-02-21
This CD is the best. I use it DAILY in our morning "Circle Time" with my Ex Ed classroom. The children (of all abilities and levels) LOVE it and really get into the movements and words of the songs. Tony Chestnut & 5 Little Monkeys are their favorites.
"Miss Terri".......2002-01-25
What a wonderful surprise this CD is! I am a Preschool teacher and had previously found the 'basic' words to the title song on-line. It was sung to a slightly different tune than presented on the cd, but none the less, is a MAJOR hit with my students! It's a play on words from the classic head-shoulders-knees & toes. That particular song is a bit to advanced for the special needs children but there are MANY others that are appropriate! The kids LOVE the Swimming Song & The Mirror song, the latter being a cool down, more quiet song, with FUN movement!! I would definetly say "Add it to your collection"! I also purchased Learning Station's newest CD, Physical Ed. It too is equally good, but it is physical be prepared!! It is also geared more to the older 3's and even 4 year old students.
Move and Groove with the Kids.......2000-12-29
I had to buy the CD version since my cassette wore out. Every song is great and kids of all ages enjoy singing as well as movin' and groovin' to the beat. The title song TONY CHESTNUT is the favorite among the younger set. It's a wonderful play on words for the body parts; toe-knee-chest-nut (head) etc. I have successfully taught this song to children as young as 3 to the ripe age of 8. Parents enjoyed learning the words and motions from their children. The rest of the songs are wonderful too. I had the luck of seeing the Learning Station in person a few years back for a Musical Workshop and it was well worth the time put it in. I recommend the rest of their CDs as well.

The Talented Mr Zevon.......2007-07-05
I was familair with only about 5 songs by Warren Zevon when I bought this CD in 1993 when it came out. I figured, let me take a chance on what some live versions sound like of songs that I already know and I'll get to hear some of the rest of his catalog too. Well its 14 years later & I still listen to this frequently.
Its basically a solo, unplugged type of performance showcasing Warren's considerable talents on both guitar & piano, and a little harmonica thrown in too. His piano playing is excellent and there is quite a range from a fun-sounding version of Warewolves... to very soulful versions of Roland.. and Hasten Down the Wind. His vocal range is also outstanding, just listen to how long he holds the last note of "Berkeley" at the end of Roland.
Overall its a very entertaining & enjoyable performance. This is one artist that I'm sorry I never got to see perform live. I've since purchased most of his catalog over the years. Its his songwriting that really draws me to him. You'll find a gem or two on any Zevon album.
it's good but the studio versions are better.......2006-11-11
I like this cd but it is really for hard core fans of Zevon. The stripped down versions (either just guitar or piano) take away rather than energize the songs.
In my opinion, his work is about the lyrics rather than the music. I have alwasy liked the production and arrangements of Zevon's albums.
On the other hand, Zevon plays the 12 string accoustic guitar quite effectively. I never knew how talented and vibrant his playing could be.
The cd has a good selection of his best songs and acts as a comprehensive compilation. A superior move would be to get a greatest hits cd of the studio versions.
The piano songs work well but the guitar ones are way too sparce.
The "Excitable Boy" Live Solo .......2006-06-02
Over the years, Warren Zevon wrote some of the most interesting rock n roll songs and this live acoustic disc gives a great overview of some of his best stuff. With just a guitar, a piano and his voice he delivers a great set covering a lot of his career. The songs you expect are here, "Lawyers, Guns, and Money", "Excitable Boy", "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" (you must check out his piano prelude to this song, "Roland Chorale"...if you have any doubt of his musical talent, this will blow your mind. It makes me wish he had finished his classical opus), "Hasten Down the Wind", "Werewolves of London", "Play It All Night Long", and "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me". Other standouts include the beautiful "Indifference of Heaven", "Splendid Isolation", 'Mr. Bad Example", "The French Inhaler", and "Searching for a Heart".
The thing about Warren's music was that he could write a wide variety of songs...from the horrific to the beautific and this set allows you to really listen to the words, to the way the songs were constructed. He was truly a great artist and it was a sad day when he left this world.
The best way to listen to this disc is to put on his early, recently re-released live disc "Stand In the Fire" (thank you Rhino!) and listen to them back to back. You will hear the raw electric early Warren and then the more adult, and sober artist he grew into.
During his life he was criminally under-rated and was never given his due from the wider world. I will tell you this though, when the years come around his songs will still be sung and studied while most of the artists who outsold him will be long forgotten.
Not hyperbole.......2005-07-20
"Learning to Flinch" is the best live rock LP ever released (Lou Reed's "Rock 'n' Roll Animal" being the second best).
Flinching In Public.......2005-03-23
This is a very frustrating listen, because it is so darn spotty. The voice is frequently undermiked, and the guitar is often harsh. But it is Warren Zevon in his element. I saw him play a show very much like the ones captured here, in Harrisburg PA, during the tour for "The Envoy." He was a captivating performer, full of wicked humor and some amazing chops.
The best moments on "Learning To Flinch" come when Warren sits behind his piano and lets loose. "Excitable Boy," "Hasten Down The Wind," are the CD's highpoints. But you also have to put up with a nearly inaudible version of "Mr Bad Example" and a puzzlingly drawn out synthesized opening to "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner."
"Learning to Flinch" will likely always stay in my library because of the handful of great renditions here (especially "Boom Boom Mancini"), but only the die hards should feel like they absolutely have to own this. The superior "Stand in the Fire" concert album has returned to print, so you really can do better.

Diverse sounds.......2007-03-22
This soundtrack is a cool mix of different genres of music. However, I bought it for only one track: Meshell Ndegeocello's 'Soul Searching'. Too Sexy.
It is ahead of its time.......2006-04-24
i mean seriously it really is.a soundtrack this diverse was unheard of during the 90's.Though ironically this represents the diversity of that awesome decade verry well.theirs something here for everybody.ZHANE,ice cube, liz phair, rage against the machine, brand new heavies.you would be hard pressed to find a more diverse soundtrack from this era.
as far as the songs themselves their actualy good, and i have nothing really bad to say about them.though i must admit tori amous isn't for me.and i belive people had the same problem with this album.it was probably TOO diverse for its own good, but nevertheless a good album.
Wonderful.......2006-03-05
I have been looking for this CD for the longest. Im so glad I found it. My favorite song is "Soul Searchin" by Me'Shell NdegeOcello.
Can't find TA's "losing my religion" anywhere else!!!!.......2005-08-31
This cd is worth the price for just Tori Amos' haunting and beautiful rendition of "Losing My Religion".......nuff said.
Thought Provoking.......2005-08-04
One of the words that can best describe this albums content is variety. It may bounce around too much for some people. My favorite song on it is Butterfly by Tori Amos, but I like the heavier stuff too, like the Rage Agains The Machine track. Check the lineup and if you see enough artists that you like, get it. Otherwise pick up a different CD.

Steven Spielberg veered from the futuristic sci-fi flirtations of A.I. and Minority Report with this brisk, stylish period take on the career of teen con-man extraordinaire Frank Abagnale (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his dogged G-man pursuer/de facto extended family member Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks). As always, the director's musical collaborator is John Williams, and the scoring legend uses the occasion of their 20th collaboration as a rewarding musical journey back to the days when he was known as Johnny Williams, ambitious young pianist for Henry Mancini on such early jazz scores as Peter Gunn. Informed by a half-century of subsequent achievement, Williams's return to the jazz idiom of his youth yields a smart, nervous score that evokes more than mere nostalgia. But with Dan Higgins's moody sax often leading the way, the veteran composer's work here seems more evocative reinvention than revisitation, yet another tribute to his uncanny ability to make any idiom his own. A handful of pop standards (including Sinatra's "Come Fly with Me," Getz and Gilberto's "Girl from Ipanema," "The Christmas Song" by Nat "King" Cole) deftly color both period and plot, but, as always, it's Williams who provides Spielberg's masterful imagery with its musical life's blood. --Jerry McCulley

Outstanding!.......2007-04-04
John Williams does it again! This man is the best composer I have ever heard! The music fits the scenes in the movies so unblievably well that you will wonder how one man was creative enough to think of it!
Johnny's "Lost in Soundtrack".......2006-08-25
The opening theme is the coolest ever. It has that jazzy, suspenseful, space-age groove that takes you back to the early 60's era portrayed in the movie.
Once I discovered it was done by John Williams, things started to click. The arrangement and themes actually go back way before he was famous. Back to an era he may not want you to remember. Back when he was known simply as "Johnny" Williams.
First, notice the melody and pace of the creeping marimbas and bubbling flutes. Next, catch a repeat of the old Sci-Fi, TV Fairy-Tale known as "LOST IN SPACE." Listen for the incidental, suspense-scene music throughout. Did you catch the composer's name in the credits?
Bingo!(and still very cool)!
Excellent Mix of Jazz and Emotion.......2006-02-20
This is brilliant. You will have this theme ringing in your ears for a month after listening. I have collected around 25 to 30 J. Williams scores. This is wonderful like the rest...
John Williams, Film Scores and Jazz all done to Perfection........2004-10-15
I loved the movie and now the music. I think it is one of the most original soundtracks that John Williams has ever done. The Jazz in this music is so peaceful and lighthearted. This soundtrack should be on any music lovers shelf. In my book, this music is a classic film score.
A Great "Catch".......2004-10-04
Steven Spielberg's 2002 film CATCH ME IF YOU CAN was a breezy crime caper movie based on the true-life story of Frank Abagnale, a real "phony" who nevertheless embarked on a three-year spree of writing bum checks adding up to millions during the 1960s. To capture that era's swinging mores, he had his great friend John Williams design one of that composer's quirkiest scores ever--very jazzy and redolent of the scores Henry Mancini devised for the "Pink Panther" films and Stanley Donen's 1963 classic CHARADE.
But for Williams, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN was very much a homecoming, as he started out in jazz and even worked quite closely with Mancini early on in Hollywood. The genuine jauntiness and mystery of the film's main musical motifs are balanced by moments of warm but not mushy sentimentality, and hit songs of that period by Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz, and Dusty Springfield round out this appealing collection.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN was such an offbeat project for a composer and a director known for boldness, but it served as a challenge that Spielberg aced on the screen and Williams aced in his music. It is highly recommended for its sheer audacity in going back to the past and still remaining relevant to today.

Switchfoot's best work?.......2007-01-24
Although I haven't listened to Switchfoot's two most recent albulms (Oh! Gravity and Nothing Is Sound) I consider New Way to Be Human their best up through Beautiful Letdown. Learning to Breathe is also great. If you don't have these albulms, by all means you should buy them at this price.
Great addition for the Switchfoot fan.......2006-07-24
In a day where Switchfoot is known for hits such as "Meant to Live", "Dare you to Move", and "Stars", early songs like "Chem 6A", "New Way to be Human", and "Learning to Breath" remain unheard. This 3 cd set is a perfect additon for those who love the music of the San Diego rockers. Although dissapointing compared to their latter albums, there first three give songs that are awesome both musically and lyrically. In my opinion, each cd gets better as the group matures. I don't recommend this collcection for those who just enjoy Switchfoot with their top 20 spotlight songs. But if you enjoyed the Beautiful Letdown and Nothing is Sound, this is a must have.
Wow! 3 CD's for the Price of 1!!!.......2006-03-22
I love Switchfoot. These guys are definitely one of the best comtemporary Christian groups out there. You can't beat having a 3 cd set for such a great price. The set comes with the original cd's (original covers) along with the books that were with the cd's. So you get all the great original songs for a great price. Learning to Breath, New way to be Human - just can't beat these songs. Enjoy!!!!
Switchfoot.......2005-09-08
I love switchfoot....I didn't have the first 3 CDs so it was a perfect buy and at a reasonable cost. Definately recommend.

Switchfoot Lover.......2005-08-29
Loved the Switchfoot triple CD! It was great to see how they've changed from their first CD through their third CD. One thing that didn't change is the great music they produce and can't wait for the new CD to come out in Sept. 2005. They are a great band and sound even better in person - if you ever have the chance to see them in person! This triple CD is a great value for the price.

Album Description
Music for Learning facilitates the ideal accelerated learning environment known as Body Relaxed/Mind Alert. Gentle music, nature interludes, and slow tempos create a Body Relaxed condition. Alternating complex/simplex sound structures, variations in rhythm and dynamics, and a rich harmonic spectrum facilitate the state of Mind Alert. All elements combined, Music for Learning supports clear focus and greatly enhanced concentration.

Music in the Learning Environment - YES!.......2003-04-09
I recently used this CD as part of my master's degree research project and thesis. I used this music in a reading comprehension study and a hallway behavior study. I also used Halpern's Accelerated Learning music, and Creed's heavier rock music. To summarize: 75% of students who listened to these classical pieces before reading scored an average of 6.7% higher on reading comprehension tests than when they did not. Hallway behavior improved by 33% while this CD was played. In contrast, misbehavior nearly doubled with the rock music. The tempo, timbres and form of this music seemed most effective in the middle school environment I used for this study. I don't usually leave reviews, but thought this was noteworthy, especially for other educators.
Helps Me Learn Complex Information Almost Effortlessly........2000-04-07
I have a job which requires me to learn complex information to keep pace with technological changes. I've never had an easier time quickly learning and retaining the data now that I've started using this CD. The music is wonderful to listen to even when I'm not studying. The performances are a bit different from the way the music might ordinarily be recorded, an added bonus. I hope this label produces additional titles in the near future, I now own six and want more!
