Review CD Ready or Not by Lou Gramm.......2007-02-22
Cd was in perfect condition. Amazon Was Only Place I could find copy.
Raw But Good.......2006-09-11
I have to say, this was not one of my favorite projects from Lou, but it is strong in it's way & demonstrates his ability to head out on his own. It is not like Foreigner material, so if you're hung up on his sound when he was with them, I wouldn't recommend Ready Or Not for your collection. Ready Or Not, the title cut, was an excellent way to begin the album, as it's strong & I think it encourages someone with an open mind to what Lou was intending to listen further. However, I don't think any of the other cuts are quite as strong in terms of rockin' out. A couple of my favorites on here are Midnight Blue, of course, (I think I would still say that even if it hadn't been released & been semi successful for him), Time, which is actually kind of reminiscent of when the rockers used to have a story to tell in their songs, & She's Got To Know. She's Got To Know started me thinking about how you can not like an arrangement of a song, but still totally dig the message it delivers. I think he sounds kind of corny on that song, & I don't think the arrangement really flows well, is kind of cheesy, but the message is a good one. I found I was thinking that both men & women should probably have a listen to those lyrics & perhaps they would have a little something to come out of it thinking about if they chose to. Anyway, the musicianship was a bit raw, which has already been said somewhere, even by Lou I think. I noticed he likes a lot of revirb on his slow, sad tunes. The voice is good on here. There is variation from living in his upper range to mid range. People know him for his voice much of the time & you know, that's good, but these things do change over time. This album is from when he could still pull that range out of himself, but if you live in the age of Foreigner, as I said, this does not compare, as it shouldn't, as it is Lou gone solo & solo, to me, means he has the right to be himself. I say nice work & don't regret that I added Ready Or Not to my collection.
Good just not great.......2006-08-21
Lou Gramm truly has the best rock voice out there. In my opinion however he should have stayed with a great thing when he had it. Although this CD is very good it just can't live up to the greatness he's known for while with Foreigner. At the price it's still worth the buy if your a fan just don't expect it to top his past glory.
Ready or Not.......2005-10-06
This guy can sing! Very good lyrics and drums. This is a great CD!
The Direction Foreigner Should Have Gone..........2005-09-17
Back in 1981, Foreigner released their best album in"4". Their late 1984 follow up. "Agent Provocateur", was an overly slick, keyboard laden affair that pracitcally had forsaken their hard rock roots, which in turn alienated a good portion of their core audience, including this reviewer. Flash forward to 1987, two and a half years since Agent Provocateur's release, Foreigner lead vocalist Lou Gramm comes through for the Foreigner core fan base with his first solo effort, "Ready or Not" . With most of the track co-written by bass player Bruce Turgon, who himself would later join Foreigner in 1995; the songs are well-composed and accessible. Nils Lofgren (of Grin and also Bruce Springsteen fame) supplies most of the lead guitar work.
The result was very pleasing; Lou Gramm goes back to the straight-up rock roots that Foreigner nearly abandoned. Gramm wastes no time by straightening things out immediately by leading off with the most aggressive track on the album, the title track. He defiantly came ready and so were the true Foreigner fans. The tempo continues with another good track, "Heartache".
Things get musically better with the album's most commercially successful and accessible track "Midnight Blue". This energetic, straight up pop-rock track is a definite breath of musical fresh air. This was also Gramm's first solo single to ever be released, which turned out to be a top five hit for him, peaking at #5 in 1987. Also it hit #1 on Billboard Album Rock Tracks Chart, a notable feat in the era of Bon Jovi, Guns & Roses and U2. "Time" is another quality rocker which keeps things musically up to speed.
Much further into the CD Gramm still does not let up with two other hard-rocking tracks, "She's Got to Know" and "Arrow Through Your Heart".
If you are a Foreigner fan, this Ready Or Not is just as essential to have in your collection as Foreigner's "4" or any of their classic albums from the 70's. After listening to it, you will then know who the real rocker in Foreigner was. And by the mid-1980's it wasn't Mick Jones.

Album Description
Full title - Fast Cars - Coming...Ready Or Not! Fast Cars were one of the most underrated bands from Manchester scene in the late 70s. They played with XTC, The Buzzcocks, Joy Division, The Fall, The Rezillos and supported The Jam. Their brilliant debut single 'The Kids Just Wanna Dance' picked up daytime Radio One play and they were almost signed by The Jams A&R man at Polydor. Of Course, the music has a nasty habit of turning it's back on some great bands and sadly this is what happened, in the early 80s the band split, disillusioned with all the bullshit that the industry was throwing up. 16 original powerpop tunes plus two covers, Bowies 'Suffragette City' & the Holland/Holland/Dozier number 'This Old Heart Of Mine'. Detour Records. 2001.
Customer Reviews:
Top pop punk from England.......2006-01-15
This CD is an amazing find, I'd only heard of "The kids just wanna dance" before cause that is always listed a classic from the day. Fast Cars are one of the original pop punk bands playing the style 20 years before Green Day etc !!! Tracks like "Bombed our school" "Marching as to war" are just as relevant today, "Marching" could be a theme tune for Iraq !!!
Hope someone can find more from where this came from, truly 5 star pop punk !!!
A Power Pop Classic!.......2005-10-12
I've never written a review on Amazon, and I'm only writing one now because I find it disheartening an album this good has no reviews.
At first, what struck me about the album is how much it sounded like The Exploding Hearts, as if the Fast Cars were trying to fill the void left by the Hearts' tragic demise. Which might have been the case, except for the fact that the Fast Cars made their mark in the '70s!
The songs are loud and catchy, but, similar to the Hearts, the sound is dirtier and more roughhewn than power pop songs such as Cheap Trick's "Surrender," but this only adds to the charm of the Fast Cars and sets them apart from their peers.
So if you like The Exploding Hearts, '70s punk or power pop in general, the Fast Cars are worth checking out. The album price is worth it, if only for the classic "The Kids Just Wanna Dance."
Plus considering that as of this writing this is the only review and that the ultra-rare original vinyl of the Fast Cars goes for mad cash on E-bay, just knowing about this band is sure to get you more cred than putting on a skinny tie. At least among the Japanese anyway.

A fine fine musician.......2003-10-13
Keith, and his band long ago introduced me to Zydeco and its massive underground scene in the early 80's and since then i've been hooked.
This colaborative album only proves to me further the genius behind the acordian.
The thumping bass and whining melody drove me insane, and i was forced to make copies of the cd for my friends and relatives to pass on the magic.
CALI.......2000-04-10
I thought that the Cd could have had more songs. But I liked the whole Cd except "You can't keep a good man down." I especially like Operator and Shining Star. Keith Frank is a talented accordian player, and the rest of the band, his sister, brother and the other players are very skilled at their tasks
No song preview samples.......2000-04-01
I am disappointed. There are no samples of the songs for this CD. A few titles are listed but no play time. I enjoy being able to preview CD's before purchasing. This is my first time logging on to this site. However, I was informed I could preview songs prior to purchase. I would like to purchase this CD, but not without a preview.

Album Description
Godfrey located his rather beefy frame somewhere to the left of Bill Cosby in the mid-'60s, setting the stage for the Richard Pryors to come with gentle but pointed observations of the way blacks view whites and each other. Check out some of the titles of these routines-this was pretty daring stuff back in the mid-'60s, 'The Rent-a-Negro Plan', 'Block Busting', 'Irresistible Me (Women Around the World)', 'Middle Income Frustrations', 'Arthur Uncle', 'Misinterpretations-Cary Grant is the White Godfrey Cambridge', 'I Love Barry', 'Movies', and 'Method Acting.' A #42-charting album from 1964, on CD for the first time. Laugh.com. 2002.
Customer Reviews:
Great comedy CD where are the others?.......2007-03-04
Godfrey Cambridge is halfway between Bill Cosby and Dick Gregory. Like Cosby, Cambridge tells stories more than jokes and like Gregory there is a very acute awareness of the racial struggle of the time. Like Cosby, Cambridge's material has aged well, aside from a few cultural references that are lost 40 years later, like Gregory sometimes the rage is subtle and in a black velvet glove.

Customer Reviews:
Urgently recommended despite some production missteps.......2007-01-07
This premiere recording makes some very beautiful music available for the first time. The opera was first performed in 1936, and Vaughan Williams continued to make revisions into the mid 1950s. The music is representative of the composer's mature style. In the opera's later version given here, Evelyn Sharp's original book was revised by Ursula Vaughan Williams.
The Poisoned Kiss is a romantic comedy, a fairy tale about the triumph of true love over revenge. The opera is not through-sung; rather, the dramatic action is carried forward by dialogue in a manner reminiscent of Gilbert and Sullivan or the West End. At times, the witty, good-naturedly sarcastic text and playful rhyme schemes are reminiscent of Noel Coward.
The musicians are just about ideal. Hickox leads a luscious performance, capturing by turn the music's pastoral beauty and (not very threatening) irony. The singers are of uniformly high quality, with the characterization and fresh voices of James Gilchrist and Janice Watson as the young lovers deserving special mention. Anne Collins's fruity, wide-vibratoed contralto at times seems to be a musical caricature, but it works nicely in the role.
The production has two major flaws. First, the sound image is placed rather distant from the listener. I felt as if I were sitting towards the back of the auditorium and wanted to move up closer to the stage. The SACD's surround mode did add compensatory perspective and body to the sound, as well as a little extra punch to the thunder, cat shrieks, and other fairy-tale sound effects. The two-channel version sounded significantly flatter and more distant. Second, almost all of the dialogue has been omitted. It would have been enjoyable to hear the music in its dramatic context. Indeed, the abrupt juxtaposition of musical numbers that in performance would be separated by dialogue and a shift of dramatic tone is sometimes jarring. With less than an hour on each disc (and with singers who display such fine diction and acting skills), this is a major missed opportunity. Fortunately, the dialogue is printed in the libretto.
Despite these quibbles, this set is still urgently recommended!

George Dean.......2004-10-21
This is a great album. Even though most of the songs are old, his musician did a great job with redoing music. I love how George sings with great anointing. I love bass groove on "New Walk" it is COLD(means very good). The whole album is good. You can put the cd in and let it play until the end. I really don't have a favorite song, but if I have to pick it will be "Humbleness". Great Job Gospel Four!!!!
