Album Description
Top of the British Classical Charts for 10 Weeks! Billboard Top Ten Classical Recording - December 2002! This album gathers together most of the carols I have composed over the years, plus a sprinkling of my arrangements of traditional carols, grouped to form a program which narrates, reflects upon, and celebrates the Christmas story. I have always enjoyed carols ever since I first sang them as a member of my school choir, and it was not long before I began to write carols of my own-in fact my first two published compositions were the Nativity Carol and the Shepherd's Pipe Carol. For any musician involved in choral music, Christmas is an especially joyous time, and I am indeed happy that it has played a part in my musical life for so many years- JOHN RUTTER
Customer Reviews:
Rutter Christmas Album.......2007-05-14
Great selection of music, and well presented. This is however older recordings that do not match the quality of Rutter's latest recordings such as the Te Deum or the Gloria.
Unique and Beautiful!.......2007-03-09
John Rutter, and his beautiful music, is such a gift to the world. This unique Christmas CD is magnificent! Especially touching are two of Rutter's original carols, "Christmas Lullaby" and the joyful "Angels' Carol." The musical selections speak to the soul, helping the listener connect to emotions of joy, peace, faith, hope, and love. This is a worthy addition to your collection of Christmas CDs.
Johh Rutter Chirstmas Album.......2007-02-19
If I were to choose only one Christmas album to ever own, this would be the one. John Rutter is an exceptional composer of religious music, with unusual harmonies. The music is difficult to sing, and because this is his own choir and he is directing it, the performance is flawless. Gives you goosebumps.
Liked it enough to go through a lot of trouble to give it a review........2007-02-07
Great music by John Rutter: Great performance!
John Rutter and Cambridge Singers.......2007-01-18
This is quintessential English cathedral music; beautifully sung. Reminds one of the English Christmas -- warm and serene -- that we've only experienced in our dreams!

Incredible.......2006-09-22
I have about 40 Christmas CDs, and this one is in my top 2 or 3 favorites. The orchestra compliments the choir so beautifully and the offerings here are varied and interesting. 5 stars!
Brand-new Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir!.......2004-09-20
This brand-new recording of Christmas music from the Tabernacle Choir is marvellous. Recorded on their own "Mormon Tabernacle Choir" label, this is the choir's first recording of seasonal music, and it surpasses any previous holiday release that the choir has made.
Using the music of both John Rutter and the arrangements of Mack Wilberg, "Sing Choirs of Angels" enjoys a wonderful flow from track to track: from the propulsive "Fum, Fum, Fum" to the sublimely meditative "What Sweeter Music"; from the majestic "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" to a brand new music and lyric setting of the gentle "Still, Still, Still" there is something here for everyone. Listening to this recording brings a warm holiday spirit into my heart and home.
Recorded in the Tabernacle at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, and using the versatile Orchestra at Temple Square, the choir and orchestra sound luminous and warm; these new recordings truly are miles above anything the Choir has done before - the polish and feeling that they bring to these new recordings are stunning.
The booklet that accompanies the CD is beautiful as well, with full color photographs of traditional Christmas symbols, full lyrics, track by track commentary, and a glossary of what each Christmas symbol means. This is a quality gift to give to friends and neighbors to help usher in the Christmas season. Unreservedly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
A Timeless Tradition.......2005-12-15
I have been listening to this choir since 1982. I wore out the original tape, in the days before CD's. I have been to the actual performance, a week before Christmas three times and am going back this year 2005.
The performance is so delicate, yet so powerful that it is emotional and moving, regardless of your orientation. Imagine this performance, in the manificent HH Richardson-designed Trinity Church, Copley Square, Boston. People wait for hours to get in. The lights go out, the Choir, brass timpani and organ just work so well together. One by one, candles are lit, and the huge church comes alive. The choir processes down the asiles singing in strength and everyone joins in.
It is a spiritual experience even if you are not religious. The strength of the performance invites you to participate. I find myself singing louder than I do anywhere else.
After my first child was born, I held her in my arms, and "Candlelight Carol" became my anthem:
How do you capture
The wind on the water?
How do you count all the stars in the sky?
How can you measure
The love of a mother
Or how can you write down
A baby's first cry?
I am not a musician and to my ear, the Chorus is professional. The tunes are classic, but they bring a new life to familiar tunes.
If you've been feeling stressed out, this is the perfect time to calm the nerves, focus on meaning and purpose, and let you enjoy yourself for a few minutes.
If you can't attend, do the next best thing, get the CD, turn it up till you hear the bass of the organ rumble your rafters and sing your heart out.
Enjoy!
A nice blend of music for Christmas.......2003-12-30
This is one of my favorite discs at Christmas time. It is at once peaceful and calm, yet joyous and expectant. There are the usual brass and organ carols, but also stunning arrangements and performances of lesser-known things. Prime among these are the setting of "Away in a Manger" that makes me want to pull off the highway and listen just to that song without distractions, and the pulsing, exciting "What Strangers are These", which I have never heard anywhere else. Chorally, the disc is a little unsatisfying because of balance issues with the rest of the disc--some songs are loud, others very soft, so it makes it hard to listen to without having to adjust the volume periodically. However, I still wouldn't trade it for all the Messiahs in the world!

"The theme of this album is the birth of Christ, reflected in the words and music of 22 carols spanning more than six centuries." This description might also say that the program contains some of the best and best-loved Christmas choral pieces of all time, presented in a pleasing mix of familiar carols and lesser-known original works. Among the best-known selections are Darke's "In the bleak mid-winter" and Howells's "A spotless rose." Several original pieces by John Rutter appear here for the first time--"Christmas Night," "There is a flower," and "Nativity Carol." Other notable highlights are Peter Cornelius's "The three kings" and the lively Willcocks arrangement of "Tomorrow shall be my dancing day." Of course, the singing is among the best on the planet--in fact, there may even be a few heavenly angels in the soprano section. --David Vernier
Album Description
An incredible collection of 22 carols, old and new, including I Wonder As I Wander, Away In A Manger, O Tannenbaum, and In Dulci Jubilo. "In the field of choral Christmas CDs, Christmas Night shines brightest of all." David Vernier - Classics Today
Customer Reviews:
Great music, fine performance.......2007-01-26
Recommended for everyone to have since secularized "popular" Christmas music is repeated endlessly from mid November to 25 December with dreary lyrics and superficial performance. Carols of the Nativity is immensely better.
The Best of the best.......2006-12-22
I,ve been collecting Christmas Music for over 25 Years especially the non-pop genre. This is my desert CD. The Chanticleer and Kings College CDs are very good but this is the summit of quiet meditative music for the season. I always listen to this alone at night and still get thrilled and overwhelmed by it's beauty and sublimity. My favorite track is "In the Bleak Mid-Winter" simply because of the beauty of the poetry of Rossetti. I always give this as a gift to my friends who enjoy beautiful acapella music.Do yourself a favor and purchase this most beautiful of all Christmas music. I own over 200 Christmas CD'S and this one gets played at least twice a season. The other Rutter Christmas CD's are excellent but not quite in the same class. This is a once in a lifetime album. It is the centerpiece of my own personal celebration of christmastime.
Beautiful Music, Beautifully Sung.......2003-12-18
This compilation of Christmas carols both traditional and modern stands in stark contrast to much of the bubble gum, soda pop Christmas music so often heard on popular radio these days. There are no divas or over the top performances or attempts to make "a moment". What there is are beautiful songs sung by talented singers.
So many of these carols are so beautiful that it's hard to pick out which are the best. More likely than not, that's going to be a highly personal choice but if you see one of your favorites on the track list you can be sure that it's well performed.
In short, this album should be part of your Christmas collection. It's best listened to in the quiet time on Christmas Eve.
A bleak Mid-winter.......2003-10-17
This CD contains the usual Rutter mix of gorgeous traditional treatments with a few incredibly schlocky arrangements. Fortunately, I can just leave the schlock off my iPod playlist (otherwise I'd return the CD).
The real letdown is my own fault: I didn't notice that "In the Bleak Midwinter" is the Darke version, not Holst. Ugh. If only the RealAudio samples had stretched one song further down the song list.
If you own one Christmas Music CD--this is it.......2002-12-24
You can't beat the polished ensemble sound of the Cambridge Singers and John Rutter has devoted his life to celebrating the joys of Anglican Christmas music. This is a coherent program of carols that you can play without skipping tracks. The selection is well-balanced and covers a broad historical range. Although there are some interesting alternatives out there for purists (such as Kings College Choir and the Tallis Singers)if you own just one CD of English Christmas music--this should be the one.

Excellent Christmas CD. I especially liked the "Angles Carol" track!
Would recommend this CD to one and all.
"Mr. Choral Christmas's Finest".......2002-11-21
Anyone who truly loves the choral and carol traditions of Christmas cannot miss Mr. Rutter's work. He is truly possessed of extraordinary talent and this fine recording puts it on proper display. The collection here houses the best of Mr. Rutter's original/edited works for the Christmas season, and one can sense the composer's affinity for the spirit of the holidays of which he has written so prolifically and well.
At the Top of My Christmas Playing List!.......2001-12-07
This is just an outstanding collection of choral, Christian selections. The majority are composed by Rutter, who it turns out was led into this field for which he is so well known and loved when in school, he was motivated by a fellow student who was composing a Christimas carol to do the same. Thanks be to God for that motivation!
Rutter's work simply in this humble reviewer has no other contemporary peer. He is reverent, fresh and excellent theology to boot! This collection has his best, including my favorites: "Shepherd's Pipe Carol, What Sweeter Music, The very best time of year, Angels' Carol."
To his compositions, added is Kirkpatrick's "Away In a Manger" and of course, Gruber's "Silent Night", both skillfully arranged and performed. Bonus selections of traditional pieces such as "I Wonder as I wonder."
The City of London Sinfonia conducted by Stephen Layton provides the orchestra background marvelously for Polyphany, the outstanding choir on this work.
You will be delighted to add this CD to your collection, and it will rise in most collections to near the top.
Well worth

Album Description
This recording has been a labor of love for all of us. It has been a wonderful experience working together in the studio with Steve Hall. He is a marvelous person and his ideas and musical talent are truly gifts. We are proud to share in this recording with him. The candle is traditionally a symbol of warmth and light. In this special season it is also a symbol of God's gift to us, of His light and direction in the form of His son. This is truly a time to give thanks and praise and to pray for peace on earth, as the angels did 2000 years ago. This recording is our way of joining in the thanksgiving and celebration by using our gift of music. We've carefully selected and arranged Christmas songs that are special to us and hopefully will become special to you. We hoope that, as you listen, you will gain a deep sense of tranquility, peace, and the joy of this special season as you immerse yourself in the warmth of "A Candlelight Christmas."

Beautiful arrangements of pop and traditional carols.......1999-12-07
I was shopping last week and I heard this lovely piano christmas music filling the store. It was like shopping and Nordstrom where they have a live pianist near the atrium. I found out it was this CD by Danny Wright. If you are looking for something for background music for a quiet dinner or gathering - this is an excellent choice. I particularly like the medley of Count Your Blessings / White Christmas from the Irving Berlin movie.

Timeless carols from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany performed on the harp. Sunita's contempory interpretations of traditional festive music is perfect for creating the holiday mood.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful solo harp music for the Christmas season.......2006-10-05
I had this cd on a lot over the holidays. It is soft and beautiful and very relaxing. The harp doesn't stand out in the mix as much as it does on Cynthia Douglas' cds, but Sunita's music is gorgeous and rewards close listening. The hymns wil put you in the holiday spirit.
It is a good disc to have on in the background while you read or work on something in the office or around the house (In my case, around the office is more likely).
I still prefer Cynthia Douglas for celtic music on the harp, but Sunita is considered one of the best young harpists in the world, and this cd is very good. Recommended.

Holiday Tranquility.......2003-12-05
As a Holistic Health Practitioner, I am very familiar with music therapy. James Anthony Walker's 'Music for a Candlelight Christmas' is medicine for the soul. The sound is not only warmly delicate, but ethereal in nature - making it soothing in a 'welcome home' sort of way.
I highly recommend adding this magical CD to your holiday collection. It's music that you can truly listen to with your heart.
O what a merry Christmas this is.......2003-11-27
It's a rare moment indeed when a CD of Christmas music gets my attention.
But Walker has done that, and then some. I love the ambient feel that he has so skillfully lent to so many of these Classics. It makes the songs sing in a very special way.
And Walker is a very special composer indeed. Where has he been? My thanks to him for sharing this wonderful music. This is ear candy for a very bright time of year - but it is not enough! I want more from what this musician perceives as a talent that many many more people need to hear.
Thanks.
Harmonious and Soothing.......2003-11-21
The creative genious of James Anthony Walker allows you to close your eyes and experience the gentle, almost hypnotic sounds of Christmas. His music is soothing; the delicate dulcimer, the tranquil strings, allowing you to relax and contemplate the true meaning of Christmas - Peace - Love - Tranquility.
I look forward to new introductions from this truley talented composer.
A Perfect Start to the Holiday Season.......2003-11-21
Christmas recordings like this one are a rare breed. We have all heard the various carols and know them well. We encounter them year after year sung and played in every imaginable way. Their familiarity is what is so comforting, allowing us to invoke the flavor of the season in a way no mere garland can muster. James Anthony Walker has taken us a step further in his wonderful arrangements of the standard holiday fare. The music is both social and intimate providing a host of possibilities for display. You will definitely feel the holiday spirit whether playing the recording as a backdrop for a festive gathering, an intimate Christmas Eve dinner or a solitary moment savoring the holiday mood. An extra bonus, though, is the unique way Walker has of approaching each carol. With the clear vision of a composer, Walker brings a fresh approach to each song. You can (and should) listen to each not only as a backdrop, but for the beautiful musicality displayed. For these, and so many other reasons, this Christmas recording should be in your collection.

Please go see if you get a chance!!.......2006-12-07
In high school, I sung with the Candlelight Choir over 10 times in three years. I had so much fun singing with this choir. I've also experienced the Processional from the audience's prospective when my younger sister participated in the Candlelight Choir.
If you're in the Orlando, Florida area anytime between Thanksgiving weekend and New Years, please go see one of the shows! There are three shows a day, each hosted by a different celebrity, my favorites being James Avery (Uncle Phil from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) and Gary Sinise (Lt. Dan Taylor from Forrest Gump). The show times vary, the first show usually starts around dusk.
The absolute best!.......2006-01-13
I listened to this one in my car throughout the holiday! Am ordering now for gifts for next year. Well spoken dialogue and magnificent music combine for a most meaningful listening experience.
I sang at Epcot..........2005-12-24
Every year they pick 10 schools out of like 100. And that is just for the chouir. They also have a proffesional Chouir of older people, and like a quartet also. It has like 20 something songs to keep you intertained. Some are even diffrent lanuages. Like, Il Est Ne'(Now is Born) which is french, What Child is This some of it is in spanish, Silent Night part of it is in German, and the rest are english. They all have a diffrent feel to them, but are great to listen too. Here are some of the songs That I can remember are on here.
Il Est Ne'
Rejoice with Exceeding Great Joy
(Both are my 2 favs.)
Silent Night
Angels from the Realms for Glory
What Child is This
Joy to the World
The Hallelujah Chorus
God Bless ye Merry Gentlemen
Shout for Joy
and many others.
Its really great, it has a story that ties it all together. But don't worry. Only a few lines before everysong. Well I think so...Thats how they did it at candlelight.
