This is one of the most extradinary CD's on the market and have been for many years. This Cd is anointed and blessed beyond measure. This Cd covers a variety of songs that covers our daily lives and shows the "Power of God" moving in each song. The words are powerful and will not only touch your mind but will also touch your "Spirit" in more then one way. These kids sang each song with love and power. WOW!!!

This album is one Walt Whitman and The Soul Children's best efforts ever. The album opens up with "Instrument Of Praise", in which the choir tells the Lord to make them an instrument of praise to serve Him even more. "Shabach" means to shout, to address in a loud tone, to command, to triumph. That's exactly what the choir does in the song. You'll not only want to Shabach the Lord, but dance all night long. Walt Whitman does his own renditions of some gospel oldies, Walter Hawkins' "He's God", "I Love You", and Calvin B. Rhone's "Allejuah Praise Jehovah". The song that will really minister to you is "Give It To God". The song says if you have a problem and you're looking for an answer, give it to God because He's the one that can solve it. If you haven't heard of Walt Whitman and The Soul Children Of Chicago, or if you're a fan, get "Growing Up", you won't be disappointed, but deeply annointed.

I began assisting with my church's children's choir one month ago and the children love singing the songs from this album.

They practice often and when asked to sing any of these songs they sing to the honor and glory of God. I like the songs myself. They are a great inspiration.

Ready To Celebrate Jesus?.......2002-05-10

First off, this is the album that should have been entitled, "Growing Up", because this album shows that Walt Whitman and The Soul Children have grown with the times, and that they've grown in their style. One thing remains the same though, that the choir still ministers to your soul with heartfelt messages in the songs that are being sung. The album opens up with the setting-of-the-tone-for-the-album song, "Lift Him Up". After listening to that song, we find that the song was only to prepare us to celebrate Jesus with "Celebrate". Although majority of the songs have that contemporary gospel feel to them, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" will appeal to those that are longing for that good old gospel music. What became an instant favorite to me was Walt Whitman's rendtion on Rick Found's "Lord, I Lift Your Name On High". If you haven't heard of Walt Whitman and The Soul Children of Chicago, or even if you're a fan, you won't be diappointed with this album, but deeply annointed.

They've done it again! God has truly blessed Brother Whitman and these beautiful children. The music is there, the message is there and most of all, God is there. With a combination like this, how can they miss? The children's choir in my church sings "His Eye is on the Sparrow" and they will be singing more material from this wonderful group!

The Greatest Youth Chior.......2000-02-18

This CD is definetly one of the CD's to get if you are a gospel music lover. Walt Whittman does an excellent job at directing these young children. "My Father Knows" (soloist Lecrecia Campbel)is one of the best songs on the album. "Greater He" provides just the right mix of hip hip and scripture to woo even the youngest of gospel lovers. If you are young and new to gospel, this album will be sure to have you tapping your toes and praising the Lord at the same time.

I tell you, I've only heard one song because my cd haven't came yet. But His eye is on the sparrow sparked my insides with intensity. It really reminded me to live life with greatfulness and preach to others that he's coming back one day and that everyone needs to get there life focus and right for jesus christ. Robeson at his best.......2001-03-24

This album consists of recordings Paul Robeson made in Britain durong the 1920s. He is accompanied by the great pianist Lawrence Brown or by a small orchestra led by Ray Noble. The songs on this disc are spirituals or pop songs of the era, and Robeson shines on every one of them. Robeson has an uncanny ability to make any song his own property, and this is especially true on his version of "Little Pal" - originally a saccharine semi-racist ballad written for Al Jolson. Robeson turns the song into a searing lament of an estranged father, and makes the song valid even today with his urgent, committed delivery. The majority of the songs on the cd are spirituals, and Robeson's versions are definitive in every sense of the word. All in all, there isn't a bad track here, and as an introduction to Robeson's work the record is priceless. The only aspect worth criticizing is the fact that the liner notes seem to shy away from the fact that Robeson was the first important black artist to actively fight for civil rights. The music here, however, is extremely beautiful.

This Is What has been missing for a long time.......2006-08-01

These past few years, Chicago has been pouring out sucessful youth choirs such as New Direction and Joshua's Troop but ain't none of them have anything on the original. The Soul Children of Chicago. Each and every song on the album gives you the answer on why they are singing and reaching every nation for as long as they did. Walt Whitman knows how to train is choir so that way when they get older most of them just did a transformation to the Thompson Community Singers. I already taught my youth choir two songs from the album. The also take you down memory lane with the songs Higher, Higher and He's alive which were songs that were song in churches across this nation. From the opener which is called The Charge onto the ending which is the Shabach remix, You can feel the presence of God on each and every song. I only see one available copy on here but you can go to there website [...]and order your copy. You will not be dissappointed.

This CD has been inspiration to me for YEARS! The awesome talent exhibited by the children and the passionate Praise being lifted on the songs make the CD more than worth the money. This minister to your spirit and woo you musically all at the same time. While "Perfect Praise" and "Use Me" are certainly awesome in every right, the other songs make the entire CD an enjoyable listening experience.

Rejoice For This Is The Day That The Lord Has Made!!!.......2002-05-10

The album opens up with "The Lord's Prayer", but don't think that the song sets the tone for the album because it doesn't. "This Is The Day" definitely sets the tone for this project. The music for the song gets your body and soul energized to lift Jesus all day long. "This Is The Day" reminds one that if "the birds, rocks, trees, and even stars can praise Him, so can they"; therefore one should rejoice that God lets them see another glorious day that He has made not only for them but everybody. This album is filled with reflective praise and adoration songs, some examples of this would be "Use Me" and "Perfect Praise". "Use Me" is a song that tells God that we love Him so much that we want Him to use us as instruments of praise to exalt Him. "Perfect Praise" proclaims that there's no other name in all of the earth that compares to that of Jesus', and for that reason, that makes Him excellent. If you like Walt Whitman and The Soul Children of Chicago's other projects, then you wont be disappointed, but truly annointed with this one as well.

One or Two Songs Make the Purchase "Worth It"!.......2001-08-05

I got the CD because I heard the wonderful rendition of "Perfect Praise" over the radio. The words are God-glorifying and the gifted soloist leaves me breathless each time I hear what God has so generously given her and what she, in turn, gives back. I also appreciate the song, "Use Me" because of the words. The lead singer on this song, too, is abundantly gifted and that gift is being rightly used - to uplift the Name of Jesus. Some of the other arrangements are monotonous in their repetitious phrasing. I sometimes think we do more "entertaining" than praising through the medium of music.

Praise the lord! After years of searching for this moving song, I was finally able to purchase it. I purchased the entire CD based on "How Excellent" or what is known as "Perfect Peace". After moving to straight this song, I also found the remainder of the CD to be good.

I'm overjoyed, for this is absolutely a praiseworthy CD. Thanks to the artist whom originally crafted this CD and the thousands of churches whom have made the song, "Perfect Peace" (How Excellent) the perfect praise song to the Lord.

"Live and Blessed In Chicago" opens up with "The Praise Song". The song, which may be evident by it's name, is a praise song to the Lord. The songs says that yes, life's troubles may cause you to be down and question things, but remember God puts us through those things to make us stronger and not only that, He always delivers us out of those situations. He does so many things for us that surpasses our understanding, but it's all for a reason, and for that, we should praise Him because He loves us so much. After "The Praise Song",the choir goes on to praise God even more and exclaim that He's "Holy, Holy, Holy". The album almost comes to an end with the moving "He's Worthy". The fast paced songs are "He Died For Me" and my favorite "Joy of The Lord". If you're a fan of Walt Whitman and The Soul Children of Chicago, then you won't be disappointed with this album, but deeply annointed.

Walt Whitman is amazing. I remember when I was just 9 or 10 years old and "think big" was my first solo in church. I was a shy girl who liked to sing, but in the background. My mom's friend encouraged me to sing the song and I gave it a different twist. I have all of my solo's on vhs. My dad owed a camcorder so he videotaped us. I went to Shield of Faith baptist church in Chicago Illinois. Those were the good old days for me. It is a lovely album for youth groups all over the world.

Walt Whitman's first album, "We Are One," is amazing. It has great songs for children to sing and lets everyone know that you can praise the Lord and minister at any age. "I'm A Child," is a great example, it let's people know that "there's a difference in me, I belong to the King"; along with "We Are One". "Thank You" is a song for all ages. It reminds one that the Lord has done so much for them and they need to take the time out to say thank you for every little thing. This album is a definite investment in rearing children to live a Christian life.

Every saved and unsaved person, especially children should listen to this CD. It is so wonderful to listen to children sing about the love of Jesus and praising His name. It is above and beyond to have someone like Mr. Whitman to be the head of such an awesome choir.
