Innocence, purity, exuberance and sweetness is Jaya Lakshmi...the album is a musical Lotus Blossom that celebrates harmony and devotion.
Ocean Of Mercy, Jaya Lakshmi's first Album..........2006-10-01
I enjoy this album immensely.
However I like her newer album, Jewel of Hari much much better. and the funny thing is that these albums both grew on me, kind of crept up over a period of time. In fact when I first bought Jewel of Hari I actually hated it. No I really hated it. I don't know why, it was just one of those strong first impressions. But what is weird is that I listed it to sell on Amazon, and by the time I had a buyer, I popped it back into the CD player for a listen, and lo and behold, i loved it. So of course I had to ship it out. But I copied some of the songs to my computer. I ended up loving the songs soooo much over time, that I had to go out and get the album again, and this one as well.
This is her first album. What a spirited Woman musician. She went against all odds, traveling with her young daughter, a single parent, singing to her guru, and totally emersing herself in Divine Bliss, in the Ocean of Mercy. Smiles to this album.

If you enjoy chanting and Kirtan, then this is a great CD to purchase. Jaya Lakshmi has a sweet voice, a voice like and angel. This is a great CD for yoga,(I'm a yoga instructor), even massage, or just plain relaxing.
Not Just For A Devotee.......2005-03-21
I would like to think that if something similar to this was first chanted thousands of years ago, it was done with the same soul-filled passion that Jaya Lakshmi does it with. Her beautiful voice and spiritual fervor blend together for a truly unique musical and mystical experience. The music is performed flawlessly, as English mixes with what I think is Sanskrit, in this lovely and moving piece.

Fans of music from India are sure to love this. The often upbeat melody, that at times seems almost modern, will also appeal to anyone that is interested in hearing well played music from another culture. The sublime voice of Jaya Lakshmi becomes almost ethereal as she reminds me of a beautiful gopi dancing the Rasa.

It's about devotion.......2005-02-12
Mr. Anderberg obviously doesn't realize that the single focus of this album is the love and adoration of Krishna, not the prattling of "subjects in any way related to eastern religion" that he seems to think it is about. If he wants to call adoration of God "drivel, pure and simple", well, that's his business. I think he totally missed the point. The whole record is devotional--pure, loving, and sexy.

You may readily recognize the familiar sound of Girish's tabla playing, which has consistently graced popular chant recordings for the last decade. Now Girish is revolutionizing the world of chants with his funky, stirring style. On his new CD, Reveal, he intelligently incorporates pop, jazz, and folk nuances into ancient Sanskrit mantras. His voice is well trained through years of studying Sanskrit and chanting for hours a day, year after year. "I took mantras that are ten thousand years old and combined them with a musical style that makes the benefit of the mantras accessible and appealing to modern listeners," says Girish. But rather than translating the mantras, he kept the integrity of the Sanskrit sounds intact for a reason. "When you chant, the mantra acts as a portal to the presence of the deity whose name you're chanting. There's this whole energy field built up around a mantra that has been used for thousands of years and has this vortex of spiritual power built around it," he explains. A remarkable cast of performers participated in and supported the making of Reveal. These include top female vocalists Donna De Lory, Wah!, CC White and Snatam Kaur. Saxophone, keyboards, electric sitar and cello add tremendous texture and flavor. I'm new to some of eastern influenced music. I've worked in the music business for many years with rock and pop artists, but I wanted to expand my horizons. Until I came across this Girish CD, my favorites have been Dave Stringer, Krishna Das, and David Parson. My new favorite of the genre is Reveal. The entire album is amazing. I especially can't stop listening to Hanuman.
I highly recommend this CD. I'm looking forward to seeing what Girish does in the future too!!!

Upon first listening to REVEAL, I found myself intoxicated by ancient sounds woven together by the modern hands of an artist who truly understands the soul's desire to experience something deeply transcendent. Strong, earthy tones permeate mantras often thought inaccessible are now open to many in this cross-culturally infused album. Girish's languid voice takes us on a journey where inspiring, heart-felt expression is mixed with a groove all its own. These subtle, jazz-like compositions set REVEAL apart from other chant albums, allowing those who may not usually swim in these waters a chance to dive in and feel immediately at home.
To create an album with a unique sound, both vocally and instrumentally, is rare. To uplift and heal the spirit as well is...extraordinary!
A Wonderful CD.......2004-11-09
"Reveal" by Girish is a CD of articulate beauty, accessible devotion and amazing musicianship. Girish weaves ancient Sanskrit mantras with contemporary and inventive melodies to bring chant out of the ashram and into the living room.
I love this CD. I'm instantly enveloped by Girish's hypnotic vocals and lush arrangements every time I listen to it. His voice is deep and fluid, expressing the emotional calling of Kirtan through melodies that you come away singing. Yes, I find myself singing in Sanskrit, understanding the meaning even if I don't know what the words themselves mean, being connected to an ancient intelligence on a visceral level.

Girish's beautiful sound is overlain with a palpable sense of devotion that speaks to a place deep inside. When friends are over and I play it, it never goes unremarked, and this is true whether or not they are from a Hindu tradition. It's one of my absolute favorite cds.

Born in Canada, Ma has lived for over 30 years in India, which makes Ma an unique Indian kirtan singer. As Krishna Das said to his friends - "you've gotta hear this, it's the real thing!" Ma says this recording is her laser beam to open hearts to devotion! It is a daring recording, haunting and emotional. After visiting her ashram in India, Ma's beloved friend Krishna Das left behind a slip of paper with Tulsi Das' (translator of the Ramayana) last poem; which Ma arranged for kirtan and has included on this album. Wherever Ma went in America, she was asked to sing this again and again! This CD is a must for Rama devotees.

Ma Chetan Jyoti has created yet another masterpiece of auditory delight! The depth of feeling with which she sings transports one to the very height of bliss - just listening to this album is a meditation in itself.
