5 out of 5 stars Wedding/Love Songs CD.......2007-02-15

This is a fantastic CD with truly the "best" love songs. In addition, to songs about romantic love, there are songs appropriate for friendship and also songs about the love to/from God.

5 out of 5 stars Great Music.......2006-10-04

I bought this CD when planning my wedding just to get ideas for wedding music. I still listen to this CD after my wedding, because it has such great Christian songs commonly used in weddings. I loved the music was all sung by it's original artist. It's a must have CD of Christian Wedding/Love songs.

5 out of 5 stars Great Wedding Music!.......2005-10-17

I recently purchased this CD which I happen to find while browsing in Amazon.Com. After listening to sample clips, I was convinced that this compilation of various artists was the best choice of all the other wedding music CD's that I have viewed. This cd offers a variety of music styles from comtemporary artists. Very romantic, perfect for your wedding! I highly recommend this cd for those who are just can't find the right music to play at their wedding. I highly recommend it!

Some of these songs are good for playing at your wedding ceremony.

3 out of 5 stars Cheesefest.......2005-09-25

If you want really corny, "top 40"ish music, this is fine. But if you want really good wedding music that doesn't make you feel like you're on WPLJ(top 40), then this is not it! Very cheesy - I'm not using a thing on it. Oh well.

5 out of 5 stars Love listening to the oldies...Neicy style!.......2007-07-06

This CD is very easy to listen to, I missed listening to Deniece Williams and this album is a great way to reacquaint herself with her fans.

4 out of 5 stars You'll Love Niecy's Style!.......2007-06-26

The songstress that brought you smash hits like "Silly" and "Let's Hear It For The Boy" resurfaces into the R&B world after having a number of years devoted to gospel music. Deniece Williams' new album Love, Niecy Style is a collection of reworked classics and an entirely new track to prove she's still got what it takes to belt out a jammin' track. She starts off with her rendition of Baby Washington's "That's How Heartaches Are Made" with help from Stevie Wonder on harmonica to bring it all together. Philip Bailey lends an assist by doing his signature background ad-libs for her interpretation of the Earth Wind and Fire classic "Love's Holiday." Deniece shines on "This Time I'll Be Sweeter," her tribute to the late Gwen Guthrie who originally wrote the song. She then sings her heart out on the Stevie Wonder tune "If You Really Love Me" and Donny Hathaway's "Someday We'll All Be Free" before doing a knockout performance of "Cherish" by Kool And The Gang. George Benson joins her for her version of his song "Lady Love Me (One More Time)." She closes out the album strong with the brand new ballad "The Only Thing Missing Is You," a stellar rendition of Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much," and a re-recorded version of her own song "Cause You Love Me, Baby." Fans will enjoy the mix of songs as well as the arrangement of the tracks on this album. After listening to Love, Niecy Style, there will be no doubt in anyone's mind that Deniece Williams can still throw down when it comes to singing R&B

3 out of 5 stars A come back!.......2007-06-01

It's nice to have Deniece Williams back on the R&B scene again. I think she should have done new material. She still has that golden voice of hers for sure! This album could have been a little longer, but maybe this is a warm up for her. It's been over 30 years since the release of her "This Is Niecy" album (1976), and she's trying to get back in sync. You go girl!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Welcome Back To Soul Music Niecy!.......2007-05-28

Initially, I was hesitant about getting YET ANOTHER 'Remake/Covers' CD, but Deniece WIlliams hasn't recorded SOUL MUSIC in so long, it was worth a shot. After she scored many R&B hits, Niecy released 'Let's Hear It For The Boy' in 1984, and it went to the top of the Pop charts! Needless to say, CBS wanted her to record MORE & MORE of that Pop trash (songs produced by Brad Westering!), and her original R&B fanbase was left out. CBS dropped Niecy during 1989, and she soon returned to her Gospel roots. Fast forward almost 20 years, and Deniece Williams has returned to US...lovers of Soul/R&B Music, and this is cause for celebration, even for a remake CD.
'Love, Niecy Style' gave Ms.Williams a chance to record some of her favorite soul tracks, and put her spin on the classics. This works well for Niecy because her voice hasn't really diminished, and some of her A-list friends were enlisted to spice up things (unlike other Shanachie CDs which mainly employed a tired house band of unknowns!). Niecy couldn't lose with friends like Stevie Wonder, Philip Bailey, and George Duke on board. Here's a few words about each of the 10 tracks...
1. That's How Heartaches Are Made - Nice way to start the CD with Stevie Wonder's distinctive harmonica! The midtempo arrangement works quite well, and Niecy sounds very good on this remake.
2. Love's Holiday - Great! Niecy remakes a classic Earth Wind & Fire track with Philip Bailey providing smooth background vocals (just like he did 30 years ago on the original!). I knew Niecy would cover an EWF track, and she does the song much justice.
3. This Time I'll Be Sweeter - Wow, Niecy did a great job on her version of the Gwen Guthrie/Angela Bofill classic. It's a different feel this time with Niecy's strong Soprano on display as opposed to Bofill's trademark vocal. Niecy does the original some justice.
4. If You Really Love Me - Niecy remakes a Stevie Wonder classic and it sounds like she went back to her old 'Wonderlove' days.
5. Someday We'll All Be Free - Wow, I understand why Niecy cried while recording this track. Donny Hathaway's classic is an emotional song, and Niecy has the vocal chops to interpret the timeless lyrics. Donny would be proud.
6. Cherish - Look, I NEVER LIKED the original version (by Kool & The Gang), and this is my least favorite song on the CD. Sappy SUGARY Pop songs like this have no soul, but Niecy made it a lil' easier to stomach.
7. Lady Love Me - VERY Interesting remake of Gerge Benson's hit. First the title, while perfect for a male singer, isn't good for a woman unless....At any rate, Niecy sounds very engaged here, and I'm happy to say the lyrics are CHANGED to 'Baby Love Me (One More Time)'.
8. The Only Thing Missing - The only original recording on this CD sounds great, and Niecy should've done this type of music a decade ago. It takes me back to her soulful slow jam 'Waiting' (1981), and hopefully this is a sign of things to come for Niecy.
9. Never Too Much - A Luther remake...wow! This is good stuff and I applaud Niecy for covering this classic from 1981. Overall, the arrangement hasn't been changed, but Niecy breathes fresh air into the jam. Luther is smiling down on her!
10. Cause You Love Me Baby - Niecy Sings Niecy!! Yes, our girl flips the script on all these OTHER remake CDs, and decides to cover one of HER CLASSICS from her 1976 debut. Hearing this version illustrates how GREAT of a job Maurice White & Charles Stepney did producing Niecy 31 years ago. Deniece sounds 'very good' here, but the musicians can't touch the job that EWF did back in the day. Nice remake though.

With all things considered, I'm rating 'Love, Niecy Style' 4 stars!!
The CD loses a star because it's ONLY 10 tracks long, failure to include more pictures of Niecy, and including that pop song 'Cherish'.
I recommend 'Love, Niecy Style' to the many fans of Deniece Williams, and let's pray that she returns with a full CD in the near future.
Peace, Sean D

5 out of 5 stars You Go Girl!!!!!!!.......2007-05-28

I really love this new C.D. by Deniece Williams and I can agree with you guys when you say she took the songs and made them her own. She did a remarkable job! I'm sure that the original artist who are still with us are proud of her and those that are not, would be proud.

I highly recommend "ALL" Deniece Williams fans to pick up this C.D. You will not be disappointed.

Deniece has a lot of respect in all she do, think, speak and sing.
She has an incredible voice, Style, beauty, and, intellect with little to just about no limit to what she can do and no matter what genre she sing from, God's light still shines through her. So "Niecy" if you read this review, All your true fans want you to "Keep Up The Good Work" don't listen to the HATERS because they don't know good music when they hear it.

Thank you for the Mother's Day gifts.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Summary of Avalon's First Seven Years..........2007-05-04

"Christian music will never be the same..."
That sentence has probably been said by a lot of people regarding the arrival of one of Christian music's biggest phenomenons: AVALON. The vocal quartet, known for their smooth harmonies, has received:

Twenty-five Dove Award Nominations
Three Dove Awards
Three GRAMMY nominations
An American Music Award
Two RIAA-certified Gold albums
Over 3.5 million albums sold
Twenty #1 hit singles (Sixteen of which are featured on this album)
Several television appearances
and more.

Although Avalon has been lavished with success throughout the past 12 years, they are definitely familiar with sorrow and misfortune. (They've had more success than misfortune!) They've had several member changes, as Nikki Hassman-Anders, Cherie Adams, and Michael Passons have all left the group. That's not including Jody McBrayer, who just recently announced that he will be leaving the group as well in January of 2008 due to heart disease.

However, seven years after they began, Avalon released in 2003 "Testify To Love: The Very Best of Avalon" a collection of sixteen of their #1 hits. Smashes include:

"Give It Up" - the first we heard from Avalon
"Testify To Love" - the longest running #1 song of the 1990s
"Adonai" - 1998 Dove Award (Most Inspirational Recorded Song)
"The Glory" - huge #1 hit
"Wonder Why" - another #1

Also includes a special bonus cut from their Christmas record, the spine-tingling "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day" (also done by Celine Dion).

Overall, this collection of songs summarizes the first seven years of AVALON...however, don't stop there!!

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING COLLECTION by BJ.......2007-03-03

This collection ROCKS!! Avalon is definitely my favorite group of all time! "New Day", a new recording, is extrememly catchy and one of Avalon's best. I really loved this one. "Everything To Me", another new recording, features Michael and Melissa with their amazing and powerful voices. "Pray" is fast and catchy with Jody's special vocal talent along with Melissa. Of course I loved all the huge #1 hits like: "Wonder Why", "Give It Up", "Testify To Love", "Can't Live A Day", "In Not Of" and "I Don't Want To Go" and MORE! I liked the bonus track, "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day", too. I would definitely recommend this CD to everyone! LOVE YOU AVALON!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME! .......2006-06-19

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE CD'S THAT I JUST CAN'T LIVE A DAY WITHOUT LISTENING TO! AVALON HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME AND MANY OF THESE SONGS I KNEW, BUT DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS THEM SINGING IT UNTIL I PURCHASED THE CD. I WILL NEVER REGRET THIS PURCHASE!
MY FAVORITE TRACK IS #4 "EVERYTHING TO ME", ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS WHAT MY LORD IS TO ME!

4 out of 5 stars Good Sound, Very Good Lyrics.......2006-04-23

This is a strong collection of songs by Avalon. Although I've heard several of these songs, I have never had an Avalon CD before. I have been quite pleased with this group of songs.

The songs have solid Christian lyrics. The sound is a lighter pop sound. It is very upbeat and some of the songs are pretty catchy.

Some of the one that I particularly like are as follows: 'Everything To Me', 'Testify To Love', 'Adonai', 'Always Have, Always Will', and 'The Glory'.

This is definitely worth a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Great Cd.......2005-10-23

This is just an awesome cd and anybody into christian music would love it. New Day and Testify to Love are my favorite songs on this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-04-06

This is a wonderful gift for all but especially to a younger generation that loves God. I would recommend this cd as one of his best after the Pages of Life.

5 out of 5 stars Fred has done it again..........2007-03-08

Great Cd, filled with a balance of praise and worship. Very easy going and enjoyable.

5 out of 5 stars It's a gem!.......2006-07-13

In grad school I did a position paper on mining for diamonds and its related cost in human and economic terms. It (mining for diamonds) is an ardous process that is long and tedious. When I purchased this CD two years ago, I couldn't get with it. The extensive number of r&b/soul driven melodies weren't to my liking. Now two years later, it as if the album was released last month as I continue to play in with eager anticipation. It's a gem that reveals Fred and his musicial team ability to minister in a different vibe yet as equally effective as their other offerings. After all, why should I hold them within the same musical framework when I am growing and maturing as the years go by in the Lord! Kudos are in order for such a musical gem!

5 out of 5 stars Fred's music is the TRUTH.......2006-06-27

Fred's music always touches me. He truly is a musical genius - in my book, he's up there with Prince, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway, and so many other greats. His is the only concert I've ever been to where I bawled like a baby and couldn't find a dry eye in the house - literally. He really knows how to touch your soul, from the young to the old. This CD is just another one to add to the list of constant rotation CDs. His music never gets old or stale and this one just reaffirms his talent.

4 out of 5 stars I Love This C.D.................2006-05-11

I admit it did take a while to grow on me but overall this C.D is beatiful. A few traks that you can skip over. But once you get that Core playlist that you like, YOU WILL LOVE IT

More than a few novelists and literature professors have cited the troika of love, god, and death as the basic subjects of all literary works. It just so happens that most music is about the same stuff, and Johnny Cash's music is especially so. Except in Cash's music, you can tease from the general (peculiarly American?) idea of death the more dramatic, intentional, cruel strain of murder. The distinction is crucial for Cash--and this 48-track, three-CD collection--as the struggle presented throughout this set is to understand the subject of a person's will. The will to love, the will to believe, the will to murder: each involves surrender, and most of Cash's protagonists surrender (or are so vanquished that there's no discernible difference). Barrel chested in its breadth, Cash's voice is as ideal a delivery mechanism for metaphysics as it is for the police blotter, the confessional, and the altar. As for the music, Love, God, Murder goes all out to follow its thematic breakdown, avoiding chronological layout--except for Sun-era classics like "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk the Line" to open Murder and Love, respectively. Murder's inclusion of "Orleans Parish Prison" and its B-side "Jacob Green," both recorded in 1972 at Stockholm, Sweden's Osteraker Prison, testify at once to the American roots and global relevance of Cash's vision. The contrasts between '90s material like Kris Kristofferson's "Why Me Lord" and Cash's own "Redemption" (both from American Recordings) with 1958's "It Was Jesus" and 1959's "Great Speckled Bird" (on God) is inspired, a great way to track the sometimes single-mindedness of Cash in his investigation of human behavior. Sure, the inclusion of short commentaries by Cash, U2's Bono (on God), June Carter Cash (on Love), and filmmaker Quentin Tarantino (on Murder) amounts to very little of substance, but it's always nice to read Johnny on Cash and especially June Carter Cash on Johnny. Fans might question another packaging of Cash hits, but the impeccable logic of the song choices and their thematic placement make this slim box an inarguably good thing for most with a passing interest in--or even a lasting obsession with--Cash. --Andrew Bartlett

5 out of 5 stars Amazon Must Not Like This Box Set Very Much.......2005-02-02

Both of the spotlight reviews say that the music in this collection are not so hot. Who listens to country music from the '50s for Stereo? Yeah, so this may not be the best collection of Johnny Cash music, but it comes with fake tattoos. Who doesn't want fake Johnny Cash tattoos? Oh man, they're awesome. You gotta see them. I've got this cool one with a gun on my left bi-cept as I write this. I wish I could show you a picture cus I look really cool. To wrap up- if you are only interested in Johnny Cash's excellent music, you might want to look elsewhere, but if you are in it for the total Johnny Cash experience, you gotta get this set. Don't buy it used unless you can verify you will still get the tats. I wish the new Motley Crux collection came with tats.

Look, if you are like me, you have a couple of Johnny Cash CD's kicking around in your collection. I have both the Prison Cd's, and they are just super. However, I really didn't feel like buying 7 million of his releases to get a broad picture of JC's recordings (lets face it, JC had his first 'best of' in 1965!) so, I bought this set. This set has great packaging and the songs are just incredible and span most of his career.

I highly recommend this release if you have some JC but want more, but don't want to take a small loan out to try and get everything.

The songs are powerful, they are deep and some will make you laugh although most will make you cry.

JC is missed and I must tell you this lessens the longing.

4 out of 5 stars cash makes it all real.......2003-09-03

Unlike the rest of his greatest hits packages, this trio of discs (16 tracks each and themed neatly as Love, Murder and God) were hand-picked by Cash from across the spectrum of his all-encompassing career - from early Sun recordings in the `50s to Rick Rubin-produced comeback discs in the middle of the new country `90s. But familiarity is not an issue: no kidding, one listen to this bunch and poof! you're an instant Cash fan. There's something undeniably magical about his formula for story-telling. It's not country, it's not honky tonk, it's not rock and roll, it's something more primal, like twisted campfire songs sung/spoken by a black-clad bullfrog sitting on the fence between heaven and hell. Themes aside, the imagery of love, God and murder float through all three discs, though Murder was the first stop (don't ask why) and it's the best; packed with black-humoured tales from the Old West (Don't Take Your Guns To Town, Mister Garfield), of hangings, gun fights, prisons (Folsom Prison Blues, Austin Prison), luckless outlaws (Cocaine Blues) and merciless sheriffs, all brought to vibrant life and stamped indelibly with Cash's echoed and haunting baritone, token sound effects and spartan acoustics. The spirit of the Murder set is epitomized in Joe Bean, the tale of an ill-fated bandit who, despite his mother's best efforts at the Governor's office, is hanged on his birthday. Mid-song, Cash and a chorus break in to `Happy Birthday Joe Bean' only to be interrupted by the sound of the gallows creaking open and the audible - gack! - of a freshly hung Bean. Try to stifle the chuckles when the bunch resume singing the birthday refrain. It's dark, twisted - and damn funny, tongue-in-cheek violence that makes Uzi-blasting gangsta rappers sound like the Muppets. From Murder to Love, if only because it has a bevy of familiar tracks (I Walk the Line, Flesh and Blood, Ring of Fire, Oh What a Dream). While not quite as captivating a listen as Murder, it boasts the same brilliant storytelling - bittersweet, gruesome and genuine - and unencumbered acoustic pluck, a steely guitar style so evocative of the Old West the backbeat sounds as if it's been stapled to the front end of a coal-fired express train. No surprise - in Cash's world of Love the roses are faded, the hearts are broken and commitment is more likely to end in fiery destruction than a silver anniversary. Forget chocolates and candles. The love celebrated here is the real goods - the pain, desperation, the doom, the jealousy - not the simpleton sonnets of undying amour espoused in new country aggrandizement. Finally, there's God. With its age-old imagery of fire, brimstone and anticipated salvation, it's a closer companion piece to Murder, a fact played out as Cash's big authoritative baritone resonates like a tent revival preacher, transforming the subject matter - this time a black and white hymn book packed with Old West spirituals - into hypnotically colourful illustrations of heavenly affirmation and Holy fire (It Was Jesus, My God Is Real, Redemption, Belshazzar, The Kneeling Drunkard's Plea). Yes, there may be more to life than love, murder and God. But in dashing his world of outlaws, heartbreak and faith with impossibly human fallibilities, contradictions and twisted consequences, Cash makes it real, so real you'll ultimately feel like celebrating the fact you're alive.

5 out of 5 stars Eminem has nothing on Johnny Cash.......2001-12-29

What struck me the most about this three-disc set are the 16 songs that comprise the "murder" disc. Songs such as "When It's Springtime in Alaska" and "Cocaine Blues" are every bit as stark and brutal as anything you'll hear by modern rap stars. I've always respected Cash as a singer and musician, but hearing this set re-acquainted me with Cash the outlaw. It's interesting to note that Cash was singing about murdering his loved ones (e.g., in "Cocaine Blues") decades before Eminem was rapping about murdering his wife, Kim. But Cash is more than an outlaw, as the "Love" and "God" discs demonstrate. Whether singing original songs or interpreting songs written by others, Cash reveals himself to be a complicated man wrestling with demons while aspring to love people and worship God.

5 out of 5 stars Incomparable.......2001-08-10

A rare thing: every track is important. You listen to the three albums through and just want to start over again. If you are unfamiliar with Cash except as the "man in black" this is a fantastic way to get to know the depth and the breadth of his career.

THIS IS MUSIC YOU CAN LISTEN TO EVERY DAY AND ENJOY OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

3 out of 5 stars White bread, well-baked in spots.......2005-08-12

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir that performs on this disc is a tightly-knit, well-conducted unit, and some of the tracks on the disc border on the ethereal. "Lead, Kindly Light," "Sweet Hour of Prayer" (in parts) and "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," for example, touch the soul and bring tears to the eyes.

However, on other arrangements the choir sounds like a group of white folks far removed from the remainder of humanity. For example, the opening track, "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty," and also "All Creatures of Our God and King" sound rote and perfunctory, like a group of elementary school students (with very fine voices, to be sure) going through the paces of a daily sing: elevator music on a grand scale. At the opposite extreme, sudden dynamic shifts in other tracks sound pretentious. The final bars of "All Creatures of Our God and King" suggest an attempt at a grand finale, but lack even a hint of majesty or passion. The choir lacks any apparent understanding of the Shaker spirit in "Simple Gifts" --- rather like Lawrence Welk playing Bob Marley. (Not that I've ever seen a Shaker in dreadlocks.) "Battle Hymn of the Republic" begins majestically, but turns into a caricature, and then reverts to a semblance of glory (except for a brief flirtation with a minor key).

The high praise lavished on this disc by other reviewers is no surprise: It is of very high quality for what it is. The choir offers a lovely sound. However, more than half the tracks are seriously flawed, and the musicianship is sufficiently peculiar on the whole as to lower the rating considerably.

5 out of 5 stars This is the one!.......2002-08-24

If you want to hear the best of the best, this CD is it. These hymn arrangements are just beautiful and very touching. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the choir and wants to feel a little closer to heaven. The choir seems to sing literally with one voice and you feel like they are singing just for you. Congratulations to the new conductor, Craig Jessop and all those who contributed to the quality that went into producing this CD.

5 out of 5 stars A Must for the Sabbath.......2002-04-17

I LOVE IT!!! What better way to enjoy the Sabbath than to sing of the Lord's Praises with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir? This album is just the ticket! It's very powerful, and uplifting.

What? You mean I can only give this album five stars? But that doesn't even BEGIN to do it justice!

I love it. Truly a masterpiece!

5 out of 5 stars A Must for Sabbath.......2002-02-05

If you only own one Mormon Tabernacle Choir CD, this is the one. It has creative arrangements of many favorite hymns, as well as the best recording of the Wilhousky Battle Hymn arrgmt that I have ever come across. The only downer: it has (another) recording of Simple Gifts, which has been beat to death by choirs in the last decade.

I especially love the 'Glory' pieces on it: Full of timpani, brass, and alleluias- one of those discs you turn all the way up and direct the stereo when noone is looking. I hope my neighbors like it too; they probably hear it quite a bit.

5 out of 5 stars C Jones, easliy does it........2006-12-01

I love this cd, It is definitely anointed. GOD is showing us just how universal HE really is through his son Canton Jones. I can play "Love Jones" in the house,in the car, at school, at work, at party, in the church and at somebody's grandmama's house! It just has a universal feel, you know. Among my favorites are "Dance In the Spirit", "Birthday", "Fix it" and "Holla" just because I had to narrow it down to a few. But I enjoy the whole album, really. I just hope Canton Jones keeps allowing the LORD to use him!

5 out of 5 stars Off The Chain!.......2006-04-21

This CD is awesome. My favorite song is fix it but I love them all. I gives a different flavor to Gospel Hip Hop. I will be buying his other CD's. If you want somthing uplifting and want to bump too...this is the CD for you!

5 out of 5 stars Definitely Creative Ministry! .......2006-02-18

** This CD is really my favorite, even above the Fred and Mary Mary. Also even above the mass choirs, this CD is my favorite because of its closeness and realness to me. Not only does Canton Jones get you crunk, but you can realy feel the lyrics because of their truth and accuracy in this generation. You can't help but be lifted, be drawn, and get "bout it" for Christ!

5 out of 5 stars Simply excellent music that uplifts the Kingdom of God.......2006-01-05

I believe the previous reviewer's assessment of this CD was unfair. The reviewer's opinion that this CD "is more geared toward people who are transitioning from the Word to the world," is an inaccurate review of this CD and has the implication that the artist's relationship with God is wavering.

But we are all entitled to voice our opinions. Allow me to voice mine. Canton Jones is one of the most unique artists in the Gospel genre I've ever had the privilege to listen to. I've heard his name here and there in passing, but never took him seriously until I had an opportunity to preview the "Love Jones" CD in its entirety. Upon hearing it, I purchased it immediately in his hometown of Atlanta.

Canton Jones has been chosen by God to present the Gospel in a unique form to reach individuals that Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, Smokie Norful, Fred Hammond, etc. don't appeal to.

Upon listening to this CD, you'll no doubt agree with me that if this artist dedicated his God given talents to the secular music industry, he'd be topping the charts, especially considering the lack of acceptable R&B available today. But no, he's dedicated his talents to uplifting the kingdom of God, sacrificing likely more money, more fame, and more fortune.

"Love Jones", of his three albums, is the most creative and sounds most like the music you'll likely here in heavy rotation on Urban radio stations throughout the U.S. It's sound is likely why the previous reviewer saw fit to claim Jones' latest work was compromising in some form of fashion.

No, I beg to differ. Jones' does not comprise the Gospel of Jesus Christ on this album in the least bit.

"Shake It" definitely has R. Kelly musical influence. Jones' takes the "Hokey Pokey" and turns it into a dance over a dance friendly beat. This particular song is likely the target of the discouraging review of the previous reviewer, because relative to all other songs on the album, it's lyrically the least spiritual, but I believe serves the purpose Jones' intended for it, which was to provide an encouraging dance friendly song for the saints to enjoy.

"Birthday" is a song that celebrates the day you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior. There's an influence from 50 Cent's "In Da Club" which is present in the vocals during the chorus. This song is dance friendly, lyrically very creative, and uplifting for new members of the Body of Christ.

"Fix It" is an upbeat song, in which Jones' shares that God is willing and able to fix any problem you may have. It's a throwback to the old school song, "Jesus Will Fix It".

"I Tried It All" is like a personal testimony in which Jones' shares that he failed to find fulfillment in all other means, until finally trying Christ where found true lasting fulfillment.

"Dance In The Spirit" is probably the most creative song Jones' has ever done. In sound, it's almost trancelike. Lyrically, he explains the feeling of being filled with the Holy Spirit. My words do it no justice. It's just incredibly creative. A must listen!

In "Time To Go", Jones stands up against sexual temptation by asking the woman to leave so that they don't dishonor God by engaging in sexual activity before marriage over laidback R&B instrumentation.

"Holla" is a nicely produced and catchy song, in which Jones encourages the saints not to lose faith or to compromise it, and that they're strengthened by God in any circumstance. It's definitely a favorite of mine.

"Everywhere I Go" is another song to encourage the saints, letting them know they're not alone in the world, but that Christians are infiltrating the world in all avenues, being "the Salt of the Earth" or the "Light of the World" as we're called to be by Christ in Matthew 5:13-15. It, like "Shake It", has R. Kelly musical influence.

"Mission" calls for the saints who aren't afraid to fight the spiritual battle we encounter daily to stand up and go to spiritual warfare for the sake of the Gospel.

"Day Off" is a smooth track, where Jones' talks about taking a day completely off to spend it with God. It's funny, because if I walked in on this song after it had already been playing for a little while, I'd probably think it was one of your standard R&B slow jams, but not so! It's a very nice track, with very creative lyrics, giving God glory in a very unique manner. All R&B fans who love God and are wondering where the R&B genre has gone lately will definitely appreciate this song.

"#1 Fan" is a love ballad from Canton Jones to God. It has very soft instrumentation with very emotional vocals from Jones'.

"Goodtime" is true it's title. This song is probably my favorite on the track. It's an up-tempo song with marching band accompaniment in the background. It's very catchy and is true to the `ATL' sound. Jones', with featured guests, shows the saints can have a good time in the presence of God through his lyrics and it's dance friendly sound.

This is a small rundown of the album. My words don't give the experience of listening to the album much justice. "Love Jones" takes R&B and Hip Hop instrumentation and combines it with lyrics that uplift the kingdom of God without compromise to create a unique and fulfilling Gospel R&B album. Support this artists' ministry by buying his album and share it with your friends and family for an alternative to the music out there with degrading and negative subject matter played on mainstream radio stations around the clock.

3 out of 5 stars The Word to the world.......2005-12-17

To each it's own and I was really look forward to the CD but in my humble opinion this CD was a step back. My view of the first CD was, "This CD is more geared toward people who are transitioning from the world to the Word.", but I have to say this follow up CD - Love Jones is a CD that is more geared toward people who are transitioning from the Word to the world. In closing, it is not my job to judge anyone and I pray for everyone spirit, but my input and feels are honest and might be helpful to someone.

For Al Green Fans such as myself this is the only album you will ever need. There is no other Al Green Album that you can get all these heart felt, soulful tracks on. All you have to do is pop this one in and make love to your mate all night long......just a side note, Ruben Studdard is an amateur singing "How can you mend a broken heart" compared to one of the masters of silky smooth soul.....Al Green.

Reprising the trio harmony of Walela's debut, vocalist Rita Coolidge is joined by both her sister Pricilla and her niece, Laura Satterfield. The group leans further into their easy blend of Native gospel pop, venturing into a deep country soul a capella in places, most successfully on the first cut, "Gathering of Eagles." "I Have No Indian Name" employs some nice fiddling, and elsewhere banjo, pump organ, and piano serve to accent primitive percussion. The Robbie Robertson Native-rock influence is heard on several of the moodier arrangements, such as "I Know I Don't Walk on Water" and the "When It Comes." Strongest of all, "Cherokee Rose" is a powerful anthem and sister to the title cut on Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt's Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions. "When Love Was All We Knew" is over the top and a little too much like a Coca-Cola commercial, and the overall listening experience would benefit from more warmth and grit in the production. --Paige La Grone

1 out of 5 stars Unbearable songs..........2006-06-27

These ladies have some great vocals, but the Native American aspect here is overhyped. If you're looking for music by Native women that has a lot more power and originality, check out the trio, Ulali...the group whom Walela has tried to copy. This CD is not the same quality as thier first, and is more gospel and country rather than New Age Native American.

1 out of 5 stars Strictly New Age Christian.......2006-02-27

This is beautiful New Age, Christian music sung by women who are exploiting their Cherokee ancestry. This is nice music if you're a New Ager, a Christian, or a Christian Cherokee. But if you are a Cherokee who holds the traditional Cherokee beliefs dear, you might find this music downright insulting.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2004-11-17

I purchased this CD thinking it was a follow up to the first. Wrong. I love love love the first CD. I've been listening to it daily for over a month now and have turned others on to it as well. However, this CD just does not have the Native American flavor I was looking for. There's no magic. I am still listening to it, but the spiritual high I get from the first CD is definitely not present on one. All in all Rita Coolidge is still one of my favorite vocalists.

1 out of 5 stars Totally disappointing..........2004-01-18

That's the best way I can describe this album. After buying and falling in love with Walela's debut album, Walela, I was eagerly looking forward to this one. But, sadly, it's like comparing apples and oranges. The songs on this album are unremarkable and seem to my ears to be thrown together. Their first album was incredible and I listen to it daily. I don't see how they could go from amazing to pitiful from one to the next. Listening to this one just doesn't bring forth the same emotion as the first. It's just like listening to any old other country song...there's nothing spiritual about it. And the beautiful harmonies that they displayed in the first are nowhere to be heard. The songs are choppy and vary so much from line to line that it doesn't even seem like the same song sometimes. Very little sound from their Cherokee roots and turns into a total copout. My advice...pass it up. Save your money for something else...I wish I had.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet sounds........2003-07-14

Christian/Native/New Age?? Labels don't work for this CD. It is sweet stuff for the soul. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon when you only want to sit on the porch and swing gently...I will play this again and again.
