SO SO.......2005-09-03
Well i thought that it would be spectacular but it was ok i like it but its not the first thing i wanna listen to but i do like it.
Pretty good, but not their best (I give it three stars, not two).......2005-08-10
I bought this CD for one song, "let me be your armor". I love that song! The rest of the CD is ok, it was fun to hear remixes of "naked" and "disappoint", but the originals are much better. If you are new to Assemblage 23 I recommend that you buy the Storm album instead.
A Remix/B-Side Release Album.......2005-07-16
Tom Shear returns with this much anticipated album that is full of remixes and B-Side previously unreleased tracks. This is a 13 track CD with 9 of the tracks actual remixes of songs from the 'Contempt' and 'Failure' albums. Having at the moment listed to the 'Contempt' album and not 'Failure' I cannot comment on many of the remixes in full. I am at the moment purchasing the rest of Tom Shear's outstanding work.
However the highlight of this album was actually the 3 B-side songs that were not released previously. 'Let Me Be Your Armour', 'Breath Of Ghosts' and 'Away' sound better than the remixed songs. How they were never including in any other Assemblage 23 album is way beyond me. These songs are a mixture of dark industrial sounds mixed with new wave ambient trance beats. This should make any fan of Tom Shear and his work on Assemblage 23 get this album and its a valuable addon to your existing music library.
Good but not perfect.......2003-07-03
I can't really say that I am all too familiar with Assemblage 23's music like I am with VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk. I only know the song "Time Killer" and A23's most recent album "Defiance". I bought "Addendum" almost a week ago when I found a used copy of it in the used bins. I really wanted to familiarize myself with other A23's music. I didn't find out until later that "Addendum" was a remix album when I read the back of the cd case. Normally I am not wild about remix albums. I find them terribly repetitive like Delerium's "Odyssey" cd. Since I was not really familiar with most A23's music, I bought "Addendum" right on the spot. For the most part, I enjoyed "Addendum" especially the first four tracks. I thought Tom Shear really did a splendid job of fusing industrial beats with melancholic lyrics and sweet melodies. What I wasn't too fond of was the last three or four tracks. I found those songs repetitive and made me reach for my bottle of Excedrin. After listening to "Addendum", the music made me more curious to hear the orginal versions, especial "Awake" and "Naked", two of my personal favorite songs on the cd.
Three Easily-Missed Examples of Importation Bliss.......2003-01-23
While I'm not a fan of remix albums, I do find myself gravitating toward anything that Tom Shear's Assemblage 23 moniker decides to throw toward the thresholds of consumerism. Accordingly, I decided that this album, mostly comprised of remixes, needed to join me because it had some different sounds and because of the three gems concealed within its pricey imported confines. Normally my consumption-based ambitions don't congregate in such needy packs like this, but Assemblage 23's last three releases (Contempt and Failure before this and then Defiance afterward) dictate that I do so and, happily enough, I'll have to say that the songs merited the purchase I made.
Taking steps to traverse plateaus outside the momentous boundaries of Failure, these three new additions all have calling cards of their own, each keeping a temponic resonance that helps separate each one. Breath of Ghosts is heavily electronic and driven, keeping within it the normal namesake of Tom Shears in the form of lyrical charges and their perspective ability to flow. Let me Be Your Armor is a change of pace and is a bit slower than its former, managing a message of protection against the elements of cruelty life harbors within it while holding out the mantle of love in ways that are seductive in their normal-worldly appeal. Away is the slowest of the three, providing perhaps the best of the three in terms of lyrical content, message, and the depths of hidden seething emotions, speaking about the ever-growing blights some people are in life and their need to sometimes flee the deeds we've done in them.
If you've never looked into Assemblage 23 before, I wouldn't suggest this album for you because it only has three new pieces to add to the equation and because its a remix album. Instead, you might want to look into Failure of Defiance first, attaching yourself to the foundations of the message before picking up these proverbial odds and ends. If you are a fan, though, and are looking for more, the three entries and newer tastes applied to older sensations are something I would recommend trying out.

Album Description
After nearly a year of overseas collaborations, the duo known as HMB is poised to have their debut offering unleashed to the world. Comprised of Daniel Myer (Haujobb and Cleen/Cleaner) and Victoria Lloyd (Claire Voyant), the two set out to create a new boundary for experimentation. Fusing elements of EBM, techno and trance with the elegant vocal styling of Victoria and the distinctive programming of Daniel has made this album a beautifully crafted masterpiece. To complement an already solid combination, the pair also enlisted the help of Dennis Ostermann (ISC and Controlled Fusion) and Vanessa Briggs (Haujobb) to add yet another twist to the equation. Tracks such as "wanted" and "this fire" will be guaranteed floor fillers at clubs throughout the country. Their debut release, Great Industrial Love Affairs will appeal to the fans of Haujobb, Delerium, Collide and Switchblade Symphony and will not disappoint even the toughest of critics.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful, super-cool industrial beats.......2005-10-11
This is a great album! combining cool industrial sounds with both male and female vocals across fourteen excellent tracks. Personal favourites include "everything", which is a beautiful but hard-hitting industrial epic and "this fire", one of the more poppy, but still wonderfully crafted songs. Buy it!!
The dark beauty in the machine.......2002-07-27
When this project was initially underway, Victoria Lloyd sent me some of the demo tracks and I knew immediately that this was going to be a classic among EBM/Industrial dance fans. The enigmatic Daniel Meyer worked with members of Claire Voyant on some of the songs as well as a few other notable music figures in the underground, in order to tweak some of the best performances out of the combined group.
Although this is a slight change of pace of Meyer's previous works, it nonetheless creates a new benchmark for the artist to demonstrate that it is possible to skirt with various genres while still remaining loyal to fans from other work and genres.
One of the long standing debates in the underground scene has been the contention that Goth music hasn't evolved or that EBM/Industrial/ Synthpop has taken over too much of the Goth fan's attention.
HMB did the seemingly impossible. They combined the morose and forlorn emotional tides of gothic music, wrapped it up with frothy electro/industrial pulse beats and skewered it through many vocal intonations. Simply put, this CD is a brilliant piece of work that crossed the genre boundaries, signifying that Goth music and industrial music can in fact have a great marriage when enough forethought is given to its construction.
Daniel Meyer is to be lauded for the accomplishment of delivering a new body of work to his already well known classic works with Haujobb. Meyer brought out best sounds from the various artists who contributed to this project and simply disproved that Goth music is a static entity, unable to develop or venture beyond its tonal old school qualities from the 1980's.
Victoria Lloyd has had quite a following from her work with the Claire Voyant, and simply demonstrated that she is not a singular range vocalist. Her sounds can go from smooth as silk to seductively wicked in the span of a breath. Lloyd simply seduces, soothes, caresses and entices vocally, while Meyer is the musical whipping master, driving listeners into a frenzy. Along with other Claire Voyant band mates, Chris Ross and Benn Fargen, the additional evolvement of their abilities is simply brought to an innovative height to a whole new audience through the genius of Meyer.
Do seek out this recording if you like industrial dance music. Also if you are prone to Goth music with a bit more bounce to it, this should become a welcome mélange for your collection.
WickED.......2002-01-26
I am a huge Haujobb fan, and now I am a huge h-m-b fan! This album has songs that will be classics I am sure. "Wanted" and "This Fire" are easily my favorites and the sultry vocals of that siren are beyond compare. I am happy to see it released in the US.

Album Description
This set (this is the first out of seven CDs), would make an ideal introduction to Bartok's piano music, especially if you are still unfamiliar with the bulk of it. These are urbane, honest, eminently intelligible interpretations that will draw the uninitiated into the texts of this extraordinarily rich music. In her exhaustive survey of his complete piano works June de Toth proves herself a smart, solid, and reliable pianist. She offers thoughtful and often eloquent readings that reject both hysteria and the kind of kamikaze approach of so many young piano lions. Its overall sobriety and discipline is such that the music speaks for itself. She fathoms each solo piano work as a kind of apposite gestuary of hemiolas and unnerving hesitations, and as the stuff of musical speech. If Bartok was Hungary's answer to Moussorgsky, nowhere is it more evident than here. Capturing the essentially trochaic inflections of Hungarian speech with the knowing temperament of a native (Ms de Toth is full blood Hungarian) she lays out the keyboard songs with the patrician air of an old storyteller at a family gathering. Whatever one's ideas and taste may be in interpretation of Bartok, her performances are persuasive. Take particular note of her attractive readings of the 14 Bagatelles: these she portrays with a kind of arid simplicity that enhances their now playful, now lonely ethos.
Customer Reviews:
This CD is an ideal introduction to Bartok's piano music........1999-04-11
Review from AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE March/April 1999
This set (Bartok's Solo Piano Works, Volumes 1, 2 and 3) would make an ideal introduction to Bartok's piano music.
The music speaks for itself, as if Ms de Toth were loathe to run any interference. In the wistful 'Street of Istvand', for example, or in the rugged yet oddly seductive sailor song 'In the Harbor of Nagyvarad', her no-nonsense surefootedness gives ample voice to Bartok's nostalgic melancholia.
Indeed, in these works, part of the 42 Hungarian Folk Songs for Children, she fathoms each as a kind of apposite gestuary of hemiolas and unnerving hesitations, and as the stuff of musical speech.
Capturing the essentially trochaic inflections of Hungarian speech with the knowing temperament of a native (Ms de Toth is full blood Hungarian), she lays out the keyboard songs with the patrician air of an old storyteller at a family gathering.
Take particular note of her attractive readings of the 14 Bagatelles: these she portrays with a kind of arid simplicity that enhances their now playful, now lonely ethos.
In her exhaustive survey of his complete piano works (these are the first three out of seven CDs), June de Toth proves herself a smart, solid, and reliable pianist. YOUNG

Beautiful wind ensemble music.......2003-06-29
This treasure of a CD features some beautiful wind ensemble music, which really should receive more attention in the mainstream. Not your typical Sousa CD, this features the wind ensemble at its best, with both sections of the full, gorgeous ensemble sound and solo sections featuring the individual tone colors that contribute to the unique ensemble sound. The emotional capacity of this type of ensemble is huge, and this CD demonstrates that well. I would certainly recommend this CD to any lovers of band music and classical music, particularly those who enjoy the Romantic and 20th century composers who tend to use the winds to a fuller extent.

If the world is funked up, you can't keep it under your hat. Diem Jones, master of language, rhythm and deep diving for the truth, has converged with master guru composer D. Baloti Lawrence and slammin' musicians from many traditions to bring you the word, the deep-down heart and soul of it, in spoken song. Joined by a cast of internationally acclaimed musicians, Jones blends his own style of spoken word, song, poetry and spin exposing the strings on the puppets, the mixer behind the spin, and the gears in the machine. Holding history in one hand, and poetry in the other, he stirs up thought-provoking lyrics that make you look at the world through Jones-colored lenses.

Mean Rockin' Blues Jam.........2004-12-02
This album packs a heavy punch. Front man Mike DeLaCerda pulls deep from his New Orleans blues based roots to bring forth this long anticipated album. American Gypsy is in the taste of all things great. With sounds ranging from Johnny Winters to Jimi Hendrix, its all there. Catch him live, you will not regret it.
