The Wreckers are Grammy-winning songstress Michelle Branch and friend/journeywoman Nashville singer-songwriter Jessica Harp, a team whose solid craftsmanship and soaring, airtight harmonies often lift their hook-smart contemporary country stylings above what's too often mere fizzy, pop-crossover formula. They may have entered the public consciousness via the wide exposure of "Good Kind" on the primetime soap opera One Tree Hill, but the bracing, back-porch charms of the single "Leave the Pieces" should find them a following well beyond that series' teen audience. The reflective title track, gritty folk charms of "Tennessee" and giddy crowd-pleaser "My, Oh My" are suffused with a lyrical maturity that's the perfect counterpoint to the duo's sturdy musical constructs. Solid songs all, delivered with a muscular vocal conviction that does considerably more than merely sell them. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Okay.......2007-07-09
As many of you probably have, I listened to this album because it had Michelle Branch in it. I have to say that the vocals with Jessica Harp are fantastic and the sound of the songs are nice, but most of the songs aren't that great. Leave the Pieces is a nice song, but not that great. The only ones I enjoyed are Lay Me Down, Rain, The Good Kind, and Tenessee. The rest is mediocre. My, Oh My for instance is just plain boring. Rain is a great song, which sounds exactly as if it came off Hotel Paper, and isn't country at all. Lay Me Down isn't a truly great song, but I really enjoyed it. The Good Kind is a nice sounding song, and the melody reminds me of Breathe. Tenessee is a really good song.
I hope this review was helpful.
Wow.......2007-05-28
I love that Michelle Branch can be successful with mainstream and well as country music. She has such a transitional voice and is well suited for both genres. This CD is amazing!
Great debut.......2007-05-23
Overall, I really liked this album. Some of the songs were surprisingly short and sounded the same, but all in all this is a great start for the Wreckers.
Chick with rockabilly.......2007-05-22
Good album that is as easy on the ears. A good blend of country rock
I love this album!!!.......2007-05-08
I bought this album because I like one of the girls (the rock girl) and I am not disappointed :) I really like this album and I hope there's more to come.

English composer Robert Prizeman has taken a conventional English boy's choir--usually a haven for sweet songs and ecclesiastical renderings--and made them contemporary without selling out any of their intrinsic charm. Their stacked choral voices and lead sopranos, dressed up with electronica rhythms, synthesizers, and strings still sound like they could be coming from the church balcony, even while they exude an Enya-like appeal. While there are adaptations of Gregorian chants and Sibelius hymns, most of the songs are Prizeman originals based on those styles, with texts often drawn from Latin Liturgy. Except for the chilled romanticism of "Stay With Me," and the rhythm driven "Adoramus," whose chorus sounds like a Harry Potter incantation, few of the songs on Free have the anthemic pop appeal of "Salva Me" or "Vespera" from previous albums. Instead, Prizeman has opted for a more serene sound on Free, even with their first video from the disc, the yearning "I Am the Day." Some of it, like Prizeman's setting of a Walter de la Mare poem on "A Song of Enchantment," gets lugubrious. But most of Free floats on gentle soprano breezes, intrinsically innocent, even if the boys might be smoking cigarettes behind the altar. --John Diliberto
Customer Reviews:
HEAVENLY.......2007-06-19
This cd is like listening to a heavenly choir. "Free" is an awesome audio experience. It can turn a stressful day into a calm evening.
Sweetest voices ever!.......2007-06-16
I happened across this CD at Borders and was able to listen to it! One of the sweetest and heavenly CDs ever! I bought two: one for myself and one as a gift.
Awesome.......2007-01-04
I never knew that young boys could have such wonderful voices, almost angelic. The music is very relaxing and haunting at times, but that's what makes it a good album to hear to. The harmonies were so beautiful. To all choir fans, this is a must-have album.
Soothing and thought provoking.......2006-02-23
Libera is an amazing group of boys and Robert Prizeman really knows how to put everything together. My favorite songs on "Free" are Voca Me, Stay With Me, Adoramus, I Am the Day and Twilight. Each time I listen to this disc, another song seems to start growing on me. This was my first Libera CD (I have since bought Luminosa, Libera and Visions) and at first I liked the faster more upbeat songs but as time went on I started to really love the softer ones like Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep (beautifully done by Ben Crawley and Joseph Platt). The soloists are lovely with clear and pure voices, and the chorus just swells with harmonies. This is choir music for people who hate choir music.
Pure Crystal.......2006-02-20
Like Luminosa, this is incredible. I can only compare it to the beautiful, pristine, classical pieces of antiquity, such as Vivaldi's Spring and Bach's many ethereal melodies. It's beautiful.

Not a homerun, but a solid extra-base hit.......2005-12-15
Not sure why this album has become the redheaded stepchild of the solo Henley canon. Surely it deserved to have more than one song on the greatest hits. Why is "Dirty Laundry" all the public at large seems to remember? "Johnny Can't Read" was actually the leadoff single and the title track charted as well. The album also is home to "La Eile/Lilah," perhaps the most unjustly unknown song in the entire Henley universe. No speechifying, just a heartbreaking ode to what can happen to young love when it grows older, set against the metaphorical backdrop of a couple's farmland that's drying up. The music gently sways as the concerns and fears of adulthood crush and sweep away the simple satisfactions of youth. I'm not doing this song justice, but it must be heard. Elsewhere, things get a little spotty, both musically and lyrically. "You Better Hang Up" sounds like songwriting-by-numbers and "Nobody's Business" seems to endorse prostitution, which is an odd stance. I'll concede that this album is nowhere near as solid as "Beast" and "Innocence," but there's still a lot here to like beyond "Dirty Laundry."
Don Henley Starts His Solo Career With A Bang .......2005-08-24
Don Henley's solo career started with a bang on his first album, I CAN'T STAND STILL. Most of the songs are great, especially "Johnny Can't Read", which protests against the increasing number of high-school dropouts, and "Dirty Laundry", which decries the tendency of radio and TV newscasting to feed into selfish, antisocial behavior. This is a great album, especially when you consider that Henley believes that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was wrongfully convicted, a factor which makes this album an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
Ordinary stuff from a great singer.......2004-12-20
Thanks for reading
This is just an OK album in my opinion.
Finding his roots as a solo artist, Don Henley just gets better from here. There are some OK songs here, but all sounding a bit dated these days.
For fans only!
I am SUCH a hypocrite..........2004-01-11
Forget Gene Simmonds, forget Michael Stipe, forget Dave Matthews: if there was EVER an "artist" that deserved a good kick in the 'nads, it'd be Henley. But - and here I go, being a hypocrite - this ain't a bad album. At ALL. Just the mere inclusion of Danny Kortchmer's presence on the album gives it merit, right there. But "credit where credit is due," and all that, "Dirty Laundry" is one of the most magnificent, flawless Rock and Roll songs ever. I've been quoted before as saying that Joe Walsh is America's greatest natural resource, and the solo he does with his "duet/background" pedal, whatever, just proves that point. And Don, no matter what I may think of you, yourself, I sympathize 100% with the sentiments expressed in this song. I mean I'VE "been there, done that," myself. Yeah, "Eat your dirty laundry," INDEED! And - my goodness, I hope none of my old band members are reading this - despite the drooling liberal sentiments expressed in "Them Or Us," it is STILL a GREAT Rock and Roll song. I would never have heard it, except for the fact that, one Sunday morning in 1983, on the way to Church, I was listening to the "hip" radio staion in Atlanta, and they were interviewing the late, great Warren Zevon. Warren mentioned "Them Or Us," probably because he tended to drift "slightly to the left," himself, but he also did background vocals on the song. OK, Don, you win...I actually OWN this CD...
Henley goes it alone.......2003-08-06
Don Henley the singer/drummer with the great 70`s band the Eagles found himself without a band in the early 80`s and when he learned that his old friend Glenn Frey was about to release an album, Don too decided to make one. Don has always collaborated with others in his songwriting endeavours and found two like-minded conspirators in Danny Kortchmar best known for his playing days with James Taylor and Carole King. Waddy Wachtel a regarded session musician was also around. Together Don & Dan created some serious, political, social comment supported with great melodies (Dirty Laundry, Johnny can`t Read) some personal snippets from some difficult times in Don`s life (Nobody`s Business) and what Henley album would be complete without a great love song (Long Way Home) Henley even explores his Irish roots (Lilah) and covers a traditional gospel song with some help from Bill Withers (Uncloudy Day) All in All an album which mystifies especially when compared to Frey`s 1st outing No Fun Aloud, you wonder how Frey and Henley could create the Eagles sound when their solo outings are obviously different. Henley Tex/Mex Country and Gospel music and Frey White R&B and Rock and Roll. This is a really good album which set Don up for a great solo career. Oh and what a voice.

JUST WHAT I WANTED.......2007-01-10

I love this CD!!!!.......2006-04-30
This is a great CD...I have purchased it like 5 times because I never get it back those people who have borrowed it from me. My favorites songs are Stand Still and God's Mercy (When I think of what I've done today)...that was the Oakwood College Jam of the early to mid 90's. This CD would make a fine addition to your gospel collection, but don't be like me and lend it out...burn a copy for those who want it.
Stand Still.......2005-02-12
I have followed Carol Antron's music since she was a small child. From her first songs (Branches of Faith) to her latest anointed song, she is truly a child of God. I remember that she wrote her first song on an airplane. I have tried so very hard to get some of that music but have not been able to. If you know how, please contact me. It would be such a blessing to me, I love what God has given her and how it affected my life years ago.
I LOVE THIS CD!!.......2004-11-25
This album grew on me when my cousin let me hear Stand Still when I was about TEN!!! Our choir at church began to sing this song. I have been hunting down the cd and I finally found it! WC is AWESOME and more importantly ANOINTED!!!! God has truly been using them to get me through my last year of college...especially with Stand Still (Until His Will is Clear). This song brings TEARS to my eyes!
Buy this album before it is out of print!
A blessing.......2004-01-07
What can I say about this album!!! It is a must have for anyone who loves choirs.
Stand Still is undoubtably the best song I have ever heard ministered by a soloist a big shout goes out to LeCresia Campbell!! The lady is anointed!! the choir back the soloist wonderfully too.
The songs are upbeat, but yet still leave an impression.... I have had this album since 1994 and everytime I listen to it, the words and music encourages me.

Product Description
Marc Maron is a mix of an unlikely but outspoken Presidential candidate combined with the homeless dude on your block who is convinced you are Karl Roves robot love child and refuses to accept your handouts. His now-sober view of a world ripe with political blunderings and disappointment has landed him frequent guest spots on The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan OBrien. And now Stand Up! Records brings you his latest evening of comedy, "Tickets Still Available." Maron lends his neurosis to create a self-deprecating festival of laughter and offers his insight into a world of pharmaceuticals, psychic vampires, and shameful masturbation. Truly gifted in elegantly personifying and finding deep meaning in the world, Marc Maron really just wants to allow himself to carelessly eat his way into obesity. And while Marc Maron is sadly not making a bid for the Presidency, "Tickets Still Available" has the power to infiltrate the fabric of the US of A - supporting the fears of raving mad conspiracy theory ridden street dwellers and shining a light on the depression of normal desk-jobbed civilians alike.
Customer Reviews:
Doing the hard work.......2006-02-01
Depression and anxiety? Marc Maron seethes it. He revels in it.
Marc Maron's material is incredibly well put together and delivered adroitly, but his true skill is making his bits come across as the maniacal ravings of a man on the edge. When he seems to be losing his train of thought, it always carefully circles back to strike you in the ass.
He has a certain shamelessness when it comes to making people uncomfortable. There's no apology, you either get the joke or you don't. This certainly seems to be a trend for comedians today, to be "edgy," but Marc Maron has honed it over the years of a career on the edge of mainstream success. Somehow, he's managed to avoid that. He's been just successful enough to maintain some integrity and callous bitterness that is lost once a comedian gets their watered-down television sitcom.
There are a few parts of this album where I was afraid Marc Maron was turning to standard comedic fare, like talking about marriage or turning into his dad. Thankfully, even these bits do an about face, or an about self-efface, and take a miserable turn to hilarity through tragedy.
The best thing about Marc Maron is in his willingness to explore unfunny bits. By no means am I implying things get serious; in fact, they get hilarious. Misery loves company, though, especially when the company can point out some of the tragic absurdity that you might have missed.

Customer Reviews:
desert island disc.......2002-08-29
Hans Hotter is a wonder. The voice has a remarkable agility and breadth of expression, that has justly earned him the admiration of several generations. He is an expert at chiaroscuro, sometimes lightening the tone, as in Ständchen, while in Loewe's "Edward", he adopts a minatory timbr that is chilling. It is well known that Hotter was THE Wotan of the post-war years, but he is not inferior to any lieder singer. These songs are mini-dramas in his expert hands. Testament is quite generous with these re-issues of classic singers, packing 27 songs onto this disc. It is a recording worth having.
A great Hotter anthology.......2002-06-19
This compilation comes from 1966 and 1968, when the experienced Hotter had a high level of refinement. Very few people have been so succesful in fusing elements of both singer and actor into one entity as Hotter could. This CD is more proof of that. To a newcomer, his voice will sound quite dark and rich, but has vibrance. His characterizations are intense, but not exaggerated. And amazingly, both these elements are completely integrated. The works represented here need no introduction - if any of them cannot convince with Hotter singing, there is little alternative. To compare Hotter with Fischer-Dieskau is neither simple nor right, it is really up to one's taste. Yet the CD is also good for someone new to lieder. The recording quality is exceptional, even for the mono selections (about half the disc).

One of the Best CDs in my Collection.......2007-01-22
As an Australian user, I came across The Wrechers through a friend. I preordered this album (limited edition CD/DVD) through Amazon, and it was worth every cent. A great collection of easy to listen tracks.
Nothing special but could have been.......2006-12-18
Having heard these young ladies on the radio and finding their harmonies reminiscent of The Kinleys, Dixie Chicks and SheDaisy, I bought the CD with nothing else to recommend it. It's a disappointment on a couple of levels.
They have nice voices. Not great voices but nice, pleasant voices and they harmonize well. Not having a great voice can still work okay if there is something to say. On this recording, the material is weak. Very, very weak. Not one song is really interesting or stands out in the vast quagmire of today's country-pop radio playlist. Every song is immaculately produced to sound like everything else deemed worthy of radio airplay.
This recording never rises above the level of mediocrity. On that level, it would rank three stars. However, there is obviously some talent here that needs someone or something to kickstart it. That is what is really disappointing and, because it could have been a better recording, I can only give it two-stars.
The Wreckers/ Stand still-look pretty.......2006-08-30
Well, The Wreckers definitely have potential. This is labeled as a country album and getting plenty of air time on the metropolitan country stations "Leave the pieces" is really good.
"Way back home" is pretty good. However "the good kind" is a pretty good pop song and from there the album seems to all run together. Seemless with sameness. Pure pop.
I guess the blame if any should go to the record producers. They can't call it pure pop and it's not quite country so they say "hey! let's slap a country label on it and see where it goes". This is their 1st attempt at a country cd so I give them credit and the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what they do next.
Bottom line; If you're a true country fan you'll like a couple maybe 3 songs. On the other hand if you are in the process of crossing over to country or like a mix of lots of pop and a little country, it's worth aquiring for your collection.
Michelle goes country.......2006-08-14
I have been a fan of Michelle Branch's music for some time and I eagerly awaited the release of her next album. This collaboration with Jessica Harp is a serious break from the genre of music that Michelle wrote for her previous releases. She has taken on a very country sound but as ever she does it well. I would recommend this album for anyone who is looking for something to chill out and relax to and I cannot wait to see what her next album will bring.
fantastic stuff.......2006-07-17
Michelle Branch faced a lot of trouble with her record company when she wanted to go country, but it was all worth it. This new project with friend jessica harp is an amazing collection of songs that can be appreciated by pop, rock and country fans. i wish this incredible duo all the best. Michelle Branch has changed my life

EMI's "society" subscription editions in the 1930s yielded a wealth of recordings long considered gramophone classics, such as the present collection of roughly half of Hugo Wolf's lieder output. Each song occupies its own specific world, due to Wolf's resourceful word setting and his avoidance of anything generic. In turn, the performers illuminate each song's felicities with effortless authority, and they avoid overpointing or enacting. Full texts and translations are included. Ernest Newman's penetrating annotations for the original 78 albums, reprinted in EMI's 1981 LP reissue, are absent. --Jed Distler

The Hugo Wolf Society Recordings.......2005-12-28
The songs of Hugo Wolf (1860 -- 1903)combine great attention to textual detail with closely intertwined writing for the voice and the piano. In this small form, Wolf was a master and took song in a different direction from that of Schubert, Schumann and Brahms. He wrote most of his songs in bursts of activity in five large collections, devoted to the poetry of Morike, Eichendorff, Goethe, and to collections of Spanish and Italian texts. He also composed a number of songs in shorter sets.
In the early 1930s, a young Walter Legge began a project of recording Wolf songs on a subscribtion basis to be limited to 500 sets. The recording industry was relatively new, and Wolf, then as now, too little appreciated. The result was an extensive series of recordings of issued between 1931 and 1938 consisting of 145 songs, about one-half Wolf's output, performed by fourteen singers. The Hugo Wolf Society recordings remain a high moment in the recording of song. They were remastered on LPs and, in 1998, in this 5 CD collection which includes previously unreleased selections.
The Wolf Society collection offers an unparalleled opportunity to get to know Wolf's songs performed by artists of the past that might otherwise be unfamiliar to many listeners. The performers include mezzo-soprano Elena Gerhardt, who recorded the initial volume for the society, baritones Herbert Janssen, Gerhard Husch, tenors John McCormack, Karl Erb, and Helge Roswaenge, the basses Alexander Kipnis, Frederich Schorr, and Ludwig Weber, and sopranos Alexandra Trianti, Elizabeth Rethberg, Ria Ginster, Marta Fuchs, and Tiana Lemnitz. The pianists include Conrad Bos, Gerald Moore, Michael Raucheisen, Hans Udo Muller, and Ernest Victor Wolff.
The singers perform in a variety of styles from the highly operatic to the quietly lyrical. There is a Wagnerian performance of Goethe's "Prometheus" by Friedrich Schorr with the London Symphony Orchestra -- the only track using an orchestral accompaniment. The Irish tenor John McCormack shows a more lyrical approach in his renowned performance of Goethe's poem "Ganymed". The sopranos, Alexandra Trianti, Ria Ginster, and Tiana Lemitz have light, clear, bell-like voices. I find the singers on this compilation take a much more individualized, idiosyncratic, and romantic approach to song than do their modern counterparts, who sometimes seem restrained and chaste by comparison.
Each of Wolf's great collections of songs is well-represented. Elena Gerhardt performs songs from each of Wolf's five books, with the exception of the Goethe songs. The young Alexander Kipnis gives a powerful reading of Wolf's three songs from Michaelangelo. The third CD in this collection features many songs from the Italian songbook performed by soprano Ginster, baritone Husch, and bass Kipnis together with recordings from the Spanish songbook by sopranos Rethberg and Ginster and baritone Husch. There are lovely performances by soprano Tiana Lemnitz in the previously uncollected supplementary material, which also includes several Eichendorff songs and a performance of the Goethe-song "Phanomen" by Alexander Kipnis.
There is a great amount of material in this collection, with each of the 5 CDs including in excess of 70 minutes of music. Most of Wolf's songs are highly concentrated and intense. They may prove difficult to the listener coming to them knowing only the lyricism of Schubert. I would not recommend trying to rush through this set at one or two hearings. It is best to take this music in small sections and to listen with text in hand. The compilation includes texts and translations for each of the songs together with good notes about the Wolf Society recording project. There is little discussion about Wolf or about the songs themselves.
This is an essential collection for those who love song, historical recordings, and the music of Hugo Wolf.

"Even little things can delight us.".......2003-06-02
If these six words give an approximate translation of the song "Auch kleine Dinge", then they might also describe a music lover's reaction as he makes a journey of exploration through the hundreds of little songs composed by Hugo Wolf.
Walter Legge, a very young EMI record producer in the 1930s, first made such a journey possible when he pioneered the Hugo Wolf Society and began releasing the volumes now reissued in this boxed set. Many singers were invited to participate. Legge's choice of singers was sometimes idiosyncratic. You might wonder how an Irish tenor, a Ukrainian bass and a Greek soprano were admitted to the roster. The results, however, especially in the case of the contributions of John McCormack and Alexander Kipnis, prove the sureness of his instincts.
About half Wolf's songs were made available in the original issue, between 1931 and 1938. With this reissue comes unused and hitherto unissued recordings, many by Tiana Lemnitz and Herbert Jannsen. So there is now more to discover and exploration is made easier for us in 2003 than it was in the 1930s. The remastering has improved the sound, Legge's widow Dame Elisabeth Schwarzkopf is able to provide a perceptive introduction in an accompanying booklet, and the texts of the songs are now provided in German and English.

Wolf sung by various Lieder singers.......2000-08-15
This is an extraordinary collection of Wolf songs. It is frustrating that the project was not completed, as the quality of what was recorded is so extraordinarily revelatory. My personal favourites are the Michelangelo settings sung by the bass Alexander Kipnis, although he uncharacteristically makes some textual errors. The contributions of Hüsch are numerous and thoughtfully sung, and Karl Erb, Herbert Janssen, Ludwig Weber, Rita Ginster and Marta Fuchs are all caught on extraordinary form, with accompanists of admittedly variable quality, ranging from the sublime Gerald Moore to some very interesting contributions from some accompanists who did not really capture the true essence of Lieder accompanying, which surely cannot permit the piano to be subservient to the voice!
These precious recordings offer us so much. They are a document of a golden age of Lieder singing, and they are superb recitals, sung by a variety of voices, never allowing the listener to tire of listening to a single voice for too long. They are also, of course, examples of some of the most wonderful Lieder writing of any time. These 5 cds are a must for a Lieder specialist, and can open new doors to the novice. Buy them, and never regret having this treasure trove which will give you pleasure all your life.
