Album Description
When you are the world's greatest jazz, R&B, soul/gospel acapella vocal group, people have a difficult time describing your music. it always seems inadequate. Beginning in 1989 with their self titled debut, Take 6 has been hard to categorize. Selling a million records, nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards and winning two Grammy's, Best Jazz vocal performance, Best Soul Gospel Performance, Take 6 has not slowed down a single quarter note. Forming their own record compnay and partnering with 33rd Street, Take 6 is bringing their groove-laden acapella vocals to every corner of the country. "Feels Good" is the ultimate showcase for these award winning Take 6 acapeilla vocals. Yes, this is jazz, yes, this is R&B and yes, this is soul/gospel. Still hard to categorize, "Feels Good" is the finest Take 6 music heard in years.
Customer Reviews:
These guys are the real deal!.......2007-05-24
I love Take 6. I almost wore out their CD "So Much 2 Say" I loved it so much. Then I bought their "Beautiful World" CD and was disappointed they were going instrumental on me! Not to fear, Take 6 came back to their A Capella roots with a vengeance! This CD is just incredible! I have sang in A Capella groups for years, but never produced anything remotely close to the amazing blend that is Take 6. Incredible vocals, outstanding lyrics and brilliant arranging! Buy it!
Excellent CD.......2007-03-08
What can I say about Take 6...This CD is just another reminder of how great and untouchable Take 6 is. I met them in person, they're great guys with phenominal musical talent, funny and down to earth. The baddest contemporary/Gospel/Jazz/R&B/Acapella vocal group ever.
MUST HAVE GOSPEL ALBUM! 5 STARS!!.......2006-12-28
If you buy just ONE gospel CD this year, buy this one. Great a cappella from a masterful group that's been doing it for a very long time. Track 6 is amazing! This is a music lover's CD.
Classic Take 6.......2006-12-19
For me, a hard-core Take 6 fan, this is their best work since their original album. It might be their best work, period. I have it on my ipod and cannot stop playing it. They've enhanced their unique acapella stylings with updated arrangements (see "More Than Ever"). The range and intensity of this album makes it a classic. There is no better vocal group in the world. I defy anyone to listen to the title cut and not be uplifted.
This album just "Feels Good"!!!.......2006-07-20
Man, when i listen to this album, all that I hear is the fun that they must've had while recording it. It sounds like they kicked it in the studio, And, this album just feels good, too. Plus, they just sound phenominal together. This album, in my opinion, is their best album. I would be listening to it right now, but I let my dad borrow it and I ain't seen it since. Shoot, I can't even blame him. I mean, I like genres like hiphop, r&b, neosoul, smooth jazz, etc., but I have got to say that this album is topping all the other albums I have in my collection. Man, I love this album!!!

Customer Reviews:
Amazing and Soulful.......2007-07-03
I first heard this recording at a session at the 2007 conference of the Association for African American Historical Research and Preservation and I have been listening to it ever since. This CD really is a celebration of music.
I have put in this CD without telling people what it was and have enjoyed the totally positive response.
Was disappointed.......2007-05-22
I bought this CD because of the great reviews and didn't like it at all. Too loud and abrasive for my ears... I gave it away to someone who might better like it.
I expected it to be mellifluous and soulful but found it rather annoying... especially at the holidays.
excellent, excellent cd.......2007-04-26
there is nothing more i could say about this cd that the other reviewers haven't already mentioned - it is a must have for anyone, even if you are not a fan of christian music. i had never even heard of this project - i bought it soon after it came out, simply because i liked the cover art and thought it would be a good cd to have around christmas. it's better than that - i listen to it year round. every song, no matter what style, is delivered with all heart and soul possible. excellent lift-you-up music, and great to listen to in the mornings to get you pumped up for the day. "and he shall purify" is simply electrifying. i am also a big fan of the final song, "halleluja!" and "but who may abide the day of his coming" will just set you free! year round, this is an outstanding example of gospel, jazz, hip-hop and absolute zeal for any music lover.
Awesome Recording.......2007-04-11
Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration is a masterful interpretation of an age old classic. The arrangements are sheer brilliance. My hats off to Mervyn Warren and all those involved in this project.
OUTSTANDING!.......2007-03-16
This album won a Grammy many years ago. I saw a Gospel Choir perform the Halleluah Chorus live at the award show. Since then I have not only enjoyed the recording tremendously myself I have given it to several people at Christmas time and they have been equally enthralled. I loaned it to my son's High School Choir teacher and finaaly made it a gift when he refused to give it back!

When Alvin Chea, David Thomas, Claude McKnight, Cedric Dent, and Joey and Mark Kibble burst onto the scene from a small Alabama college in the early '90s as the vocal group Take 6, their gospel-inspired vocals and all-embracing musical outlook blew listeners and categories away with their hip and heavenly messages of hope. With two unreleased tracks--"One and the Same," featuring the soul stirrings of CeCe Winans, and the samba-fied "The Best Stuff in the World Today Cafe"--this collection shows off the ensemble's ability to drop God's word into earthly beats. Take 6 can go from the celestial harmonies of "Mary," "A Quiet Place," and Handel's "Oh Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion" (with a rejuvenated Stevie Wonder) to the South African sonorities of "Fly Away," the East Indian impressions of "Destiny," and the bop-jazz-fusion-flavored "So Much 2 Say," "U Turn," and "Setembro (Brazilian Wedding Song)." Pop-wise, "I L-O-V-E U," "Spread Love," and the Ambrosia hit "Biggest Part of Me" show off their beat-box, R&B, and adult-contemporary chops. Through Take 6, God moves--and sings--in mysterious and marvelous ways. --Eugene Holley Jr.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent CD.......2007-03-08
Great compilation of Take 6's master mind of musical ability. The Baddest Jazz Kats ever.
The Best Stuff .......2005-06-23
Since seeing these guys perform live at the then 'North Sea - Jazz Festival' in Cape Town 2002 I became an instant fan. This album is reminiscent of that great day. The whole album is an enjoyable experience and 'hats-off' to the group for its talent, unity and deliverance. The tracks that stand out for me are 'Destiny','Mary' , 'Spread Love', 'So Much to Say','U-Turn'and 'Biggest Part of Me'- Tebza (Cape Town - South Africa)
A Must Have.......2003-08-30
I have been a fan of Take 6 since their debut album. Although they have added instruments to some of their songs, they are still one of the best acapella groups today. I love singing along with "Fly Away" and "Best Stuff In the World Today Cafe." I wish music critics would give them more credit for their wonderful talent and focus on that instead of the fact that this is "gospel" music. What is gospel but "music for the soul?"
A unique and refreshing sound collected.......2002-11-16
It is unfortunate when so many artists of questionable talent are pushed into the consumer's consciousness, while those with true talent and spirit are relegated to the corner. But then again, maybe it's for the best that Take 6 has flown on the edge of the radar - this way we have their pure and soaring talent to enjoy ourselves. Blending Gospel and Jazz with a dose of Bobbie McFerrin, the group has put out consistently good albums. And here is some of the cream of them. Their range is shown from the pop "Biggest Part of Me" to the soulful sounds of "I L-O-V-E U" and the soaring gospel heights of "Mary" and "Destiny." Their music reaches out to wrap itself around you, caressing you with harmonies. It's a shame more people do not know them, but hopefully such a wonderful sampler of their work may introduce them to a new fan or two.
Greatest hits from a fabulously talented group.......2002-09-09
All the great Take 6 songs are here on "Greatest Hits," but the biggest treat of all has to be the previously unreleased "The Best Stuff in the World Today Café." Beginning with a lazy vocal groove, it soon turns into a finger-popping exercise underscored with Take 6's signature vocal virtuosity. The lyrics are a clever harkening back to Biblical references to God's word being food for the spirit:
Then the waiter said to me,
"Everything we serve is free!"
When he saw that I was full of doubt,
He shoved the best stuff in my mouth
Well, the food was so fantastic, man
I could not stay in my seat!
I jumped up from the table,
grabbed a stranger off the street,
And said, "Welcome to the Best Stuff in the World Today Café!"
"I L-O-V-E U" is here, as is "Mary", "Spread Love," and other Take 6 classics. One of the more unusual tunes is a collaboration in which the group backs up Stevie Wonder on a jazzed-up version of Georg Friedrich Handel's "O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion" from Handel's magnificent "Messiah." It works strikingly well and sounds as contemporary as anything else on this terrific album.

THEY HAVE IT ALL !.......2007-06-10
TAKE 6 has everything : anointing, Holy Spirit inspired music and lyrics, and wonderful for worshiping the Lord in dance. Just wish they could do more.
Excellent A-Capella work!.......2007-05-13
I've admired these guys since I first saw them in concert in the early 90's. If you've never heard them or don't know if you'd like a-capella songs, try this one. It's worth every penny.
The original goodie!.......2007-01-16
This is the foundation of greatness! Take 6 won its place in my heart with this CD. If you want to know what they're about..get this CD first then Feels Good, So Cool, So Much To Say, He Is Christmas, Beautiful World...it goes on and on. So many to choose from and you can't really go wrong with them.
Awesome.......2006-08-21
This CD is the first of Take 6 I heard and have been a fan ever since. Their vocals are awesome! You will not be disapponted!
The Best.......2006-06-22
So here's how I first got aquainted with Take Six. I turned the radio on as I always did, years ago, to fall asleep. The disc jockey said, "you've got to hear this group. They're amazing", or something to that effect. As the album started to play I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I sat straight up in bed and my ears clung to every note. The next day I went racing around town to find the album but to no avail. It was sold out everywhere. I finally got hold of it and played it to death. I taped it for my dad (a musician) and he took a copy to his brother (also a musician). They went racing to the record store (I wasn't giving them my album) down on Park row in Manhattan. The poor clerk said that people had been asking for it all day long and the shelves were empty. Then he said, "you guys are musicians aren't you?" and they said yes. He let out a big heavy sigh, went into the storage area and came back with albums. After that my dad and his brother called all of there musician friends and had a listening party for that album. They claimed they didn't want any women around chatting and laughing while they were trying to listen. I couldn't even get in and I was the one who brought it to their attention! Oh well.
This album is the best of all the Take Six offerings. It's so hard to find good acapella music and even harder to find it in a gospel form. This album is a classic now. I wouldn't give it away for all the tea in London. All the tunes are original compositions written by the group members themselves. Their harmonies are rich and lush but the lyrics come through clearly which is important especially when singing gospel music. I think I would call this work innovative. If you like acapella music you'll love this disc. I'm very sad to say that the group seems to have lost their focus as the later albums became less and less quality.
Don't lose hope though. There is another group called Chanticleer who also sing mostly acapella music. They are however, somewhat higher on the evolutionary scale, so to speak. Their body of work is much broader and more sophisticated. Give them a listen.

Excellent CD.......2007-03-08
This CD is another one of Take 6's display of "FLAWLESS" Acapella, rich and unique sound, phenominal Contemporary Gospel/Jazz/R&B music in it's purest form.
Best album ever.......2006-11-22
1.On "I'm on my way", that song always means: Like, going on a journey or a quest. If there was a new wizard of oz, please put that song on there.
2.On the 12th track, who was speaking(after the news guy)? Is it a jamaican boy or girl?
BTW.................I like track(s)2,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,and 13.
Sophomore slump.......2005-02-23
Their debut was a breath of fresh air and it would be hard to match. On this album, they pushed hard but in the end the material is a little lower quality than on the self-titled CD. (The Gospel Music Association held a different view, giving this disc the Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year for 1991).
If not as artistic, though, it would be the commercial breakthrough for the band, landing 2 hits on Christian radio (#3 "I L-O-V-E You", which also won a Dove award for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song, and #23 "Something Within Me")
One of the first unwelcome appearances is that staple of hip-hop: the "intermission" track. 4 throwaway vignettes/intros appear here (tracks 1,3,8,and 12). That leaves 9 actual songs.
HIGHLIGHTS:
The better material stands alongside their first effort. "I L-O-V-E U" is a catchy plea from God's point of view and made some noise on R&B radio as well as gospel. "Something Within Me" is decent, although a faux Jamaican bridge is a bad move that brings down the song. BeBe Winans gave the band's Mark Kibble a hand writing "I Believe" and it's a standout as well. Gospel stalwart "I'm on my Way (to Canaanland)" gets a nifty arrangement. "So Much 2 Say" flits by as a supersonic jazz vocal workout (you'll need the lyric sheet to decipher much of it).
LOWS:
On the downside, an overly cartoonish rendition of Carman's "Sunday's on the Way" doesn't compare to the original. "Where Do the Children Play?" warns parents to keep an eye out for those who would exploit their kids but it just doesn't stick in your head.
BOTTOM LINE:
It's not a washout, but if you're wanting to try out the band for the first time, get their debut first and wait on this one until you're already a fan.
Sophistocated jazz harmonies, with Gospel roots.......2004-12-11
An acapella group, comprised of six men who blend thier voices to make some of the most sophistocated vocal music since the Boswell Sisters in the 30's. To top it all off, they are singing thier hearts out to out creator! Grreat music that certianly is sophistocated jazz, with deep roots in gospel. If you thought the Christian music scene was all rock'n'roll and alternitive, guess again.
One of the Best of its Kind.......2004-03-24
I write this with the benefit of 14 years of perspective. When this first came out, and I heard it, I was blown away--especially by "I L-O-V-E U". How could 6 musicians make this kind of sound, especially without so much as a tambourine? And how could 6 singers sound this good individually, yet have such a tremendous blend? What kind of surface have they scratched?
In retrospect, I think this was as good as it got. The group forayed from gospel to pop with "Join the Band," and at that point, I lost interest. But what a ride this was! "Something Within Me" and "I'm on My Way" still stick with me as examples of how an a capella group can display pure joy through each individual, yet sound like a group. I still think this was and is the best a capella group ever, regardless of genre, based on this and the first album. Very highly recommended.

Sweet Honey in the Rock send their joyful noise throughout the audience on this soundtrack to the Raise Your Voice documentary, part of PBS's American Masters series. As the all-female a cappella group traces American gospel to its African roots, they all but dare listeners to resist becoming part of the music. On the environmentally conscious, central African "Chant," the singalong encircles the hall, providing a stirring response to Sweet Honey's call. A strong social conscience informs material such as "Joan Little," an expression of solidarity with an abused prisoner, and "The Ballad of Harry T. Moore," a tribute to a slain civil rights organizer. Instrumental backing propels the funky "Ballad of the Broken Word," written by Toshi Reagon, daughter of Sweet Honey founder Bernice Johnson Reagon. Yet as the soaring spirituality of "In the Upper Room with Jesus" attests, vocal power is all this group requires to overwhelm a responsive crowd. --Don McLeese

Absolutely Amazing!.......2005-08-20
I bought this CD on a whim after watching a PBS special on Sweet Honey in the Rock, and absolutely love it. The group has an amazing, cohesive, in-tune sound. Buy this CD for "Ship of Zion", "Harry Moore", and "Women Gather". A must have!

Die-hard fans of this Grammy-winning team will celebrate when they hear the sixth album from Take 6. After a blatant attempt at out-and-out commercialism via their marginally successful 1996 album Brothers, the sextet is back on solid ground, returning to the basic a cappella sound that brought them to international prominence. While no album can ever quite compare to their groundbreaking debut, So Cool is closer to the content and feel of that record than practically any album since. Mostly produced and written by various members of the group, So Cool is best heard as an entire piece of work. The group concentrates on inspirational lyrics, reinforcing the members' faith and ensuring that the core Christian music audience they nurtured back in 1988 will continue to embrace their work. There are no standout tracks per se, although the title track, "Fly Away," and "Nothin' but Love" are memorable, as is "Everybody Ought to Know," an Earth, Wind & Fire-flavored cut that is the only track to use a full band. By way of a brief interlude titled "A'-ca-lud," the group acknowledges a return to its a cappella roots, saying, "We're doing what we do best"--a welcome statement by this vocally superior team. Musically consistent, So Cool is a reminder that before Boyz II Men and the host of young male groups that followed, Take 6 set the stage for a return to vocal harmonies. Ten years on, they're as strong as ever. --David Nathan

Excellent CD.......2007-03-08
This CD is another one of Take 6's display of "FLAWLESS" Acapella, rich and unique sound, phenominal Contemporary Gospel/Jazz/R&B music in it's purest form.
So cool is SO COOL.......2003-07-19
I've been a fan of Take 6 since their debut album, and this is definitely one of the best. Every single track is great, although some are outstanding. "Sonshine", and "Miles to Go" are my favorites. The only problem with this album is that it's not long enough! Everytime it ends, I'm amazed that the time went by so quickly. This is truly the world's best vocal group.
Masterpiece All Its Own........2001-06-22
When Take 6 said they were returning to their roots, I immediately made a mental reference to the first album "Take 6". I was slightly taken aback when that is not what I recieved. But, that is not neccessarly a bad thing. I have learned to listen to music with a whole new set of ears - taking the music as it is. For a group to remain stagnant in the waters of simplicity would mean the end of that group. But, Take 6 has demonstrated a wonderful knack of venturing into new territories and adapting beautifully. They have shown their adaptibility on this release. The balance is not quite as good as on the release "Join The Band", but this is a masterpiece all its own. My favorite song on the album is "Evermore". It reminds me of a tune that might be written by Michael Franks, the master of expressiveness. My next favorite song is "Nothing But Love". I love the groove of this song. It reminds me of the "old" Take 6. The vamp is to die for. I hope you too can learn, as I have, how to take music at face value, not comparing it with any other. You will find that this is a Masterpiece All Its Own.
6 Thumbs Up!.......2001-03-04
As always, Take 6 demonstrates why several other male vocal groups cite Take 6 as their inspiration. From the jazzy title track, "So Cool", to the funky "Nothin' But Love" and the soothing "Love and Harmony", Take 6 once again leaves you wondering if there is an end to their musical ability.
The Best.......2000-10-18
I initially got a copy of this CD from our public library. Once I heard it a few times, I felt I needed a copy of my own. Perhaps it is because these guys grew up in th same denomination as myself, perhaps it's their style, but these guys are simply to say in a word, AWESOME!! The person who didn't initially like this CD, don't give up on it yet. I am now beginning to love "Evermore" and "Nothing but Love", "Everybody Ought to Know","So Cool",and my favorite"If you only Knew" will take hold and touch you. I enjoyed each CD except their second one, yet, I don't let that bother me. I am a fan, and I would love to hear them live. When their 1st CD came out, I was in Korea, and I will never forget going to a gathering, and the folks there just loved it. I knew then that they were here to stay

In their first 25 years, 22 different women sang in Sweet Honey in the Rock. That floating membership bespeaks not artistic turmoil, but the vitality of the band's communal, participatory democracy. No one singer dominates; the individual nuances of the five voices are preserved within the whole. The shape and sound of Sweet Honey's music--a daring survey of gospel, jazz, and African chanting--is itself political, but the group is still anchored by founder Bernice Johnson Reagon's vibrato-rich baritone, whether in her bold leads or doo-wop harmonies. To celebrate their silver anniversary, the group presents 13 new songs, mostly sung a cappella save some African drumming and tambourine, and focusing on original compositions with messages as intense as anything they've recorded. The most successful pieces, however, transcend the hectoring tone of songs such as "Greed" and "Run." And the biggest surprise comes in their doo-wop arrangement of Thomas A. Dorsey's "Standing By the Bedside of a Neighbor," in which the spiritual and the political merge seamlessly. --Roy Kasten

An excellent collection.......2002-10-04
This CD brings almost all of the ladies that have ever been a part of "Sweet Honey..." together. It is great to sit back and just listen to the music flow together. This CD and their "Sacred Ground" CD hasn't left the player since I got them!
Music for the soul.......2000-03-08
I have had the honor of hearing SHIR, live for the past 3 years, since I have been a student here at FAMU. And I have been moved completely out of my seat each time. I actually felt the music in my heart, like my heart was the drum, my blood was the harmonious rhythm that flowed, and eyes that view their grace as they sang, was the entrance that allowed my insides to rumble the moment they open their mouths. I would like to encourage SHIR, to continue to provide the world with what I consider REAL music.
inspiring.......1999-12-07
sweet honey in the rock does it again with an uplifting , thought-provoking, inspiring, beautiful collection of music. i found the use of percussion on "we are the ones" and "run" to complement the beautiful vocals very nicely. these two and others such as "sound bite from beijing" and "greed" are refreshingly thought-provoking in a positive way compared to much "popular" music i have listened to. their version of bob marley's "redemption song" is also very impressive
A Weakened Sweet Honey, with too much Gloss.......1999-07-07
As a big fan of Sweet Honey and owner of virtually all their CDs, I was disappointed with "twenty-five." While still delivering beautiful harmonies, Sweet Honey have written songs that are a bit more pop-ish than earlier works and the strongest songs seem to be the ones with more concentration on the solo singer rather than the innovation that comes with the group making melodies a cappella. If you're looking for a great Sweet Honey CD, go to some of their stronger works, such as: Selections 1976-1988, Sacred Ground, and In This Land.
Truly Great!!!.......1999-06-06
If you like Sweet Honey In The Rock and even if you haven't heard them, you will love this album.

Amazon.com essential recording
The magic of Sweet Honey in the Rock lies in the pulse and spirit of the group's performances. No recording can totally re-create the net of energy this powerful collective of women's voices casts over its audience, but Live at Carnegie Hall comes darn close. Here the group's members are free to develop songs as long as the spirit moves them--much longer, typically, than on their studio albums. Listen to the driven growls in the traditional folk chant "Run, Run, Mourner Run," the solemn contemplation of "Wade in the Water," and the circular wails and stirring percussion of "Denko" to feel Sweet Honey's spirit pounding through your bones. Live at Carnegie Hall also features several instructive yet tender introductions from founder Bernice Johnson Reagon, an amazingly theatrical presentation of Sonia Sanchez's poem "Letter to Dr. Martin Luther King," and a jazzy a cappella version of Paul Elouard's sensual poem "Peace." --Sally Weinbach

Recorded in Manhattan on November 7, 1987, this double live album includes 70 minutes of music and spoken introductions. There's a representative balance of hymns, blues, protest songs, and Third World influences. The group's ability to stretch out songs is illustrated by a seven-minute version of "Wade in the Water" and an eight-minute version of "Letter to Dr. Martin Luther King" (one of three songs on the album composed for the PBS special The Dream and the Drum). --Geoffrey Himes

Every minute a pleasure.......2000-06-22
I was browsing Amazon to see if I could get my hands on this amazing CD. (I'm glad to know I can.) From beginning to end, each song is riveting and entertaining. "Beatitudes" is one of the most beautiful songs you'll ever hear. "Dear Martin" is a wonderful performance of a poem. If you enjoy a variety of music, incredible harmonies, and worldly, timely subjects, you'll love this CD.

Vocal sextet Take 6 bring their tight jazz harmonies and Christian message to their first live recording, from Tokyo's Blue Note in October 1999. The distinctive a cappella style they established early in their career is preserved in the swingers "If We Ever Needed the Lord Before" and "Mary" from their groundbreaking first album and the luscious "I'm on My Way" and the lickety-split "So Much 2 Say" from their 1990 follow-up.
To spotlight individual members of the band, the Miles Davis classic "All Blues" finds Cedric Dent on piano accompanying the five voices imitating instruments, including Joey Kibble's dead-on rendition of Miles's Harmon mute. Fans of the band's more commercial sound, which debuted when they added instrumental support with 1994's Join the Band, will enjoy hearing Dent stay at the piano for Charlie Chaplin's classic "Smile" (though with a lot of jazzy filigree) and "Over the Hill Is Home," a brand-new song by Dent and Alvin Chea that offers a reassuring message of hope though less of a musical challenge. Not everyone enjoys both faces of the band, but the song list has enough variety to please almost any fan. In addition, the 12-minute final track, "I've Got Life/Spread Love," allows the group room to stretch out and get in some interplay with the audience. --David Horiuchi

This CD is another one of Take 6's display of "FLAWLESS" Acapella, rich and unique sound, phenominal Contemporary Gospel/Jazz/R&B music in it's purest form, recorded live in Tokyo.
Inspiring on many levels.......2001-01-11
The members of Take 6 manifest an encyclopedic understanding of gospel, jazz, R&B, and popular idioms that seems to expand with each album. Couple this to an extraordinary vocal virtuosity, demonstrated stunningly on the "Live" album, and the result is something unique in American music.
This is a music and a message of joy and uplift, presented with the greatest understanding and sophistication.
Only for diehard fans.......2000-08-25
I love Take 6. Their ministry is an incredible blessing, and listening to their music has brought me a lot of joy and comfort.
Having said that, I really think that although the performance on Live CD is amazing, the CD is hugely disappointing from a technical standpoint. The miking is terrible -- popping P's and nasty sibilants and gobs of prox effect on the bass. Just listen to "I'm On My Way" -- the bass is in your face and the lead line sounds like it's being sung from the back of the hall. (Yes it's live, but miking for a cd should be different than miking for sound reinforcement.)
I get the feeling that this CD was rushed to market. If Reprise/WEA really cared about the quality of their product, they should have given the project a little more thought. If this is your first exposure to Take 6, buy another of their CDs first, like So Cool or one of the two Christmas CDs.
Just heard it and WOW!.......2000-06-12
What else can you say about this group of six men? I have yet to see these guys live and FINALLY a live album! These guys have taken songs that I have listened countless times and continually switch the structures around - it's like hearing it for the first time all over again. Best tracks have got to be "Mary" and "Spread Love"; Alvin Chea is amazing; Cedric on piano - OH MY!; Mark Kibble and Claude McKnight are still cracking glass with those high notes (how do they do that?) - This is a MUST BUY for anyone who loves the art of vocal/a cappella jazz music! (Next time they're in concert - count me THERE!)
Over The Hill Is Home.......2000-05-11
Truely a blessing to be ministered by these guys once again. Together with some new material and great vocal arrangements, the message is clear throughout....'Over The Hill Is Home'. Also it is good to hear the Doc' at the ivories...Mr Dent himself. Keep them coming guys.
